There's a new kid at camp. Grover brought him in yesterday, said he killed a minotaur. Eurydice has been dying to see the kid, but he's been in the infirmary and she doesn't want to overwhelm him with new people. That's why when Luke comes by and finds her telling her he's awake and staying in the Hermes cabin for now, she doesn't hesitate to run over there with Luke's hand in hers.

Some of the kids stand towards the back of the cabin looking towards the kid and whispering about what happened. Luke and I approach the kid.

"Look, if you want to give me a hard time, just do it tomorrow." He sighs at the two of us, "I can't do any more today."

"Heard what happened to you on the hill. And I just... wanted to say I'm really sorry." Luke speaks up.

"I know what you're going through. Believe me." Eurydice adds on nodding sympathetically at the kid.

"I'm Luke. That's Eurydice." Luke introduces us.

"Percy." The kid responds holding out his hand. I shake it first and then Luke follows.

Later that night Eurydice heads back to her cabin leaving Luke and Percy in the Hermes cabin.

The next morning Eurydice decides to go for a walk. She takes a stroll through the flower fields laying in the grass, watching the sun rise over the hill. The wind blowing Thalia's leaves. She walks slowly back to camp seeing Percy and Luke talking and Clarisse storming away angrily. She rolls her eyes at the daughter of Ares, before moving over to Luke and Percy.

"Well, she seems nice." Percy quips as Clarisse walks away.

"Ares kids." Eurydice says approaching them, "They come by it honestly."

"Why don't they mess with either of you?" Percy asks the couple.

"They know better," Luke responds honestly.

"Luke's the strongest swordsman at camp." Charlie comments from behind the group.

"So, they leave you alone because 'glory?'" Percy asks, "So if I get glory, Clarisse wouldn't mess with me either?"

"Exactly," Luke says.

"And people think I'm a big deal?" Percy asks hopefully.

"Well yeah but-" Eurydice starts before he cuts her off.

"And my dad's got no choice but to claim me."

"You can't force the gods to do anything." Luke says sympathetically placing a hand on Percy's shoulder.

"Well, yeah, but... it would make it harder for him to pretend I don't exist, right?"

Eurydice frowns at Percy, understanding his need to be claimed.

All Luke says is, "Maybe."

"Well, great." Percy responds determined, "Where do we start?"

Luke leads Percy and Eurydice to the training centers. "A good source of glory are feats of skill. So, we gotta figure out what you're good at." He explains to Percy as we walk.

"I wanna be very clear about this, I've never done anything like this before, and it looks super dangerous." Percy protests.

"And you'd never killed a minotaur before. Until you did." Eurydice teases the younger messing up his hair.

We decide to start with archery. Luke and Eurydice each take a turn. Luke hits the bullseye and Eurydice hits the target, but not dead center. She was never great at archery, she was much better with a blade. Then it was Percy's turn. He loaded the bow shakily, before pulling back the string. He releases the arrow and it somehow shoots straight up into the air. The campers run out of the way of the arrow and Percy stands there sheepishly.

"Should I try again?" He asks.

"No!" Luke shouts while Eurydice grabs the bow from his hands.

They tried a few other things nothing really seeming to stick with Percy. Eventually the group decided to call it quits for the day and have some lunch.

"Is there a Greek god of disappointment?" Percy speaks up over his food, "Maybe someone should ask him if he's missing a kid."

Eurydice can't help but let out a small chuckle at that.

"Oizys... but she's a goddess." Luke responds, "And her whole thing isn't really disappointment, it's more like failure."

"We're gonna find the thing that you're good at. I know it." Eurydice tries to cheer up the boy across the table from her.

A bell rings in the courtyard and Luke sighs standing up. Eurydice in tow.

"Our turn." He says.

"Our turn for what?" Percy asks.

"Burnt offerings," Eurydice explains.

"The gods like the smell, so it gets their attention before you say a prayer." Luke adds on.

"They like the smell of burnt mac & cheese?" Percy's nose scrunches up.

"They like the smell of begging," Luke answers bitterly and Eurydice places her hand in his to try and calm him down.

"You burn what you'll miss the most." Eurydice says to Percy, "Then they know you really mean what you're about to say, so they listen."

That night Eurydice lies awake. She can't bring herself to sleep. She tries to shrug it off as excitement for tomorrow's game of capture the flag, but she just has this sinking feeling. Like something is going to go wrong.

The next morning Eurydice emerges from her cabin looking exhausted.

"Good morning woah-" Luke says taking in Eurydice's appearance. "What's wrong?" He asks.

The blonde shrugs, "Couldn't sleep."

"Are you going to be okay for capture the flag?" Luke worries.

"I'll be fine Luke. I promise."

Luke nods trusting the blonde, but he still worries for her.

Luke then leads the girl over to Percy.

"You're gonna love this. Camp wide mock warfare, all glory to the victors." Luke explains excitedly. Eurydice has to fight a smile at how excited Luke is for the game. He always lights up when he's excited about something and it makes it hard for Eurydice to not be excited.

Annabeth walks by the three and Eurydice waves happily at her.

"Annabeth's the head counselor of the Athena cabin." Luke explains after seeing Percy staring at her, "She's led our team to three straight wins."

"Been a long time since anyone's won a fourth." Eurydice comments.

