In America there is a small town which no ones knows about other then a small handful of people, called Ashgrove. No one knows anything about it and some people even says it doesn't exist, and you are probably one of those very people. I however knows it exists and I will key you in on the important stuff of this particular, boring town.
You see a while back in 2012 a lot of stuff was happening in our small town. New Mayors, getting new people on the police force, a doctor or two getting sued, Charlie Banks cheating on his wife with the old mayor but those things are not in the slightest bit interesting or important. No. You see the most important thing that happened in that year was the killings. Yes, you heard me correctly- killings. Now I'm not going to tell you EVERYTHING about it, that'll just ruin the story. I'm just going to tell you the story that everyone knows.
On the 7th of March 2012 a family was found dead in their home. The baby was shot, the daughter was dead on the kitchen floor with a bullet through her head and the mother was hung up in the kitchen with her heart pulled up and the word 'traitor' on the wall beside her done by shootings. It took a while to find the husband though and when they did he was up in the attic with all of his insides hanging out. He had his hands open and on them were both of his eyes and a message that said "I SEE YOU" which was burned into his palms.
The police tried to find the killer during the course of several months but it was very difficult as the killer left nothing behind for them to go on, also they were endangering many lives as the deaths increased in both numbers and levels of gruesomeness. The police stopped though when it reached a certain level and slowly the killings stopped along with the somewhat witty messages. The last message that the police was given was in a classroom where the children and the teacher were found dead, on the whiteboard the killer wrote 'I didn't ask to play hide and seek'. That was it. And then it stopped and the town was back being it's boring self. However that soon changed as the 1st of September 2015 rolled in, and this is where our real story starts. On this very day, at the local school with a platinum blonde haired and blue eyed girl that went by the name Kelsey Melmore.
~~~
The day had clouds that thickened over the town making it darker then it was. Rolls of thunder were heard giving a warning that rain was soon to be unleashed on the population, the wind picked up and blew the fallen coloured leaves in the direction it wanted them to go as if it was the Pied Piper and they were the rats making the sound of a wretched ghost as it did so.
But despite the current weather that the small town was facing, Ashgrove High continued to let their students have their lunch time along with the small football match that was going on thus making the students of both 11.7 and 11.8 very happy. You see it was a tradition for the kids of this particular year group to do a season of Football as every class had a set of athletic members along with a competitive side. That is everyone but Kelsey Melmore.
Kelsey was a quiet girl who didn't mind about what goes on as long as it doesn't affect her and her friends in a negative way. Not only is she not competitive but she so happens to be a shy and timid thing, so it was quite shocking that she managed to befriend a loud girl who enjoys a gossip along with another girl who was known to be talkative and energetic. And these two friends of her's were May Keystring and Jessica Mill, one the daughter of a cop, the other apart of the popular gang.
Kelsey sat where she was now, on a small hill where the fresh, emerald grass grew. The cup of hot chocolate she had bought keeping her warm despite the cold weather that was bestow on to the town due to it being fall. She took a sip of the lovely drink as her crystal, blue eyes followed the vicious match that was playing out below her. The ball flew around the pitch like a comet, getting passed from player to player and never staying in one spot. Cries of 'I'm open!' and 'pass!' could be heard over the loud gale as one particular blonde player travelled up the field with the ball tamed at his feet.
"Go Stefan!" Screamed out Jessica, giving Kelsey a heart attack. "Win for us!"
"Jess, you scared the living day lights out of me!"
"I did? Oh sorry." She apologized as she took a seat beside of her friend. Jessica had long, pin straight brown hair that she had thrown up in a ponytail. Her freckles which were scattered across her nose stood out on her pale skin and made her hazel brown eyes dance with warmth and energy, reflecting her personality well. "It's just I never go to these things and I want to let Stefi know I'm here."
"Of course, after all you do blend into the background." Kelsey said jokingly, rolling her eyes.
