Summary: Marv breaks into my house with Harry and accidentally falls for me

Words: 3.3k words

Our family wanted to take a trip to Paris for Christmas. I didn't want to, I was nervous on plane rides, it made me sick. Besides, what's so good about Paris anyway? I don't even like French people that much anyway... But of course Dad was forcing everyone to go. Me and my youngest brother Kevin also seemed to be not looking forward to our trip to Paris either, he'd much rather stay home just like I wanted to. Who even spends Christmas by going to a different place besides spending it in the comfort of your own home? It was weird.

There was a cop downstairs by the front door, he gave me the creeps. I almost didn't wanna walk downstairs because of it. My anxiety is really bad when it comes to complete strangers. He tried talking to me when I finally mustered up the courage to go downstairs, but I just ignored him since I had just seen uncle Frank carrying pizza boxes into the kitchen. Cheese pizza has always been my favorite mostly because I never really appreciated pepperoni, it just didn't taste that good to me. Except my other brother Buzz had already beat me to it. There was no way in hell I was going to eat the other pizza, it had too much toppings on it for my liking. "Where's the cheese pizza?" I looked around the kitchen at my siblings, "In my stomach." Buzz looked at me with a smug grin. Just as I was about to open my mouth to say something, Kevin appeared beside me looking just as mad as I was. Suddenly his response was to shove Buzz onto the kitchen counter, spilling milk all over everyone's passports. I backed up in shock. Was I also going to be blamed for this? No, why would I? I'm just nervous. Instead of listening to the arguing going on, I squeezed past everyone and rushed upstairs to the 3rd floor just before the cop tried talking to me. Anger starts overtaking my emotions. Why would Buzz eat all me and Kevin's pizza? Didn't he have his own pizza? How did he even manage to eat all of it in such a short amount of time? This is why I hate having so many siblings. My rambling thoughts were abruptly stopped when I heard Mom ranting to Kevin about misbehaving. The 3rd floor door opened and that was when I could clearly hear the conversation between Kevin and Mom. Kevin seemed so mad to the point where he wished his family never even existed. It sounded really harsh. Mom must be upset. Why would Kevin even say such a thing? Even I wouldn't say something like that.

Kevin plopped down beside me on the pull-out couch. "Why is everyone such jerks to us?" He looked at me with his blue eyes, "Guess they just naturally hate us." I shrugged before my eyes scanned back up at the wooden beams on the ceiling. "I wish they'd just all disappear." He crossed his arms. I sighed at his behavior. I knew he was going to regret saying that later. I pulled the covers over myself, taking off my glasses, and laying down. But all the thoughts of today prevented me from getting even a wink of sleep. It was about an hour later until all the thoughts slowly faded away and were replaced with sleepiness.

The next morning sounded unusually quiet. Was it not time to wake up yet? I should check just in case. My hand lazily reached for my glasses before I threw myself out of bed. Kevin seemed to wake up as well from the sudden movement. He stood up and walked beside me until disappearing into the bathroom while I made my way downstairs. I peeked into the kitchen and saw it was just as empty as every other room in this house. Don't tell me they left without us. I mean, I really wouldn't mind because I didn't really wanna go to Paris in the first place. Being home alone would be really nice though. I wouldn't have anyone bossing me around constantly. Nobody telling me to turn down my music. Eventually all this confusion of everyone being gone turned into happiness. "I think everyone is gone." I turned towards Kevin who had just appeared at the bottom of the stairs, "That's strange." He walked past me into the kitchen. Thoughts wandered around in my mind the second I sat down at one of the kitchen stools. "Where could they possibly be? Did I really make my family disappear?" He sat down next to me as he spoke, "I don't know." I shrugged. Kevin leaped out of his seat and rushed to the front door. Worried he might get hurt, I followed him outside into the freezing snow. "Their cars are still here. They couldn't have gone to the airport." I followed behind him and back into the house. "Maybe we did make them disappear." I shrugged my shoulders. I knew they didn't actually disappear. They must've woken up late and were too much in a rush to even remember us. I just didn't say anything to Kevin because I didn't want him to get upset. So we were left to do whatever we wanted.

But when the next morning arrived, I noticed Kevin was missing from beside me. Worry started to overtake me. Maybe he's just downstairs making breakfast. I reached for my glasses and stumbled downstairs into the kitchen where it was empty. My pupils dilated while all the negative thoughts of what possibly could have happened took over my mind. But they soon stopped once I noticed a small note sitting on the kitchen counter. 'Went to the store, be back soon. - Kevin' I smiled in relief at the note. Soon it quickly disappeared once I realized that my 8 year old brother is walking outside in the cold all on his own. Mom would blame me if anything happened to him. Oh God I'd be in so much trouble. I gripped my hair tightly while thinking about all the possibilities. Then I realized how smart and independent Kevin was. I started to become not as worried. I went upstairs and decided to read a little bit to pass the time. My reading time was interrupted a few minutes later by the sound of the kitchen door shutting closed. A smile of relief washed over my face. I set down my book and scurried down the stairs, "Hey Kevin, what did-" My sentence trailed off at the sight of two strangers standing in my kitchen. The smaller one looked familiar. Where did I see him from? There was a taller one standing beside him. "Hello." The short one smiled to reveal a single golden tooth. That was when the taller one turned to look at me. His hair looked really soft. Oh but his eyes were such a pretty shade of blue. "How does my hair look?" I heard the tall one whisper to the short one, soon followed by him elbowing him in his lower waist, "Shut up, Marv!" He snarled at him. Marv. That was his name. But what was the name of the shorter one? My anxiety was becoming progressively worse the more they stared at me. But why though? My legs started to tremble while my brown eyes darted between the both of them. The taller one approached me; my immediate response was to take a step back. "Please don't hurt me." I mumbled, "Oh, we aren't going to hurt you," The short one responded, "just don't want you getting any." He continued.

