Derek POV

You opened your eyes to only be blinded by the bright lights in the room. You blinked a few more times before looking around the room to see Gustave in his usual spot. He heard the movement you made in the bed and got up from his chair and walked over to you while carrying a clipboard

Doc: How'd you sleep?

Derek: Like a baby in a car, what happened?

Doc: We'll after the explosion happened, you and Mark were both relocated to the nearest hospital. There they did their best to treat your wounds until we came to pick you up. I'll try to keep the details brief, but you should be thankful to Elena for the gear she gave you. It's the only reason why you and Mark are still breathing.

He lifted a paper over the folder and looked at another sheet

Doc: I'd keep it short but... you have a minor skull fracture, minor concussion somehow, 3 bruised ribs, your left forearm is fractured, and you are covered in cuts and bruises.

Derek: So... how long till I'm out?

Doc: Safe to say you're gonna be out of commission for a couple months.

Derek: Well this is just great... how bad was it there?

Doc: The stage was destroyed but besides that, the blast radius wasn't large. You and Mark were the only two caught by the blast.

Derek: That's a relief atleast.

Doc: Tell me about it, you had the girls worried sick. Honestly got my own migraine after having them swing by every 30 minutes asking, "how are they" and then proceeding to ask 30 more questions before saying they can't be in this room anymore because their anxiety is going through the roof. Ava accidentally kicked the glass sliding door down the hall because she ran out.

Derek: That... sounds like them.

Doc: And since they're youre responsibility, you're paying for it.

Derek: Gustave, come on man, we're buddies.

Doc: I know, I just tried to play a simple joke.

Derek: Gustave, never make a bad joke like that again.

Hereford Base; Harry's Office

You opened the door to Harry's office and sat down in a seat across from him. He leaned back in his chair and put his fingers together

Harry: How have you been feeling lately Derek?

Derek: A lot better than two months ago that's for sure.

Harry: Good, so what is it that you needed?

Derek: Just something small, more the less thinking about relocating Task Force 052.

Harry: Oh? And where would you want to be relocated to?

Derek: That black mask base that was abandoned in Missouri. Place is perfect to have our own little base to freelance work.

Harry: Why do you wish to freelance?

Derek: There hasn't been a big threat to Rainbow ever since Talons black mask group crumbled. Rainbow has no need having a Task Force pulled to the side. With this base, we'd be able to work throughout the U.S.

Harry: And if a threat ever arises?

Derek: We'd still be dedicated to Rainbow. So once 052 is called upon again, we'll be ready.

He thought for a second before placing his hands on his desk and standing up

Harry: Alright, we'll go into details later about what you'll need for renovations after you speak to each of your members on their input.

Derek: Yes sir, I'll let you know what the final decision is.

Hereford Base; Male Lounge

You sat down in a chair and took a sip of your coffee as your squad walked through the door

Demo: I'm telling you, this is the one.

Patch: You've said that about the past 5 girls you've talked to.

Derek: Did I miss a conversation?

Patch: You missed Robert somehow going on 5 dates.

Demo: Sometimes things just don't workout.

Patch: Yea? It's crazy considering you're terrible at answering the very important question, "What do you do for a living?"

Demo: My answers weren't that bad.

Patch: One of your answers was a used car salesmen. Hell, you even told a girl your name was John Mactavish.

Demo: It was cool.

Patch: She played video games for a living dumbass.

Derek: Robert, how are you the cockiest but also the worst when it comes to women.

Demo: Well you know how you usually have debates in your head while you shower?

Derek: Yea?

Demo: Well see in that instance, I'm still losing them. I contradict myself halfway through a shower debate.

Derek: I question so much about your mental well-being.

Patch: So how're your injuries coming along?

Derek: Fine, only issues I'm still having is a bit of joint pain but, that'll go away soon.

Demo: Gramps.

Patch: So what did you need to talk about?

