The time had come for us in the Eighth to go to Central. I dressed into my official fatigues. As I placed my last button I glanced in the mirror in my room. I fixed my sleeves and nodded to myself before turning away from the reflection. I made my way out the door and down the hall to the office where Obi, Shinra, Hinawa, and Tamaki stood waiting for me.
We all headed out saying a brief goodbye to Maki and Sister Iris. I followed behind Obi while holding my hat. I looked back at company eight's church. I sighed and waited for Shinra and Tamaki to get in the back before I entered. We all settled into silence as we made our way to Central.
Shinra leaned against the door and asked after a while, "Is it normal to summon all the Captains?"
"This is the first time I encountered anything like this since I became the commander of the Eighth," Obi Admitted while looking ahead, "You can tell that they are taking this situation seriously."
"Artificial Infernals, the white-clad, and the bugs," I shivered and peered out the window, "I feel like we are getting closer to the truth."
"I agree," Obi sighed and tipped his hat further on his head.
I watched buildings pass by the window of the car. The others made small talk as we got closer and closer to Amaterasu. I felt my scar start to tingle and itch. I ignored the feeling, having bigger things to deal with at the moment.
Tamaki, Shinra, And Obi got out of the car as we pulled up to the sidewalk that would lead into Holy Sol Temple where the meeting would take place in the main cathedral. I had made an excuse like nerves would getting to me and that I would need a minute. The others had agreed to let me stay with Hinawa as he found a parking place.
It took a moment but Hinawa found a place. He pulled the car in and turned it off. His gaze peered at me in the rearview mirror.
"Talk," Hinawa commanded.
"I-Its nothing," I nervously laugh and opened the door to the car before pausing to say, "It's my scar from the bug. It started acting up a little while ago."
He nodded and suggested, "Maybe it because of your nerves."
"I hope so," I murmured as I got out and put on my Military hat.
I met up with Obi, Shinra, Tamaki, and a new person I had yet to meet yet. The woman was beautiful in her own right as she spoke with the others. Her gaze turned to me before turning away to suggest that we should get to the meeting.
We all walked together to the Holy Sol Temple cathedral. I walked more slowly than the others. I looked over the building and the intricate work woven into the pillars and walls. As I entered I took off my hat and tucked it underneath my arm. My gaze fluttered over Karim.
"Thanks for the help you giving in the past few days, in the past," He thanked Shinra, who thanked him in return, and then turned his gaze to me, "I'm sorry I haven't got to contact you since..."
"It's no problem," I smiled warmly and waved a hand, "I hope you are doing well."
He nodded and admitted, "I've had a lot of paperwork."
I chuckled as Obi opened the main door and entered. I looked around the cathedral. All the Captains had made it. Karim walked over to Captain Burns and took a seat in the pew behind him. I followed after Obi and ducked my head.
"Captain of the seventh who doesn't show up that often is even here," Obi commented as he slid into a pew.
"He's famous for being the strongest fire soldier..." Shinra added.
I looked up and met a unique gaze who stared at Shinra and I.
He probably heard them talking about him...
"Is something Interesting going on, you little brat?" His comment had been made towards Shinra who stammered out a quick sorry as another person seemed to calm him, "So annoying..."
While I was distracted Raffles the Third had entered and taken a seat. I didn't bow my head or tent my hands as I looked him on. The Captain of Company Seven slammed himself into the pew and looked about in boredom as he put his feet up on the back of a pew. I noticed some gazes had turned towards myself and the Captain of the Seventh.
"Fire Captains are all it would seem," The elder man's voice was rough with age as he spoke, "Let us begin the emergency conference."
I heard Shinra whisper, "He sounds so grateful."
"Head of Tokyo Empire's Military and The Fire Hall has already stated this, but it would seem that someone from the shadows is threatening this Empire..." Raffle's voice had trailed off, "The white-clad, the Evangelist, and bugs that can make artificial Infernals... I have seen these traits in many reports. Their actions are blasphemy in the face of our Sun God."
The older man took a breath before continuing, "All Fire Companies Of the Fire Force. Treat these enemies as Heretics and move to eradicate them."
"Is there anyone who disagrees?" A person next to the Emporer asked out loud.
"What is this about a Sun God? How boring..."
The same man beside the Emporer became pissed and shouted, "You are in the presence of the Holy Emporer Himself!"
"Benimaru Shinmon!" I recognized Captain Honda's deep voice from behind me, "Your rudeness is over the line! Apologize to the Emporer!"
"It's Shinmon Benimaru," Benimaru corrected, "I don't like my name being said backward, so get it right."
A male voice that sounded like it was in a bucket came from behind me to my right, "...He's an original country Idealist..."
"Us from the seventh are just a bunch of Idiots from the vigilant core..." Benimaru crossed his arms, " and I don't remember ever swearing an Oath to your God or your Empire,"
I watched as Benimaru moved out of the pew and started walking towards the exit.
"Us at the seventh are going to do as we have always done," His voice echoed in the cathedral, "What we wanted."
"Now wait a minute Benimaru!" Honda's voice shouted.
"Leave them," The Emperor waved a hand as he spoke, "In short, We need to be united to fight this enemy."
My attention span rang short. They started talking about Adolla Burst. I listened half-heartedly. Raffles was talking to Shinra about his flame and answering any questions he had.
Adolla Burst had made me think about the bugs for some reason. My scar had tingled under my clothes. I took my hand and placed it on my clothes. My heart thumped in my chest and an image took over my mind.
Black flames, skeletons, and an empty grey sky were all that I could see. I turned slowly and looked as far as I could. Nothing but flames. I took a slow breath in and released it.
"(F/N)!"
I gasped and I was suddenly back in the temple's cathedral, "W-wh, Um.. yes?"
"You survived an attack from a bug just as Nataku Son," Raffles inquired.
"Yes," I answered and got my composer, "I awoke the day after. All I have to show from being bitten is a burn scar on my hip where the vial Rekka had slipped into my turn-out gear broke."
"What about your third-gen abilities?"
I frowned as I spoke, "I woke up to find I was a third-gen. I, in the best sense, learned quickly to adapt to my new abilities but there is still a lot I don't know about them."
"If any new details come to you," Raffles demanded, "Be sure to report them immediately."
"Yes sir,"
The rest of the meeting went about without interruptions. I fidgeted in my spot, waiting to get out of there, but was stuck listening to them finish off the meeting. Shinra tugged my sleeve and asked what was wrong. I said nothing in return. I didn't want to walls to hear.
We were dismissed finally after another twenty minutes. I pushed past Karim as he tried to talk with me. I slung open the doors and marched outside quickly. I took a deep breath of air that seemed like i had gone without since i was in that hell. I slowed my pace as i headed for Hinawa's car.
What did this mean for me?