Jessica just scoffed at her comment. "I do not blend in! Blending in is boring!" And quite impossible for Jessica as she was wearing a neon orange shirt that had a black smiley face on it along with a pair of black shorts that so happen to have neon orange stitching done on the sides. Of course this outfit was bought by her mother."So, where's May?"
Kelsey shrugged, having no clue about the cop's daughter's whereabouts. "She said she was going to wait for Lidia at someplace but I'm not sure." She explained, mentioning their other friend. Lidia was like Kelsey in some ways, quiet and shy but when she opens up she's really friendly and kind.
"Well they better hurry up then." Huffed Jessica. "Kyle just got us penalty and now we're going to lose!"
"No we're not." Kelsey smiled at how her friend was so clueless when it came to soccer. Every other sport she knows like the back of her hand, but soccer.
"Huh?"
"We get a chance to score without 11.8 getting in our way, that's what a penalty is." Explained Kelsey with a laugh.
"Oh. Right. That makes so much sense now." She said as she leaned back, resting her head on Kelsey's shoulder.
Kelsey just chuckled and patted her friend's head. "Oh Jessica." She said with a small shake of her head.
They continued to watch the game as the weather steadily grew worse with the wind bending the trees at it's will while thunder continued to be heard, sounding like firecrackers going off. But the game continued on and nothing could stop them, but the announcement that came from the principal.
"Please evacuate to your homerooms immediately and do not leave under any circumstances. You will stay there until it is considered safe to do so and when your teachers give you their permission, that is all. Thank you. " The speakers turned off leaving the students to be consumed by their silence and shock. It was very rare that the principal makes any sort of announcements and it was even more rare that it was for them to stay inside their classrooms until it was considered safe.
"Well what are we all waiting for? Let's go!" Shouted out Jessica as she turned heel and walked up the hill to get back to the class as Kelsey ran after her.
The hallways were jam pack with students getting back to their classes, questions were fired from left and right about what's going on but no answers were heard except one- it's a prank.
"Nicholas, what sort of prank is this?!" Snapped Earl Penser who was one of the populars. He glared at the brown haired and green eyed prankster who just walked in.
"It's not a prank." He said as he sat on his desk.
"Yeah right." Scoffed Earl.
"Has anyone seen May and Lidia?" Asked Kelsey as she looked around the classroom not seeing the familiar curly hair or the small figure of her friends. Her stomach tied itself in knots as more and more of her class entered but none of them were her friends. Everyone shook their heads at her question making her even more worried.
"I'm pretty sure they'll be fine." Said Jessica. "They're probably on their way now."
"Hopefully... I wonder what's going on." Kelsey chewed on her lip as she repeatedly looked at the door, waiting for her friends to come.
"I'm pretty sure it's not that bad." Commented Stefan as he walks over and casually drapes his arm over Jessica. His golden blonde hair glimmers in the light as his stone, grey eyes looked at Jessica lovingly.
"So it is a prank!"
Stefan rolled his eyes at Jessica's remark before saying the already repeated statement, "it's not a prank, honest. Plus we would never get the principal to go along with it if it was."
"But you gotta admit it would be pretty great if we could." Stated a girl with dark red hair and dark blue eyes. She walked over to them and leaned casually on one of the desks. Nicholas walked over to them as well, nodding at what she had said.
"You're right, but really Anna? Would it really work if we get the principal involved?"
"Well 'pal' is in the name so it really should've." She said with a grin.
"Face it though, he would only do it if you bribe him with candy." Said Jessica with a laugh making Kelsey chuckle as well, trying hard not to be too worried of their current situation.
"I swear to god, that girl does not want to be found!" Said May, announcing her presence as she walked into the classroom. Kelsey sighed, but only half of herself felt relieved about seeing the dark skinned and curly haired girl that was her best friend. Something bad happened to Lidia, she could almost feel it in the pit of her stomach that continued to twist into knots as if a box full of snakes were having a wrestling match. "I've been looking around for her since the start of lunch and she is literally nowhere!" Complained May as she sat down on a seat near their group. "If she's making out with Jeremy again, I will murder her."
