Credit goes to JamielovesNickJonas for giving me the idea of making it the first day of the school year.
Credit goes to supernatural672019 for giving me the idea of Nick being protection of Elisa during this and the ideas of the punishment.

IT WAS ONLY THE LAST WEEK OF THEIR SUMMER VACATION SINCE THEY MET AND THE FOUR OF THEM BECAME INSEPARABLE. Even though they attended the same elementary school, Kevin and Emma were in fourth grade, Joe and Luke were in third grade, and Nick and Elisa were in second grade. Normally, kids would be upset that they weren't in the same class or grade as their friends, they knew that they were gonna see each other during lunch and recess, plus they could always hang out after school too.

It was the first day of the school year for them and Elisa was a tiny bit nervous, but this time, she had friends to help her get through it. Elisa nervously held her mother's hand, slightly hiding behind Rosalina's legs as she looked around the area, trying to find her best friends.

Rosalina glanced down at her daughter and smiled softly, "Sweetie, you'll be fine. Go on," she said gently.

Elisa shyly shook her head, "I'm waiting for Nicky to come. Me and him are in the same class, right?" She asked.

Rosalina nodded and gestured to where her friends were. Elisa looked over and immediately, her face brightened with a smile forming on her face. Rosalina chuckled and kissed her daughter's forehead, "Go ahead, sweetie. Daddy's gonna pick you, Luke, and Emma up later, alright?" Rosalina said.

"Okay, mommy," Elisa said, giving her mother a hug before she went over to join Nick by their class.

When the two friends spotted each other, they both gave each other a hug, happy to be in the same class. The rest of the first day wasn't bad and Elisa quickly got over her nerves. Of course, no one wanted to be there since it was school, a child's least favorite place to be in.

For Elisa and Nick, the day seemed to be going fine till it was time for recess. Their second grade class was the first to head out for recess and while they were out, Elisa and Nick were leaning against the fence as they waited for the third and fourth grade class that their siblings were in to come out and join them. The two of them were too busy laughing and talking to noticed that the classes were starting to come out.

"Hey, is Kevin either one of your brothers?"

Nick and Elisa looked over to see a few fourth graders โ€” most likely they was in the same class as Kevin and Emma looking at them, one of his friends โ€” likely the leader of the group was holding a piece of paper in his hand.

Elisa and Nick shared a confused look and shrugged before they looked back at them and Nick nodded, "He's my brother,"

The fourth grader nodded and handed him the paper, "Could you give him this note? Tell him that it's from his friend, Derek," he said.

"Uh, sure," Nick said, taking the note from him.

"Thanks. Oh, and tell him that we say that he needs to stop wearing these hideous clothes," Derek said, high-fiving his friends while Nick and Elisa just stared at him.

"Excuse me?" Nick and Elisa asked in unison.

Derek shrugged, not seeing the problem. "I mean, his clothes are really awful and ugly,"

His friend, Aiden nodded in agreement. "Not to mention that it makes him look like he's gay or a pissant,"

"Okay, you really need to stop talking about him," Elisa said, getting Derek and his friends to look at them weirdly.

"Oh, come on. Don't tell me you're gonna defend that loser?" Derek's other friend, Lucas asked.

"He's my brother and her best friend. Obviously we're gonna defend him," Nick said, before showing them the note. "What does this even show?"

"Open it if you wanna know so badly," Derek says.

Nick and Elisa looked down at the note and they looked in it as Nick opened it. What the note read were words that Derek and his friends were using to describe Kevin.

PISSANT
GAY
FAGGOT

Elisa and Nick stared up at them while Derek, Aiden, and Lucas acted like they did nothing wrong. Elisa took the note and ripped it in half, letting it fall to the ground.

"Hey! What'd you do that for?" Aiden asked.

"We're not giving that to him," Elisa said.

Aiden rolled his eyes while Derek just patted Elisa's and Nick's heads as if they were a dog. "You two are just second graders. We wouldn't expect you guys to understand," Derek says.

"We may be second graders but we understand that bullying is wrong," Nick says, stepping back with Elisa so Derek wasn't patting their heads anymore.

