WARNING!!: major OOC-ness
"Cat ears! CAT EARS?! WHY IN THE NAME OF ALL THINGS ANIME DO I HAVE CAT EARS?!" You shrieked.
You tilt your head down when you realized something. Getting up, you turn to look at your back side, and it was indeed there.
A tail.
You plopped back down in a blank state.
"I'm a neko. There's no getting around it. But how?"
"It happened back at that Orochimaru character's lab. Look, I'm not amused by this either but-"
"THIS IS FLIPPING AWESOME!!"
"... Humans. Only humans. I've had enough of this. There better not be anymore changes to this body when I wake up from my slumber."
"Yeah, yeah. Got it." You mused. "I can't believe I'm actually a Nekomimi."
Just then, you remembered that you left Kakashi there.
"KAKASHI! Oh no no no no no!"
Getting back on your feet you ran..... On all fours.
"Is it just me or did the world get bigger?" You thought to yourself. You began to search yourself.
Paws
Cat ears
"MRROOOWWW!!" You mewed.
You were a full blown cat. You started to panic. You couldn't let Kakashi see you like this. Even if you did just achieve one one of your life long dreams.
"How do I get back to normal?" You thought to yourself.
You paused for a second, letting your stiff muscles relax. You calmed yourself as you thought of a way to return yourself back to normal.
"Oh yes, it would be good to be human right now." You thought to yourself as an image of you in your regular form popped up in your head.
Just like that, a white mist began to flow out if your body, and you were back to normal, but...
You were naked.
Your face erupted into a deep red, so red that it would put Sasori's hair to shame. (Or if you have darker skin like me: your face glowed so bright that the sun seemed dark in your presence.)
You made a mad dash to your little spot in the forest to find your clothes.
Mini time skip- brought to you by Tamaki's emo corner
Finally finding your clothes and getting back into them, you decided then to go find Kakashi; the odd voice in your head now long forgotten.
You walked out of the forest slightly wobbling do to the pain in your leg from where Orochimaru gave you that shot.
"This isn't going to well..." You muttered as you tried to think up a solution. Not finding any, you ended up toughing it out and limping all the way back to the village.
In what felt like hours, you were in front of the village's gates. You took a moment to steady yourself and breath a sigh. Once done, you walk up to the gates and entered the village.
"Its good to be back and finally out of the hell hole." You thought to yourself. Then you remembered something.
"What am I supposed to do about the cat thing? Should I tell Kakashi?" You shook your head no, "It'd probably freak him out."
Advancing further into the village you heard some familiar voices.
"I could've sworn I saw movement over here."
"We'll check there again."
"Wait! Is that her?!"
"Where?!"
"Over there! I think I see her, y'know!"
You froze in place, recognizing the voices of the two people that moved about the area. Instantly, you tried to pinpoint the location you saw the blurs go fell down when a red blur came launching itself at you. A squeak of surprise left you when the mysterious figure rapped it's arms around you and hugged you tightly.
"It is her, y'know!"
The "red blur" released you, maintaining a firm grip on your shoulders as Minato jumped out of the trees. You looked at Kushina, who seemed to be checking you for injuries, then to Minato who had now worn a relieved expression on his face.
"Minato-san, Kushina-san..." You muttered in disbelief.
"Expecting someone else?" Minato smiled as he rested one hand on his hip.
"No, I just..."
Minato seemed to understand to an extent as he looked down at Kushina.
"Let's just go back and report this all to the Hokage and let her rest, we can discuss everything later." His voice was calm and assertive. Kushina nodded her head, giving you one last warm hug before helping you back up.
The three of you were now walking back to the village since they figured you was probably in no condition to run or jump. On the way back, thy filled you in on everything that happened while you were gone and questioned what happened on your end. In all honesty, you were rather lost at what was going on now. Everything was happening in a flash. One minute you're in a lab, next minute you're back inside the village, standing in front of the Hokage's door beside Kushina and Minato. Not to mention, amidst everything, until you entered the Hokage's mansion, you had the feeling that someone was watching you with the most intense gaze. You let out a sigh, trying to grasp everything of what just happened in what felt like such a short time period.
