"Dad! Ella! I got to go! Movie date with Bella!" Jacob's voice echoed through the small house. Daniella merely rolled her eyes when he stated the female's name and hummed in response from the couch, back facing the door where Jacob stood.
Billy, having enough of hearing the same name over and over again, yelled back. "Have fun!" then Daniella heard him mutter. "Just to be rid of you for the day, with all your Bella babbling." and him faintly shutting the door.
Daniella shook her head, as she stuffed her head into the book even more, to conceal her amusement. She felt Jacob smiled in excitement, before he bolted out the door and towards the truck. She let out a sigh and leaned back, eyes focused on one sentence that was encoded on the book. 'One sided love.'
Daniella's fingers curled around a sharp rock as she carved into the bark of a tree in the clearing. Gyu sat idle in the middle, watching as her hand hobbled from the amount of pressure she was pushing into the hard wood.
There was nothing entertaining activities back at home, that she just did whatever amused her. She suddenly gasped, hand flying to her chest where her heart was located. Her knees buckled as pain seared through her cardiovascular system.
Gyu shot up and galloped towards her and used his snout to nudge her up, trying to soothe her. He made a small sound of worry as tears streamed out of her eyes, dropping down and morphing into pearls, different small sizes.
She felt her heart beat, like it was compressed and with difficulty. Her eyes locked onto her chest, worry and disbelief etching her features. She let out a shaky breath, Gyu now sitting beside her, worried for her too.
She shook her head in denial. "No. No." she repeatedly muttered. She gulped and stared at the shaded brown of the bark. "It's too early." she murmured, rubbing her chest, trying to remove the mild faded pain.
Gyu helped her up and nudged her to sit on his back. She looked at him in confusion and straddling him nonetheless. She jolted forward and held onto his antlers gently as he galloped into the woods and weaved around the trees.
She let out a breath, looking around as the leaves flashed before her eyes. It felt like she was swimming. Her mouth etched up into a small smile, content outweighing her previous worry. Before she knew it, they stopped in front of a painfully familiar lodge.
"Harold." she uttered, hopping off Gyu and bowing. She slowly approached the front door and held up her hand, knocking. Shuffling noises was heard from the other side before the door was swung open, to the merfolk she met a few days prior.
She smiled at him. She had truly missed him. He looked at her, a sense of familiarity flickering in his eyes before he smiled and let her enter. His focus panned towards the deer. His eyes widened. He bowed as the deer returned it, before disappearing in the forest.
He watched him go before shutting the door. He knew the deer. The deer was like a support beam to new comers, especially merfolks. He smiled in thought and entered the living room. "Why did he bring you here?" he asked, gesturing towards the deer.
Daniella shrugged her shoulders. She didn't know either, but she was coming to a conclusion. "Is it because were the same species?" she voiced out her opinion. He pondered before nodding.
"What happened before you got here though?" he quizzed, plopping down beside her. She fidgeted in her spot beside him. "I felt it." she uttered lowly, making him lean towards her.
"What?" he asked for her to repeat it. "I felt it." she raised her voice until he could hear her. His body froze, his eyes staring at her, worried, shocked. "Isn't that too fast?" he whispered to himself.
Daniella's blue-purplish hues focused on him. "What is it?" she asked him, fear quivering her voice. He shook his head and instead, brought her into a tight hug.
Fear. That's what both of them felt. Fear of dying and the fear of extinction. Tears slid down her pale cheeks as he hugged her, worried.
Merfolks leave the water and step onto land to find their other half. But what they did not know, was that, the longer you stay on land, the shorter their life span is. However, there is one solution to this. Their other half, must love them back with the same amount of passion. But be aware, for they can only love once.