Derek: *clears throat* Well, with the decrease in white mask activity, there really is no need for a task force to be set here in Rainbow. So, I was thinking, why don't we relocate for the time being. We'll still be a task force dedicated to rainbow, but until a major threat arises, how about taking up free lancing.

Patch: That's an awfully big jump that you want to take, have you even talked to Harry about it?

Derek: I've already had this talk with him the day prior. We discussed the old black mask base in Missouri. Now if the entire team accepts this choice, then we can remodel the base and move to there.

Mickey: I have no problem with it.

Bulldog: Question is, would Omaha also be a part of our departure?

Derek: They're under my wing. So yes, they would. If there's no objections, I'll go and see Harry to tell him to start renovations.

Patch: What renovations would you be thinking?

Derek: The usual, Kitchen, Bunks, Wash room, Armory, Vehicle Depot, Medical Wing, Storage, gym, and most importantly, Security.

Patch: So what you're saying is... I'd get my own office.

Derek: Yes, you'll have your own office.

Patch: Awesome..

Derek: We'll also have to have our own responsibilities. It'd be our own base, so if Franklin has to run his own office, the rest of you have to play your own part aswell.

Bulldog: Fine by me so long as I get to have my own toilet.

NATO: Yea please, for the love of god tell Harry to have a separate bathroom for John. I can't handle walking into the bathroom after he's done and feeling like I inhaled Mustard Gas.

Derek: Sad thing is, that was already on my list of things to consider.

Bulldog: My shits aren't that bad.

Derek: Mate, I was in tears a month ago when I was stuck in my bed healing. That shit passed through my vent.

Bulldog: Alright maybe I should start cutting.

Derek: You don't gotta cut, just stop eating so much junk food.

Bulldog: Yea yea, today marks a special day. Today starts a brand new John.

The room went quiet for a minute before Robert spoke up

Demo: Were you expecting a celebration?

Bulldog: Alittle bit.

Demo: Get the fuck out of here.

2 hours later

Hereford Base; Harry's Office

You sat down in the same chair as before and Harry turned around and walked over to his desk

Harry: So, did you come down to an agreement?

Derek: They would like to go through with it.

Harry: Well, it's good to know you all worked under one mind. I'll start renovations for the base once I can get a team prepared. In the meantime, is there anything of sort that you'd need at that base.

Derek: Well the armory and storage room need to be updated, but besides that all we'd need is bunks, gym, Franklin needs his own office, vehicle depot, showers, kitchen, and security cameras with Proximity alarms.

Harry: I'll keep those things noted, it's going to be a bit before the base will be finished.

Derek: That's fine, there's still a few things we need to get cleared up prior. Starting off with Sean's wedding. His summer wedding plan had to be changed due to everything happening at once, so it's good to have the free time for us to attend and for him to take time off with his family.

Harry: Alright then, I might say it later, but I do want to thank you and your squad for the hard work you put in while being here.

Derek: Same can be said for you aswell Harry, couldn't ask for a better boss.

Dallas, Texas; Sean's Wedding

You stood next to Sean while he played with his hair a bit before turning towards you

Mickey: How do I look?

Derek: Like you're looking too into this.

You moved your fingers through his hair a couple times before placing his hat back on his head and patting him on the shoulder

Derek: You're a marine, either look formal enough to pass or be an absolute crayon eater. You can't be in between.

Mickey: Bro what?

Derek: That's the other thing, don't eat the ring once I hand them over. It's not a ring pop.

Mickey: Do you really think I'm that dumb?

Derek: Sort of, but think about this, you and the boys have a much better look than I do. In my personal opinion, your enlisted dress blues look a lot better than my officer dress blues. Now get out there and make me proud.

He turned around and started walking out and you followed suit. You both reached the alter and you stood next Sean again as the doors down the Aisle opened. You thought for a second about how good of a decision it was to have each task force member be a groomsmen... and then immediately thought of the bad things about that. Your thoughts were proven right after each groomers and bridesmaid walked down the aisle and hearing a low whisper from Robert

Demo: *Whispering* Its crazy knowing this is the first time you locked arms with a girl since high school Mark.

