((Just came back from a week break from school. So expect slow updates, kinda stressing over the fact that I have brand new classes. Anyway, my birthday is coming up pretty soon! Super excited.
Summary: I bump into Marv while in NYC
Words: 2.6k words
I was in the big city of NYC with my Dad and brother. Christmas time was here, and we were visiting Dad's brother for Christmas. He had moved to NYC a couple months ago and we haven't seen him since then. I missed my cousin because she was always so nice to me. And my uncle as well since he was probably the only funniest person I knew. Besides the fact that NYC was so fun during the holidays, it can also be dangerous. That's why Dad had given me a knife just in case I end up getting separated from him. I really hope I don't have to end up using it on someone. I've never even been in a situation where I needed protection. That was good though. I hope I don't experience it anytime soon. And then I jinxed myself while walking across the crosswalk while talking to Dad. I was the one who should've been paying close attention to the people surrounding us. "Cause that's why I wanted to go see Van Halen next year-" I said to Dad. But my sentence was cut off short by the feeling of someone bumping into me. Just as I was about to turn around to see who it was; it felt as if someone was trying to steal my bag. I stopped and started to yank my bag away from them. Dad seemed to notice right away. This stranger had what looked like duct tape wrapped around their hand, which was already covered in coins. Coins that were most likely stolen from a Christmas donation bucket. He finally seemed to get his hand free. I stopped and stared at this stranger. But that was where my biggest mistake happened. The moment when I fell for a complete stranger in NYC. That soft curly hair. The beautiful enchanting blue eyes. Then he said something in French which I couldn't quite make out, but I knew it was him flirting. My face started to heat up even though it was freezing outside. Dad seemed confused as to why I wasn't doing anything or confronting him about almost "stealing" my bag. "Marv, come on!" The shorter one said before pulling him along with him. But I continued to stand there and think really hard about the whole experience. Dad forced me to start walking so we could actually get to my uncle's house.

Me and Harry had just left the subway from leaving the fish truck. Harry seemed to be staring behind him as we were walking across the crosswalk. "What's the matter?" I turned around but couldn't quite grasp what he was looking at, "Thought I saw something." Harry mumbled. Before I could look back ahead of me, I accidentally bumped into someone. The tape on my hand got caught to her bag. I desperately tried yanking my hand off of her bag so I wouldn't create a bad impression towards her. But once she turned around after I eventually got my hand free; I was completely lovestruck. Beautiful dark wavy hair, brown eyes that matched her glasses. I said something to her in French to see if she even slightly liked me. There was no reaction from her. She didn't say anything, or do anything for that matter. She just kept staring at me until Harry pulled me along with him. Even after that I couldn't stop thinking about her. I just couldn't believe that I had already fallen in love with someone after literally just breaking out of prison not even a day ago. Harry would never let me even attempt to get into a relationship. He probably thinks I'm too immature for a relationship anyway.

The next day came and I was walking to the local toy store with my uncle, Dad, brother, and cousins. Everything was going really well as we all joked around and talked. But that's when I suddenly started to think about my encounter yesterday with this "Marv" while walking across the crosswalk. I wondered if I would ever see him again. But then again Dad would never let me date someone like him. Especially by the way he's dressed. It made me sad though, because he seemed so attractive to me. I'm a horrible overthinker and this was really bothering the hell out of me. But that was until we were all stopped at the edge of the sidewalk waiting for the cars to drive by. I didn't even realize at that moment who was standing behind me. I was far too focused on the conversation Dad was having with my uncle. Then again I was busy talking to my cousin to be aware about what was about to happen. My cousin was talking about what she wanted for Christmas, or what she wanted to pick out for herself at the toy store. Suddenly I felt the feeling of someone pinching my upper thigh. I abruptly stopped my conversation to turn around. That was when I saw Marv from yesterday. He smiled at me, "Well hello." The very thought of him doing that was enough to make me feel extremely embarrassed. My cousin looked confused, and that confused look caused my uncle to stop his conversation with Dad. Soon enough everyone with me had stopped to see who I was looking at. Marv suddenly started to say romantic things to me in French again. I was too flustered to even notice the small kid that was standing in between both of them. My thoughts were interrupted when Marv had suddenly grabbed my hand that was resting by my side. His lips met my hand and he lightly kissed the skin on my hand before saying, "For you, mon amour." His eyes gleamed brightly as he stared ahead at me. But the moment was ruined when the kid standing between them broke free and darted in the other direction. "Damnit, Marv!" The other one kicked Marv in the ankle, "Oww-" He said before stumbling after his friend to go after that kid. "Modesta, who was that?" My uncle asked me, "It was uh, someone I bumped into the other day." My face was still a bright red from Marv's previous actions. But why had Marv kissed my hand like that? I totally liked it and all, but I was just wondering. Nobody has ever done that to me. It just surprised me.