"She was there in the bathroom." Percy says, "She said she'd been waiting for it to happen."

"Annabeth sees the world differently. Always six steps ahead of everyone else." Luke tells Percy gently.

"You should cut her a break." Eurydice chimes in.

"Whose side are you on, anyway?" Percy asks us.

"Oh, hers, always." Luke says fondly.

"She's our little sister." Eurydice adds.

"Maybe we should back up," Luke explains.

"Before camp, I was on the road. Me and a forbidden kid I met along the way. Her name was Thalia."

Eurydice cringes at Thalia's name.

"And what does that mean, forbidden?" Percy asks.

Luke continues, "A long time ago, Zeus, Poseidon, and Hades agreed their children were becoming too powerful, so they made a pact not to father any more. And it held for a long time, until Zeus broke that pact. Until Thalia. A forbidden kid attracts trouble. Monsters everywhere, it's just a constant battle to stay alive."

"One day, we, uh, find this little girl hiding in an alley. Annabeth. We were worried about taking her in, exposing her to all that danger. Then we saw her fight. A week later we found Eurydice being chased by a fury. We took her in too." Luke smiles over at Eurydice.

"Thalia didn't make it. But Annabeth, Eurydice, and I... we did. And we've been family ever since." Luke laces his fingers between Eurydice's squeezing her hand.

"She's been watching me since I got here. Why?"

"Annabeth is the strongest warrior in camp." Eurydice sighs softly, "The only way left to prove herself is to go on a quest."

"And what does this have to do with me?" Percy asks.

"Chiron's been promising her for years." Eurydice starts.

"One day, a demigod would arrive who was fated to go on a quest that even Chiron couldn't prevent. And when that happened, she could join it." Luke finishes.

"Every new arrival, Annabeth watches, looking for a sign they're the one. Usually, she gives up after a day or two, but she's still watching you." Eurydice tells Percy.

"Can you guys ask her to knock it off?" Percy asks frustrated.

"Yeah, sure." Luke smiles, "But what if she's right?"

The conch shell is blown drawing all the kid's attention to Chiron and Mr. D.

"Heroes... it's time." Chiron begins his big speech.

"The game begins. The first team to retrieve the opposing flag and return it across the river shall be the victor. As always, there will be no maiming and no killing. I trust these rules will be respected. Any magical items you may possess, are permitted as well. Every camper who is not injured must play."

Luke turns to Percy noticing his nerves. He hands him a sword.

"It's okay." He tells the younger blonde, "Let her rip."

"I still don't even know what my job is." Percy sighs, "Maybe I won't even need a sword."

Then Chiron says, "Let the games begin." Everyone's off in a mess of battle cries as the conch shell blows again.

"I'm gonna need a sword." Percy says nervously.

They all meet as a team, Annabeth directing them.

"All right. We have 20 minutes before the second conch and game on." She turns to Luke and Eurydice, "You know what you're doing?"

Luke and Eurydice nod.

"Yes, ma'am." Luke replies and Eurydice salutes her. The two turn to head off, but Annabeth stops them.

"Hey," She calls out, "Today feel like a winning kind of day to you two?"

"We'll see you on the other side," Eurydice replies taking Luke's hand before running off with their small group Annabeth told to follow them.

Luke, Eurydice, and the few other campers with them fight their way towards the flag making quick work of the other team.

"We give up." One of the campers says.

"I wanna move quick. Straight through the woods to their flag." Luke explains to the rest of us.

"Clarisse hunts in those woods for the first few hours, you know that." One kid points out.

"She's gonna cut us down." Another kid adds.

"Annabeth's got a plan." Eurydice reassures them, "Percy's on it."

The group looks at each other nervously not exactly taking comfort in that thought.

"When it's time, he's gonna be ready. I know it." Luke defends Percy.

"Let's keep moving," He directs the group through the woods moving quickly towards the flag.

Eurydice sees the red of the flag through the trees and lets out a call to everyone else telling them she found the flag. They all move towards the flag watching out for anyone from the red team, but the area seems relatively deserted. They grab the flag before running back to their base.

The conch shell blows declaring them the victors and Luke lifts Eurydice up laughing and celebrating their win.

All the campers begin to gather on the shore of the lake when all of a sudden Annabeth pushes Percy into the water.

"What is wrong with you?" Percy asks angrily.

Eurydice runs over to Percy to try and help him, but she stops when she notices the cuts on his arms and face begin to close up. Suddenly the water moves to form a trident over Percy's head and she lets out a small gasp.

"I don't understand." Percy says looking up.

"Your dad's calling." Annabeth tells Percy.

Chiron steps forward, "You have been claimed by Poseidon, Earthshaker, Storm bringer. Percy Jackson, son of Poseidon."

That night Luke and Eurydice lay in the bed in her cabin.

"Do you think Percy will be okay?" Eurydice worries for the younger boy. Luke said it himself forbidden kids attract trouble. Percy doesn't deserve that. She can't let him end up like Thalia.

"He'll be okay," Luke reassures tracing circles on Eurydice's arms.

"What if he-" Eurydice's voice cuts out as tears form in her eyes, "What if he ends up like Thalia."

"He won't," Luke says sternly.

"You're right," Eurydice agrees making up her mind then and there, "I won't let him."

She would do anything to protect Percy. To keep him safe.
