I'm kinda sad that I'm going to be loosing all the comments with this re-publishing thing because I love reading all of your comments but I'm convincing myself it is for the best.
One Year Later
"Two iced Americanos, one iced vanilla latte and one iced cocoa, all large sized please," I ordered at the cashier, already dishing out my credit card to pay for the drinks.
"Two iced Americanos, one vanilla latte and once iced cocoa, all large size," The person behind the cashier, Vernon, repeated.
"Oh make the vanilla latte iced too," I tell him.
"Yeah I know," Vernon said, typing away at the cashier screen, "You've been ordering the same thing for the past year. And almost every day too."
I blink, not knowing what to make of the response and just hand over my credit card to him, watching it as he slides in in the machine and bills my order.
"We'll call your name out when its ready," Vernon says monotonously and I nod heading over to our usual table, which as usual was empty as well.
After a year of hoarding the same table, it seems that everyone else has learned to leave the spot alone for us.
I sit down on one of the chairs at the table for four and place my large tote bag on the empty chair next to mine while I wait for the rest of my friends to arrive for me.
I check my phone to see Soyeon texting me that she and Emily would be arriving in ten more minutes. Apparently their lecturer is still droning on and on.
I check my other message and see that Nana has gotten off from class and is on her way already.
I met Nana at one of my introductory courses to Journalism as my very first day at University last year. Turned out that Nana was also looking to major in Journalism, just like me, and wanted to focus more on sports journalism whereas I didn't have a specific field set in mind. Since we both had the same major, Nana and I ended up having more than half of our classes together and even shared one of the elective classes together too.
Nana was born to a Japanese father and a Korean mother, as controversial as it must have been back in the day, and ended up spending most of her upbringing in Tokyo, where her parents still reside. Yet Nana wasn't just another mixed child, she was special because her mother is a very famous Korean singer from the early 90s and her father is a popular Japanese TV show host.
In fact so famous that when her mother first announced her engagement to a Japanese man, she was pretty much shunned out of the industry for marrying a Japanese man and even faced a massive scandal back in the day. However the Japanese had been far more welcoming an Nana's mother also decided to relocate to Japan.
Of course, the scrutiny got better over time and by the time Nana was actually born, her mother had gotten back in the good graces of the public and its safe to say that Nana spend a decent amount of childhood in the spotlight.
I had obviously known who she was since the moment I saw her sitting in the lecture hall but I definitely did not expect her to approach me first or even start a conversation with someone so ordinary like me. Even more amazingly, I most definitely did not expect her to be so anti-celebrity considering that she is a celeb child herself.
Once the two of us had seemed to break the ice around us, I invited Nana over to eat lunch with Soyeon, Emily and I one day and the rest was history. The four us seemed to have formed a tight knit friendship among us.
"Hey you," I heard a voice speak and look up to see Nana walking towards our table and seating herself in front of me.
"Hey you," I reply back, putting my phone away now that I wasn't alone anymore.
I re-adjust the white headband on my hair and run my fingers through my hair as if I were brushing them.
As if on cue, the barista calls out my name and I look to see my order being completed. I get up from my chair to retrieve the drinks and Nana too gets up help me carry the drinks back to out table.
"Why is it this cold in March?" Nana asked.
"I know right? I didn't think we would be needing our thick sweater anymore so I didn't bring any. I might have to ask my mom to send me some clothes if the temperature remains this down," I say.
Despite being March already, it ended up snowing all day yesterday and now it was so cold that it felt like January weather. I never once thought in my life that I would get to see cherry blossoms and snow in one frame together.
"It was so much warmer in Tokyo," Nana mentions, taking her iced americano while I take my iced vanilla latte. Nana had gone back to her hometown of Tokyo for the spring break while all of us had also returned back to our hometowns.
"I still can't believe we are second year students now," I mention, taking a sip, "I feel like I have more authority now."
"Authority over what?" Nana asks.
"Oh you know, just being able to coerce first years into giving up their seats at the library. Not having to clean up after our sunbaes anymore. We don't need to be as polite anymore either," I list.
