The soft glow of my laptop lit up the otherwise dim living room as I leaned back on my couch, staring at the seemingly endless timeline on my editing software.
My latest vlog was coming together, but every time I watched it back, I found another thing to tweak.
"Why do I talk so much?" I muttered, scrubbing through a clip of myself rambling about how I forgot my wallet at home. Again.
The sound of my phone buzzing distracted me. I glanced over, grabbing it from the desk. It was a text from Madelyn.
Madz 🤤♡:
What are you doing right now?
I smirked, typing back quickly.
Baby Evans 🤭♡:
Editing. Trying not to lose my mind. You?
Her response came almost instantly.
Madz 🤤♡:
Please tell me you're putting the wallet clip in! I was thinking about how you're the only person who could make forgetting a wallet sound like a life-or-death situation 😂
Baby Evans 🤭♡:
I'm a natural storyteller, what can I say? 😏
Madz 🤤♡:
It's why people adore you, baby.
Her texts always made me smile like an idiot. I typed back, grinning.
Baby Evans 🤭♡:
Stop trying to flatter me out of my shorts 🤭
Madz 🤤♡:
Mmm no I'm not but, I can come do it in person instead. I'll be over soon 😘
The thought of seeing her pulled me out of my editing funk. I closed the laptop with a sigh of relief and started tidying up the living room.
I wasn't a slob, so there wasn't much to really clean up, just had to vacuum and put a few things away.
. . .
The knock on my door came just as I finished lighting a candle on the coffee table, its warm glow making the space feel cozier.
I opened the door, my stomach flipping at the sight of Madelyn standing there.
She held a bag of takeout in one hand and a bottle of wine in the other. Her casual outfit—fitted jeans and a snug cream sweater—made her look effortlessly stunning.
Her hair was tied back in a loose ponytail, with a few strands framing her face in a way that was almost unfair.
"Hey," she greeted, her smile soft but warm, as though she'd been looking forward to this as much as I had. She lifted the takeout bag slightly. "I come bearing tacos."
I stepped aside, my lips twitching into a grin. "You might be the perfect woman."
Madelyn arched a brow, brushing past me as she walked in. The familiar scent of her perfume followed, floral and just a little sweet. "Might be?" she teased, setting the food and wine on the counter.
"Definitely are," I amended, closing the door and leaning against it. I watched as she began unpacking the takeout containers, her movements confident but unhurried.
Her lips quirked into a smile without turning to face me. "Glad you're catching on."
"Trust me, I've been caught," I muttered under my breath, loud enough for her to hear. She shot me a knowing look over her shoulder, and I knew I was in trouble—the good kind.
I walked over to her, engulfing her shorter frame into me before placing a kiss on her lips followed by a quick peck to her cheek as she blushed.
. . .
Madelyn was sitting cross-legged on the couch, scrolling through her phone with a small smile on her lips. She'd already changed into one of my hoodies, looking effortlessly cozy and somehow still managing to take my breath away.
My phone buzzed and I saw who was calling.
Stiles Stilinski 🥍 calling...
I groaned inwardly, bracing myself.
"Hey, Dyl," I answered, as I kept fixing up the pillows on the couch.
"Heyyyy terd," he said, his tone suspiciously cheerful. "What're you doing?"
"Just hanging out at home," I replied cautiously, side-eyeing Madelyn, who was now watching me curiously.
"Oh, great! Anna and I are downstairs."
I froze, the throw pillow slipping from my hands. "What?"
"We're downstairs," he repeated slowly, like I hadn't heard him the first time. "Thought we'd swing by. You know, to liven up your otherwise boring evening."
"Dylan—" I started, but he cut me off.
"Don't even think about saying no. We're already buzzing in."
I turned to Madelyn, panic etched across my face. "Dylan and Anna are here."
Madelyn tilted her head, amused. "Okay?"
"I mean, they're... here, here. Downstairs. And they're coming up."
She set her phone down and stood, crossing the room to where I was still holding the phone like it was a bomb about to go off. "It's fine. Let them come up."
"Are you sure?" I asked, lowering my voice. "They're... a lot."
Madelyn grinned, leaning against the counter. "I think I can handle your friends."
I sighed, pressing the button to buzz them in. "Don't say I didn't warn you."
Moments later, the knock at the door came, loud and insistent. I opened it to find Dylan and Anna grinning like maniacs, each holding a bag of snacks and drinks.
"Surprise!" Dylan exclaimed, pushing past me without waiting for an invitation.
"Hi, Y/n/n," Anna said sweetly, patting my shoulder before following him in. "We brought snacks."
"You also brought chaos," I muttered, closing the door.
