Chapter Fifty-Seven
πŸ’° Perishable πŸ’°

"It's not just that she could still be alive-" Amara said as she, Stiles, Lydia, Makena and Stilinski walked into his office, "It's that she would've had to fake her death." Lydia finished making Makena raise her eyebrows at her. "Your grandmother, Lorraine Martin, faked her death?" Makena asked and the three of them nodded.

"Definitely."

"Maybe."

"More than likely."

"Oh, I'm guessing you got a story to back this up?" Stilinski sighed, "She might be helping the Benefactor..." Lydia trailed off and Amara nodded. "Or is the Benefactor." She said making Stilinski nod, "That sounds like a story worth hearing." He said then shut the door but opened it after a few minutes of talking.

"Anybody seen Parrish?" He asked, glancing around, "Haigh?" He asked making Haigh look up slightly wide eyed. 'Haven't seen him." He said, shaking his head while Amara looked at him wearily before Stilinski nodded and shut the door.

Lydia was about to say something but Amara glanced out the window right as someone walked through the front doors. "Holy shit..." She mumbled making everyone follow her gaze to see Parrish, covered head to toe in black smudges, charge at Haigh making Haigh shot a couple times. "Hey! HEY!" Stilinski yelled rushing out of the office with his gun drawn.

Parrish punched Haigh causing him to accidentally pull the trigger, shooting Stilinski in the shoulder making Lydia scream. Stiles and Makena rushed over to him while Amara ran forward.

"Parrish!" Amara yelled but he was obviously to focused on beating the shit out of Haigh. "Jordan!" Amara yelled as she grabbed Parrish's shoulder, pulling him away from Haigh before he killed him. "That's enough." She said and his heavily breathing started to calm down, "You calm now?" She asked and he look a deep breath before nodding.

"What happened?" She asked and he glared down at Haigh, "He tried to burn me alive." Parrish said making Amara look at him confused. "How?" She asked making him look at her, "He trapped me in a car and poured gasoline everywhere before lighting it on fire." He explained making her look shocked.

"And you're still alive with no burns..." Amara mumbled slightly as she glanced back at her mother who looked just as shocked.

πŸ’°

"He covered you in gasoline?" Derek asked as he looked at Parrish's hands with a conflicted look, "It's the hair and nails, isn't it? The parts of the body that are essentially dead." Lydia said as she came up to stand next to Amara. "They should be gone." Derek said and Parrish looked at him crazy, "I was set on fire! All of me should be gone." He said.

"Not if you're like us." Scott said and Amara shook her head, "Well- That debatable. The two of you get set on fire you'll either die or be in a coma for six years. Me, on the other hand, the worse thing that could happen is my clothes burn away." Amara said making Parrish look at them confused.

"Hold on- like you?" He asked, "I don't think he's like us." Derek said shaking his head and Amara sighed. "He definitely isn't. The only thing that I know of who can walk out of a burning car is me. And he's not like me." She said looking over at Derek who shrugged and shook his heads, "Sorry, but I have no idea."

"But you knew about Jackson and Kira." Scott said and Derek sighed, "This is a little out of my experience. There might be something in the bestiary- did you try Argent?" Derek said and Scott sighed and shook his head. "I don't know where he is." Scott said and Amara nodded slightly, "My mom's out looking for him." She said.

"Okay, hold on- what's a bestiary Actually, that's not even my first question. Just... Just tell me one thing. Are all of you like Lydia?" Parrish asked making them look at him confused, "Are you all psychic?" Parrish asked making Derek look at him crazy while Amara chuckled as she glanced at Lydia.

"Not exactly."

"Okay then what are you?" He asked and they all looked at Scott and Amara. They both closed their eyes for a moment before opening them to reveal their ruby-red eyes.

πŸ’°

"What's a Kanima?" Parrish asked sitting on the couch making Amara chuckle and look at Scott. "We'll get back to that. Just know that everyone like us- everyone with some kind of supernatural ability, is on the Deadpool." Scott explained, while sitting down on the arm of the couch.

"But I don't even know what I am."

