The train ride to Hogwarts was well needed. I loved hearing everything Pansy did over the summer, although it did spark a bit of jealousy in me.
"So, tell me what you did over break." Pansy questioned me, looking engaged as she waited for my next words.
"Oh you know, traveled to Paris, fell in love, got married, had a few kids." I answered sarcastically, shrugging everything I said off nonchalantly.
She snorted loudly, shaking her head slowly. "Pretty bad I'm guessing then."
A guilty look filled her eyes. I hated seeing her feel guilty for me, I didn't want people to sympathize over me or think of me as broken. Even though my mother's leave did break me somewhat, I was rather angry at her decision. She had a 13 year old daughter who she was leaving but still couldn't feel guilty enough to come back, forget about visiting. Not even mentioning a husband who was madly in love with her.
Anger rushed through my body, making me bite my bottom lip at the very thought of how reckless and disgusting her leaving us was.
"You could put it that way," I responded, trying not to sound as mad as I really was. I stopped biting my lip, as a quiet breath left my mouth. I shook my head slowly, looking down at my hands that anxiously played with each other. "I just wish it didn't break my father as much as it did." I noted, not making eye contact with the girl that sat across from me.
"If you ever want to.. talk-" Pansy started, clearing her throat. "I'm here.. for you." She finished, weakly smiling at me.
My gaze finally traveled from my hands to her eyes. I smiled sweetly back at her. I appreciated knowing that, even though I doubted I'd ever want to talk about it.
"Thanks, pans." I stated, trying to sound as sincere as possible.

Once we made it to Hogwarts, I followed Pansy down to the Slytherin common room. We wanted to unpack a little bit before we headed to the Great Hall for the feast.
"Oh that's a cute shirt! You should wear it to the party Friday night." Pansy exclaimed, pointing to the shirt I was folding.
"Party?" I questioned, moving my eyes from the satin dark green tank top in front of me to her.
"Yes, of course. Slytherin is having a party in the common room on Friday to celebrate coming back to school." She answered, looking at me somewhat dumbfounded.
"You sure it's not just an excuse for a party? I can't imagine anyone from Slytherin actually being excited to come back to school." I joked, continuing to fold my clothes.
We shared a laugh with each other at how true the statement was.
"A party is a party, and we're going."
I scrunched my nose slightly at her, not sure if I wanted to go. In return, she raised her eyebrows at me, tilting her head with a stern face.
"Ok ok, fine," I agreed, earning an excited squeal from her. I laughed quietly at her excitement, quite excited about the party too. "But you have to help me get ready." I said, pointing my index finger at her, sternly.
She smiled at my proposition and nodded her head in agreement.
Not long after our talk, we were both finished unpacking our clothes. Seeing as we had 2 minutes before the feast started, there was only a quick glance between the two of us before we both started sprinting down the dungeons to the Great Hall. Laughter filled the hallways as we ran as quick as we could, trying hard not to be late.
With wide grins and panting breaths we walked over to the Slytherin table. With there only be few places left to sit, we settled to sit near Daphne Greengrass, Blaise Zabini, Draco Malfoy(and of course with him came his little minions; Crabbe and Goyle.)
"Where have you two been?" Blaise questioned, winking at us. It was only then when I realized that Mine and Pansy's hair were both pretty messed up, and our panting breaths could intend something that definitely didn't happen.
"Oh shut it, Zabini," I rolled my eyes at his reference, which only made him chuckle.
"We were only folding our clothes," Pansy said, as we both sat down next to everyone.
"I can see." He smirked at the both of us, nodding his head slowly.
I nudged his shoulder, earning a chuckle from Draco, who sat on the right of Blaise.
"Jealousy doesn't look good on you, Zabini." Draco sneered, glancing over at me and smirking.
Pansy and I laughed at the comment, although I'm sure for different reasons. Never have I ever thought Draco Malfoy would use one of my comebacks. Yeah I'd definitely tease him about it later.
Everyone slowly stopped talking as Dumbledore cleared his throat, waiting for our attention.
"Welcome!" The man spoke. "Welcome to another year at Hogwarts! I have three announcements before our feast begins, two are rather exciting and the other is.. well, take it as a warning." He paused, making us all give confused glances at each other before he spoke again.
"As you will all be aware after this search of Hogwarts Express, our school is presently playing host to some of the dementors of Azkaban, who are here on Ministry of Magic business." Dumbledore paused again, looking at everyone's slightly concerned faces. "They are stationed at every entrance to the grounds, and while they are with us, I must make it plain that nobody is to leave school without permission. It is not in the nature of a dementor to understand pleading or excuses." He finishes, with a stern face.
I had heard a little bit of the accident on the Hogwarts Express but goodness, I didn't think they'd be here with us all school year.
"On a happier note," Dumbledore started once again. "I am pleased to welcome two new teachers to our ranks this year. First, Professor Lupin will be filling the post of Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher." He spoke, seeming very happy about his words. "And now our second teacher, since Professor Kettleburn retired at the end of last year in order to enjoy more time with his remaining limbs." He muttered more and more as the sentence went on. "I am delighted to share that his place with be filled by none other than Rubeus Hargid."
A loud applause filled my ears, but not from the Slytherin table. I really had no idea why they hated Hargid, or how anyone could hate the man honestly.
It was hard not to smirk at all of their disgusted faces, specifically the platinum blonde sitting across from me. I just knew that if he spoke right now he'd have nothing to say but "wait until my father hears about this." I almost laughed at the thought, and how childish he was, but luckily I kept it together.
"Now for the last announcement! I am pleased to share that Professor Mcgonagall has stepped up and volunteered to teach an extra curriculum." He spoke once again, with a grin on his face. "Next semester, she will be holding auditions for a musical."
The Hall once again filled with clapping and cheering, but I rarely heard any of it as my thoughts were on something else. A musical. The thing my mother left to pursue and now Hogwarts was hosting one? How convenient.
I felt a light squeeze on my hand, distracting me from my thoughts. I look up to see Pansy sweetly smiling at me. She knew. She knew exactly what I was thinking in the moment and was trying to help.
I smiled back at her, appreciating her kind thought, and soon started distracting myself with the feast that appeared in front of everyone.
As everyone enjoyed the feast we all talked about what we did over the summer, although I made sure to not mention my mother leaving. I didn't need nor want the sympathy and pity from everyone.

As I walked back to the common room with Pansy, and Daphne (who happened to be my roommates) I noticed Draco, walking by himself, in front of us.
"I'll be right back." I tell the two girls walking next to me. They give me confused looks, that I barely saw before jogging up to the Blonde in front of me.
Once I finally caught up to him, he glanced over at me, furrowing his brows in confusion.
"Stealing my comebacks now, huh?" I asked, smirking at the boy next to me.
He looked slightly confused before chuckling and moving his gaze onto his feet, shaking his head slowly.
"Ah, so your small little brain noticed that?"
"It did indeed," I grinned, knocking my knuckles twice on my head.
I watched as he looked over and laughed at my movements.
"Are you going to the party on Friday?" I questioned him, once our laughter started fading.
"I don't know," he shrugged.
"Oh c'mon, you have to! I'll help you get all ready, Mascara, lipstick, everything for a princess like you." I said, in a sing-song type way.
He looked over at me, a confused look on his face, but I noticed his lips trying not to smile.
"Merlin, you're... strange." He chuckles quietly.
"You know you love it." I responded.
Right after I said that, I realized we had reached the common room. I quickly turned around, walking backwards, and winking at him before I ran up to where my roommates were.
