It all Started With a Lie

A/N: I'm sorry for not being able to upload for so long. During the last bit of summer break, I was busy with online driver's ed and getting my beginners. And after that, school has had me in a chokehold. School is more exhausting than I remember it being. Like, time passes so slowly during classes I don't like and I thought I was good at math, but apparently not.

I'll do my best to get some chapters written up and published in closer proximity to each other so you all won't have to wait long. Also, I hope you can understand where I'm coming from, and please enjoy the chapter!

The girl laid still in her dark, chilly room. The soft sound of her breathing could be heard from the stillness of the space. Her eyes slowly fluttered open, vision still blurry. She slowly turned on her back and stared blankly at the ceiling. Without looking, she reached for her phone on the bedside table to look at the time.

She hissed at the bright screen and squinted to see the time reading '8:02'. She was surprised. She conditioned herself to wake up at 8:00 exactly as her parents were strict, and was disappointed by being two minutes late. If her parents were home they would've scolded her. Thankfully, they'd already gone off to work.

The girl finally sat up and scrolled through her contact list. Her thumb stopped swiping and she passed on a single contact. It was Atsumu's. Although silent, her mind swarmed with thoughts and she exhaled a laugh.

"I can't believe myself. How did things even turn out like this?"

In her childhood, Hiromi had a crush on Osamu. Even though she and Y/N ended up going to a different middle school from the twins, she couldn't stop liking him. Things could only get worse. All hope for her was lost when her strict parents enforced her to focus on studying, practicing piano, and not to dare think about dating until she was constantly top of the class and grade.

She knew they were being ridiculous, but what could she even do? Disobey or rebel against them and possibly get disowned? Become the family disappointment by "lacking" in everything? Or do her best to live up to their demands? Obviously, she picked the latter. Somehow, she succeeded in fulfilling their crazy expectations. Of course it came at the cost of much needed socialization and freedom, but her parents couldn't care less. And so she was practically under house arrest until she was perfect

Things took a turn when she finally got to go to Inarizaki High School. The school where her best friends and crush would be. Hiromi was ecstatic that she and Y/N could reconnect with the Miya twins. The first year, things were still cold and awkward between the four. They would greet each other if any of them ran into one another, but that was the extent of their interactions.

However, the start of the second year changed the game. For all four of them.

Hiromi was set on letting Osamu know about her feelings, but she didn't know how. And of course, her best friend Y/N had a seemingly one-sided love with the other twin.

On her end, she tried to catch Osamu's attention whenever she could and failed (or so she thought, he was simply too flustered or shy and ended up acting indifferent). On Y/N's end, she could only watch Atsumu from afar. She knew there was a distance between them and didn't want to ruin their friendship. Poor Y/N thought that Atsumu was way out of her league.

As a last resort, Hiromi killed two birds with one stone. At first, she really only wanted to make Osamu jealous. The easiest and fastest way to do that would be through spending more time with his twin, who he knows he's better than. And after convincingly faking feeling's for the blonde twin, Y/N came to Hiromi with a problem. Y/N simply mentioned that she wanted to get over Atsumu in order to not ruin her friendship with either party (assuming that Hiromi did like Atsumu for real). The seemingly perfect best friend happily agreed and began to make her moves.

Of course she felt bad for her best friend Y/N who was suffering deeply, but she could only focus on whether Osamu could get jealous. She never really knew what he was thinking behind his blank expression. Eventually she went as far as getting into a relationship with the unsuspecting blonde twin and he complied oddly easily. But she couldn't care less about the reason behind his actions.

It baffled Hiromi when soon after she and Atsumu started "dating", Y/N and Osamu got closer. She began to notice him expressing himself in front of her best friend. She couldn't understand what she was doing wrong. How come he only showed Y/N his smile, his sadness, his anger? Why won't he react to anything I do or say?

'It just doesn't make sense!' She thought to herself.

It bothered her how well the two of you got along. What was so special about you? Why couldn't she be in your place? Why wasn't her plan working? Jealousy ate away at her from the inside. She loved you, but seethed with anger at the thought of you and Osamu together.

To suppress her overflowing sense of envy, she started hanging out with Atsumu more. Like a real couple should. At first she only saw him as her childhood friend. Still able to converse with him and engage in physical touch that wasn't to intimate or romantic. It just wasn't possible for her.

In the blink of an eye, April became August and here she was now. She found her herself having fallen for Atsumu and regretting her horrible actions. She learned what liking someone should be like, the pain of seeing your crush and best friend together, and...that what she did was fucked up.

Hiromi didn't want to tell anyone the truth because things were going good now. But she knew it would be wrong to keep them in the dark. They have a right to know how she truly felt and what she did.

The girl sat on her bed with a sigh. She tapped on Atsumu's contact and sent him a text.

Tsumu

Omi:

morning! can we meet at the park today?

Tsumu:

sure, but why?

Omi:

there's something I need to tell you, promise you'll hear me out?

Tsumu:

yeah, yeah, I'll listen

Hiromi hurriedly got ready and ran out her door to get to the park. She jogged lightly to get to the familiar playground from childhood, just a few blocks  from their street. As she neared the park, lush, green foliage entered her view. The now tiny-looking playground just feet away from her favourite bench under the biggest tree.

Honestly, She expected to arrive first, giving herself ample time to think about how she's even going to explain things. Maybe she underestimated his ability to get ready and walk here, but somehow, Atsumu was already there. He was right under the tree, leaning against the trunk gazing at the grass.

Her breath hitched as her light jog slowed to a walk and eventually stopped right in front of him.

Her heartbeat rang loudly in her ears. He looked breathtaking like usual and her heart betrayed her. A deep blush rushed to her cheeks and she hid her face by looking at the ground.

Hiromi shook her head to get the thought out and took a few deep breaths. She brought her head up suddenly to look Atsumu in the eyes and tell him the truth.

"I- I lied to you!"

A/N: Yay! We got to see Hiromi's POV and her thoughts throughout this suck-y situation. I hope this chapter explained some things or the reasons for characters' actions (specifically Hiromi). Thanks again for reading!
