read just now
Isagi hadn't seen the girl at school nor were her brothers there either. It seemed to him that Reo and Nagi knew something about it but it wasn't his place to ask. He wasn't that close to her anyways. So when he saw her the next day at her locker, on Wednesday, he went up to greet her.
"Hey Seiren! Are you ready for today?"
Her gaze traveled over to him. The cheeky smile on his face, how the corners of his eyes crinkled up, the light blush on his cheeks. "Mm. Hi Yoichi." she said. "I..printed some pictures to use. If that's okay." Seiren then opened her bag to show him. "I was thinking that too! I was going to ask you when we get to my house since I have a printer there. I was kinda worried you wouldn't like the idea. I like your drawings." Isagi looked away shyly.
"Really? Kinda did them on a whim."
"What?! They're really good! You have to teach me!"
His optimism almost made her gag. "Why are you so cheerful.." she decides to ask him. "I actually don't know. Kinda just who I am." Isagi laughs. "Let's get to class?" he suggests. Seiren stared at him, furrowing her eyebrows. Was he paid by Sae or something..? She questioned but goes along with him anyways.
As they walked down the hall, she could feel stares on her, some laughing at Isagi for walking with Seiren. She glances at him but he doesn't seem fazed by it. "My Mom ask if you liked her food." Isagi turns his head over to her, finally noticing their small height difference. Compared to her brothers, she was short but tall for a girl. She was 5'8, just an inch shorter than Isagi.
"It was..really good. I liked it."
"Good! Cause now every time you come over, her food magically gets like ten times better."
The way he spoke seemed funny to her, the corners of her lips turned upwards just the slightest bit. "She doesn't even put the same effort when we win our games!" Isagi groans, shaking his head as they entered their homeroom. Isagi decides to sit in front of her, wanting to keep talking to Seiren before their teacher comes in. Seiren decides to stay quiet about it and instead hear him talk her ears off.
"Could it be..?"
Bachira lets out a small gasp as he pulls a chair next to Reo and Kunigami. Chigiri just walking in as Nagi lifted his head up from the desk. "Oh look at that. Isagi finally making other friends other than his teammates..!" Chigiri says laughing before seating himself down. The five all watch as Isagi talks, turning over to Seiren to which they could've swore..she almost had a smile on her face.
She felt pairs of eyes on her, immediately going back to her blank expression.
"Let's talk at lunch too. Okay?"
"Sure."
โโโ
"I know you don't really sit in the cafeteria..but you can sit with the team.."
Seiren hummed, following Isagi through the lunch line, getting whatever he got before seating herself next to him. "Seiren!" Reo smiled at the girl, shocked to see her before noticing Isagi beside the girl. "Hi Seiren." Nagi greeted the girl, sitting next to her. "Hi." she said back. Suddenly she felt awkward.
The others came, Bachira, Kunigami, Chigiri, Hiori who she hadn't met yet but recognized from a picture Isagi showed her. "So why are you sitting with us?" Bachira decides to ask, sitting in front of the girl while Kunigami nudged him. "That's rude. Just say hi." the orange haired boy then waved to her, Seiren slowly waving back.
"We're just talking about a project for class." Isagi says, rolling his eyes. "Ah! The..uhm nevermind. I forgot." Bachira chuckled before he began eating his food. She looked around the table, it was the majority of the school's football team but only those in her year. The others had a different lunch than them.
"Can you show me the pictures?" Isagi turned to her, her eyes widening before pulling out a folder from her bag. "It's just these." Seiren let him go through it while she ate. The cafeteria was loud, it was why she never went in to eat. Sitting next to Isagi, watching his smile widened as he went through the pictures she had chosen out, made her wonder.
Has anyone smiled this much because of me?
"I like these. We can also decorate with crayon to give it a more nostalgic feeling if you'd like."
"Yeah..we can do that."
Seiren nodded her head, glancing around as she met a few eyes. The whispers while they laughed at her. I can never live in peace. She sighed, turning to Nagi. "Seishiro.." she whispered, tapping his arm as he was talking to Reo. "Yeah?" he looks over to her, watching her hold out her hand. Nagi then places his phone on her palm. Seiren enjoyed playing games on his phone since he was at a high rank than she was. Meaning he had all the cool packs.
