After the meadow, Jazlyn decided to take a nap so that gave me a moment to talk to Angelina about a matter I was wondering about. I found her in the kitchen, putting eggs away.

“Hello, Harry,” she said simply.

“Where’s Niall?”

“He’s getting a bite with Liam and the others.”

“Louis went too?”

She nodded, “I was worried about that too, but Liam promised to keep an eye on Louis.”

I sat down on a chair and rested my arm on the wooden round table. “Angelina, if Jazlyn doesn’t want to be changed into a vampire, would you still do it?”

“You know my rules, Harry.”

“You wouldn’t break it?”

“No,” she sighed. “I can’t change someone unless they agree to join.”

“Correction: You won’t change someone unless they agree to join.”

Angelina shrugged, “It’s a ‘can’t’ and ‘won’t’ situation. If Jazlyn doesn’t agree, then I won’t change her. I can’t do it because it feels wrong to me. It’s that simple.”

“What if she was close to death and unable to speak and she can’t give you an answer?”

“You should make sure she is conscious then so that I can know her answer.”

I rolled my eyes, “Work with me here, Angelina.”

“There’s nothing to work with, Harry. If it’s a ‘yes’ then I will change Jazlyn. If it’s a ‘no’ then I will respect her wishes and let her die like a normal human. I think you should do the same thing too.”

Slumping against the chair, I mumbled, “If only I could change humans to vampires…”

“Too bad you can’t,” Angelina stood up and continued fixing around the kitchen. “That’s my job and my job only.”

“But can’t you just-”

“No.”

“But what if-”

“No, Harry,” she looked back at me. “Jazlyn needs to agree. I’ve never broken this rule before, and I’m not going to do it now, even if it’s for you.”

I stood up, sighing heavily, “It was worth a try.”

“Why haven’t you brought it up with her yet?

“Because I already know what she is going to say about that topic,” I said.

“What if you’re wrong?” Angelina shrugged, “Just ask her. It won’t kill you.”

“But-”

“Don’t start with saying ‘but’, Harry. You should know that a topic like that shouldn’t be pushed to the side. You need to quit avoiding the topic and ask her.”

“She’s going to say no.”

Angelina shrugged, “You can always try convincing her. It’s not going to kill you. Besides, you’re already dead.”

“But-”

“Go or else I will leave you at a mountain ledge.”

With that, I walked out of the kitchen and headed upstairs to the bedroom. Jazlyn was still sleeping so I moved next to her and wrapped my arms around her. She moaned softly and snuggled closer to me. I studied her face, memorizing every feature that it carried. I wanted to see her face every time my eyes were closed. I lightly kissed her on the forehead and laid down with her, not wanting to let her go.

My mind started to wonder what it would be like if Jazlyn was a vampire. We would be together forever, never aging or having to worry. She wouldn’t be fragile. Jazlyn would be strong and I wouldn’t need to protect her so much. I want to be with her forever, does she?

She’s a traitor!”

We have to destroy her!”

She can ruin everything we ever lived for!”

Get rid of her!”

I looked at my family shouting these things. All of them were angry and had hatred written all over their faces. We were all in a circle in front of a large bonfire. The cold was cold and the fog that surrounded the trees around us was just as thick as the tension around this circle.

I looked to my left to see Angelina. All of the eyes were filled with rage and they were all on her. Angelina’s face was grim as she listened to each of us shouting comments.

If we want to end this, we end her now!” shouted Liam.

I started to wonder if they were talking about Angelina. She was the only one who didn’t say a word. She remained silent, listening to how her own coven wants to have her destroyed. Angelina walked towards me. The light the flames provided made her eyes seem darker, colder.

Strongly, she said, “We have to protect the family, Harry.”

Yes, I know.”

Will you do whatever it takes to protect each other?”

Of course, I will.”

Angelina stepped away and from the other side of the bonfire was Jazlyn. Louis and Niall gripped tightly to her arms. Angelina glanced back at me, “We will protect our family.”

I felt a lump in my throat that felt like it was burning. “I understand,” I croaked.

She turned back to Louis and Niall and with a single nod. Louis grabbed Jazlyn by her head while Niall held her.

Jazlyn cringed and a sob came out of her. She looked at me with pleading eyes, “Harry.” There were tears running down those cheeks that I loved running my fingers against. “Harry, please, don’t let them do this.”

Within a heartbeat, I tried running over to Jazlyn’s side to help Jazlyn, but Niall and Zayn stopped me. I tried pulling away from their grasps, but they were too strong.

Let me go!”

You said you would protect your family,” Angelina spat at me. “Are you going to break that promise now, Harry?”

I begged, “Angelina, don’t.”

She stood over me, glaring down at me. “Weakling,” Angelina hissed. She looked at Louis and nodded, “Do it.”

Louis, no!” I tried breaking free, even though I knew it was no use. “Louis, don’t!”

Just like that, Louis twisted his hands and snapped Jazlyn’s head. They released me and allowed me to practically crawl to her body. I clutched tightly onto my love’s lifeless body. My sobs echoed throughout the area.

I looked over at Angelina with eyes full of tears. “Why?”

Angelina removed her hood and stared at me straight in the eyes. “She’s a hunter.”