"I'm pretty sure they don't care." Derek said making Parrish look over at him, "How many professional assassins are we talking about?" Parrish asked and Lydia sighed. "We're starting to lose count." She said and Amara nodded slightly.

"But is it still just professionals?" Scott asked and Parrish slightly shook his head, "I don't think Haigh's ever tried anything like this. I think he was taking a chance." Parrish said looking at each of them making Amara sigh and run a hand through her hair. "That means anyone with the Deadpool could take a chance." She said glancing at all of them.

"But if Haigh had it, then who else does? How easy is it to get this thing now?"

πŸ’°

"Meredith was only at my grandmother's lake house once... But I think once was enough." Lydia said as she sat down next to Amara on the bed. "How did your grandmother know her?" Derek asked and Lydia looked at him and shook her head.

"She didn't. She found her. Because of another woman named Maddy." She said showing Amara a picture of two women, "The woman she loved." She continued, standing up to hand the picture to Scott. "I never met her, but I saw her name everywhere. She used to be part of a yacht racing team. There were plaques and trophies in the lake house from all the regattas she'd won."

"How did she die?" Parrish asked.

"How's not the story... It's what happened right before. My grandmother, Lorraine, used to work in San Francisco for IBM." She explained then started to walk back and forth. "She was there on a weekend, catching up on work. She started hearing this sound, like rain. But, when she looked out the windows..All she saw was blue sky."

"But she kept hearing the rain?" Scott asked and Lydia nodded slightly, "And it just kept getting louder. Rain and thunder, cracking like gunshots in her head... so loud, she finally just... screamed."

"Like a Banshee." Amara said and Lydia glanced at her and nodded. "She called Maddy, who was planning on taking one of the boats out on the lake... But Maddy said that the sun was shining there, too... So, Lorraine didn't say anything."

"There was an accident?" Parrish asked.

"It took them four days to find Maddy's body... and then it took decades to figure out how Lorraine knew. She started with parapsychologists- like the Ph.D in their name made it more scientific. They built the study in the lake house according to every pseudoscientific theory they could find. None of it worked. So then, she started going to more extreme occult- things like mediums and psychics, all of them failures... Until she found Meredith. They found her in Eichen House... this fragile girl who didn't understand the things she heard. They brought her to the study... and they almost killed her. She was hospitalized for over a year. She... never really recovered."

"My grandmother drove her insane. I drove her to suicide. And all she ever wanted to do was help. My grandmother created the code for the Deadpool. They think she's the Banshee who put the names out in the first place. She left me this message in the same code." Lydia said sliding over a piece if paper.

"But she didn't leave a cipher key, did she?" Scott asked and Lydia sighed and shook her head.

πŸ’°

"Try "Maddy." It's got to be Maddy." Stiles said as he stood behind Amara and Lydia who sat at his desk. "Doesn't "Maddy" feel a little obvious as a cipher key?" Amara asked and Stiles shook his head, "I guarantee it's "Maddy." He said and Lydia sighed before typing in MADDY. She pressed enter and all that came up was "Error" making Stiles pursed his lips.

"Okay, your name. She left the code for you, right? So, it's got to be your name." Stiles said and Lydia started typing in her name. Error. "Your mom's name?" Stiles asked and Lydia typed in her mom's name which also came up as error.

"Do you have any beloved family pets?" Stiles asked making Lydia pinch the bridge of her nose while Amara leaned her head on the back of the chair and groaned. "The ashes were left for you. The code was left for you. You're supposed to be able to figure this out." Stiles said making Lydia sigh.

"But no one else is... which is why she made it hard." Lydia said and Amara squinted in annoyance before turning to Stiles as his printer beeped for the hundredth time. "I'm gonna throw that printer out the window if you dont turn it off." She said making Stiles instantly walk over and grab a stack of paper, shoving it into the printer.

Amara looked at Lydia for a minute before realizing something, "You... "No one else." No one else but you..." She trailed off making Lydia look at her confused, "What?" She asked making Amara sit up. "Our guesses- they're all about Lorraine. We keep trying to guess a word that has something to do with her. So, maybe we should be trying to guess one that's about you." Amara said and Stiles caught on to what she was saying.

