Summary: Spending my birthday with Marv

Words: 2.5k words

My 20th birthday was approaching. Mom was prepared to do something really big for my birthday. Except I wanted to spend it with my boyfriend Marv instead of with my family. I wanted to go to the roller skating rink that just opened up nearby. With some money that Dad gave me for my birthday. And I already knew that it was more than enough to be able to afford all three of us. I had to sneak outside sometime that same morning, but without Mom seeing me. Sometimes I didn't like it whenever it was my birthday because Mom would do something really big every single year. And I never even liked being the center of attention. It was March 1st; the day of my birthday. The air outside still had that chilly wintery feel to it. Their van was parked across the street from my house. But I noticed the passenger door being opened once I came into view. Marv appeared in my sight as he ran towards me. I smiled and opened my arms for him to hug me tightly. "Happy birthday, my love." He said while burying his face in the crook of my neck, "Thanks sweetheart." I giggled into his chest, "Let's go get breakfast. I don't think the roller skating rink is open yet." He stopped hugging me to look into my eyes, "Sure." I shrugged as I followed him over to the passenger side door. "You can sit there, I'll just sit on the floor." Marv offered the passenger seat, "No, you go ahead." I said, "But it's your birthday. You get to sit there." Marv crossed his arms while looking down at me. "For Christ's sake, just get in the damn car." Harry sighed in annoyance. I giggled and climbed into the passenger seat right after Marv; then sitting on his lap instead.

We arrived at the local diner near my house. They weren't too crowded for a Wednesday morning. I sat at the booths near the window. Marv started to talk to Harry about what he planned on doing once we got to the roller skating rink. It made me realize how much I loved him. He was just too adorable. It also made me wonder if he's ever been to a roller skating rink before. Him falling would make it funnier though. I wouldn't mind having to help him gain his balance. Marv must've noticed the large smile that was spread out across my face. "What?" He smiled down at me, "Nothing." I simply answered before glancing out the large window beside me, "Seems to me like you were almost laughing." I felt him lay his arm across my shoulders, "I wasn't." I glanced at him, "You're still smiling." He pointed out, "I'm not-" I burst into a fit of laughter. "I knew it." Marv smiled as he watched me laugh my ass off. Harry looked very annoyed due to our childish behavior. But I didn't care. He can pout all he wants, he isn't going to ruin my big day. "I gotta say, your one beautiful birthday girl." Marv ruffled up my hair as he spoke, "Shut up." I swatted his hand away while face started to turn bright red. "I hate being the third wheel." I heard Harry mumble under his breath. The waitress appeared by our table about to take our order when Marv did the most embarrassing thing humanly possible. "Oh, today is my girlfriend's birthday." He nudged me in the waist, "Oh, really?" She leaned over to look at me, where I was cowering underneath the table, "Yup, she's turning 20." Marv proudly responded. "Well, we always do something special for someone's birthday." The waitress replied. Then she walked off after taking Harry and Marv's order. "Why the hell would you do that?" I sat up and looked at Marv, "Because I want everyone to know that it's your birthday." He smiled, "And the best possible way you could think of was embarrassing me?" I crossed my arms, "Yep!" He leaned over to kiss my cheek. It was hard to stay mad at him. He was only doing this because he loved me. Besides, he's got the cutest face to ever exist. How could I stay mad at that?

The waitress soon returned with a cake with at least four other waitresses by her side. There were candles on the cake. I watched in complete horror as they all started to sing. The small numbers of people inside the diner started to stare. I was at least glad that there weren't too many people here. But it was still embarrassing. Marv knows that I don't like being the center of attention. After breakfast we went straight to the roller skating rink. I was super excited because it's been a very long time since I've been to a roller skating rink. Plus it would be more fun because Marv is gonna be with me. It seemed a little too crowded for a late Wednesday morning.

I walked inside while holding tightly onto Marv's hand. I was afraid I'd lose him in this large crowd of people. Especially someone like Marv who just loves to wander off without my permission. First we obviously had to get roller skates. I got some purple ones since purple is obviously my favorite color. Then we just sat down at one of the booths that were surrounding the actual skating rink. "This was a good idea." Marv said from beside me, "I told you roller skating was fun." I grabbed his hand and glanced at him with a large smile. Harry seemed annoyed. Something I loved about this roller skating rink is that they also had an arcade as well. And because they have an arcade. I knew they had skee ball, and I was the best at that game. Marv was watching people pass by on roller skates very intensely. He almost looked as if he was too nervous or scared to even go on the rink. "Hun?" I pulled on his hand, "Yeah?" He looked down at me, "What's wrong? Are you scared to go on the rink?" I smiled, "What? No! Of course not!" Marv proceeded to laugh very sarcastically. "Oh wow, you're scared of heights AND roller skating?" Harry mumbled under his breath, "I am NOT!" Marv suddenly slammed his hands on the booth, "Baby, no need to be overdramatic." I lightly grabbed his shoulder while giggling quietly to myself. "Okay, fine." He leaned his back against the cushioned booth seat. "You know what? Let's go skating." I forced him to put on his roller skates, "Already? Why not a few more minutes?" Marv started to complain, "Come on!" I said while putting on my roller skates. The second Marv stood up after putting on his skates, almost tumbled over back into the booth seats. "We haven't even gone on the rink and you're already falling." I giggled while holding onto his hand to prevent him from falling again. "I've never done this, what do you expect?" He smiled down at me as we both made our way to the skating rink. The rink was crowded with young teenagers and couples. That's when I realized what exactly I got myself into. "Now this is for all the couples out here. Here's a requested song." A male voice spoke on the intercom. Marv looked towards me with a worried expression. "Just hold onto me." I grabbed both of his hands and pulled his body against mine, "Alright-" He breathed out. How Deep Is Your Love by Bee Gees started to play. The song that I specifically remember was playing when me and Marv had our first kiss. Marv had the same shocked expression as I had. "It can't be a coincidence." Marv smiled down at me, "I love you." I leaned my head against his chest, "I love you too, birthday girl." He chuckled lightly as I felt the vibration from his laughter. Memories and feelings from our first kiss started to fill my mind. Oh the wonderful feeling. A feeling that I would grow very fond of. This same song played on my old stereo in my bedroom just nearly 3 months ago.

