Summary: Me and Kevin are left home alone by accident
Words: 4.1k words
I was running around the busy house, trying to figure out where I left my walkman. There was no way in hell I was going to go to Paris without my prized walkman, I'd go insane. "Fuller." I stood in front of the dining room table, "What?" He sipped some Pepsi, "Have you seen my walkman?" I asked, "No." He simply answered. I groaned in annoyance and stormed back upstairs to try to turn my room upside down again. But I stopped at the foot of the stairs when I heard someone call out to me. "Hey girlie." A male voice said, and I turned around to be met with a police officer. "What?" I impatiently tapped my foot, "Are your parents home?" He asked me, "Yes, they're around here somewhere." I said before going upstairs to the 3rd floor. Except when I finally reached the stop of the stairs, I was met with one of my brothers, Buzz, who was holding my walkman that I was looking all over for. "I don't have time for this." I crossed my arms, "You want it back, yeah?" He teased me, "For christ's sake Buzz, I'm literally older than you." I facepalmed. "Then do something." He laughed in my face before brushing past me once he saw our uncle carrying pizza boxes. "Oh my God." I groaned before following Buzz into the kitchen. "This isn't funny." I stood beside Buzz and watched as he practically inhaled the entire box of cheese pizza. "You're eating me and Kevin's pizza too? Oh wow." I complained. Soon Kevin appeared into the kitchen, seeming to look around at the dining room table until he was standing beside me. "Modesta, where's our pizza?" He asked me, "This idiot just ate it all." I pointed at Buzz who had a smug grin on his face. Suddenly Kevin pushed past me and knocked Buzz onto the kitchen counter, spilling milk all over the passports. I took the time to snatch my walkman from Buzz, which was now soaked in milk. "Oh my fucking God!" I accidentally slipped up. Everyone in the room became quiet after my outburst. "To your room, now!" Mom pointed upstairs, "Defending Buzz like always." I grabbed a napkin on my way out and used it to attempt to dry off my walkman. "I hate this family, I wish they'd just disappear." I slammed my door behind me and walked up the stairs to the attic and dropped onto my bed.
A couple minutes later I heard Kevin arguing with Mom. I heard something along the lines of; "I wish my whole family would disappear." Before he stormed upstairs and laid beside me on my bed. "I swear, you're the only person who isn't mean to me." Kevin crossed his arms as he glanced at me, "That's because our family is a bunch of jerks." I answered as I tried forcing a smile onto my face. "Yeah." He sighed in annoyance.
The next morning when I woke up, it sounded unusually quiet inside the house. I sat up and looked at Kevin sleeping next to me. I threw off the covers which immediately woke up Kevin. "What happened?" He rubbed the sleep out of his eyes, "I don't know, but I don't like how quiet it sounds." I walked towards the attic door as Kevin slowly followed behind me. I peeked outside my room and noticed all the bedroom doors were still closed. "Where did they go?" I asked as I fully stepped out of the attic. "I don't know." He walked past me towards the bathroom. I walked downstairs and into the kitchen where it was still empty. "What the hell?" I turned on the small TV and just sat at the kitchen counter until Kevin emerged from downstairs. "Did you find anybody?" He sat down next to me, "Nope." I sighed and leaned against my hand. Kevin stood up and walked around the house, calling for Mom or Dad or basically any of our siblings. I was starting to believe that they had left to go to Paris without us. "I made my family disappear." Kevin said just as he sat down beside. I remembered when everyone disrespected me for no reason, and how everyone was huge jerks to not only me, but Kevin as well. "I made my whole family disappear." He repeated while a smile slowly appeared on his face. I smiled and watched as he leaped out of his chair and started running around the house going crazy; eating while jumping on our parents bed, running around the house screaming, and going through Buzz's stuff. Lastly he was determined to use a Buzz's bebe gun to shoot his figurines down the laundry chute, which I didn't really think was a good idea. "Kevin, I don't think we should be doing this." I stood beside him, "And? Buzz isn't here to stop us." He aimed for each figurine and shot every single one, including the metal spatula that was holding up the laundry chute door. "Yes!" He cheered while I just laughed lightly at his positive attitude. Later that day Kevin was making a huge mess inside the kitchen making the most fattening-food I have ever seen while I just went for a plain bowl of chocolate ice cream. Then he wanted to watch that one movie that our uncle said he couldn't watch. Except once the guy in the movie started shooting the other guy, his immediate response was to cover his eyes.