That's when I realized what they planned on doing. I ran out the kitchen and darted for the stairs. My escape was slow, and someone grabbed my leg and pulled me downwards onto the red carpet below. Slowly but surely; my eyes opened to meet Marv. "I'll be back in a second, make sure she doesn't get away." The other one said before disappearing out the kitchen door. My eyes darted back to Marv to see that his face had gotten closer to mine. His eyes looked more beautiful up close. No wait, what was I thinking? He's bad. He broke into our house. He's gonna steal our valuables. But oh he looked too sweet and innocent. "Those glasses really bring out your eyes." Marv suddenly spoke up, "Oh, uhm, I, t-thanks." I muttered out as I glanced beside me. Yet I could still feel his eyes watching me intently. The painful feeling of Marv gripping tightly onto my exposed wrists soon dissipated. Then the cold sensation of his hand was felt on my hot face. I quickly turned my head towards him, my eyes intently watching his every move. Why was he grabbing my face? Why is he doing this? I mean, I didn't really mind because he was so attractive. No, stop Modesta! What the hell are you thinking? This is a random stranger that has just broken into your house and wants to steal all your possessions. You couldn't possibly think he was attractive. But I still felt that I could get lost in those beautiful blue eyes of his. I snapped out my thoughts when I felt his hand trailing down to my neck, then to my lower chest. Footsteps echoed from the kitchen until I heard the voice of the shorter one. "Marv! What the hell are you doing? Get off of her!" He then approached him and started to relentlessly hit him in the back with a crowbar. Marv crawled off of me while I quickly stood up and backed up against the wall. "I'm so sorry about him," The short one turned towards me, "He isn't right up there." He proceeded to point towards his forehead. "I am not, Harry!" Marv sounded offended by his friend's remark. Okay. That was the other one's name. Harry. Both of them are Harry and Marv.

Knocking was heard at the front door. "Cops!" Marv whispered before he ran out the back door, soon followed by Harry. I stood there motionless for a few seconds until the knocking became louder. I turned around and opened the door to see Kevin instead of the cops. "Hey, you alright?" Kevin asked as he carried some groceries inside, "Yeah-" I closed the front door behind him.

In the middle of my evening nap, I was woken up by a very scared and concerned looking Kevin. I sat up and blindly reached for my glasses. "What's going on?" I threw off my covers just as Kevin grabbed my hand and led me downstairs into the kitchen. "I think there's someone at the backdoor." He whispered to me. So sure enough there was a tall shadow of someone at the backdoor. Except this shadow looked oddly familiar. It couldn't be who I think it is, could it? Whoever it was seemed to accidentally drop their shoe inside the dog door. A familiar looking gloved hand reached for the shoe, mumbling the word, "Shit," In the process. "I can deal with this." I said to Kevin, "No, you might get hurt." He protested, "I'm the older sister. I got this." I grabbed his shoulders and instructed him upstairs. He was about to say something else, but decided to go hide somewhere upstairs anyway. "Damnit Marv, what's taking you so long?" I heard Harry's muffled voice from outside. Oh God, it is them. They're back. But why? But something inside me was glad that Marv was back. "We know you're in there." Harry taunted. I backed up in fear while my eyes stayed locked on the backdoor. I stumbled towards the front door, grabbing my shoes in the process before stepping outside into the freezing snow. My eyes scanned towards the house key sitting on the table. Then I grabbed it and stuck it underneath the doormat before closing and locking the front door. My entire body shivered badly from the intense cold. I should've worn a jacket. But I won't be out here too long, right? Just then my foot tripped on a stray crack in the driveway. "There she is." Harry said before the both of them appeared in front of me. I gulped hard and stared in between the both of them. Marv seemed to look more happy than the seriously annoyed looking Harry beside him. "Hi Modesta!" Marv held up his hand towards me, but I was too focused on trying to figure out why the hell they came back. "Why are you here?" I crossed my arms. A disappointed look washed over Marv's face. "I wanted to come and apologize for what Marv did to you." Harry nudged Marv in his side, "Oh uhm, yeah, uh, sorry-" Marv scratched the back of his neck nervously. "It's fine." I breathed out.

