~Time skip to after the party~
"And I bowed, and he asked me to dance," Drosselmeyer said. Clara and the Equestria Girls were all ears, while Tommy kept playing with his toy soldiers.
"Did you?" Clara asked in wonder and awe.
"I couldn't say no to the king," Drosselmeyer said.
"Tell that to the peasants from the French Revolution," Twilight tried to make a joke to Sunset, who didn't understand.
"You must've felt like a princess," Fluttershy peeped.
"I know," Clara said. "I wish I was there."
Drosselmeyer looked around to make sure they were alone.
"Maybe next time," she said. "You can come with me."
"I'll start packing my bags," Rainbow Dash said, noticing Tommy. "Hey, whatcha up to?"
"Grandfather would never allow it," Clara said.
"Why not?" Rarity asked, but Clara didn't say anything as Drosselmeyer went to the table across the room and picked up a set of wrapped gifts.
"I'm sure he wouldn't object to these," she said, handing Tommy and Clara the gifts. Tommy eagerly started unwrapping his to find toy soldiers in there.
"Sweet," Tommy said, picking up the admiral. "More reinforcements!"
"And this is for you, my dear," Drosselmeyer handed Clara the red box, and she gently opened it and unfolded the tissue, revealing a wooden soldier with a clacking mouth.
"A nutcracker," she breathed.
"A what now?" Rainbow Dash asked. "Oh yeah, he's the guy who comes to li--"
Sunset gave her a swift jab.
"Hey!" Rainbow Dash yelled. "What gives?"
"You can't spoil half the story!" Sunset rolled her eyes.
Clara didn't seem to be listening to them as she picked up the nutcracker and moved its arm, which caused the mouth to open and close.
"He's wonderful," Clara said, hugging Drosselmeyer. "Thank you, aunt Elizabeth!"
"Sure is ugly," Tommy muttered, and Rainbow Dash and Sunset both covered their laughs with coughs.
"On the outside, maybe," Drosselmeyer said. "But on the inside is the heart of a prince."
"Oh, so she gets the spoilers, but I can't?" Rainbow Dash huffed.
"Huh?" Clara looked at her.
"Nothing," Rainbow Dash looked away.
"I can use him to command my army!" Tommy exclaimed, and grabbed the nutcracker.
"Hey!" Clara and Tommy started struggling for control of the nutcracker, and it ended up in Tommy's hand, only one of the arms was limp.
"Sorry," he said.
"You broke it?" Rarity gasped. "Why, you little--"
"Hey, hey," Pinkie nervously giggled. "Sorry, she's a little overdramatic; it's part of the story, Rarity!"
"You're..." Clara huffed, taking back the nutcracker. "Impossible!"
"That's funny," Applejack said. "I say the same thing about Rarity."
"Wha--excuse me?" Rarity raised an eyebrow.
"You'll have to excuse Tommy," Clara said, and everyone looked to see who she was talking to. "He didn't mean to hurt you."
Fluttershy turned and saw Clara talking to the nutcracker.
"She's going insane," Rainbow Dash said. "That is my headcanon and I'm sticking to it."
"How do you know what that is?" Sunset asked.
"Oh... yeah..." Rainbow Dash bit her lip. "Um... I don't know what you're talking about."
Sunset gasped.
"How many fandoms are you in?" she said. "I know I'm not the only fangirl in our friend group!"
"What are you talking about?" Rainbow Dash blushed with embarrassment. "I'm not... a fangirl."
"Whatever," Sunset said. "Only fangirls know what a headcanon is."
Rainbow Dash rolled her eyes but couldn't argue; she was a fangirl. Her first fandom being the Hunger Games.
Clara picked up a strip of fabric and started tying it around the nutcracker, fashioning a makeshift sling. She picked up the wooden soldier, and thought she saw it's eye sparkle with life for a split second.
~Time skip~
Clara was sleeping on the couch. The rest of the Equestria Girls were pretty tired as well. It had been a long night for all of them. It was about midnight, and pretty much all but Pinkie were asleep. She was eagerly waiting for a certain moment. And it was about to happen in five... four... three... two... one...
The clock chimed it's midnight toll, and that's when the movie's magic began to unfold.