The next day arrived when I accidentally bumped into Marv a 3rd time. I was walking with Dad to get some coffee at the local cafรฉ. My thoughts were still wandering around about one thing in particular; Marv. Both my brother and Dad were chatting away while I was too busy thinking to even be involved in the conversation. I felt a hand land on my shoulder. I froze and whipped my head around to see Marv standing behind me. I sighed in relief, "You scared me." I breathed out, "I didn't mean to." He laughed lightly at my surprised reaction. "I wanted to apologize for getting my hand stuck to your bag the other day. I was going to yesterday, but I was too, uh- distracted." Marv said, "It's okay." I smiled up at him while he smiled back down at me. "It's because I put tape on my hand. See-" He tried lifting up his hand until I realized it was the hand that was resting on my shoulder. I smiled widely as I watched him attempt to yank his hand free from the fabric of my Windbreaker jacket. I absolutely loved how clumsy he was. It made him seem even more adorable than he already was. Marv was tall, clumsy, and a little stupid. That's what I loved about him. "I'm sorry." He said once he freed his hand from my shoulder, "You're fine." I giggled at the expression on his face. "Well-" He cleared his throat, "you aren't busy, are you?" He continued. The second I had realized that Marv was asking me out on a date, my entire face turned bright red. I knew I couldn't turn down this offer. Dad wouldn't like it, but he'll have to deal with it. "Are you asking me out?" I asked, "Uhmmm, yes-" He smiled awkwardly, "Then it's a yes." I answered. I noticed Marv looked behind us once I said that, but just shrugged it off. "Okay, alright, yes! It's a date," Marv laughed lightly, "Where do you wanna meet?" He continued, "I guess you could just meet me outside the apartment complex around 6 pm. You'll know because I'm heading there now." I answered while he just nodded at everything I said. "Oooh, I can't wait." Marv smiled from ear to ear, "Me too." I smiled.
Eventually I stopped at the entrance of the apartment complex where my uncle lived. I let Dad and my brother go ahead so I could talk to Marv. "This is just so amazing. I didn't think you'd agree." Marv kept ranting, "Of course I would." I responded as I watched his blue eyes sparkle underneath the late evening sun peeking behind the tall buildings. "I'll see you then." I pressed a kiss on his cheek before meeting back up with my family. The smile never left my face for a single second. I couldn't believe that I was actually going on a date for the first time in my life. It was unbelievable. Especially with someone as attractive as Marv. Everything felt absolutely perfect. But it was too perfect. Because we'd be leaving NYC after Christmas, and I wasn't sure how I was going to break the news to Marv. It was either live with my uncle or leave back to North Carolina and never see Marv ever again. I wasn't even sure if my uncle was even going to let me stay with them. They already have 2 kids to deal with as it is. But I tried my hardest not to think about it too much. All I wanted to focus on was the wonderful date in about an hour.