"Me? What about me?"

"What do you remember doing with your grandmother? You know, what was you guys', like, special thing? Did you go to the beach? You know, did you like ice cream, or...?" Stiles trailed off and Lydia pursed her lips, "We read." She said and Stiles and Amara nodded.

"Okay. What did you read?" Amara asked, "The Little Mermaid." Lydia said making Stiles squint slightly. "You read that movie?" He asked and Amara glanced at him, "It was a book first. Hans Christian Andersen." She said and Lydia nodded in agreement.

"Type it in. "Little Mermaid." Stiles said and Lydia sighed before typing it in. ERROR. She tried "Mermaid" next but that also came up as ERROR. "We read it every night. I got so obsessed with it, for three months I wouldn't respond to anything but "Ariel." It drove my parents crazy, but ...Grandma thought it was adorable." Lydia said then started trying in "Ariel."

She pressed enter and names started popping up. But none of them had numbers next to them like the other lists. "You recognize any of these?" Stiles asked and Lydia shook her head, "Just my grandmother." She said.

Stiles looked over at his printer which had been printing thing and pull out one of the papers. "Guys? We need to call Scott." Stiles said and handed Amara the paper. Her eyebrows furrowed slightly as she read it over, it was the deadpool but it was different. Liam was now worth eighteen million instead of three, but that wasn't it. Derek wasn't on the list anymore.

πŸ’°

"Well, it's not another Deadpool- more like an Already-Dead-pool." Parrish said as Amara, Lydia and Stiles looked over his shoulders at the laptop. "All of them? All dead?" Amara asked and Parrish nodded. "Within the last ten years. All suicides, and all at the same place-" Parrish said and Stiles sighed, "Eichen House."

"Lydia, Eichen House isn't a library. You need a warrant to get files from there." Stiles said and Lydia sighed, "My grandmother left me a list of ten suicides, including her own. There's got to be a reason why. Is there anyone there who's willing to help us?" She asked and realization crossed over Stiles's face.

"No... But there might be someone willing to take a bribe..."

πŸ’°

"A thousand." Brunski said making the three of them scoff, "A thousand dollars? To use one little key to open one little file room? Are you out of your mind?" Stiles asked looking at Brunski crazy and he just smirked. "When you got the keys, you make the price."

"Right. You actually think we have that kind of money?" Stiles asked and Brunski shook his head slightly, "I know you don't- if you did, Daddy Sheriff would have paid the bill by now. That's why I'm talking to them." He said looking over at Amara and Lydia.

Amara and Lydia glanced at each other before pulling out their wallets and pulled out some money. "I have five hundred." Lydia said, "And I got four." Florence said before they both dropped the money onto the desk.

Brunski smiled and leaned back to pull out a mix tape before flipping it around and putting it back into the player making them look at him weird. He turned back around, grabbing the money, giving it a quick sniff before grabbing the keys, "Follow me."

Brunski lead them to the records room as Amara protectively grabbed Lydia's arms. "Good?" He asked and Amara nodded, "Yeah. We can help ourselves." She said and he smirked before standing at the door way.

"Uh, Lydia, you got the list?" Stiles asked as he and Amara both kept an eye on Brunski while Lydia pulled the list out. "Lydia, why did you write two more names on here?" Stiles asked making Lydia look at him confused, "I didn't write anything..."

"This is your handwriting."

"Why would I write another name?"

"Why would you write ours?" Stiles asked handing Lydia the paper to show she had written Amara's and Stiles's name. "It was the tapes, wasn't it?" Brunski asked making the spin around, the second he did he grabbed Amara's shoulder and stuck a mistletoe filled syringe in her neck making Lydia scream. Amara felt a rush of dizziness flow through her as she fell to the ground.

Stiles went to grab Amara but Brunski pressed a taser to his chest making him fall to the ground next to Amara. Brunski laughed sinisterly, cracking his neck before turning to Lydia, "Your turn, sweetheart."