Pinkie watched as the mouse hole glowed yellow, emitting streams of yellow magic to fly around many different objects in the room, even swirling around her for a couple seconds before heading over and circling around the nutcracker, just as the mice soldiers went through the mouse hole.
"What's happening?" Sunset rubbed her eyes, then screamed when she saw the rats.
"Why are they in armor?" she cried, waking up the rest of the Equestria Girls.
"I think they're pretty cute," Fluttershy said, then squealed in fright when she saw them smashing the ornaments by the ground. "Hold on, I can handle them."
She cautiously stepped up to the mice.
"Um, excuse me?" she asked. "Do you think you could stop doing this? You know the ornaments belong to someone else."
The mice stared at her.
"You can understand us?" one of them asked.
"Yes, it's my power," Fluttershy said, pointing to her geode.
The mouse turned to another, and they both smirked, jumping on Fluttershy and ripping her necklace off her neck.
"Hey!" she yelled, but she couldn't understand the mice anymore.
Behind her, the yellow sparks of magic circled around the nutcracker, and Twilight screamed when she saw it blink.
"Insolent mice!" it yelled, pulling out its sword and charging after the mice. "I'll save you, fair maiden!"
"It's alive?" Rainbow Dash gasped, then noticed Fluttershy on the ground while the mice taunted her.
"HEY!" she screamed. "I know you can't understand me but CUT IT OUT!"
One of the mice tripped her up.
"OW!" she shouted. "YOU'RE GONNA PAY FOR THAT!"
And sure enough, she used her super speed to confuse the mice.
It was around this time that Clara woke up, and noticed that her nutcracker was missing. She upturned pillows around her and checked the floor.
"You won't even bother to look at the battle?" Applejack muttered, rolling her eyes.
Clara heard a crunching and looked up to see a mouse chomping on cookie.
"Get away from there," she said, knocking the mouse off the arm of the couch. Then she finally turned and saw her nutcracker battling off the mice, with Fluttershy on the ground, cowering in fear, and Rainbow Dash somehow zipping across the room faster than anyone she'd ever seen. Twilight's hands were covered in a magenta hue, and some of the mice were covered in it as well as they flailed in air.
"I must be dreaming," Clara said, shaking her head. She looked at the mouse hole, where a rat with a golden crown and gold staff--with a ruby gem--came out with two bodyguards in front of him. His eyes immediately trekked to the seven girls who seemed to be possessing magic.
But first things first.
He went over to the nutcracker, holding out his staff.
"Even as a nutcracker, you're still a thorn in my side," the Rat King hissed.
"And a thorn to you, I shall remain," the Nutcracker replied, kicking down the box in front of him, smashing the Rat King and his bodyguards.
He turned to Fluttershy.
"Dear maiden, to what do I owe the honor of meeting you?" the Nutcracker asked.
"Uh..." Fluttershy nervously looked to Pinkie. "How does the movie go after the Rat King... you know... gets squished?"
"That doesn't exactly happen," Pinkie nervously twirled her thumbs as the Rat King pushed up the box. The Nutcracker jumped down, brandishing his sword. They circled each other for a moment before the Rat King made the first move and the duel began. But eventually, the Rat King disarmed the Nutcracker and it seemed like the rat would win.
"A rodent vs. a rat, who will win?" Rainbow Dash asked as she kept speeding around the room.
"Ah!" Sunset pointed out. "You're saying the memes!"
"Yeah, yeah, I fangirl!" Rainbow Dash rolled her eyes. "We're being attacked by rodents; this has got to be the strangest thing I've ever been in!"
The Rat King turned his staff into an axe, unaware that Clara was behind him with a vase.
"Not in my house," she threatened. The Rat King turned around, his axe turning back into his staff.
"Meddling human, so proud and tall," the Rat King said, and Applejack realized what was gonna happen before anyone else did. "Let my scepter shrink you small."
"No!" Applejack cried, but both she and Clara were blasted by the staff. Clara dropped the vase in shock as they both shrunk until they were the size of the mice.
"This... is not good," Clara said.
"Are you kidding?" Rainbow Dash laughed. "I'm taller than AJ for once!"
"Then let me help you with that," the Rat King shot a blast at her, and she too shrunk.
"Dang it!" she whined. "Can I be the tall one for once?"
