The sun glowed in the morning breeze, squeezing through the trees lining the school, casting golden rays along the old bricks that built the foundations of the building. The morning air was crisp making her want to wrap herself tighter into the jacket lining her arms. Despite the brisk air, today it didn't seem to bother her. Her mind was elsewhere as she internally repeated the songs which seemed to revolve around her life at the moment.

Pushing open the heavy doors of the building, she took in the sight of the busy corridor letting the doors pull to behind her. Usually at the sight of lockers slamming, voices swarming the air and the stampede of people, she would have easily developed a headache. However, today it barely even registered to her, completely passing her by.

No dwelling on the homework due, the maths test she definitely hadn't studied enough for. Instead, she felt light and positive for her day, possibly the first time in her schooling history.

Somehow, she could still feel the remnants of her moment with Luke, she doubted she would ever be able to forget it. It wasn't like she had never spent one on one time with the boy before, it just felt memorable. Lingering on the back of her mind. Engraved in her brain.

But then the doubt creeps in, what if she was just making it all up? Heightening something which wasn't there to begin with. She didn't know and honestly it didn't matter. She felt good. With her lyrics, with the melodies; with Luke. It all seemed to fit perfectly into her life and she wasn't hoping to get rid of it anytime soon.

She found herself softly humming a tune under her breath as she weaved through the crowd. New ideas swirling around her mind and her fingers twitching to get back to her notebook. She hadn't felt like this in years and she was more than full of ideas ready to let them flow.

But the hallway was loud, cutting her away from new song ideas just as she was approaching her locker. Twisting the combination into her locker, her smile refusing to budge, she barely registered a familiar face just beside her own, looking on strangely at her being happy in the morning which was a rare sight. She gave the girl a grin paired with a greeting before continuing on getting her textbooks for the day.

Flynn was twitching with curiosity, leant against the locker with her eyebrows raised, looking at her with piercing eyes as if she could see more of her. She was used to seeing Danielle on guard or slumped on a Monday morning. This was new, completely new.

"Okay. What's going on?" Flynn asked, her voice a mix of amusement and suspicion. She tilted her head, eyes narrowing playfully as she took in the unusually bright expression on her friend's face. "You're, dare I say it....happy? Like, really happy."

Danielle felt the smile on her own face widen, almost despite herself, as she shrugged loosely. "Is it really that much of a crime to be in a good mood?"

Flynn blinked, crossing her arms tighter as if to emphasise her point. "Oh, you're definitely allowed. It's just—" She gestured vaguely toward her with one hand. "This. You. Smiling. It's... weird." Her tone was teasing, but her curiosity was obvious.

A laugh flew out of Danielle at Flynn's almost concerned nature as if it was an awful thing to be so chirpy, but before she could respond the third member of the party also came down the corridor with an equally happy demeanour. She was practically glowing as her music hummed through her headphones.

"Hey guys" Julie said with a grin to which Danielle reciprocated, however Flynn was now stressing she had been left out of the loop. What the hell happened this weekend to turn these two into literal bundles of joy.

"Okay stop with the happy stuff, you're literally going to make me sick, like, everywhere." Flynn said, dramatically clutching her stomach for effect making the other two give her perplexed glances paired with a small smile, bewildered by what she was getting at. "I'm just not used to it, sorry, it's a nice change but maybe tone it down a little because it's freaking me out."

"Fully noted." Danielle lets out a small snort closing up her locker to face the two.

"So, how's the band doing? Still talented? Still hot." she says in a quiet sing-song voice to the two opposite her. They share a small glance as their smiles widen, one a little more flushed than she was moments prior.

"It's going amazing, we spent pretty much the whole weekend practising and Danielle and Luke have come up with some amazing tracks, you have to hear them." Julie emphasises all giddy with excitement making Danielle laugh in gratitude that the girl appreciated their work as much as she does.

"All thanks to you though, one of them was yours. We barely had to do anything to it, it was perfect." Danielle said paired with a nudge to the curly haired girl as they shared another equally excited grin.

"Okay I have to hear this now, come on." Flynn said, taking the girls off guard as she pulled them along with her in the direction of the music block, with determination in her stride. The walk was short due to their pace and they had a good amount of time to show her what they had been working on before their first lesson began.

"All the lyrics have just been flowing through me, like when I used to write with mom." Julie said following on from the casual chat they had made on their way to music. They now stood in an empty room which held instruments everywhere, making their way over to the grand piano tucked to the side of the room.

Julie placed herself at the keys readying herself to start playing the songs that came to mind giving Danielle a glance telling her to sing. With reluctance she took a seat beside the girl with a fond look in her eyes, not entirely mad at singing the songs she was proud of.

"This is the first one me and Luke wrote." Danielle said, glancing in Flynns direction as Julie began to play the chord sequence.

"Cause we're standing on the edge of great

Great, Great"

The portion was small, but it conveyed the idea of the song perfectly as Flynns smile only widened from hearing it.

"Wow, I love it. Definitely Gaga vibes." Flynn said with a definite nod making the two girls perched at the piano chuckle slightly. Julie glanced back down to the piano finding the chords for the next song she had in mind.