Once you were finally there, he knocked on the door and waited for permission to enter.
Hearing a firm, "Enter." You both walk in and kneel before the Hokage. The Hokage averts his gaze from his paperwork to you two.
"Ah, I see you found miss (Y/n), may I ask where you were?"
"I was captured and brought to Orochimaru's lab as a test subject, sir." You speak up.
"Orochimaru... I knew there was something about that boy... I'll have my ninja's look into this more. Anyways, welcome back and I'm glad to see your safe."
"Thank you, and its good to be back." You reply, while still bowing.
"There is something I want to discuss with you, (Y/n). Minato, Kushina, you are dismissed."
The pair gets up and leaves the room, making you and the Hokage the only ones left. You didn't dare look up from your kneeling position as you can feel his intense gaze burning into your skull.
"What do you wish to speak to me about, lord third?"
"Its about your disappearance."
Your face became more serious at the mention.
"What about it, sir?"
"Exactly what happened?"
"I'm not entirely sure, all I remember was some weird red-ish liquid being injected in me. Then I blacked out. When I awoke, I was in a forest." You explain. Hesitating a bit out of fear, you reluctantly add the little piece of information that you had left out. "That, and I was in the form of a cat."
Lord Hiruzen looked at you strangely when you said 'cat'. To him you looked like your normal self. He was a bit taken aback to say the least, Although he made no effort in showing it. "Please, do explain."
"I'm afraid it's a bit hard to do so. I managed to get myself back to normal somehow, but I really don't know much about it." Mustering up some courage, you look up from the floor and into his charcoal black eyes.
"I see... The lack of information on this situation may prove to be quite troublesome later on."
You shift uncomfortably as he continued to speak.
"Letting you stay in this village without proper investigation could be disastrous. I'm afraid I will have to have you under close examination before anything."
His words echo in your head. 'Examination?'
"Before I am to send you off, I have of one last question. How exactly did you escape?"
"I don't know really, everything glowed black and purple and then 'poof' I'm in a forest."
He seemed to be deep in thought before he slowly blinked. "I see...That is all, you are dismissed." He said, a sigh escaping his lips as he summoned two ninjas. Briefing them on the situation, he had them escort you to the place of where you would be examined.
Time Skip
"Alright. I am about done here." The man said with a head full of long blond hair. Removing his hand from your back, he exited out of the small room and into the one that surrounded it. He had consulted the people who were in there, sharing the experience that he had went through while searching through your mind.
Speaking of your mind, you were left floating amidst in the all to familiar darkness. The voice that you had heard so many times in your dream and again after your snake and cat dilemma, now speaking to you once again.
'What do you think is going to happen?'
"Do not fret, child. I made sure not to give the man access to anything that may deem you a threat. However he chooses to utilize the information is no longer in my hands. We will have to wait and see how this goes."
"O-oh..." Was the only reply you could think of.
"It is time to wake up now, I sense someone approaching."
"G-got it!"
The darkness seemed to have faded away and solid grey filled your line of sight. Blinking a couple of times, you found yourself back in one of Konoha's infamous interrogation rooms. The last thing you remembering before being submerged into darkness was Inoichi preparing to probe your mind for some info. You half shuttered at the thought of him finding one of your rather embarrassing moments or plentiful knowledge of their world as you heard a door open and close.
Ears twitching, you turn in the direction of the sound and see an unknown masked man stand before you.
"You were proven harmless and is granted permission to go home. The Hokage wishes to see you tomorrow morning before the academy begin."
"R-r-right! Thank you." You stutter, the past events leaving you a nervous mess. Between being captured in by Orochimaru, being locked up in a hospital for who knows how long, and then having your mind being invaded by people who were practically strangers, you found yourself wondering how you managed to stay sane. Then again, that oddly familiar voice in your head that seems to speak to you at random suggests that you may have lost it long ago without noticing.