The Rat King then sent blasts to Sunset, Twilight, Rarity, Pinkie, and Fluttershy, who all were tiny now.
He then started creeping up towards Clara.
"Wait a second..." Applejack looked down and saw a familiar necklace she'd nearly forgotten about. When a mouse tried to tackle her, she grabbed it by the wrist and flipped it halfway across the room.
"Not so fearless now," the Rat King said to Clara, who was slowly backing away. The Nutcracker rammed a wooden cart against the Rat King, then gasped when he saw Applejack grab a mouse and use it to knock out a dozen mice surrounding her. The Nutcracker still had his eyes on her when he jumped off the cart, holding out his sword. Clara slowly went behind the Nutcracker as the Rat King's guards held out their spears. He started fighting off the guards, who started cowering in fear, but were pushed away by Rarity's crystals.
The Nutcracker turned to Clara.
"Do you think you could climb the mantel?" he asked her. She looked up at the garland wrapping around the mantel.
"There is no way," she said, then saw the horde of mice coming after her.
"I'm staying down here," she finished, running to the garland and beginning to climb. She watched as the Nutcracker battled a mouse soldier, with the Equestria Girls fighting the army around them using their geode powers... well, Fluttershy was still going after her geode, which had shrunk to fit. She finally snatched it back and put it around her neck, signaling a couple of squirrels to go in and help her out.
A mouse snuck behind the Nutcracker, and he turned around and started fighting that one, noticing the group on his left. And the Equestria Girls were too far away to notice.
The Nutcracker stuck his sword into the grill of the mantel and kicked two mice away from him as the Rat King crept up, his axe ready.
"There's nowhere to run, Nutcracker," he hissed.
Clara surveyed the scene, and it wasn't looking pretty for them. Twilight and Sunset were cornered, Rarity was barely holding up a crystal shield to protect herself, the mice were taking down Applejack before she could use her strength to stop them, and the mice had blocked Rainbow Dash from speeding away. Fluttershy was being chased by several mice.
The Rat King swung his axe at the Nutcracker, whose sword was stuck in the grill as he flipped to the other side of the Rat King. He was left defenseless, backing away as the Rat King and his army crept closer and closer, holding up the Equestria Girls as their prisoners.
"Watch the hair!" Rarity yelled.
"Best bet that it's either boiling oil or execution," Twilight groaned.
"You're not going to get away this time," the Rat King told the Nutcracker. "Unless you'd like to feed the fire."
The Nutcracker jumped and started climbing the mantel, and the Rat King turned to the Equestria Girls.
"Well, well, well," the Rat King said, his breath too close for Sunset's comfort. "So you seven have magical powers. That's obviously a threat to my power. Which means I'll simply have to take your powers away from you, so I can stay as king."
"Okay, now there's more reasons as to why I wanted to burn you alive," Pinkie huffed.
"Soldiers!" the Rat King ordered. "Take these girls to the castle and keep them locked up until I can finish the Nutcracker off. Then we can remove their magic and then kill them."
"I'm sorry, did I ever mention that I DON'T WANNA TAKE OVER SOME KINGDOM THAT'S BEING RULED BY A RAT?" Rainbow Dash hollered. "I WANNA BE A SUPERHERO AND THAT'S IT!"
The Rat King ignored her as the soldiers started carrying them to the mouse hole.
"Nutcracker!" Clara cried when the Rat King turned to the Nutcracker. The Rat King turned his staff into a crossbow, ready to destroy the Nutcracker once and for all.
"Hey!" Clara called out. "Up here!"
She kicked her slipper off, and it knocked the Rat King off the firewood. He fell to the ground, unconscious.
"Your Majesty!" one of the mice exclaimed, and the soldiers dropped the Equestria Girls and ran over to their king's side. Carrying the king, they all ran through the mouse hole.
The garland broke, and Clara swung across the mantel, knocking herself and the Nutcracker onto a cushion.
"Thank you for saving my life," the Nutcracker said, helping Clara off the cushion as the Equestria Girls rushed up to the duo.
"I don't really like mice anymore," Fluttershy said.
"I miss being taller than AJ," Rainbow Dash sighed.
"It was only for a second!" Applejack protested.
