"Another report came in from her," Murtaugh told his grandson gaining his attention. "What did she say?" Ren immediately asked. "Not much. Just about the where slaves will be auctioned off," Murtaugh answered. "She also said she misses you," Murtaugh adds, Ren's heart clenched. "I miss her too."
Chaol frowned at the new guard, she carried a parcel tucked underneath her arm as she spoke to a messenger. The messenger looked very fishy. After the messenger left, Chaol approached her. "Sending a message so late?" Chaol casually asked her. "Just a late love letter is all, Captain," Y/n, the new guard, replied. "A love letter?" Chaol repeats. "Of course, I have emotions too, Captain," Y/n said. "Goodnight, Captain." She adds, she nods at him then walks away.
After leaving the Captain, Y/n returns to her small bedroom, she opened a small hidden compartment, she pulled out papers of the castle and started to work.

Aedion led the way to the meeting point with Y/n close behind him, Ren was waiting for them, he greeted the general quickly then embraced Y/n tightly, whispering, "I missed you." Into her ear.
The two then entered to start the meeting. "I can't stay for long," Y/n admits. "I have to start my patrol soon, twenty minutes, tops," Ren squeezes her hand tightly. "Do you have it?" Aedion Asked, she pulled out a parcel and handed it over. "This is all I have so far. I'll try to get more when I can. I have to go now, I don't want the Captain to get suspicious."
Y/n returned right on time, Captain was handing out orders for the other guards. "Y/n, you're with me," Chaol said, making Y/n flinch. "Me? Why not Ress or Brullo?" Y/n replied. "I may have handpicked you myself, Y/n, but you are still new and I need to check if you're still up to my standards," Captain said, Y/n clenched her jaw but said nothing.
With one hand on the hilt of his sword, Chaol carefully examined Y/n as she walked a few paces ahead of him. She was well built for a girl, well trained, he's seen her fight during training but other than that, he knows she's a good fighter. But why become a guard when she could have been anything else is the question Chaol never knew the answer to.
"Like what you see, Captain?" Chaol blinked, he never realized he was gazing at her like that until Y/n pointed it out. "I-well," Chaol starts making her snort a short laugh. "And I thought Ress said you couldn't stutter," she chuckled, she stopped walking so she can look at Chaol. Her h/c hair is braided back so it wouldn't get in the way if the wind pushed it, her e/c eyes wouldn't leave Chaol's. "Let's just finish our rounds," Chaol grumbled, continuing on. "Whatever you say, Captain."
"Where did you come from?" Chaol asked her. "Why do you want to know?" Y/n replied. "Curiosity," Chaol replied, and to find out more about her lover. "It doesn't matter where I came from, Captain," Y/n said. "Nobody knows much about you, Y/n. You're always secretive, you hardly say anything to the other guards unless you have a reason to," said Chaol, Y/n stops to turn to face Chaol again. "I prefer not to spill my entire life to you, or the rest of the King's Guard. And I believe my shift is over so goodnight, Captain." Y/n spat then walked away.
Chaol watched her leave until she was out of sight, Brullo seems to know her the best, he'll speak to Brullo in the morning.

Y/n quietly walked to the meeting point again without the general. He sent a hasty letter to her, demanding that she arrived at the meeting place much earlier than usual. Ren met her outside, he squeezed her hand as he pulled her inside. "Did something happen? Murtaugh?" Y/n frantically asked. "Worse," Ren said, the minute she walked in she saw the newcomer. "Shit."
Chaol scoffed. "Why am I not surprised?" Chaol asked, leaning into his seat. "Captain," Y/n starts, Aedion waved her off. "I already explained to him," Aedion told her. "And I am not very pleased you hid this from my right under my nose," Chaol adds. "At least she was clever enough to hide it from you," Ren defends, tightening his grip on her hand. Chaol's eyes lingered on the interlocked hands. "You asked me where I came from," Y/n quietly started. "I lived in Perranth, I am a lady of Perranth. I have no claim to Perranth whatsoever, I was taken in by Lord and Lady Lochan when I was young."
Chaol started to digest the new information, the new Lord of Perranth loyally serves for the King of Adarlan without question. Y/n explained that she was with Ren and his family the night Aelin's family was murdered and when Aelin went missing, she and Ren had escaped but Ren lost almost everything that night.
Y/n couldn't return to Perranth either, not when she found out her adoptive father was executed by her adoptive uncle and her adoptive sister was also missing. She had many friends in Perranth, they all told her, her sister was nowhere to be seen.
Later that night, Chaol and Y/n returned back to the castle. Y/n immediately returned to her bedroom, she started to work on another layout of the castle. Chaol helped her whenever he could, they continued working and meeting up with Ren, Aedion, and Murtaugh when they could.
They stuck together and ran together when he placed a collar around Dorian's neck. "We'll free him, Captain. We will free him and Aedion," Y/n said. "For now, we need to stay low and plan."