When the couple's dance was over; that was when the real funny moments started to happen. I let go of Marv for a split second to grab my drink from off of our booth that was right against the railing surrounding the rink. "Babe, no!" I heard Marv shout followed by the sound of someone falling, "Oh my God-" I said in between laughter. Harry was laughing his ass off at him. "I told you to not let go of me!" Marv tried standing up multiple times, but failed. "I was thirsty, sweetheart." I giggled as I watched Marv struggle. I set down my drink and kneeled down to grab his hand and lift him up. During the process I accidentally slipped and fell right after helping Marv up. Now it was his turn to laugh at me. But instead of being mad, I was laughing my ass off. I easily got to my feet unlike Marv who struggled for several minutes. "Wanna hit the arcade?" I leaned against the railing, "You don't have to ask me twice." He smiled as he grabbed my hand and we left the rink. Then set our skates aside, changing back into our shoes and heading to the arcade along with Harry.

"Whoa." Marv's eyes sparkled brightly at all the arcade machines and flashing lights, "I knew you'd like it." I looked up at him and admired his gorgeous features, "I love it!" He pulled me along with him until we reached a claw machine. "Baby, I wouldn't trust those." I peeked through the glass window, "Watch me." He started messing around with the claw machine for about a couple seconds. And he must've noticed the way I was eyeing that black cat plushie sitting in the far back. It was a cat plushie made to look like it was dressed for Saint Patrick's Day. It was almost as adorable as Marv, but not quite. Sure enough, he actually managed to get it. "I told you I'd get it." He smiled before stuffing the plushie in my face, "God, I love you so much." I smiled as I gave him a really big hug, "I love you too." He lightly kissed the hair covering my forehead. Afterwards we walked around the arcade to see what else looked interesting. We found Harry over at a Pac-Man arcade machine. Surprising. "Damnit!" Harry shouted as he had just lost, "Let me try." Marv spoke up, "Like you're gonna do any better than me." Harry rolled his before stepping aside. I stood by and watched closely. I hugged the cat plushie tightly against my chest. Imagining that it was my black cat back at home. Suddenly Marv had actually gotten a better high score than Harry. "What, you, I-" Harry had no words, "I told you I could do it." Marv laughed in his face. I giggled insanely at the two grown men arguing. "Where do you wanna next, darling?" Marv slipped his hand into mine, "I was thinking skee ball." I shrugged, "Sounds good, I'll let Harry pout over there." He laughed while I joined him. I handed Marv my cat plushie before rolling up my sleeves, then grabbing one of the small balls. Next, I angled myself and threw the ball; landing straight into the 100 hole on my first try. "That was amazing, love!" Marv cheered, "Thanks-" I blushed from the overreaction Marv had. The entire time Marv stood behind me and watched me play skee ball. Although I knew there was someone watching me; I won every time. So that meant I was probably gonna earn a lot of tickets from this. I backed up and took my plushie from Marv as we all left the arcade and went to the food court.

But soon today would have to come to an end. Sadly. Marv drove me home around nearly 5 in the evening. I knew my parents would be questioning me about everything the second I step through that front door. But before I left their van, I remembered to give Marv a kiss. "Thank you for making my birthday so amazing." I stood outside the passenger door with Marv, "Of course, you're the love of my life. I have to make sure it's amazing." He smiled down at me, "God, I'm not even sure there are words in this world that can describe how much I love you." I leaned up and kissed him. "You're welcome, hun. It's your birthday, so I have to treat you amazingly. Not like I do that everyday anyway." Marv ran his fingers through my hair, "You better be ready for your birthday then." I giggled as I placed a small kiss on the tip of his nose. Then he walked me to my front door without anyone noticing. "I'm glad today was amazing for you." Marv held both of my hands in his, "Today is always amazing when you're with me." I smiled at his words, "Awwww." He laughed lightly before giving me a small hug. "Anyway, I'll see you later. I love you, hun." I looked up at him, "I love you too, sweetheart." He gave me one last kiss before I went back inside. My parents are probably disappointed that I went missing for half of my birthday. They probably thought that I ran away with some friends. I'll just have to say that. It would be better than them lecturing me about having a boyfriend on my birthday. "Where have you been?" Mom stopped me, "I went to the new roller skating rink with some friends." I answered, "Tell me next time. Now come into the kitchen. We have your birthday cake." She smiled in response. I followed her into the kitchen where my whole family was waiting. Mom must've not let them eat any cake until I got home. Because everyone seemed so happy once I walked through the doorway of the kitchen. "About damn time." Buzz complained, "I was about to die of starvation." Another one of my brothers also complained. I laughed at their remarks before sitting down at the dining room table. After Mom forced everyone to sing me happy birthday; I grabbed a slice of cake and went back upstairs. I smiled at the cat plushie Marv got for me at the arcade. What made it even more precious to me was that it reminded me of Marv. I hugged it tightly while reading the birthday card that uncle Frank sent me. I'm pretty sure my aunt must've forced him to send me birthday money. I'll just save that money for this weekend. Then I went to sleep because today was so exhausting.
