CHAPTER 2 — A DATE?

BENNY RODRIGUES LEANED against the wall of the side of the school waiting for Ada.

As a minute past, he felt a tap on his shoulder.
When he turned around, he saw her.

"Hey!" Ada chirped happily with her usual bright smile.

Benny felt his stomach twist with nervousness as he inhaled.

"So, you going to Joan's part?" The Latino boy asked as Ada raised her eyebrow. "So your starting our conversation over a party you know I will never be able to go to? Great conversation starter, Benjamin" Ada replied turning around and walking off.

Benny chased after her pulling up his book bag. "Ok, sorry. How was your day?" He asked, restarting the conversation.

"It was okay, how about yours?" She asked grabbing Bennys right hand and intertwining it with her left.

"Better now that I'm with you" Benny smirked as he watch as a light shade of pink tinting Ada's cheeks.

Both teenagers walked down their street in silence while Ada swung their intertwined hands back and fourth.

As the two stepped onto the sidewalk, they noticed a younger boy staring at them as he placed down a box next to the moving truck.

The boy waved at the teenagers. Benny nodded his head in acknowledgement and began walking towards Ada's house across the street from his.

He walked her up the doorstep.
"So, I'll pick you up at 7?" He asked.

Ada laughed, "if you can convince my dad to let me go, then yes" she replied opening the screen door.

"Don't worry, just be ready before 7" Benny winked at the girl before he started walking across the street towards his house.

'I just need to convince him to let his youngest daughter come to a party with her best friend, that won't be hard at all'

The house phone rang loudly in the Lawrence house making Sarah run right to it.

"Hello?!" Sarah called into the phone.

"Hey, is Ada home?" Benny asked over the line.

Sarah sighed, "Ada! It's for you!" She called out to her stepsister.

Ada walked over to the phone thanking Sarah before putting the phone to her ear. "Hello?"

"Hey Ada, are you excited for the party?" Benny asked.

Ada smiled hearing Bennys voice over the line. "Benny" Ada said wrapping the cord around her finger and leaning against the wall, "you know very well I can't go, my dad won't allow it" the brunette sighed.

Benny chuckled, "yea, well you better hurry and get ready cause I'll be coming over to your house at 7 to pick you up"

Ada widely smiled, "alright! Yea, I'll see you at 7!" She said as she hung up the phone.

As soon as the phone hit the line, Ada's father, David, walked in the house taking off his work tie and throwing it onto the ground before walking to his daughter and kissing her forehead.

"Who were you on the phone with sweetheart?" He asked taking his jacket off and hanging it on the hanger. "Benny" Ada shrugged with a happy smile, "He's going to pick me up soon, what time is it?" She asked.
David looked at his watch. "6:34" He responded before realization hit him. "Wait, Benny's going to pick you up? To where is he bringing you? Better not be his bedroom-" Ada cut him off  "Ew no! Just a little get together with some friends" Ada hurried and ran upstairs to get ready for the 'get together' leaving a shock David standing near the front door.

David shook his head. Heading to the kitchen, David saw his wife and gave her a kiss on her lips. Annie stepped back in surprise. "Woah, hello. Didn't know you were right there" Annie chuckled continuing to mix the waffle mix together.

David looked around the kitchen and finding only many dirty plates, ones full of food, Halle eaten food, and some clean.

"Honey," David spoke grabbing his wife's hands. "Are you ok?"
Annie nodded her head with a bright smile. "Other than feeling sick in the morning and being hungry all the time, of course I'm alright!"

As soon as Annie responded, the doorbell rang.

Ada, who was now running down the stairs, opened the door with a bright smile.

"Hi!"

Benny stood frozen at the door in shock. Ada wore a pink dress with pockets on the side as her light brown hair was clipped in the back.

"Uh-hi"

Ada smiled widely before chuckling and grabbing Bennys hand.

"Woah, woah, where are you two going?" David continued, "better not be that party"

Benny looked back at David before shaking his head. "Of course not! I'm just taking her out for a quick burger and milkshake, just like I told you" Benny reassured before running down the pathway with Ada.

As Benny and Ada walked down the sidewalk laughing, a figure appeared and was jumping out of a window of Ada's house.

And apparently the shadow jumped out of her older sister, Julie's, room. The figure stepped into the dim light of the lamppost before being exposed.

"Julie? What are you doing?" Ada asked as her older sister stepped more into the light of a lamppost.

Julie's eyes widened at the sight of her younger sister and best friends younger brother dressed up.

"Uh- nothing?" Julie shrugged walking back to the Lawrence residence.

Ada followed. "Don't tell me your sneaking out to go 'play' with Lo?" The brunette asked teasingly.

Julie's face flushed before mumbling, ""You better not tell anyone about this, neither will you Benjamin. I already trust you with my younger naive sister"and she started speed walking towards the Porters house and knocked on a window.

Soon enough, the window opened and Julie hopped in before it closed.

"So" Benny started grabbing Ada's left hand, "shall we get going?"