"This one, is all thanks to Julie and her mom, only just finished but it's more than good." Danielle announced earning a soft grin from Julie before she readied herself, once again, to play the chords following along with the melody.

And it's one, two, three, four times

That I've tried for one more night

Light a fire in my eyes

I'm going out of my mind

"That's... these are beautiful guys." Flynn stood proud of the two girls, feeling her own excitement increase at the idea of the band. It was something none of the girls could have guessed, so any change felt huge. It was new territory to explore. Danielle chuckled slightly looking down at the lyrics in her notebook, engrossed in them to the point she hadn't noticed the sly look the other two girls sent each other knowingly.

"And our girl's got herself a crush, and his name is Luke." Flynn's voice spoke up immediately springing Danielle into defence as she whipped her head up-right too quickly, alarm filling her face.

"What? Me and Luke? Pfh like that could happen, he's a ghost if you remember rightly." Her laugh was completely forced as her eyes darted anywhere but towards her two knowing friends. It really wasn't that difficult to spot, whatever feelings she did hold loved to take a centerpiece right in the centre of her face.

"Yeah and a cute ghost, and by "that could never happen" you still want it though. Come on, it's useless denying it, especially when Flynn is involved." Julie said with raised brows nudging the tense girl's shoulder with an amused expression swimming in her eyes.

"She's not wrong, I'll squeeze it out of you like oranges into orange juice." Flynn stated almost proud of herself making Danielle squint her nose in distaste, not even wanting to ask how she would go about that. Danielle knew she was stuck, there was no point denying the tiny crush forming inside, and she knew that the girls were never going to let it go. Ever. That's kinda how they are.

"Okay fine, he's pretty great" she let out in a sigh of defeat causing the two girls' grin to widen with delight of her friend admitting to having the connection they could blatantly see.

"I think you mean to say a pretty cute ghost." Flynn said with a small laugh, egging on Danielle to go more into depth of her secret confession.

'With an annoyingly good smile." Danielle let out begrudgingly, giving the two girls beside her a conflicted look. She knew how she felt, that didn't need to be questioned. But it felt wrong. Her and Luke were great friends, and an amazing songwriting duo. She didn't want to screw anything up, especially something so good.

"Ha, I Knew it. Honestly never thought you would admit it to us, I'm proud of you." Julie said, causing Danielle to roll her eyes at her friend's dynamics. She loved them two but they really knew how to pry.

"Just remember, even though you can still touch him, he is still made of air." Flynn winced as her words came out causing Julie to lean across the piano and smack her in the side causing a yelp to forcefully leave her lips. Danielle wasn't offended though, she found it funny how ridiculous their conversation was. What is her life?

"I haven't forgotten that fact, but thanks for reminding me." Danielle said with a grin almost sarcastically at Flynn. Like she could forget she had ghosts roaming around her life. That would be something that would forever stick with her.

"Moving on, you know everybody's wondering when you'll next play again." Flynn said moving along the conversation focusing back in on Julie causing her to furrow her brows. She had only performed one song with the only purpose of getting back into the music program, but now every single person in the school wanted to see them on stage again.

Danielle was happy for her friend but Oliver and her group of friends were starting to get annoying with the amount of insistent whines of getting the band back to school. She couldn't go one day without the reminder of how popular the band was seeming to become and honestly she would love her day a whole lot more if it wasn't a repeating ringing down the corridors wherever she went.

"Play again? We don't even have anything planned. We've only been focused on writing new songs." Julie said with a furrow in her brow glancing to the brunette on the bench beside her. The fact she hadn't heard the whispers was incredibly beyond her.

"Luckily for you, your marketing team has been way ahead of you." Flynn said with a grin before rummaging through her bag in hopes of finding something.

"I don't like where this is going." Danielle spoke aloud, letting her worries overflow for whatever idea Flynn had in store. Flynn never half assed anything, whatever this was it was already booked planned and a date at the ready.

"I don't have a marketing team." Julie whispered almost to herself, her confusion doubling every other second as Flynn found her phone and was now scrolling through in search for her information she seemed to hold with apprehension.

"I think it's already too late for that Julie." Danielle said in a whisper leaning closer to her friend's side as her eyes stuck to the beaming girl in front of them, almost bouncing on her toes with excitement.

"You, my amazing friend, are playing the school dance tonight, and I'm DJ-ing too." Both Danielle and Julie's mouths fell slack in place not seemingly processing the information thrown at them. "I posted it all over social media, you now have the best marketing team on the market."

"No, no! Flynn, this is in front of the whole school!" Julie's discomfort was more than obvious as she flew her arms in the air, stress radiating across the room.

However, no one had time to say anything else as Flynns phone began to buzz, only increasing the size of her grin, if it was even possible. Her eyes skimmed her phone quickly before presenting it to her two friends sitting by the piano. "Sorry, you already have 68 likes."

Containing her laugh she began to edge towards the door, not wanting to come face to face with the severely displeased Julie. Danielle found amusement in the situation as well as sympathy for Julie as she has kinda been chucked in with the lions for this performance. Despite trying to get Flynn to stay with desperation there was no luck as she was already by the door ready to make an escape.

