THE SCHOOL LUNCH BELL rang as kids of all grades ran out the school doors and into the baseball field to watch the last game of the year, varsity vs jr. varsity.

Ada hurried her way outside with her 5 best friends and sat down on the sidelines of the field watching as both teams get ready to play against each other.

"Who do you think is gonna win?" Blaire asked as she took a bite of her baloney sandwich.
Meila stared at Yeah-Yeah who was fixing his glove on his hand and getting his lunchbox out at the same time, "Yeah-Yeah for sure," Meila replied dreamily placing a single hand upon her check as she kept staring at Yeah-Yeah.

Ada turned towards the dark skinned girl with a sly smile. "Meila you keep staring at him. If you want to make your crush on him even more obvious, just yell that you love him-"

Before Ada could finish talking, Meila covered her mouth with her hand.

"Don't talk so loud- Ew! Did you just lick my hand?" Meila shook her hand off with a disgusted look on her face.

Ada laughed loudly and got out her lunch pale an started eating her lunch as well as the rest of her friends.

"So Ada" Kwan'i started placing down her sandwich, "How are you and the jet doing?" Ada and Benny 'the jet' have been best friends ever since the Lawrence family moved to California in 1953 when Ada was just about to turn 5, it was pretty big once she made friends with the neighbors son.

Ada rolled here eyes before taking a bite out of her sandwich "Fine, unless you want extra details" Ada muffled as she spoke while chewing.
The Four girls squealed with excitement as Blaire furrowed her brows. "No talking while your chewing Ada" Blaire said sternly before going in a giggle fit with the others.

Before Ada could start speaking, cheers crowded the baseball field as her best friend, Benny, went up to home plate with a bat.

"Isn't this exciting?" Kwan'i spoke up as she bounced on her knees excitedly.

Ada nodded as she watched Benny get into stance and sent a nod to the pitcher from the other team.

"I heard that Joan is throwing a party tonight to celebrate the first day of summer" Katie said as she looked at her friends, "we should go!"
Heather, Kwan'i, Meila, Katie, and Blaire squealed with delight as they started a conversation of what dress to wear.

Ada stayed silent as she watched all her friends giggle. Katie looked at Ada and stopped laughing and talking along with the he others. Soon, they all relaxed that their two other friends weren't talking.
"Ada, are you ok? What's with the sad face?" Katie asked. Ada looked back at her with raised eyebrows, "you really think my dad would let me go?"

Katie looked back at all the other girls who were now staring at the field and eating their lunches. "Can't you ask him? I mean you are thirteen and we're in the seventh grade! We're supposed to have fun!" Katie yelled making others turn their way towards them.

Ada ignored Katie's question as the baseball game started as well the rest of the friends did too. Katie kept on begging the brunette to ask for permission for the party, an then Ada gave up. "Ok, fine! Ill ask my dad! But don't be surprised if he says no" Ada groaned.

Katie squealed as she wrapped her arms around her best friend hug in her tight. "Thank you!" Katie squealed before turning her attention back to the game like the others.

Benny was now running from 2nd base to 3rd base as the other team tried getting him out. He stomped onto third base making dust puff onto the grass and his shows as he ran back and forth.

All of the sandlot boys ran closer to the field encouraging Benny to run faster as Ham decided to tease the other team.
"Hey! My grandma can throw better than you Samuel!" Ham yelled at the catcher. "Shut up!" Samuel yelled back. Before Samuel could come back to the game, Benny had already stepped onto home plate.

Loud Cheers erupted from the field for the Sandlot teams win. Ada stood up running towards Benny and the sandlot boys as they patted Benny's back.

Ada took Benny's LA Dodgers hat and placed it onto her head. "Congratulations Benjamin, you won the game" Ada congratulated with a smile.
Benny smiled back and put an arm around the brunettes shoulders before joining in a conversation with the rest of the group.

The school bell rung making kids run from left to right getting back into school for the last lesson of the day.

"Hey, ma'? Can we meet up after school? I wanna talk to you bout' something" Benny told the brunette as they walked into the school doors. "Of course!" She replied before sneaking a kiss on his cheek and walking into her classroom.
The Latino boy placed one hand on his cheek with a dazed smile on his face and started walking towards his last lesson of the day.

'She kissed my cheek' he whispered to himself, walking into science.