"I get it. You're happy not to be at the bottom of the food chain anymore," Nana said and I grinned brightly like a Cheshire Cat.
Nana and I begin to talk about our classes this semester, exchanging our schedules for this year when we both are interrupted with a flyer being shoved right into our faces.
"Hello ladies. You are welcome to BSS's special live performance this weekend at the multi purpose hall in the East Wing."
Both Nana and I look up to a three men standing in front of our tables, all of whom who I remember to loud, enthusiastic and animate.
Hoshi. Seungkwan and Seokmin.
It's a bit hard not to know these three when they have built themselves the reputation of being the most chaotic and loudest people of campus, with one even thinking he is an actual tiger.
"BSS?" Nana said, picking up the flyer.
"It stands for BooSeokSoon," Seokmin explained.
"BooSeokSoon? What is that supposed to mean?"I asked them.
"It's our names," Hoshi explained, "Boo for Boo Seungkwan. Seok for Seokmin and Soon for Soonyoung."
"Soonyoung? Who the hell is Soonyoung?" Nana asked, looking around confused.
"Me. My name is Soonyoung?" Hoshi said and both Nana and I frowned, "Hoshi's just my nickname. My real name is Soonyoung."
"So, will you ladies be there?" Seungkwan asked.
"At the live performance?" Nana asked and Seungkwan nodded.
"Is it free?" Nana asked and Seungkwan nodded once again. "Well, you can expect to at least see me there."
"Great! See you guys around," The trio waved goodbye at us and left.
"Do you think they can even sing?" I asked.
Nana shrugged her shoulders and said, "Who knows. It's a free event. It won't hurt anyone to go."
"Hi. Sorry we're late," A sweet voice interrupted our conversation and both of us look up to see Emily and Soyeon walking in behind, "We had ran into Jun on the way here."
"And let me guess, he and Soyeon started making out," Nana said.
Emily blushed brightly, giving away the answer almost immediately but instead said, "It wasn't that bad."
"It was literally a peck," Soyeon said, glaring at all of us while she slid next to Nana.
Nana snickered and I rolled my eyes, saying, "Please the two of you can't get your tongues out of each other's throat and honestly its a bit sickening to watch my best friend getting her face eaten by a guy who doesn't even speak or blink."
Around the end of last year, in November, Soyeon started dating this Chinese student named Jun who was enrolled at Sebong University through a partner ship with his high school. The two met at a Halloween party last October and hit it off pretty well and one thing led to another and the next thing we know is that Soyeon has a boyfriend.
Although being a year older than us, he treats Soyeon well and seemed to keep her happy, which is all that I really care about. The only problem is, however, is that Jun is extremely quiet. And very mysterious too. He has most definitely warmed up to the rest of us now, since we're always around Soyeon, but I still had no idea what the man is ever thinking. His face is completely unreadable and honestly it gives me goosebumps sometimes thinking how he always maintains a poker face no matter whatever situation he is in.
"Jun does speak!" Soyeon said, "He's just shy to speak to all of you and maybe he would actually speak up if you guys were nicer to him."
"We would be if you would actually give us a chance for us to speak to him instead of just hoarding his face," Nana commented.
The second problem is that both Jun and Soyeon are apparently big on PDA and when I say big, I mean big. Whenever the two are together, they are either making out publicly or are hugging and caressing each other's heads and honestly after a while, it does start to get weird. Especially considering how PDA is literally the most un-Jun thing ever.
"Well at least I have a boyfriend," Soyeon huffed.
"What's that supposed to mean?" Emily asked curiously with her big wide eyes.
"This one here," Soyeon explained, making a show of pointing towards me, "Is too much of a coward to actually even try and get one."
I look at Soyeon both knowingly and confusingly, knowingly because I know who she is talking about but confused because I'm not sure how my non existent love life is related to her's very existent one.
Soyeon only gestured towards the entrance of the coffee shop with her eyes and the rest three of us automatically turn our heads towards it as if we were robots.