I changed into something a little warmer since I knew it usually gets colder at night. Just as I could see the exit doors of the apartment complex; I saw Marv standing there. I skipped towards the doors and pushed them open. "Hey, Marv!" I called out to him, "Modesta, hey!" He smiled and hugged me. Then we started to walk. I wasn't sure where we were going to go as a date. I glanced down at his gloved hand until a thought came to mind. My eyes scanned up at his face to see that he was too busy looking ahead of us. I smiled as my hand slipped into his. He immediately tensed up at the contact, but quickly became comfortable. "What was that for?" He looked down at me, "My hands were cold." I responded while leaning my head against his arm. We kept walking until we reached a cafรฉ. I borrowed some money from Dad. Well not really borrowed, stolen actually. I sat outside to avoid the stares from the people inside. "I can't believe I'm actually on a date with one of the most beautiful girls in the world." Marv spoke up, "Awwww. You're quite handsome yourself." My face became a deep crimson color at his comment. Marv looked over at me. And would be lying if I said I didn't almost die from the sight of how beautiful his eyes looked at this exact moment. They were illuminated by not only the decorative white lights hung outside, but by the bright shining stars above. "God, I don't know if I've already said this yet, but-" I continued to stare deeply into his eyes, "What?" He asked, "You've got the most beautiful eyes I've ever seen." I responded while leaning my head into the palms of my hands. "You really think so?" He blushed, "Yes, of course." I giggled at how embarrassed he looked.
"Well, do you actually live here or are you just visiting for the holidays?" Marv asked me, "I'm actually here to visit my uncle. I'm sadly leaving right after Christmas." I sighed. "But what about you?" I glanced up. Confusion washed over me when I noticed how much he tensed up after I asked him that. He leaned over the table, "You'll promise not to tell anyone?" He whispered, "Whatever it is, it's staying with me." I responded. Marv awkwardly bit his bottom lip before glancing at the almost dead streets of NYC, then taking his attention back towards. "Both me and my friend are fugitives from the law. We broke out of prison a couple days ago." He answered. My eyes widened from the shocking news. So that's why he looked somewhat homeless. He's probably not even originally from NYC. That explains a whole lot. "I'd understand that you wouldn't date a criminal." He mumbled, "No, Marv. I wouldn't care if you were a wanted mass murderer. My feelings would always be the same." I grabbed his hand, "Thanks." He smiled up at me.
I stopped in front of the apartment complex where my uncle lived. Marv was standing in front of me, still holding onto both my hands. "Thank you for giving me a chance and not thinking I'm a creep." Marv spoke up, "You're welcome." I laughed lightly at his remark, "Tonight you made me feel like the luckiest man alive." He continued, "And I hope that I can have the privilege of calling you my girlfriend soon." His lips became dangerously close to mine as he spoke. But I was too busy focusing on all the words he was saying to me. My heart felt like it was going to melt from the intense shower of compliments. Nobody has ever complimented me this much. It genuinely made me feel special. Like I actually meant something to someone. "That's gonna happen pretty soon. Because you're already my boyfriend." I answered his question from a moment ago, "Really?" His smile became even bigger, "Of course." I responded. "Why don't you guys just kiss already?" I heard somebody call out nearby. I looked behind Marv while he also turned around. And there was Marv's friend watching the both of us. "It would be easier if you weren't watching us." I answered, "Fine." He mumbled and turned around. I giggled lightly and took my attention back towards Marv. "As I was saying-" I continued, "Can I kiss you?" I asked. Marv's response was to lean down and press his lips against mine. His mustache tickled my upper lip, but it still felt amazing. I felt his hands slowly wrap themselves around my waist. "That was-" Marv breathed out, "Amazing." He looked down at me, "I could say the same. Now I've got to go before my Dad gets worried." I kissed his cheek, "I love you. I'll see you tomorrow morning." I said, "I love you too." He kissed the tip of my nose before I disappeared into the warmth of the apartment complex. The entire rest of the night I couldn't sleep just thinking about hanging out with Marv the next day. My heart couldn't stop beating from the kiss. Everything felt right. I knew I was in love. I knew that Marv had to be my soulmate.