Isagi glanced down at her lap, watching her play. "You're like Nagi." he laughs, leaning closer to her, unaware at how close he actually was. Seiren kept her gaze on the screen, biting her tongue to focus, feeling his arm brush against hers. You lose. She read the words on the screen. "Move Yoichi." Seiren muttered, the male tensing up, scooting himself away from her but far enough to where he could still watch her play.
"Sorry.."
"Give it back?! It's my food?!"
Seiren looked up to see Chigiri and Bachira going back and forth, the two-tone haired boy was laughing at how serious his teammate was. "It's just food!" he claims. "My food?!" the other sighs in defeat. "Yeah..they're always like this. It's worse when we're all together as a team.." Isagi smiles at her. "Rin tells me." she tilted her head, going back to her game.
The more she watched them, the more she realized how they were more than just teammates. They acted like they knew each other for years. "You can always sit with us Seiren." she turned over to Chigiri, a warm smile plastered on his face while he tugged on Bachira's hair, the latter frowning. "I hope they're not too much." he says. "It's just different." Seiren sighs.
"Can I get my phone back.."
"I'm not done yet."
"Kay.."
Nagi looked over her shoulder, giving her pointers to make her win faster. "Seiren!" Kunigami called her, leaning towards the table and turning his head to look at her. "Oh yeah?" She looks up briefly, meeting his gaze. "We're having like a team game Friday. You know, just us going against each other. You should come." he says, biting into his food. Inviting me..?
"Oh..what for?" Seiren stares back at the phone. "It'll be fun. Plus Sae and Rin are out the game so it's just going to be us." he laughs, Hiori joining in. "It's way funner without them actually.." the blue haired boy smiles softly at her. "It is. Isn't it?" The faint memories of her playing with them in junior high came to mind. "They get so serious that they forget..it's a team effort. Otoya literally just starts sleeping on the field.." Hiori chuckles.
"Who's Otoya?" she asks, Reo perking up. "Number 100, third year." he says as she nods her head. "Oh okay. Green stripes.." Seiren said. Hiori then glances over to Reo, unsure how to even process what he heard. Reo just shook his head, telling him not to worry about it.
"You've remembered everyone's class rank?" Isagi asked her. "It's easier." she then gave Nagi back his phone. "That's honestly impressive." he smiles at her. "Is it really?" Seiren turned to stare at him. He hums. "Mm yeah! I don't think I can even name a hundred people. My brain is a bit weird." he laughs. So is mine. She nods her head.
"You haven't ate yet. You should eat. Lunch ends really quickly."
Seiren glanced down at her tray. "You should have some of my food too. You got a little bit and my mom doesn't finish making dinner until like..literally seven o'clock." Isagi laughs, bringing his tray closer to hers before passing his food over to her tray. She didn't even notice how small her portion was. She didn't really care anyways but she hated how nice he was being to her.
"Did Sae talk to you? Is that why you're being nice to me?"
He froze. "Huh?" He mumbled as she rolled her eyes. Isagi had no clue what she was talking about, he only noticed how frail she seemed and only attempted to get her to eat more. "I haven't spoken to Sae? I'm nice to you..because we're friends? Aren't we?" Isagi frowned slightly, his deep blue eyes staring into her teal ones. Was she this alone that she thought a simple act of kindness was because of her brother's doing?
"You think of me as your friend?"
"I mean yeah..even though you're a bit weird.."
"You think I'm weird?"
"Everyone's a bit weird."
Isagi tends to smile at her so much that Seiren thought he must've been broken. That it was just his signature expression to show. Seiren could only stare at him in shock, her mouth slightly opened while her eyes could only waver around his face. "You're so annoying." Seiren punched his arm, surprising him from how much strength she really had. "Ow.." he mumbled.
Chigiri stared at the two as they slowly went back to their topic of their project. Eyeing them carefully, he was so sure that a connection was forming between the two. He was soooo sure he saw the smallest bit of light in her eyes when she was talking to Isagi.
"Five bucks...and your sister's number.." Kunigami whispered over to him.
"Five bucks and new hair treatment. Deal?"
"Fine..deal."