First, I was confused as to what Soyeon was referring to but then I saw them walking in, engrossed in their own little conversation, either oblivious or pretending to be oblivious to the attention they are receiving.
I blush almost instantly, unable to control my shyness like Emily and mumble, "That's different."
Choi Seungcheol, Yoon Jeonghan and Hong Joshua.
The most popular guys at Sebong University, with Seungcheol arguably being the most popular from the holy trinity. In fact they were so popular that despite being first year students, they had fourth year students and even students pursing a masters degree lining up to ask them out and to only get rejected in the end. However not only are all three incredibly handsome, they are also at the top of their academics, extremely active in sports, which Jeonghan and Seungcheol playing for the University's soccer team, and also leading in other extracurricular, with Joshua being the Vice President of the student council. They are also very polite and kind, despite coming from loaded families and are sure to help you out if you were ever in trouble. The last time someone this popular attended Sebong University was Seungcheol's own older brother.
Yet the three largely always remain single.
Everyone by now knows that Joshua is very studious and more on the conservative side, compared to his two friends, and would not get himself involved in any relationship if it were bound to be short term and a failure.
Jeonghan, on the other hand, is known to be more of a playboy. It is common knowledge that Yoon Jeonghan will sometimes accept your confession only to play around with you for a short while and then dump you some few weeks later after he had his fun. That never stopped his cunning nature from receiving more and more confessions.
Seungcheol, however, was a different class of his own. Out of the three, Seungcheol has probably received the most confessions and love letters and yet somehow he has always rejected each and every single one of them. Ever since he entered Sebong University, he hasn't dated anyone and people who attend high school with him say that he hasn't been in any relationship since the eleventh grade of high school. Rumor has it that he was madly in love with his high school sweetheart however after she broke up with him and moved to the US, he refused to date anyone else. Apparently he is still in love with her and is waiting for her to come back to Korea so they would start a future together.
Now of course, there have been often talk of him engaging in one night stands but those simply ended at that. Despite everything, Seungcheol to still gets confessions almost daily.
"It's not too different. If I hadn't confessed to Junnie then we wouldn't be dating right now either," Soyeon said.
"Yeah but I can't actually confess to him," I say, stirring my coffee aimlessly with my straw watching as the holy trinity sit down as a table after getting their drinks.
"Why not? Just go up and do it," Soyeon shrugged her shoulders.
"Are you mad?" I say as the same time Nana says, "She'll get rejected on spot with a big badge of humiliation as a memory."
"I think it will be his loss if he rejects you," Emily says and I send her a weak smile. Trust Emily to always say the most comforting things at the right moment.
"But we won't ever find that out if Jia actually never does confess," Soyeon said, her eyes holding a mischievous gleam and her arrogant tone was starting to get under my nerves, "And we probably won't ever because Jia is too much of a scaredy cat to ever even think about confessing."
"Come on. It's just a silly little schoolgirl crush," Nana told Soyeon.
"Yeah. A silly little schoolgirl crush that has had her obsessed for the past year and work as a part time stalker," Soyeon commented and I blush once again.
Normally I would just slide Soyeon's teasing but for some reason it was irking me up today, "And what if I do? You seriously don't think I can do it, can you?"
Soyeon raised an eyebrow, certainly not expecting this response from me and quickly said, "Let's make a bet. If you fail to confess to Seungcheol within a week from today than you're paying for all of my drinks for a month."
"Jia, you seriously can't be stupid enough to actually do this," Nana said but I ignored her.
"And what if I do?" I demand. My ego was on the line now and I wasn't going to back down without a fight.
"Oh my god! You actually are stupid enough to do this," Nana exasperated.
"Then I'll pay for you drinks for the rest of the year," Soyeon said, smirking knowingly.
I watch as Seungcheol smiles at something Jeonghan has just said, as Soyeon's words run over at the back of my head, and continue watching as Seungcheol throws his head back in laughter, his perfectly short cute hair bouncing up and down slightly, his eyes twinkling with happiness and contend and his cheeks squishing itself up as he laughed.