"Kevin, now this definitely isn't a good idea." I followed him as he opened the front door, leaving his sled at the top of the stairs. "Come on, it'll be fun." He walked back up the stairs and adjusted his beanie. "Not if you get hurt, because Mom is gonna kick my ass." I responded while he sat down on the sled. "I won't." Kevin said before sliding down the stairs and into the snow outside. I rushed over to the entrance of the front door to make sure he didn't get hurt. Kevin gave me a thumbs up before dragging the sled back inside, while I laughed in relief knowing I wasn't going to be responsible for any injuries. It was dark out and me and Kevin were sitting in the living room watching the Grinch, the table completely covered in all kinds of junk food. Well, I was the only one watching since Kevin had fallen asleep a couple minutes ago. My attention quickly left when I heard the sound of a car outside, then a car door slamming closed, which also woke up Kevin too. I sat up and saw two shadows walk past the living room curtains. "Turn all the lights on." He whispered to me. I nodded and leaped off the couch and started going around the entire house turning on all the lights, including the basement light as well. A couple minutes later we were hiding underneath our parents bed. "You know what Modesta." Kevin turned towards me, "Yeah?" I asked, "Only a wimp would be hiding." He got out of bed while I did the same. Kevin then walked outside while I awkwardly stood in the entrance of the front door. "I'm not afraid anymore!" He shouted out as he walked to the end of our yard, "Do you hear me? I'm not afraid anymore!" Once he said that, I noticed our neighbor Marley standing in front of him. Kevin stopped and slowly looked up at him in fear, then screamed before brushing past me and running back inside, slamming the front door closed. I sighed and peeked out the window at Marley, feeling a little bad for him. I walked back upstairs where I found Kevin hiding underneath the covers in my parents room. "Kevin-" I approached him, "It's okay." I sighed and sat down at the edge of the bed. "But Buzz told me he killed someone!" He peeked out from underneath the blanket, "Those are just rumors, not everything Buzz says is true." I answered. But he didn't seem to believe me, because he still had the scared look on his face he had before. Soon I heard knocking at the front door, causing Kevin to become even more scared than before. "No Modesta, don't answer it! It could be those guys from earlier." He grabbed my arm just as I was about to stand up, "You're right." I crawled into bed next to Kevin while the knocking continued for a couple more seconds before I heard the sound of a car driving away.
The next morning I was woken up by the sound of something crashing down. I immediately threw off my covers and darted over to Buzz's room where I heard the crashing coming from. Except I saw Kevin covered in what used to be Buzz's shelves. I kneeled down and lifted up the broken wooden boards, helping him to his feet. "I got Buzz's entire life savings." He showed me a handful of cash, "That's great, but why do you need money?" I walked with him as he left Buzz's destroyed room."I'm gonna buy a toothbrush from the store, but I can't find mine." He answered while putting on a coat, "I'll grab some clothes as well." I went back to my room and put on my heaviest leather trench coat, a sweater, gloves, boots, and a hat before meeting Kevin out by the back door. I squinted my eyes at the sight of the blue van parked in the driveway of our neighbors house, who were supposed to be in Florida for Christmas.
