MITCHS POV
THE NEXT DAY
Annika and I sat at a table across the street from the restaurant, which Sharif was set to meet his acquaintance at. Annika talked to an older man while I observed people walking in and out of the restaurant .
"He thinks we're married" she turned to me with a chuckle. I didn't show much interest in her conversation to me, considering I was trying to focus on this mission.
"Don't think to much, you'll loose your nerve." Annika stated, I guess she noticed how hard I was trying to concentrate. "No I don't think so." "This will be your first time." "Yeah,well...not in my mind."
Annika and I watched as a car pulled up the street, along with a few military vans. I realized it was Sharif pulling up as he walked out of the car. I pressed a button on my earpiece, speaking to Adams "Lead, your friend's arriving now." "Copy." Still taking into the ear piece I said,"And he brought a shit load of military protection." "I'll take care of the MPs." Stan interrupted.
I kept watch of Sharif, who disappeared from my view as he entered the restaurant. Couple minutes went by, and the army men ran back into their vans, starting to leave. Guess Stan did take care of it. "Lead, you're a go, survey two get in place."
Stan told us. "Be careful in there" Annika told me as I jumped up from my seat at Hurley's command. "Yeah I go it."
I started to walk through the street, passing by people as I went. I noticed a girl come up next to me, walking by my side. "What are you doing here?"I asked as I continued walking "I'm not staying in a fucking car for the whole mission." I agreed with Samantha's remark as we made our way to the restaurant. Walking in, I slid out a chair from a table, signaling to Sam that we should sit here. Taking a seat, we both looked towards the bar where Sharif was sitting.
Victor walked inside as well and noticed Sharif immediately. Sam and I had a perfect view of Sharif, so perfect that we noticed him slide something small across the table.
Adams began making his way to where the foreign man was sitting, probably also noticing the small object.
The guy that was meeting Sharif had walked in from the left, and sat down next to Sharif, before Adams could make a move.
Samantha and I watched as the meeting started to played out. Turning my attention to the girl sitting next to me, I saw her squinting in distress.
"Mitch something's not right." "What do you mean?" "I know who Sharifs talking to." She kept her stare steady at the two men. "Fuck!" She quickly sprung up from the chair.
I tried to call her back, but it was no use. The guy Sam was worried about also got up from his seat, and started to walk towards Victor. Victor took it slow, I hoped that he had realized that the man was walking to me, and that victor would keep his cool.
Picking up a knife from a customers table, the man lunged it into Adams' stomach. "Shit." I got up and watched as Adams fall to the floor. Everyone around us screamed as they saw the blood oozing out of his stomach . The man noticed me starting to run up to him. Pulling out his gun, he immediately started to fire it, killing people in his way.
I grabbed Samantha who luckily didn't get very far, and pulled her down. Covering her head as we ducked, I found a pillar that I ran behind and pulled her along with me.
There were gunshots everywhere, when I tried to get a clear shot at the guy, he ran out. I looked down and saw Victor laying dead on the floor. "Shit. Targets gone, targets gone." I yelled into my earpiece "Lead?" Stan questioned. "Dead."
I looked around to find Sam to see if she had left from the pillar, but once I found her she was still on the floor. Her face expressed that she was in pain and I followed her arm to where her hand was putting pressure on her leg. "What happened?" I scrambled next to her, trying not to get trampled by the screaming people. "I got shot" she groaned in pain.
I noticed blood starting to cover her jeans and her hand. "Come on." I picked her up, throwing her arm around my shoulder and wrapping mine around her waist. I ran out with Samantha limping on me, Sharif ran to his car and quickly drove away. Damnit.
"What happened?!" Stan yelled as he ran up with Annika and saw Samantha. "I thought I fucking told you stay in the car!" He yelled at her. "Well I didn't" "Yeah and look what happened." He shook his head, "Let's go."
We ran to the car which was parked around the block, and piled in. I helped Samantha get in the car and followed in after her. Sam was good at keeping pressure on her wound but she was losing a lot of blood.