NATO: *Whispering* Oh would you fuck off with that.

Derek: *Whispering* Can the both of you shut up for 5 seconds.

The wedding went on as usual, The maid of honor walked down the Aisle. Shortly after, the flower girl walked out, then Veronica and her father. You noticed Sean get teary eyed when he saw his soon to be wife in her dress, although you had to quickly Backhand Robert for mocking Sean by making sniffle noises. The wedding went on as usual, the two exchanged their vows and you handed over the rings that were stored in your right breast pocket. The two kisses to seal the deal and everybody cheered

Wedding Reception

While Sean and Veronica were out taking pictures, you sat at the bar with Franklin drinking old fashions

Patch: So, got your speech all set up?

Derek: Why do you think I'm at the bar?

Patch: Because you're trying to get drunk before the speech to make it even more embarrassing?

Derek: No, just to loosen up a bit, pretty fuckin nervous. First time speaking in front of a group of people, especially in my uniform with no mask.

Patch: Yea, but this is just close friends and family, doubt they'd brag about it. Plus you have Ashley's husband aswell who's wearing his dress blues. Hell even George busted out his old getup.

Derek: I will admit, George looking pretty fly in that uniform.

Patch: But besides that, I understand the nervousness of having to give a speech to your right hand man's wedding. Hopefully the few drinks will help you be more confident in yourself. You deserve it Lieutenant, this is what the years of service have been building up for.

Derek: Yea, but besides that. It's crazy to know one of us has something even greater to fight for.

Patch: Don't even get me reminded on the fact that there might be a little Sean running around.

Derek: Yea, but he could go to school and talk about how cool is dad and Uncles are.

You looked around and noticed people were starting to eat the food and after some time, Veronica's father walked up and gave his speech. You continued to drink with Franklin while the Maid of Honor spoke. And after some time it was your turn. You drank the rest of your old fashioned and placed the glass back on the table and got up from your chair and headed to the mic near a small stage. You tapped it a few times to gain everyone's attention

Derek: Before I start off my speech, I would first like to introduce myself. My name is Derek Westbrook, and I've known Sean for around 4 years now while doing our profession.

Demo: What's your profession Derek!

Derek: Robert take a second and look at what we're wearing and you tell me.

Demo: Could've just said Basketweaving.

Derek: Besides Robert interrupting, I would also like to thank Mr. and Mrs. Vail for helping out this wedding together, and the bartender Todd for the conversations we've had since this point. And not to mention the bride Veronica, looking beautiful in that dress and George for stepping up and making me feel as though I had a second father. But the reason I am standing here today, is because of Sean. I first met Sean back in 2017 when we were both in basic. And to this day I still don't know how he hasn't changed one bit. Through the roughness of basic, to the combat in D.C., Sean not once changed who he was. He never crumbled under pressure, he still forgot gear on missions, and he would frequently goof around when times weren't calling for it, and somehow he's sitting here today in his uniform with his newly wed wife that even we still don't understand how that happened.

Mickey: You guys just don't have that Marksman charm.

Derek: That's not a charm that's just a black eye you got after not shouldering your weapon right in basic. Now... I'm not really good at giving advice, because I don't have that much experience. But the most I can really say, is to always love each other no matter what, and to always work together in conquering the obstacles you both face along the way, whether it's your own or both. To always bookmark every moment you spend together, and to never stop losing this feeling. Veronica, you have a lot of work cut out for you. I always dealt with half, but now you have to shoulder the responsibility of taking care of this child of a man. And Sean... keep being who you are. Whether it's being a loving husband, an ally to rely on, or even just a regular friend. Never lose touch of yourself. That is what makes you special in your family, and even our family aswell... Congratulations to the both of you once again, and let's see where this future takes the two of you.

You walked away from the microphone and sat back down at the bar with Franklin

Patch: Not bad for someone who doesn't do public speaking.