Regardless of your sanity, the masked man showed you back to your house and left in a cloud of smoke, leaving you alone outside your front door. You could feel the presence of two people beyond the door. That alone was enough to tell you that both Kushina and Minato was home and probably awaiting your entry.
Raising your hand to gently knock on the door, the said door flew open and a sudden force pulled you into the house, along with a sudden pain that greeted your head openly.
"Ooowww." You groaned as warmth enveloped you.
"How could you have been so careless, you ungrateful child! I was worried sick, ya know!" Came Kushina's loud, yet strained voice. You could feel her arms tighten around you as something warm and wet dripped onto your shoulder. Your once tense muscles relaxed into the embrace.
"You really had us scared there." Sounded Minato's usual calm voice. You almost flinched at the suddenness for you were sure he wasn't right there beside you the whole time... Was he?
"The moment that the news that you had been captured reached us, we finished the mission as soon as possible and rushed back here.
His words surprised you beyond comprehension , making your eyes water a bit. "You really did all that... for me?"
"Of course, we wouldn't want any harm to come of our precious friend. It's almost like you're apart of our family. I'm sure that my noisy wife agrees." He softly patted your head and smiled at you as he said this, causing a smile to shift it's way under your mask.
Without you even realizing it, your arms had found itself returning Kushina's welcomed hug as you buried your face into her neck. "Thank you.. for everything." You softly whispered.
Neither of them reacted or said anything back, instead they just stood there relishing in the moment. Minato keeping a hand on your head as Kushina held onto your small figure, giving you a feeling you haven't felt in a long time.
'Part of their family, huh?' You thought to yourself. Deep at the back of your head, you could've sworn you heard a faint scoff, but ignored it.
After a while of smiles, hugs, and warmth, Kushina let you go and you, Minato cleared his throat.
"Speaking of being apart of our family," he began to scratch his cheek sheepishly as he continued on with his sentence. "how would you like to make it official?"
You looked at him confused of what he meant, hoping that he would elaborate on his suggestion. Assumingly getting my confusion, he spoke up again.
"Me and Kushina had been think a lot lately, and over the time we have spent together, we had already felt like you were a part of this family. With your permsission, we'd like to adopt you." He finished.
You looked wide eyed from him to Kushina who only smiled and nodded at me. Warm tears formed at the corners of your eyes at the thought of it. 'They wanted to adopt me...' the idea was almost unreal.
"Sorry, was that too much? I didnt mean to make you cry." Minato and Kushina lookes a bit panicked now as you tried to conceal your tears.
"N-no, I mea yeah, I mean-" You wiped the tears from your eyes, soothing your quickening breaths as you looked to form an actual sentence. "I wouldn't mind..." You bit your lip, looking down, my cheeks were flushed.
"Really?"
You nod your head yes, taken aback when Kushina had hugged you again.
"That's great, y'know!"
"We can go first thing in the morning then to get the papers filled out." Minato was smiling now. "Meanwhile, you should head to bed. We got a long day ahead of us." He ruffled your hair once Kushina let you go.
Immediately, you bowed and bid them goodnight before going back to your room. Although, upon your entry, came something you didn't expect; a little someone pressed against your window, to be exact. You fell back on your bum the moment you noticed him and began to wonder how long he was there.
Upon noticing you, he tapped impatiently waiting for you to let him in. You sighed to yourself, noting that sometimes somethings just don't change before giving in and opening your window.
"Finally, I was beginning to feel like they'd keep you in there forever." He muttered as he made himself comfortable on your bed.
"How long were you out there?"
"Since you went to the Hokage's office with Kushina and Minato. I figured you'd be sent back soon, but I was obviously wrong." He paused to look you in your eyes. "What happened in there?" He asked bluntly.
"He just wanted to ask some questions concerning my disappearance. Nothing much, really."
He could sense that there were more to your words but judging by the faint look in your eyes, he didn't question it.
"Now tell me, why were you just squatting outside my window for the longest?"
"I-..." He genuinely stuttered for the first time in a while, trying to find the right words. "I-uh..Just... wanted to make sure you were okay..." He looked down at his feet as if replaying his words in his head to make sure they sounded right."
