"And you're sure this won't kill me?" Daisy began, holding an orange hard candy in her hand, it seemed to be glowing.
"When have we ever failed?" Fred asked her, elbowing George for back up.
"All our treats do exactly what they're supposed to do!"
"Didn't one of your love potions make Katie Bell fall in love with Dean Thomas?"
"User error," they said in unison. It still freaked her out when they did that.
"If I die because you too messed this up I swear to Merlin..." she trailed off in her own thoughts, absentmindedly looking towards the arena which seemed terrifying.
"Don't even joke about that Rosie," Fred started, giving her an encouraging smile, "you're gonna do great."
"Yeah Diggory, Potter doesn't stand a chance against you," George added, winking at her, "hey Freddie, grab us some seats, would you?" Fred picked up the box that contained everyone's bets and found them some good seats.
"Private pep talk?" Daisy looked at him knowingly, he only smiled and pulled her into the broom shed.
"Listen Diggory, I know how you must be feeling right about now, I just wanted to-" Daisy cute George off with a passionate kiss, pulling him down by the collar of his shirt to meet her lips.
He held her tightly, and her panic seemed to disappear for only a moment, and a moment longer when she looked into his lustful eyes afterwards.
"Not complaining or anything, but what was that for?" George smiled at her, pushing a piece of hair that had fallen out of her braids behind her ear.
"Courage," she smiled back at him and rested her head on his chest and he put his chin on the top of her head, trying to hold onto this moment. It was quickly spoiled though, she knew she had to leave soon and so did George, but she was terrified.
"I'm scared, Georgie," was all she could say.
"I know, Angel. But you're going to be ok. You know I won't let anything happen to you." He pulled away a little bit, just to plant a soft kiss on her forehead.
"I'm gonna be ok," she pulled away from him slowly and walked out of the broom shed, trying to gain her confidence, "I'll see you as soon as I'm done."
He smiled proudly at her as she walked towards the tent where the champions were supposed to meet. As soon as Daisy stepped inside she saw Cedric, and she wasted no time accepting the hug he was offering her.
"How you feeling?" he asked as he let her go.
"I've been better, you?"
"More nervous then I thought I'd be, nothing I can't handle," he smiled at her, "you got a plan?"
"I do," she wrapped her hand tightly around the candy the Weasley's had given her, "do you?"
"Somewhat..." their conversation ceased as they were called over to select their dragons. Daisy picked right before Harry, second to last. The way it worked was quite interesting. They reached their hand into an old, brown sack that held miniature versions of the dragons.
As Daisy pulled her hand out, a small, white dragon curled around her fingers. She examined it closely as Harry picked his. She heard someone say it was an "Antipodean Opaleye." She could tell where it got its name from. It was covered in scales that were a pearl white color, glimmering where the sun reflected on it. Its eyes were mesmerising, they were completely white with no pupils, but someone she could tell it was looking at her, studying her. The Opaleye was one of the prettiest things she's ever seen, and it moved with elegance and grace. Daisy imagined it could have gone to Beauxbaton if it was a person.
Soon after they had all selected their dragons the challenges began, she wished Cedric luck before he went. Daisy really wanted to watch, but she didn't think she'd be able to stomach it. After Fleur, Krum, and Cedric had gone it was Daisy's turn. She'd been sitting with Harry in silence, neither one of them thinking of much to say. Their thoughts were consumed by the crowds cheers and boos, as well as a few screams that made them wince.
Daisy stood up and made her way towards the edge of the tent, taking a deep breathe before she stepped into the arena. Once she was visible the screams of the crowd were almost deafening, and the only person who was cheering louder then Fred was George. She spotted her boys immediately, and not just because they were tall. They had given plenty of people signs they'd made with encouraging messages, some were just covered in flowers. Fred's read "GO ROSIE" in big, sloppy handwriting. George's said, "CHAMPION DAISY DIGGORY" with hearts dotting the i's.
She looked at the dragon in front of her, and it's life sized companion was even more beautiful than the miniature version that was in the tent. Behind it, the golden egg she was meant to capture. She quickly consumed the candy Fred and George had given her and felt....
Absolutely the same.
It probably wasn't the best sign, but it was all she had. She pointed her wand towards the dragon, and it cocked its head at her, slowly moving closer.
