whoever was in charge of wooyoung's destiny must hold a grudge against him. bringing san into his life was one thing but the feelings wooyoung felt towards san, he could sure do without. he cursed himself for giving into san and showing up to the event when he wasn't planning on going in the first place. san's girlfriend had to come the moment wooyoung was walking in with the tray and she just had to kiss his cheek.
wooyoung was beyond embarrassed, he was ashamed. he was overwhelmed by all the emotions he was feeling, he didn't know how to react to the disaster he created. so he did the only thing he could think of; he ran out. this was probably the worst thing wooyoung could have come up with. he looked unprofressional and he knew yeosang would kill him.
he already had enough of yeosang and his scolding. he heard it when he showed up at the restaurant to load the food, he heard it on the ride to the hall, he also heard it while they were walking into the hall. the shooting glares and lectures about how wooyoung was going to regret not listening to yeosang and how he was vying for his own downfall. wooyoung knew that yeosang was just looking after him but this was too much for him to handle.
"wooyoung!". closing his eyes, wooyoung wished he could disappear. he braced himself for another earful from yeosang but was surprised to see san standing in front of him when he opened his eyes. he didn't know what to expect from san. wooyoung did mess up and this was a work event for san, he gulped and stood still while san walked up to him.
the gentle touch of san's finger lifted wooyoung's face up so that his eyes now locked with san's. san's eyebrows were knitted together and there was an evident look of worry on his face. "are you okay?" he softly asked and wooyoung wanted to melt. his voice was calm and soft, there wasn't a hint of annoyance or anger. wooyoung could feel his heart beating rapidly agaisnt his ribcage. why could he just yell at wooyoung? why did he have to be so caring and kind? why did he have to continue to make wooyoung's feelings for him deepen every single time they were around each other? why couldn't wooyoung just stay away from san?
"sorry" wooyoung whispered. he dug his nails into his palms and drifted his gaze away from san. this was a total and utter nightmare.
"you don't need to apologize, it was an accident" san retracted his finger from wooyoung's face but he could still feel san's gaze on him. oh, how wooyoung wished san would be a jerk so he could hate him. it would be so much easier for wooyoung's feelings to disappear if san was a bad person.
the fact is, san isn't a bad person. initially, wooyoung thought he was, but he was wrong. no matter how cold wooyoung acted or how many times he tried to push san away, san always came to him. but san would never feel the way wooyoung feels towards him.
"why did you follow me?" wooyoung asked. san sighed and brushed his fingers through his hair, "why wouldn't i, wooyoung? you've been acting strange since yesterday. and today you came looking upset, shouldn't i be worried?".
"but why?" wooyoung asked, "why do you care?". wooyoung had been pondering over this since san gave him his blazer. for someone who wanted a business transaction, san didn't act like it. wooyoung tried convincing himself that san was just like that. he was just an overly nice and overly annoying person. but then yesterday. the way he came to his house just to find out why wooyoung blocked him. it wasn't even san being curious, it was the way san looked at wooyoung, the way he asked him if he was okay, the way he followed him outside after he messed things up for him. why would he do that?
"fuck, wooyoung. does it matter why? i don't know why, i just do!" san exclaimed, his voice raising in frustration. wooyoung, who wasn't expecting it, jumped up slightly and san instantly softened.
"i'm sorry, i'm just...there's too much going on" san groaned as he dropped his head into his hands.
"will you get in trouble?" wooyoung asked, worried. although wooyoung knew little to nothing about the event, he could tell it was a big deal. he may have dropped one tray, but that tray contained food for the main course so now not all the guests would be able to eat.
"probably" san mumbled. "it's fine, it's not like i was getting a promotion anyways" he let out a sad chuckle and wooyoung raised an eyebrow.
"promotion?" san looked at wooyoung and shrugged, "it doesn't matter anyways". wooyoung was curious but decided to let it go. like san said, it doesn't matter.
"you should go back" wooyoung said, "i'll just go and you'll get refunded. i won't charge you after what i did". wooyoung bit his lip and looked down.
"san!" wooyoung internally cringed at san's girlfriend, who was attempting to run, but failing due to her heels. from beside him, he heard san groan.
"what are you doing? come on, let's go back. they already cleaned the mess up" she glared at wooyoung when she said "mess".
wooyoung sighed and started to walk away from them. "i want to break up" he heard san say and wooyoung stopped in his tracks.
"what?!" his girlfriend exclaimed. wooyoung's heart was beating rapidly. he felt wrong listening to their conversation so he continued to walk away from them. wooyoung knew it was none of his business but he couldn't help but wonder what prompted san to suddenly say that.
feeling a vibration from his pocket, wooyoung fished his phone out and sighed, seeing that yeosang was calling him. he really wasn't in the mood so he declined the call and then proceeded to order an uber. there was just no way he was going to ride in the car with yeosang.
"wooyoung, wait!" hearing the loud steps behind him, wooyoung turned to see san running after him. was he not just talking to his girlfriend?
"wooyoung" san repeated while catching his breath. "please". wooyoung furrowed his eyebrows, puzzled by the sight in front of him. san looked utterly defeated and had a pleading look on his face.
"let me go home with you".
