🗣️ "D-don't worry, guys. W-we'll find a way out of th-this," Kael said in a nervous voice.
All odds were against them. They had left the Flame Canyon before the goblins could reveal any information regarding the infected. As far as Kael was concerned, the only way to defeat the eye-invaders was to strike them with an object connected to their past. Unbeknownst to him, this wasn't the reason they could defeat the previous one. But there was no opportunity to experiment in a moment like this. They needed a battle plan.
Kael knew his survival depended on it. While a single eye-invader wouldn't scare him as much, the sheer number of them now did. He had to overcome his natural fear and take a leadership role quickly.
🗣️ "Stay close, everyone. We'll do better as a group than fighting individually."
👻 "Fighting!? You really plan on fighting these monsters!?"
The first one leaped forward—a humanoid figure. Kael, who was nearest, quickly crouched and performed a leg sweep, knocking it over. Two goblin invaders followed shortly after. To everyone's surprise, it was Teresa who took the lead this time. Seemingly agreeing to an unspoken truce, she dashed forward at top speed, punching both goblins in the head simultaneously and knocking them down.
As she finished, the humanoid invader Kael had knocked down got back up, completely unaffected. It was soon joined by the other three eye-invaders. Connor decided to distract the ghost invader, using its ability to float to lure it into a high-speed, cartoonish chase.
The remaining two goblins and the humanoid invader encircled the group. The humanoid took the front, with the goblins on either side.
🗣️ "You two brothers (🐺🦊), take the one on the right. You two vampires (🍅🐸), the one on the left. Us leaders (🗣️🍒) will handle the humanoid!"
Meanwhile, Connor flew back, still chased by the infected ghost. As he passed through the center of the battlefield, the ghost's sudden lunge divided Kael and Teresa, forcing Teresa to team up with the ex-orc.
The humanoid invader Kael was fighting managed to push him down. As it leaped to attack, Kael raised his legs, stopping it mid-air, and kicked it toward Teresa's side.
The battle shifted significantly, splitting the group into two sides: Teresa's (🐸🍒) and the main group (🗣️🐺🦊🍅). The main group was too preoccupied with their attackers—two goblins and a vampire invader—to notice Teresa's actions.
Out of the forest emerged another humanoid invader, heading straight for Teresa's side. She glanced at the main group, saw they were distracted, and made a decision. If she wanted freedom from The Black Crocodile's power, there was only one way out.
She picked up a sharp stone from the ground and moved toward the ex-orc. As he turned to look at her, he suddenly felt a sharp pain in his stomach. It wasn't the eye-invader. It was Teresa.
As the ex-orc struggled to process what had happened, he saw the new invader arrive and Teresa running away. The initial humanoid invader seized the moment, driving its claws through the ex-orc's back. It was an infected werewolf.
The ex-orc coughed blood and collapsed. The werewolf removed one of its many eyes, placing it into the ex-orc's open wound. As his vision blurred, he saw Teresa far from danger, still running. His body began turning black, and countless eyes grew from every corner of it.
Kael finally turned his head to see Teresa's side. He saw the ex-orc on the ground, along with two humanoid and one goblin invader. Assuming the worst, he concluded that both Teresa and the ex-orc were now infected.
Andrew, noticing a sharp stick on the ground, struck the infected vampire on their side. The invader collapsed but began convulsing violently. It was well-known that physical attacks could only slow eye-invaders, not kill them. Kael knew what had to be done.
🗣️ "Everyone, let's go—run away!"
He tossed multiberries from his pouch to each member of the group. They all knew what to do with them.