"Well, they're fifth graders and we're second graders. Clearly they don't seem to be that smart, Nicky," Elisa shrugged, not noticing the angry looks and glares she was getting from that comment.

Nick reached over to his best friend and pulled her closer to him for protection since Derek and his friends were a lot more taller than them.

"You calling us dumb, brat?" Lucas asked angrily, glaring at her.

Elisa shrugged, "You say it, not me,"

Nick tool held of her hand and pulled her behind him for protection as Derek and his friends took one step closer to them. Aiden noticed Nick pulling Elisa close to him and smirked.

"Protecting your girlfriend? That's a smart move, kid," Aiden said, smirking as him and his friends took another step closer to him causing Nick and Elisa to back up.

As her and Nick were backing up, Elisa saw how close the fifth graders were getting and frowned. She made sure that her and Nick weren't showing it but they were indeed scared. What little kid wouldn't feel scared if you suddenly had a group of kids who were twice your size stepping closer to you?

"You guys are a bunch of jerks, you know," Elisa told them.

"I mean, the world is full of jerks. You gotta get used to it, you stupid brat," Derek said, earning a glare from Nick.

"Don't call her that," Nick said.

"Aw, what's the matter, kid? Upset that we're calling your little girlfriend stupid?" Aiden mocks.

"What's going on here?"

They looked over to see Kevin, Joe, Luke, and Emma coming over and they did not look happy at all. They weren't happy, they were pissed.

Pretending that everything is fine, Aiden and Lucas took a step back while Derek placed his arms around Nick's and Elisa's shoulders as if they were friends that were just chilling the whole time.

"Nothing, we were just chilling, that's all. No harm at all, right, guys?" Derek said, tapping Nick's and Elisa's back without them noticing.

Nick and Elisa didn't say anything as they bit their lips nervously, not knowing what to say. All they hoped was that Kevin, Joe, Emma, and Luke didn't believe him.

Without them noticing, Kevin balled his fists as he glared at Derek. Normally, he wouldn't care if he was getting picked on himself, but when it came to the people he called family, that's when you crossed the line.

"Okay, if that was true, then let them go," Luke said.

Derek, Aiden, and Lucas noticed Kevin getting upset and Derek thought of another way to mess with him.

"How come? I mean, we're just pals hanging out," Derek smirked, sending a look to his friends, one that they understood.

"Yeah, we just wanted to hang out with them." Aiden smirked.

"Show them around the place, introduce a new 'friend' to them," Lucas smirked.

Elisa and Nick did their best not to shiver in fear or even show the slightest hint of fear, but with one look, Joe, Kevin, Emma, and Luke could tell that they were starting to get scared. By now, Emma, Luke, and especially, Kevin were fuming angrily.

"Look, just leave them alone. We already know you're lying," Luke finally spoke up, just by his voice, you could tell that he was pissed off.

"Or else what? You're gonna punch me?" Derek taunted. "You wouldn't dare to do it as long as I have them, will you now?"

"That's it! I had it!" Kevin snapped.

The next thing that happened was that while Kevin and Luke were in a fight with Derek, Aiden, and Lucas. Joe and Emma pulled Nick and Elisa over to them and lightly pushing Nick and Elisa towards Emma, Joe ran over to help out Kevin and Luke while delivering a few punches on Derek, Aiden, and Lucas.

"What happened?" Emma asked, looking down at Nick and Elisa.

"We were just hanging out by the fence while waiting for you guys." Elisa said.

"Then, they came over and gave us a note that they wanted us to give to Kevin. But then, they started saying stuff about him so we defended him," Nick explained.

"I may have called them dumb in the progress too and that's when they started to come closer to us. But I was upset about what they were saying, so I, uh, sorted called them dumb. That's what happened," Elisa added.

"We're not gonna get in trouble, right?" Nick asked.