"Expelliarmus!" Daisy muttered to herself, her wand shot out a green streak of light which earned her some cheers from the crowd, but they quickly faded when the dragon dodged it. In response, the Opaleye quickly slashed her across the face, leaving a deep cut that spanned from the outside corner of her right eye to her left ear. Daisy winced in pain, but stayed standing.
It was at this moment Daisy had to put her faith in the people she cared about. The dragon took a deep breath, she knew it was about to spit fire. She didn't move, or run. She decided she trusted her boys with her life, and she was just about to prove she really did.
The dragon fired at her, surrounding her in fiery, blue flames. The crowd was silent, they thought she had died.
It was only when she was completely engulfed did Daisy run between the dragons hind legs towards her prize. She screamed, "Accio egg!" and it quickly came into her arms as she ran out the other side.
"IT SEEMS DAISY DIGGORY HAS HER PRIZE!" Lee Jordan interrupted the silence, and the crowd cheered for her. She spotted George, who she had never seen so happy and so relieved at the same time.
She rushed back to the tent and placed her egg on the cot she was given, quickly wishing Harry luck as she ran back out the other side, where her boys were already waiting for her. As soon as they saw each other, Daisy jumped into George's arms and he held her tight as he spun around. "I knew you could do it, Diggory," he whispered into her ear as he put her down.
She only smiled at him and she hugged Fred, who had finally caught up to George, "your trick worked..." was all she could say, she was still catching her breath.
"Sounds like she had some doubt in us, Freddie."
"I think she did, George."
She only laughed at them, and her face stung, which quickly reminded her that she was bleeding. She was so caught up in the fact that she wasn't dead to remember that she didn't make it out scott free. She raised a hand to her face, and George quickly pulled it away, "I'll patch you up, don't worry," he didn't let go of her hand, and Fred definitely noticed but he didn't say anything, just observed as Daisy and George gazed at each other.
"I'll go collect the bets, you wanna patch her up?" Fred asked calmly, even though his mind was racing with confusion.
"Thanks, mate," George responded, Fred quickly went back to the stadium where Harry was being announced.
"Don't you want to see Harry?" Daisy asked as they walked towards the school.
"You're more important," he said softly, holding her hand as they walked in the moonlight, "scared me half to death there, you know that?"
"Believe me, I would have much rather not been in the middle of the dragons fire breath," she chuckled.
"Don't know what I would have done if something had happened to you."
"Well something did happen to me," George looked at Daisy confused, but she just gestured to the scratch on her face. It'd finally stopped bleeding, but it was still red and irritated.
"You know what I mean, something worse," he talked absentmindedly.
"Well someone has to look after you and Fred, constantly getting into trouble, you too," she laughed at him.
"Usually our trouble has something to do with you."
"Oh it does not!" They jokingly bickered back and forth until they reached the Gryffindor common room where George gave the fat lady the password.
Daisy sat down on one of the couches and George went to get a first aid kit that Molly insisted he and Fred brought with them because "you too get into too much trouble to not have one."
"You know how to use that stuff?" Daisy asked George once he returned, he fiddled with some small vials in the old wooden box.
"Most of it, yeah. You'll need a bit of this," he began, pouring some pink liquid into a larger cup, "some of this," he added something blue to the same cup, "dash of this," a green leaf fell into the drink and disintegrated, making the substance glow a bit.
"So this will kill me, then?" Daisy laughed, he was adorable when he was concentrating, "the dragon couldn't finish me so you decided to?"
"You've figured out my plan," he stirred the drink a bit and handed it to her, "this should do the trick for the pain and any dirt that's in it..." he moved very close to her face to examine the cut, "I'll still clean it out a bit, just to be safe."
George dipped a cloth in some water and muttered an incantation which caused it to shine for a moment before going back to normal. He moved closer to her once again, "Sorry, Angel, this may sting a bit," he carefully dabbed the cloth to her skin and she cringed in pain.
They sat in mostly silence, except for George's constant apologies whenever she winced. He felt terrible but she thought he was adorable.
They knew there would be a party incoming soon for the 2 gryffindor champions, but for now they had a moment to themselves and they didn't get a lot of those. That was enough for now.