Feeling the place beside him begin to sink and grow warmer, he looked over to see you sitting next to him. You pressed you knees to your chest as you stared at him.
"Yeah?"
"Yeah. Are you hurt anywhere?" His hand began to curl into a tight fist as he continued. "Did he... do anything to you?"
"Kakashi..." You lay a gentle hand on his back. "I'm fine, and I'm here now. Isn't that all that matters?"
"..."
You stay quiet at his silent response. Waiting for him to give him a verbal one, you keep your eyes trained on your room door.
"I guess it is. I'm glad that your safe, (Y/n)."
He stood up to exit through the window before finding himself to be on something soft. He looked up in a haze, not remembering being so far away from the window.
"Sorry."
He blinked, only now realizing the warmth that was pressed to his back as well as the one creeping to his cheeks. "Why are you apologizing?"
"Earlier, I was told that when I was gone, you had repeatedly requested for a search party and lead the patrol each and every time, not once giving in and losing hope in me." You began softly. "If I wasn't so caught up in my own feelings, none of this would've happened. I must've put you through a lot of stress." You look down as your voice became quieter and and quieter with every word, your arms now loosely hung around his waist as your chest was pressed to his back. "I'm sorry."
A moment passed and no reaction came of the male. Your mind was abuzz as you honestly didn't know what to expect. The only thing comforting you at the moment was the fact that he hadn't fought against your hold on him and pushed you away.
You felt your heart skip a beat and your breath caught in your throat when he leaned into you. Pressing his back closer to you as if wanting take as well as share the warmth between the two of you.
"It's fine. As mentioned before, all that matters is that you came back without harm." His voice was surprisingly gentle as he reached one hand up to hold your arm that was still hung loosely around him.
Letting the words sink in, you recovered from your shock and smiled a bit, tightening your hold on him before slowly retracting your arms. He stopped you mid way, grabbing both of your arms and bring them back around his waist.
"Can we stay like this for a little bit longer?"
Your eyes widened a bit at his request, but none the less, you obeyed. Smiling, you burried your face into the crook of his neck as you enjoyed every second of that peaceful moment.
"Awe~ They're so cute~"
"Sshh, Kushina. They'll notice us."
Your ear twitched at the hushed whispers as you looked up and over to your door in confusion.
"I think they already noticed us..."
"Don't move, you might be over thinking it."
"No we noticed you." Kakashi's voice rung loud and clear throughout the room, his tone holding a pinch of annoyance to it.
Minato breathed a sigh and pushed the door open to reveal himself and Kushina. "I guess there's no hiding our presence now."
Kushina only chuckled.
"H-how long have you guys been there?" You stuttered, fearing the answer.
"Since the beginning." Kushina stated bluntly. "I never knew Kakashi had this much of a soft side to him." She teased, making both you and Kakashi blush in embarrassment.
"It's getting late. I hope your not planning on staying here all night, after all school starts tomorrow and I'm sure your father is wondering where you are." Minato's eyes were glued to Kakashi as he said this. He looked calm enough but his voice had a edge to it that was meant for only Kakashi to sense.
Almost immediately, Kakashi released your arms and stood up from his seat on your bed. "Right, I'll be on my way." He said, heading for the window as he readied himself to jump. "Later."
You, who was constantly switching gazes between Kakashi and Minato, grabbed Kakashi's foot with little effort. He looked down at you in puzzlement.
"Why not try to take the door this time." Your eyes held a glint of amusement as they flickered to Kushina and back. Kushina looked displeased with his antics but kept her mouth shut.
"Have it your way." Giving into your request, he made his way to your door where Minato and Kushina had made an opening for him to pass through. Walking passed the both of them, he walked all the way to your shared house's front door and raised a hand in a gesture of farewell before bidding everyone goodnight, exiting and closing the door behind him in the process.
When Kushina and Minato looked back to you, they was met with your sleeping figure sprawled about on your bed. Smiling to themselves,