Emma shook her head. "No, you guys were just defending Kevin and yourselves. We'll make sure that you two won't get in trouble,"

Suddenly, the sound of someone clearing their throat caught everyone's attention causing the fight to stop as they all looked over to see the teachers standing there, making them all nervous. Nick and Elisa couldn't help but fidgeted with their fingers nervously, already knowing where this was heading as they were all forced to follow the teacher to the main office to see the principal. When the principal was ready to see them, Nick and Elisa were frozen like a deer caught in headlights to enter the principal's office and Joe looked over at them, giving them a soft nod as a way to assure them that everything was gonna be fine. Slowly, Nick and Elisa enter the office following close behind their older siblings and stood away from Derek and his friends, slightly hiding behind Joe as they all sat down in front of the desk.

"Before you say anything, I'd just like to say that it was their fault since they started it," Lucas said, gesturing over to Nick and Elisa โ€” who hid behind Joe even more when Lucas pointed at them.

"Oh, that's some bullโ€”" Luke started to said, only for Emma and Kevin to elbow him in the sides to keep him from finishing that word in front of Nick and Elisa.

"Just say the truth and be honest about what really happened," the principal said.

"Well, we weren't doing anything. We just wanted to tell them to say hi to them for us and these two suddenly start threatening us and when the rest of them got there, they just started fighting us for no reason," Aiden lied.

"That's bullcrap! That's not what happened and you know it!" Luke shouted.

"Who was there first? I want to hear their opinion," the principal said.

Nick and Elisa sunk in their seats as Joe, Kevin, Emma, and Luke looked at them, giving the principal the answer he needed. Before Nick and Elisa even had the chance to say anything, Derek leaned over to tell them something.

"Say what really happened and you'll see what will happens," Derek told them, glaring at the them.

"Or what? What are you gonna do? Try to do something to them and you'll see what I'll do to you," Joe threatened, glaring right back at Derek as he pulled the chairs that Nick and Elisa were sitting in closer to him.

"You're just not happening your case if you really think you can try to pretend to be innocent," Emma told Derek.

Kevin glanced over at the principal.

"You did just hear him threatened them, right?" Kevin asked, hoping that it was clear who's lying and who's not.

The principal nodded and looked at Nick and Elisa for them to explain. Nick and Elisa bit their lips nervously, refusing to say anything at first.

Derek rolled his eyes and muttered, "Babies,"

"If I hear one more comment from you, we're gonna have another fight," Luke said, as Joe looked at Nick and Elisa and motioned that it was okay.

"Can they wait outside the office? That way it'd be easier for them to say what really happened," Emma said.

The principal nodded and looked at Derek, Aiden, and Lucas. "You three go wait outside and I'll be back for you three when I'm done with them,"

Mumbling under their breath, Derek, Aiden, and Lucas got up and left the office, slamming the door behind them purposely as a way to make Nick and Elisa slightly jump at the sudden sound. Once they were gone, it was a bit easier for them to say what really happened and soon, they were done and Derek, Aiden, and Lucas were called back in the room.

"Instead of going to recess, you three are going to be in detention till these behaviors of yours are done and I don't hear about them again," the principal told Aiden, Derek, and Lucas before looking at all of them. "I still have to call all of your parents and let them know what happened. So, you can wait in the front office for them to come,"

*

"We're not gonna get in trouble with mom and dad, right?" Nick asked. Each one of them had their bags with them and were on one side of the front office, waiting for their parents to come with Derek, Aiden, and Lucas on the other side of the front office to keep them separated. The main thing that Nick and Elisa were worried about were their parents' reactions.

"No, mom and dad will understand," Joe told his little brother.

"They'd just be glad that we're okay. Besides, you guys were only defending Kevin so they'll definitely understand," Emma says.

"Which you guys didn't have to do for me. It was okay for you two to walk away from them," Kevin said.

"We know, but we wanted too," Elisa said. "They never should've been saying these things anyways,"

"And it wasn't true what they say too," Nick added.

"Okay, you two are gonna make me cry, I swear. Get over here," he told them.

Nick and Elisa hopped off of their seats and went over to Kevin, giving him a hug. Soon, it was a group hug as one by one, the rest of them joined too. Once it was over and they pulled away, Nick and Elisa had one more question.

"What's a faggot?"

"You guys are too little to know. We're not telling you,"