Me and Kevin were walking home after he had accidentally stolen a toothbrush because he got spooked by our old neighbor. I sighed as we walked past a driveway, looking down at the disappointed looking Kevin. "Watch out!" Someone screamed before I heard tires screeching, followed by Kevin screaming. Both of us walked past while the driver rolled down his window. "Watch where you're going!" He yelled at both of us, but his voice somehow sounded familiar. Suddenly I noticed someone in the passenger seat, someone with curly hair and facial hair. Who I actually found quite attractive if I'm being completely honest. "Santy don't visit the funeral homes, little buddy." The handsome stranger said to the both of us, but I was more focused on his handsome face and the way his blue eyes gleamed brightly. "Okay then, Merry Christmas." The driver said before smiling at us, giving Kevin quite the spook before we both started walking down the street. But I started getting the feeling of being watched, followed by the sound of a car engine. Both me and Kevin turned around and saw the van from a moment ago parked a few feet away from us, and it almost looked as if they were trying their hardest to look occupied. I turned around and started walking again. Yet I could still sense that they were following us, so I whispered to Kevin about running somewhere besides our house so they don't find out where we live. He agreed and we started running until we hid in the church's Christmas decorations, watching as the confused strangers looked around before driving off. I looked towards Kevin, he just nodded and motioned towards the direction of our house. He decided that he wanted to pull a prank on the guys who were trying to break into our house. I helped him set up some things to make it look like there were people home so those guys wouldn't try breaking into our house again. Once we saw those guys driving away after setting up that prank, I knew we were going to be able to prevent these guys from robbing our house. It almost made me wonder how Kevin learned how to do all of this. Sometime later we ordered some cheese pizza since Buzz ate all of ours the other day. Except when the pizza guy arrived at our back door with the pizza, Kevin had the most perfect way to pay for it. A knock sounded at the back door while Kevin started to play Angels with Filthy Souls to trick the pizza guy into thinking that there was someone with a gun. I laughed quietly with Kevin at the guy's reaction to the movie. Then Kevin dropped money out of the dog door, then gunshots were heard from the movie which caused the pizza guy to run off scared and drive off. "A delicious cheese pizza just for us." Kevin opened the back door as he brought the pizza inside, "Yep." I high fived him right after I closed and locked the back door.
I woke up to someone shaking me, "Huh?" I sat up and saw Kevin wearing his winter clothes. "I was gonna grab a few things from the store, maybe you could watch the house and make sure those guys don't show up." He said as I sat up, "Yeah, sure, be careful." I rubbed the sleep out of my eyes. He left my room and went outside while I went downstairs to find some breakfast. I walked past the front facing window and saw the same van from earlier parked in the driveway of the house next mine. "Those creeps are really watching us..." I closed the curtains and went back into the kitchen. Kevin returned about an hour later without any incidents with those... robbers. "Can you do laundry? I'm gonna wash dishes." He said to me as he handed me the laundry detergent. "Alright." I went downstairs into the basement and grabbed some clothes from the nearby basket. Right when I slammed closed the washing machine, I heard footsteps running down to the basement. "Modesta! Modesta!" Kevin tugged on my pant leg, "What is it?" I turned on the washing machine, "One of them is at the back door." He answered. I immediately followed him upstairs to the kitchen just as someone stuck their foot through the dog door. Their shoe fell off, "Shit." Someone whispered before a hand reached into the dog door and grabbed the shoe. Kevin grabbed a VHS tape and put it on the TV, then grabbed the remote and let the movie play. Then I watched him slowly move the chair to grab one of the pots, afterwards placing the pot directly in front of the back door. Kevin grabbed firecrackers and put them inside the pot and pulled me backwards just as the firecrackers went off. I laughed over the loud sound of the firecrackers going off while Kevin did the same. I never knew being home alone would be this fun, especially knowing that my youngest brother was this cool. Later that day Kevin wanted to cut down a tree in the backyard to use as a Christmas tree so our house could look more 'festive' for the holidays. I stayed inside because I wasn't entirely in the mood to get my winter clothes on just to chop down some tree. He came back shortly after I had gotten out the Christmas ornaments. While hanging up the ornaments, I noticed Kevin stopping in his tracks while completely freezing. That's when I saw the gleam of someone standing at the window behind us on the ornament I was holding. "Dad!" Kevin suddenly called out, probably trying to make them think we weren't home alone. I don't think they believed him though, because both me and Kevin heard them discussing their entire plan just outside. Kevin looked towards me with a scared expression on his face while I did the same.