I sat up and looked over at my left. Jazlyn wasn’t there. Where is she? I quickly got up and looked in all the rooms. No one was in the cottage.

“Jazlyn?!” I shouted in a panic tone. I heard soft voices coming from outside so I followed them. My eyes were on the fire that was within the woods. As I looked farther, I noticed the silhouettes that fit my coven. No, I thought to myself. No, this can’t be happening! I ran towards the fire and skidded to a stop. My eyes searched for Jazlyn and when I found her, I noticed that Louis was right behind her. Quickly, I ran over to him and punched him. I wouldn’t stop punching him. There was no way he could even think about hurting Jazlyn.

“Harry!” Angelina shouted. Niall and Angelina pulled me off Harry. Liam and Zayn were at Louis’s side helping him up, “What the hell has gotten into you?!”

Ignoring her, I grabbed Jazlyn, looking over at her to make sure she wasn’t hurt. “He didn’t hurt you, did he?”

Jazlyn moved my hands away from her face. “What the hell are you talking about? Louis wasn’t going to hurt me.”

I looked at Louis and back at Jazlyn. “Are you sure?”

Louis spat out blood from his mouth. “The hell made you think I was?”

“You were behind her…”

“I was walking to my spot.”

“The fire…”

“It’s a bonfire,” Angelina informed me. “Do you mind explaining to us why you decided to beat up Louis?”

Louis snickered. “Aw, you care about me!”

She glared at him. “You can shut up.”

He winked, “Make me.”

Angelina rolled her eyes and looked back at me. “Explain,” she demanded.

“I thought he was going to hurt Jazlyn!”

“Why would you think that?”

I shrugged, “I think...I think I had a dream that…”

“That what?”

“That Louis killed Jazlyn under your orders because we needed to protect the family,” I sighed, embarrassed.

Angelina rolled her eyes. “Harry, you’re such a idiot sometimes. We would never hurt Jazlyn. You are being melodramatic.”

I glanced over at Louis, “Sorry, Louis. I’ll make it up to you.”

“I know one way you can make it up to me,” Louis grinned and glanced over at Jazlyn.

I hid her behind me. “Don’t even think about it!”

“I’m thinking and I like it.”

Angelina smacked Louis in the back of the head. “Have manners, Louis.” She looked back at me. “Anyway, we were having a little bonfire and stargazing before you showed up and started to beat up Louis. Are you willing to join us?”

“Okay,” I nodded. Everyone moved back to their seats and stayed by the fire.

“Hang on a minute!” Louis stood up. “This isn’t fair! Harry beat me into a pulp and I don’t get some revenge swings?”

“Drink some blood and those bruises will go away,” Angelina waved it off. “Stop whining for once in your life.”

We all broke into small groups talking amongst ourselves. Jazlyn glanced over at me. “So, what was that dream of yours about?”

I turned away, humiliated. “I don’t want to talk about it.”

“Tell me!” she shook my arm playfully. “Please, I want to know.”

Sighing, I leaned towards her so that I can speak more softly. “I had a dream that Angelina and the others found out you were some kind of vampire hunter and they killed you in front of my eyes.”

Her eyes widened. “That’s...that’s a weird dream.”

“I know it is,” I grinned, wrapping my arms around her. “There’s no way it’s true though. You are a horrible fighter.”

She pushed me with a pout on her face. “I’m not that horrible!”

“You’re good, just not good enough to win against our kind. You’re fragile even though you don’t want to admit it.”

“Don’t judge a book by its cover,” she grinned. “I might be stronger than you think.”

I laughed, “Well, until you prove it, there is no way I’m letting you out of my sight. I love you and I’m going to protect the ones I love no matter what it is.”

She smiled and leaned against my shoulder. “I love you too, Harry.”

I was going to lean down and kiss her, but then I was forcefully shoved against the tree across the way. I slammed against the tree hard to a point where it could’ve broken down. Before I could even grasp what was going on, I was slammed against another tree and being choked.

I looked around and noticed that everyone was being held against their will by vampires. The one who held onto my throat, pulled me forward, and made me kneel down. Jazlyn was being held by the hair by one vampire. Everyone else had two vampires on either side of them, except Angelina. Four were holding her down. One stood in front of Angelina, glaring down at her. He was an average height with a built body male that had dirty blonde hair and brown eyes.

“Hello, Angelina. It’s been awhile. I was hoping to see you in different circumstances.”

“Damon, leave us be!” Angelina hissed.

Damon laughed. “You honestly think I’ll leave your coven be when one of them killed two of my own?” He grasped tightly onto Angelina’s cheeks and leaned in close as if he was going to kiss her. I noticed how Niall tensed up and his eyes were blazing at Damon, “In your dreams, Sweetheart.”

He turned around and glared at me. “It was you who killed Mason and Jared, wasn’t it? And all of this killing was because of this girl,” Damon glanced over at Jazlyn. “She’s a beauty, Harry, I’ll give you that, but is she worth your life?”

“You won’t touch her!” I growled.

Damon laughed again, “You think you can give me orders? You’re a fool.” He grinned down at me and at all of us. “Let the fun begin.”