πŸ’°

Florence groaned slightly as Lydia screamed for help. The three of them had been restrained to one of the metal beams in the middle of the room. "Lydia, there's a lot of people screaming for help in a place like this. I don't think anyone's listening... or cares." Amara said as the effects of the mistletoe were slowly wearing off.

"Well, I'm open to better ideas... Because, if you didn't notice, all of those suicides were murders." Lydia said and Amara sighed, leaning her head back against the beam. "That's why she left you the message..." She mumbled and Lydia nodded slightly, "She predicted her own death. She knew I'd figure it out-"

"Once you were able to predict your own." Brunski cut her off as he walked back into the room making Amara try to discreetly pull against her restraints. "But they weren't murders. I'm not some serial killer like Ted Bundy, going around cutting up college girls." Brunski said, crouching down in front of Lydia.

"No, you're just an Angel of Death."

"I don't think you understand my level of commitment to my work here, Stiles. There are people here who don't simply need treatment- they need release. I helped them. I helped Lorraine." Brunski said making Amara grab Lydia's hand the best she should, "You killed her." Lydia said as her and Amara's fingers wrapped around each other.

"I helped her. And now, you can help me... Because there is something about it that's always bothered me." Brunski said before holding out a tape that had "Lorraine Martin" written on it. "Brunski, I will fucking end you..." Amara warned and Brunski just smirked before putting the tape into the player.

"What are you...? Brunski, what are you doing?"

"Don't worry, Lorraine... It's going to be all right... You're just going to have a little trouble breathing..."

"Hey. Lydia. Lydia look at me. Don't listen." Amara said softly making Lydia turn her head towards her, "Okay? Don't listen to it. Just focus on my voice, Princess. Don't listen to it- block it out. Okay? You can do it." Amara said as she slightly pulled on her restraints. "Hey, turn it off!" Stiles yelled and Brunski gritted his teeth before punching Stiles.

"Hey!" Amara yelled while Brunski grabbed Lydia's face. "Then listen... Just listen. I need your help with this, Lydia."

"Please, don't..."

"Here it is- the part I never understood. Listen."

"Please... don't hurt her..."

"Don't hurt who?"

"Ariel..."

Lydia gripped onto Amara's fingers as a tear ran down her face before Brunski stood up, grabbing something off the shelf. "We get a lot of teenagers trying to break into our drug cabinets...' He said making them look over at him. 'Most of the time, they don't succeed... But you three look pretty clever to me." He said as the three of them tried to fight against their restraints as he stuck a syringe into a bottle.

"I'll admit, Stiles... I don't have any unusual talents like Lydia or Amara. But somehow, I just knew we were gonna get a chance to do this again." Brunski said and started going towards Stiles with the needle before suddenly moving over to Lydia instead.

Amara growled underneath her breath before she kicked her legs out, wrapping one of her legs around his and pulling him down. She slammed her foot down on his knee, making him cry out in pain as a snap rang throughout the room. "You little bitch." Brunski hissed under his breath before getting up and grabbing the syringe again.

"Drop it!" Parrish suddenly yelled, pointing a gun at Brunski, "Drop the needle and slowly back away." Parrish demanded and Brunski slowly turned to him. "Young deputy... You're just a kid. I bet you've never even fired." Brunski said before grabbing Lydia's face ahain while holding the needle.

But before he could do anything Parrish pulled the triggers, shooting him making him let go of Lydia and fall to the ground. Amara ripped the restraints off as Parrish ran over and started getting Stiles out of his restraints while Amara got Lydia out. "He-He killed my grandmother. He was controlling Meredith." Lydia said as Amara helped her up.

"He used her to create the Deadpool-"

"And killed her when she tried to help us." Amara said before Brunski coughed up blood and laughed, "You think it was me? That I was controlling her? Idiots... She was controlling me." He choked out making realization cross over Lydia's features. "Oh, God... It's not him. He's not the Benefactor."

"No." Someone said making them look over to see Meredith walk into the room, "And... he wasn't on my list. But he was a bad person."
