You quietly watched Chaol take care of Kato by himself. You wanted to talk to Chaol one last time, just once to say what you wanted to say before you lost your life. Celeana, no, Aelin saved Kato's life but not yours. Your son's life was more important than your own, even if it hurt Chaol. You've seen Chaol angry before, but hearing your death was the angriest you've ever seen him.

You followed Chaol, Kato, and Nesryn to the southern continent, you watched Chaol slowly fall in love with Yrene Towers, you watched him slowly forget about you. One night, though, Chaol woke up and reached over to the other side, seeking for you only to remember you were dead.

What he didn't know was you were laying next to him, so you laid your head on his chest, he felt nothing but air brushing against his chest making him wonder if the southern continent air was making its way through the shut window.

His hand went up to his neck where his and your wedding rings laid, his thumb gently brushed against your wedding ring, and a single tear ran down his cheek. "I miss you, Y/n."

Tears silently ran down your cheek too, Chaol felt more air touching his chest but thought nothing of it. He released the necklace and went back to sleep. You leaned up and kissed his cheek softly, whispering, "I miss you too, Chaol Westfall." Chaol's eyes flickered open and he looked around to see nothing before he even opened his eyes you were gone.

Eventually, Chaol was madly in love with Yrene, Kato was happy to have a new mother figure but still missed you dearly. You sat in an armchair beside the bed Kato slept on, your fingers gently going through his chestnut hair. He's grown so much since the last time you've seen him, you can tell he's going to look a lot like his father. You were about to check on Chaol when you heard a faint, "Mother?" You looked back to see Kato furiously rubbing his e/c eyes, and blinking right in your direction. "Is that you?" Kato asked, he slid out of bed and walked over to you, hand outstretched but by the time he reached you, you disappeared.

The next morning, Kato told his father what he saw. "It's not possible, Kato," Chaol told his son. "But, Father! I know what I saw!" Kato protested, you sat on the floor, legs crossed. "I'm not crazy!" Kato protested, Kato looked around the room and spotted you. "There she is!" Kato said, pointing at you. Chaol sighs, he looks at where Kato is pointing but saw nothing. "I don't see anything but the ground, Kato," said Chaol. "How can you not see Mother?!" Kato demands. "She's there, I swear it!" Chaol stares at where you sat, you gave him a sad smile then slowly started to fade away. "Wait! Mother!" Kato shouts. "Tell your father I said 'goodbye', Kato." You softly said, then you fully disappeared, leaving behind a small painting you kept with you. Even after you died.

Kato picked it up, it was a painting of you, Chaol, and Kato when Kato was a baby. On the back of the painting was something scribbled on, "I may no longer be part of your life but I am part of your heart." -Mother. Kato handed it to Chaol, and he stared at it. "Goodbye, Y/n."