"What's wrong with Jeremy?" Asked Anna with a raised eyebrow.
"Well he's just... Jeremy!" Said May getting all flustered.
"Yes, he's Jeremy. That's what's wrong with him. It makes so much sense." Said Nicholas with sarcasm dripping in his voice.
"Oh shut up!"
They continued to chat as rain poured itself from the heavens, hitting the glass with such force that it seemed like pebbles were being thrown at them. Flashes of lightning appeared in the distance as if it was trying to break the sky apart while the continous rolls of thunder played as a warning for the bolt of electricity. Soon a young, fidgety teacher came in that was most definitely not their homeroom teacher. His face was of absolute pure distress but he took the register rather calmly without any interruptions until he came across a particular name.
"Lidia Heavens?"
Instantly a cracked of lightning was heard along with a loud bang that was not thunder or rain. Everyone turned to look at the where noise came to see a figure in black track pants with a black hoodie which was drawn to hide the person's hair while a mask did the same job for his or her's face. The mask was black with white spray paint circling the eye holes making it look quite eerie as the person stood in front of the window, staring inside the classroom. Everyone held their breath as they watched the person slowly drag a bloodied body into sight. The person propped the mangled body up so it seemed like it was standing, her eyelids seemed to be stapled shut while her face was in a grin as there were two slits beside her mouth. Her head was dripping with blood but from what seemed to be unknown as the pair of hands were sewed onto her head to appear like ears while multiple stab wounds circled her forehead.
The person in the hoodie took out a spray can and sprayed the words 'I'm Here' in a dark red colour which ran down the already wet window. The person then pulled out a gun and shot the window making it shatter and causing people to find their voices to scream. Everyone rushed to the far side of the room which sadly happened to be away from the door. They watched in fear and horror as the person threw in the body of Lidia. The person, clambered through the window and stepped on the back of the body causing Kelsey to flinch. She felt tears slide down her cheeks in both terror and depression. Terror of the current situation as some killer was walking to them and there was a huge chance that they could all die and depression for her friend that is probably in heaven already.
Her heart thump against her chest, her body shook with nerves and fear as the killer continued to walk towards the class. Waving the gun around which was making them all push themselves up against the wall as if they could somehow sink through it and out of the situation. Kelsey felt like she was going to break down at that moment as the killer began heading for her direction. She tried hard to shrink back in the crowd but couldn't find the power in her legs to move. She stood there, paralyzed with fear as the killer stopped and lift the gun aiming at her head.
Kelsey's breaths came out shaky as more tears streamed down her face. Slowly she started to shake her head, not wanting to accept this. Not wanting to accept the fact that this is possibly the end of her short fifteen years. But then Nicholas pushed her behind him making feel only a little grateful that she wasn't inline with the gun but guilty as Nicholas would have to take her place in death.
"What do you want?" Demanded Nicholas, his voice shaky and small. "What do you want?!" He yelled out loudly but the fear was still evident.
The killer looked at him and cocked it's head to the side, as if he or she was amused about the outcome of this. The killer then put the gun away and walked slowly towards them. Kelsey could see Nicholas shake slightly but he held his position until the killer gripped his shirt and threw him into the sea of desks and chairs. Kelsey let out a small cry and covered her mouth as the person then shoved her up against the wall with a knife pressed to her neck. The tears began to flow down her face like a waterfall as the knife slowly pressed a bit deeper into her throat causing little beads of blood to appear. The blood left behind it's scarlet trail on her neck as it travelled down, but before more scarlet tracks can be made the killer drew the knife away so quickly it was as if it was electrocuted. Soon enough the killer turned heel and ran towards to the window, jumping out of it and into the pouring afternoon as sirens pierced through the storm, announcing that the police were here.
"Please tell me this is a dream." Whispered May as she stared at the body of what was once Lidia Heavens