Harry approached me, causing me to back up. He wasn't going to hurt me, wasn't he? "Don't come any closer." I stammered out, "We don't have any weapons." Harry turned around to show me as Marv did the same. "Now, how old are you? I wanna make sure Marv isn't going to get in serious trouble." Harry responded, "I'm uh, 19." I muttered out. My body slowly started to feel numb from the cold. Marv must've noticed how much I was shaking. His response was to hold open his oversized brown jacket. "What?" I looked up at him, "You're cold, aren't you?" His smile looked so adorable and I just couldn't resist it anymore. I took a step closer to him and stepped into the warmth of his jacket. He slowly wrapped his arms around me. "Marv, are you kidding me?" Harry asked, "What? She was cold." Marv complained. Even though what was happening right now was making my anxiety worse, it still just felt so right. His body heat was radiating onto my body, as well as the warm comfort of his jacket. "Oh my God..." Harry groaned in response. "Come on Marv, we have to go before someone sees us." Harry said, "Already?" Marv sighed. My face was buried into his chest. I couldn't quite remember the last time someone has ever hugged me. And I really didn't wanna leave the amazing feeling of being embraced. But everyone knows that it can't last forever. "Can I walk her to the front door real quick?" Marv suddenly asked, "Fine, but make it quick. I gotta start the van." Harry walked off. I stood beside Marv while he still had his coat wrapped protectively around me. I almost felt bad for falling for a robber, but it was so hard to control my feelings. "Well, uh-" I cleared my throat, "Are you gonna come by again?" I looked up at Marv, "Of course." He smiled down at me. The sight of his smile made me almost faint. There were so many reasons why I fell for him to the point where I can't even name them. "Well, bye Marv." I giggled lightly, "Bye Modesta." He smiled widely. I left his warm embrace to step inside the house. Then watched as Marv walked around the house towards their van that was parked in the neighbor's driveway.

I stepped upstairs to go find out where Kevin had hid. "Kevin?" I called out, "Leave me alone." I heard his voice from our parent's room. I saw him hidden underneath the red velvet covers. "Kevin, it's me. They're gone." I tried lifting up the covers, but he just yanked them down. "You said you were going to handle it. But then I saw you hugging one of them." He peeked his head out. Oh no, he saw me? What was I going to tell him? I can't say that I knew them from somewhere because Kevin knows I don't go out much and don't have many friends. "Well, I-" I muttered out, "Why did you hug them, Modesta?" He sat up, "It's just that-" I looked away from embarrassment. "I don't wanna talk to you anymore." He hid back underneath the covers. I sighed and stood up, walking back upstairs to the 3rd floor to attempt to go back to sleep.

The next night went by normal. But that was until I decided to sneak into a kitchen to grab a cold glass of water. The house was quiet since Kevin had gone to bed quite a while ago. I never liked walking by myself in the dark. The dark has always scared me. The stairs creaked underneath my feet until I walked through the doorway leading into the kitchen. I stopped dead in my tracks when I heard the sound of the front door opening and closing. After some seconds of building up courage, I turned around to see the front door locked and secure, not a shadow or person in sight. I shrugged it off and poured some water into a glass cup before heading back upstairs. But the feeling of being watched grew very intensely. Usually I wouldn't feel that feeling unless I was laying in bed. Never when I was walking around the house. Once I climbed into bed after setting down my drink, my bedroom door creaked open. Since it was too dark inside my room to tell who it was, there was just a shadow figure slowly approaching my bed. Worried that this might be another one of my episodes of sleep paralysis, I quickly covered up my entire body and tightly closed my eyes. The sound of the floorboards creaking became nearer and nearer until I heard the sound of someone breathing. My heartbeat quickened and my body started to shake rapidly. Suddenly someone pounced on top of me, causing me to scream in fear until I heard the familiar voice. "Hey, hey, it's me Marv." I lowered my blanket to see that it actually was him, "I hate you." I said just as he rolled over into the empty spot beside me. "You don't really mean that." Marv responded, "You scared me to death." I crossed my arms and turned around in the other direction, "I didn't mean to." He laughed before pulling my arm and forcing me to look at him. "How did you even get in my house? Kevin could've seen you." I stared him dead in the eyes, "Cause you forgot this. Usually breaking into someone's house isn't this easy." He held up the house key that I had accidentally forgotten underneath the floor mat on the porch. "Ughhh..." I held my forehead in frustration. He suddenly wrapped an arm around my waist and pulled me towards him. "Can I ask you something?" He whispered lightly, "W-What?" I shivered from the closeness, "Can I kiss you?" He smiled at the embarrassed look on my face. But did I really want to? He was really attractive I have to admit, but he was also someone who was trying to break into our house. "You don't like me like that, do you?" Marv suddenly asked, "No, I do-" I stared at his hand that was caressing my waist. "Then can I kiss you?" He repeated, "Yeah." I weakly smiled. Marv leaned in and pressed his lips to mine. A tingling feeling started building up in my stomach the second his lips touched mine. He leaned back to look at me, "I love you." His hand slowly caressed my hair, "I love you too." I leaned into his touch. Soon enough I had fallen asleep in his arms. The feeling of being guilty from falling for Marv had all gone away the second he kissed me. It was like my life had completely changed at that exact amount. The kiss was exactly as I fantasized it to be.