She would groan in pain as the car hit bumps in the road. Noticing her distress I placed my hand on top of hers, helping her keep tight pressure on her leg. "Hey you're gonna be okay we're almost there." I tried to comfort her. She looked at me with a sarcastic smile and went back to focusing on her wound.
As soon as we got to the house, Sam opened the door and fell out, she wasn't able to stand on her own by herself. Stan and I rushed to her defense, but Sam was already pushing herself up. "It's fine, I got it." "No you don't Samantha. This wouldn't have happened if you would've just stayed in the car!"
Stan walked away as soon as he finished yelling at his daughter, not even attempting to help her get inside.
"Here, let me help you." I didn't bother to wait for her response, I wrapped my arm around her waist once again and took her inside. "Go to the bathroom, there should be a first aid kit in there."
She limped to the bathroom and sat down on the toilet, while I grabbed the first aid kit from under the sink. Samantha took it upon herself to rip her jeans apart, exposing her mid thigh and the gun shot wound.
"Guessing by how you're handled this, you've been shot before?" I asked, unzipping the closed kit. "Twice when she was younger but nothing this bad." Stan replied, leaning against the bathroom door frame. I turned around to look up at the older man who still did not look happy. "Seriously Samantha what we're you thinking?" he questioned. I minded my own business and went back to taking out the supplies I needed to stitch Samantha's wound.
"You brought me on this mission dad, I'm not going to sit in a car and leave my recruit on his own." Sam breathed out.
Stan didn't say anything, instead he walked away.
SAMANTHA'S POV
I watched my father looked at me with disappointment and leave. Mitch started to take out the bullet from my leg with a pair of tweezers. Once it was removed, He stitched me up. Lifting my leg up, he wrapped gauze around my thigh and threw the bullet away.
I began to push myself up from the toilet, but Mitch stopped me mid in my tracks. "Whoa whoa whoa, are you sure you can stand? You did just fall out of the car like five minutes ago." "Yes I'm sure Rapp. I've been through this before." "Okay, just making sure." He raised his hands up in defense and let me try to gain my balance.
Of course just when I thought I was good, my knees crumpled like a piece of paper and I fell to the ground.
Before actually making contact with the floor, Mitch caught me and placed me down on the cold floor gently. I groaned in anger, why did I have to get shot in the leg, of all places?
I looked up at Mitch, noticing something was wrong. "You wanted to go after him, huh?" "How'd you know?" "I'd know that look from anywhere, even i've had it before," I leaned against the wall before I continued. "...I know where he is." "How?" "When I hacked his assistant's phone I saw Sharifs hotel information." "Well, tell me where it is." "Oh no no no,you're not going." I shook my head at him. No way in hell was he going to go after this guy alone.
"Come on Sam, please? How else will we ever get this mission done if we don't go after the target?" I looked up into his eyes. He was desperate. He truly did want to find this guy. Considering I just lost my best friend,I wouldn't mind finding him to. I especially wanted to find the asshole Sharif was meeting as well.
"You're not going alone. I'll go get ready and the we'll leave." "What? no, Sam you can't even walk. If you insist on coming with me, at least rest first."
I sighed. he was right, I did need to get at least a little bit of rest before doing anything physical. "Fine...but we'll go tomorrow night. I should hopefully be decent by then." "You sure?" "Yes i'm sure Mitch...I just lost my best friend, I would like to find these scumbags as quickly as possible." He nodded in agreement and I reached out my hand so he could pull me up.
Mitch got the gesture and helped me up, he even carried me to the room where I was staying. Mitch placed me in the bed and asked if I need anything. I replied with a no and we said goodnight.
As he left, I couldn't help but feel overwhelmed about my best friend. I lost the only guy that I felt a real connection with. Sure I had my brother, but it was nice to have someone else there for you.
I laid down, replaying Victor's death over and over again. I should've noticed sooner, how could I not have?
My mind kept racing with thoughts all night. Need less to say, I absolutely got no sleep.