Derek: I felt like it wasn't the greatest I could've done, but I was mostly winging it.

Patch: True, it wasn't the best. But you still did good for your first time. Now then, shall we?

He passed you a shot of whiskey and you accepted it. You both brought up your glasses and downed the shots before placing them back onto the table.

December 23rd, 2021

Hereford Base; Male Lounge

You took a second to look at the target as you threw your last dart and it hitting the 3. You yelled out in celebration and shook Johns hand for a good match. You walked away from the dart board and sat down at the small bar in the room. Mark (Mute) sat down next to you and the both of you called for Seamus to send over a bottle of Rum and two shot glasses. He did as so and you poured the rum into both shot glasses

Mute: But upsetting that Sean's missin' your 22nd  birthday.

Derek: Ah can't blame him, he's spending his last day in the Bahamas with his wife. He can only experience that once, our birthdays however, that's another story.

Mute: Guess you're right about that.

Derek: So when're you planning on taking your relationship to the next step?

Mute: Unsure, I would love to take it to the next level. Just don't know when and how to do it.

Derek: Take the time and you'll figure it out once it reaches you. See the path before you jump straight towards it.

Mute: Alright Master Oogway.

Derek: Did you just call me a fuckin' turtle?

Mute: That I did.

Derek: Well atleast he's cool.

You felt a tap on your shoulder and turned around to see the female recruits with a wrapped box. Kenzie extended the box out for you to take and you accepted it. You opened the package to reveal a mini plush version of you in your old uniform

Derek: Hey, this guys pretty cute.

Kenzie: We saw it on a website and couldn't turn down the offer. Happy birthday boss.

Derek: Thanks guys, but you didn't have to spend money on me.

Kenzie: First yesrs always the most special, plus you've done a lot for us. least we could do is spend a bit of cash to give you something back in return.

Derek: Well, I do appreciate it.

She held her arms out for a hug and you got up from your seat and accepted it. You hugged the rest of them and sat back down in your seat next to Mark

Kenzie: Try not to drink too much, you gotta train us in the morning.

Derek: I won't, you guys take care now.

They left and you placed the plush on the table and poured another three shot glasses passing one to Mark and placing another next to the plush.

April 23rd, 2022

St Louis, Missouri; 052 HQ

You stood outside of the the newly renovated base in astonishment. The rest of your squad looked just as impressed while Harry stood next to you overlooking his work like a dad who built a shed

Harry: I would say that the sunlight is nice, but how would you like to take a look inside the base?

Derek: You're the tour guide, lead the way.

You walked inside and was surprised again by how lively it felt inside the base. It didn't feel abandoned anymore, it looked more modern and open while still having that base feel. You walked around the ground floor to see the kitchen and lounge area, along with the built in gym, Medical wing, and garage that already had an armored van and your Demon.

You took a look in the basement and noticed the armory along with work benches and an indoor shooting range with the top floor having the showers and bunks.

You walked outside with Harry and headed towards his car that was parked down the trail

Harry: I believe this is where we split paths for the time being.

Derek: Aw don't make it all sentimental, you're gonna make me miss the UK.

Harry: I'm sure you'll get friendly visits from operators who miss you all aswell. Just don't forget about your job. Continue to take care of yourselves and work towards making this world a better place.

You shook his hand one last time before he got in his car and soon drove away from the base. You watched as he car disappeared before turning around and overlooking the base. You let out a relieving sigh and thought about the first job you'll take up

Your thoughts were pushed away after seeing Mark and Franklin run out the front door and wave you over. You started to walked back to the base as the sun began to set, with a new beginning to come in the morning...

*I would just like to finish off this story by saying thank you to everyone who has read this story and some of my other stories that I've sadly had to push back. I've been writing this story since the beginning of Quarantine and it's relieving to finally close this chapter, so that way I can open a new one and hopefully many others. I'm going to try my best to get back into the writing spirit, which will involve side projects that I've been looking forward to doing for awhile now, just couldn't get my hands on due to