We walked to a small house somewhere in town where kids were supposed to meet Santa. I tried convincing him not to go because of those guys, and it was too cold outside to be outside so late. He asked the lady dressed as the elf where Santa was, who was just over by his car trying to get it to start. I stood aside while Kevin talked to the person dressed as Santa. But I was too busy zoning out thinking about one of those guys I saw the other day to even hear what conversation Kevin was having. I felt bad for thinking that that guy was attractive, because he was a bad guy trying to break into our house and most likely hurt us if we even tried to protect our house. "Modesta, hey-" Kevin yanked on my sleeve, "Yeah?" I looked down at him as we started walking again. "Is everything okay?" He asked me, "I'm just worried about our house." I looked down at him while I spoke. His response was to just slowly nod his head. Soon we came to the church where we watched people sing Christmas carols. I could tell that Kevin was starting to regret his decision about wanting his family to disappear. Old man Marley approached the bench we were sitting on, asking to sit next to us. Kevin actually allowed him to without running away screaming. After we talked with him a bit, Kevin seemed determined to protect our house from those robbers, so the both of us ran home as quickly as possible. I hung out in the kitchen while Kevin started to set up traps around the house. A couple minutes later we were sitting at the dining room table about to eat, but were interrupted by the grandfather clock striking the exact time the robbers planned to break into our house. He grabbed Buzz's bebe gun while we waited by the back door. "Let us in, little buddy." I heard knocking at the back door. "We know you guys are in there, and that you're all alone." He continued. "It's Santa Clause, and his elf." Another voice joked. I watched carefully as Kevin laid in front of the dog door, sticking the barrel of the bebe gun out of the door. They both continued to try and persuade us while being completely unaware about what was going to happen. Suddenly he pulled the trigger and I heard one of them groaning in pain. "What happened!?" The other voice kept asking him. Seconds later one of them stuck their head through the dog door, and it was the same one I saw sitting in the van the other day, the one who I thought looked attractive. He smiled at Kevin, "Hello." He pulled the trigger, shooting him in the nose. Instinctively, he screamed and backed his head out of the dog door. "Yes!" Kevin leaped up and cheered. "Can you check the basement? I wanna see which one goes through my traps." Kevin asked me. I nodded and made my way to the basement, silently hoping it was the attractive one. Once I turned on the basement light, I saw someone peeking through the curtains on the basement door, immediately ducking down once the light turned on. The wooden stairs creaked underneath my weight as I walked further down the stairs. I heard the sound of cracking wood, most likely one of them trying to pry the door open with something. When my bare foot reached the next step, I felt a hot, sticky, burning sensation in my foot. The basement door opened while I was struggling to get my foot unstuck. Once they came into view, I knew it was the attractive one. He yanked on the 'light switch' beside the light bulb, but instead was hit in the face with a hot flat iron. After gaining his balance, he went towards the stairs and saw me standing there. "Uhm-" I looked up at him nervously, "Why are you just standing there?" He asked me. "Because there's hot tar on these stairs." I answered just as I finally yanked my foot free. "You aren't like your brother, are you?" He walked a little closer, "No." I responded while cautiously making my way down the old wooden steps. "Do you mind if I help you?" He asked, "You'll probably get stuck trying to." I laughed nervously. But for some odd reason, I could actually feel my face heating up like I was flustered or embarrassed by his presence. "It's worth a try, why don't you try giving me your hand?" He tried reaching his gloved hand towards me. Just before I reached for his hand, I stepped on what felt like a nail. It pierced through my skin as I screamed in pain and collapsed down the stairs, landing straight into his arms.
He looked down at me, causing me to immediately notice the mark that the flat iron made. "What happened?" He noticed the blood trickling down my foot and making a small puddle on the floor below. "I stepped on a nail." I groaned in pain, "We shouldn't go up the stairs then." He carried me outside and walked around the house till he found an open window. "Hey, I never caught your name by the way." I looked up at him, "It's Marv, you?" He asked, "Modesta." I answered as he climbed through the window. I heard crunching sounds underneath his feet, immediately noticing the now broken ornaments on the floor. "I'm not sure how I'm gonna bandage up your foot, I can't really find anything." Marv said as he walked through the house and towards the main entrance. "I can fix it myself, don't worry." I answered as he appeared in front of his other friend. "Marv?" He said as he wiped feathers off of himself, "Harry?" He asked. "Why the hell are you carrying her?" Harry asked, "Why the hell are you dressed like a chicken?" Marv asked, causing me to chuckle lightly. "You guys done, or are you thirsty for more?" I heard Kevin's voice upstairs. Marv quickly set me down before running towards the stairs with Harry, immediately tripping over