"It was the best second of my life," Rainbow Dash sighed again, only it was a happy one.
"Speaking of being small..." Twilight looked around. "We're still the size of pebbles."
"This has to be a dream," Clara said, looking around the room.
"I'm afraid it's all real, ladies," the Nutcracker said, pulling his sword out of the grill. "And I must get back to my kingdom before something worse happens."
"Well, do you think you could change us back before you go?" Clara asked.
"Please," Rainbow Dash said. "But please have me get taller before AJ, because I love being the tall one."
Applejack rolled her eyes in frustration.
"I'm afraid that only the Sugar Plum Princess can reverse the spell," the Nutcracker explained.
"Sugar Plum Princess?" Clara asked.
"Sounds pretty ridiculous," Sunset said, pulling out her phone and gasped when she realized she didn't have any service... since they were in the 19th century.
"I've been trying to find her ever since the Mouse King turned me into a nutcracker," the Nutcracker said.
"You mean you used to be..." Clara began.
"Not a nutcracker," the Nutcracker finished.
"Coulda said human, but okay," Rainbow Dash shrugged. "And why did you call him the Mouse King? I thought he was a rat."
"It's a mouse," the Nutcracker said. "Anyways, it's pretty surprising to see a lady in men's clothes."
"Is wearing pants a crime or something?" Rainbow Dash threw her hands up. "Next thing I know, soccer is banned for women. This is why I can't stand history, because us girls had the short end of the stick!"
"You also sleep through class," Sunset pointed out.
"Gee, gotta rub it in," Rainbow Dash crossed her arms in annoyance.
That's when they heart a hoot. All nine of them turned and saw the owl from the clock flying down to them.
"Perhaps I can help," the owl said landing on the arm of the chair.
"Pinkie, is everything in this movie sentient?" Twilight turned to Pinkie.
"Not everything," Pinkie said. "But hey! We're in a world with magic! We should fit right in!"
Twilight groaned.
"You will find the Sugar Plum Princess on an island across the Sea of Storms," the owl said.
"It's cliches all over again," Rainbow Dash rubbed her forehead. "Pinkie, I'm never watching a Barbie movie again."
"Um, we're watching all 38 movies," Pinkie said.
"THERE'S 38 MOVIES!?" Rainbow Dash screamed.
"It's impossible to cross the Sea of Storms," the Nutcracker told the owl.
"It's dangerous, yes," the owl said. "But not impossible."
The Nutcracker shrugged and started walking to the mouse hole.
"Well?" the Nutcracker turned to the tiny girls. "Are you coming?"
"Me?" Clara asked. "With you?"
"In there?" Applejack pointed to the mouse hole. "Have you lost your mind?"
"I don't think so," Twilight said. "It's too risky. Just calculated the chances of us making it and they're pretty slim."
"It's a kids movie, so clearly we're gonna win," Rainbow Dash rolled his eyes.
"Well, if you eight want to spend the rest of your life the size of a mouse," the owl shrugged.
The girls all looked at each other.
"But how will I get back?" Clara asked.
"And we technically come from another world," Pinkie added.
"You do?" Clara turned to her.
"We're in the movie!" Pinkie said. "Seriously, how many times to I have to say that?"
"We're in a movie?" Clara cocked her head.
"You are the main character of the movie!" Pinkie threw her hands up.
Clara blinked in confusion.
The owl flew off the arm and went to the tree, over to the ballerina.
"Plot device coming around in three... two... one..." Rainbow Dash crossed her arms.
"Ah! You know plot devices!" Sunset pointed out.
The owl grabbed something off the ornament and flew back to the girls, handing a golden locket to Clara.
"Once you find the Sugar Plum Princess, simply open the locket, and you will return home your normal size," the owl said. "Same as for you seven."
Clara clasped the locket around her neck.
"We don't have all night," Pinkie said. "We gotta go through the mouse hole to get to the Sugar Plum Princess."
Clara blinked at Pinkie.
"How do you know all of this?" she asked.
"I give up," Pinkie groaned.
Clara said nothing for a while.
"You girls ready?" she asked the Equestria Girls, who all shared looks with each other.
"Right behind you, Nutcracker dude," Rainbow Dash started walking to the mouse hole.
"All right then," Clara said. "Let's go."