Dylan had already zeroed in on Madelyn, his eyes narrowing as he pointed at her. "Oh shit sorry. Hi, you must be the infamous Madelyn Cline."
Madelyn raised an eyebrow, a small smirk playing on her lips. "Infamous, huh?"
"You've been stealing our friend's attention," Dylan said, crossing his arms. "We demand an explanation."
"An explanation?" she echoed, her tone playful.
"Yes," he said, nodding seriously. "What are your intentions with our beloved Y/n?"
Anna groaned, smacking Dylan's arm. "Oh my God, you're embarrassing."
"I think it's sweet," Madelyn said, her smirk widening. "Very protective of you."
Dylan puffed out his chest, clearly pleased with himself. "See? She gets it."
Anna rolled her eyes, plopping onto the couch and patting the spot next to her. "Ignore him. Sit down, tell us everything. How'd you two meet? What's Y/n like when she's not being insufferable?"
"Wow, thanks, Anna," I said dryly, flopping onto the armchair across from them. I don't even know why she was asking these questions like she didn't already know the answers.
Madelyn sat beside Anna, her body relaxed and her smile easy.
"We met through Chris, went on a blind date and now she can't seem to get enough of me." Madelyn smirked, sending me a playful wink.
Madelyn laughed, leaning back into the couch. "She was charming, funny, and everything I didn't expect."
Dylan slapped his knee, howling with laughter. "Oh wow, she's charming? That's crazy to believe"
"Ultimate rizzler," Madelyn added, her eyes twinkling with amusement.
Anna shook her head, her grin widening.
"Okay, enough about me," I interjected, throwing a throw pillow at Dylan to shut him up. "What about you guys? How was your day?"
"Deflection," Dylan said, catching the pillow easily. "A sure sign of embarrassment."
"Can you not?" I groaned, burying my face in my hands.
"Fine," Anna said, leaning toward Madelyn conspiratorially. "But seriously, how's it going with her? Is she behaving?"
"She's perfect," Madelyn replied, glancing at me with a softness that made my heart stutter.
Anna sighed dramatically. "Disgustingly cute. I love it."
Dylan wasn't done yet. He leaned closer to Madelyn, his expression serious. "So, real talk—Teen Wolf. Y/n told me you were a fan,"
Madelyn tilted her head, her smirk returning. "I might've watched a few episodes, or binged the entire series a few times." Madelyn said shyly.
"I was your favorite, huh?" Dylan said, grinning.
Madelyn paused, her face thoughtful. "Actually... it was Derek."
Dylan's jaw dropped. "Derek?! Not even Stiles?!"
Anna and I began to laugh at him, he wasn't used to the answer not being him. Most people usually say he was the best character.
"Sorry," she said, biting back a laugh. "Derek had that brooding thing going on. Very mysterious."
"You wound me," Dylan said, clutching his chest dramatically.
"You'll survive," she teased.
Anna rolled her eyes. "He's going to bring this up for weeks now. Thanks for that."
Madelyn laughed, leaning back against the couch. "Glad I could contribute."
The four of us ended up having a pretty fun night. My best friends really got to know Madelyn which made me happy, seeing how seamlessly she fit in with them and how great the interaction was.
I could tell Dylan and Anna absolutely loved her and she loved them.
After Dylan and Anna finally left—with Dylan insisting that Madelyn was officially part of their circle now—the apartment felt quieter.
Madelyn and I curled up on the couch, her head resting on my shoulder as we let the silence settle around us.
"They're fun," she said after a while, her voice soft.
"Yeah," I agreed, running my fingers through her hair. "They really liked you."
"Good," she murmured, tilting her head up to meet my gaze. "Because I like them."
I smiled, leaning down to kiss her softly. "I think they'd adopt you if they could."
She laughed, her arms tightening around me. "Maybe they already have."
We stayed like that for a while, wrapped up in each other, the TV playing softly in the background. It was easy, comfortable—everything I didn't know I needed.
. . .
Later, as we got ready for bed, Madelyn sat at my bathroom counter, her hair wrapped in a towel as she went through her nighttime routine. I leaned against the doorway, watching her with a small smile.
"What?" she asked, catching my reflection in the mirror as she was shaving her leg.
"Nothing," I said, shaking my head. "You're just adorable." I spoke as I caught her taking pictures.
"The world deserves to know how cute I look right now."
She smirked at me before she finished up in the bathroom before coming into my bedroom and getting comfortable as she cuddled into me.

Madelyn grinned, showing me her phone. "Think they're onto us?"
"Just a little," I replied, laughing as I pulled her close. "But I don't mind."
She smiled, leaning into me. "Me neither."
And as we climbed into bed, her head resting on my chest, I couldn't help but feel like everything was exactly where it was supposed to be.