"You know you love me, please don't let her kill me Danielle. See you later!" And with that she was gone leaving a dejected curly haired girl along with a brunette who had no clue how to handle this situation. The silence longed out around them as Julie deflated into her seat. Danielle knew she had to be the one to break it and somehow comfort her.

"I mean it could be worse... right?" Danielle immediately winced at her words as she caught a glance of Julie's glare which signified it was definitely not something she was entirely ready for yet. "Okay stupid question."

"Please could you perform with me, You know the songs! There is no chance we will all learn this by the end of the day." Running a stressed hand down her face she gave Danielle hopeful eyes which made the other girl slightly freeze up. As much as she wanted to be there for her friend, there was no chance she could get up on that stage in front of all those people.

"I'm really sorry but I think I'd throw up on stage or something, I don't feel like recreating a pitch perfect scene." Danielle said with a sympathetic chuckle, not wanting to come across as rude, but also not having any want to do it.

"Pitch Perfect scene?"

"You've never watched it? What is wrong with you? You know at the beginning when... never mind, I just can't do that sorry. You should be blessed that I wrote you those songs anyways."

—-----------------------

Canteen lines are probably the most tedious process of Danielles life. The idea of cueing for a good 10 minutes only to receive some sort of slop the school deems as being food. Half the time you can't even tell if it came from an animal or from the ground. These are, unfortunately, the consequences of forgetting to make a decent meal before school begins.

Danielle and Juliette found themselves shuffling up the line every few minutes as the cue slowly started to decrease in size. Not a single person looked entirely pleased with the options which have ended up on their plate. Juliette for some reason never had a problem with the food, it made Danielle seriously consider how she could be so close with the girl.

"So, I heard that Julie is going to perform at the dance this evening. Cara seriously can't wait." Juliette said with a laugh perking Danielles attention from her previously spaced out mind. She wasn't entirely surprised that the girl had heard about it, she wouldn't put it past Juliette if she somehow figured it out before Flynn had officially made the post.

"Yeah they mentioned it to me this morning, it should be good. I wasn't planning to go tonight but I'll be there for moral support." Danielle said, making Juliette turn to her with a questioning brow silently asking why she didn't want to go. "They just aren't really my scene."

"Trust me when I say this, I will forcibly make it your scene. I promise you , we will have such a good night. If you want we can get ready together, it always starts the evening off right." Juliette said with certainty in her voice, making Danielle suppress a laugh at the excitement tumbling off the blonde.

Throughout the years Danielle has had plenty of opportunities to go to these dances but has always shut them down immediately. She never got the point of jumping up and down and shuffling to songs, especially not what they now play on the radio. She'd rather spend her evening reading with Fleetwood mac on shuffle.

"I don't even have anything to wear, Jules." Danielle muttered in a whine not particularly feeling like dressing up in some glitzed up dress that poofs out at the waist. Or worse, neon pink.

"You have no faith in me, I'll bring over a bunch of choices for later and no, before you say anything, they won't be pink." Juliette said with a knowing smile causing Danielle to let one of her own perk at her lips before cutting the conversation off as the girls reach to the front of the cue.

Grabbing their trays of "food" they begin to move away from where the food was displayed to make their way over to the table the other two girls had snagged before anyone else could get their hands on it. Trying to avoid the constant onslaught of people coming from all directions, they weaved through the crowd with set determination just wanting to take a moment to relax.

However, life didn't seem to want that for Danielle as she could faintly hear a voice yelling her name somewhere behind her. Both girls slowed slightly, turning around back to the way they came from to see Oliver with a wide grin clumsily making his way through the crowd causing The brunette to suppress a snort at the scene in front of her.

"Hey, sorry for yelling, I didn't think I'd catch up to you." He said with a huge grin completely out of breath, looking as if he had just ran 10 miles making Danielle chuckle out loud.

"I'll meet you at the table, Oliver." Juliette said with a sly grin towards Danielle making the girl stick her tongue out discreetly. Juliette bid the boy goodbye before finishing her way through the maze of people to the table, disappearing from the twos sight.

"So what had you rush to speak to me?" Danielle turned back to the boy who was already staring at her with an apprehensive smile on his face. She could see his nerves physically present themself to her through the way he nervously chuckled down to him wringing his fingers together by his side.

"Erm, actually there was something I wanted to ask you. You can say no, but I was wondering if you would be interested in going to the dance with me tonight?" Danielles smile turned to one of surprise as her brows rose up into her forehead, having not expected the question. Oliver immediately took this as her being uncomfortable with the suggestion making him hit himself internally, ready to backtrack his sentence.

"If you don't want to go that's completely fine with me, I just know these things can get boring and you tend to have the opposite effect. But It was just a suggestion." Oliver begins to list awkwardly getting wrapped up in his head, heightening the humour the girl found watching his words tangle.

"Why not?" Danielle cut off the boy's rambles with a shrug at her shoulder, shutting the boy up in an instant. His expression morphed to one of confusement straight over to excitement, both individuals holding smiles; one a lot bigger than the other.

"Wait really?" He said subtly bouncing on his toes like a kid at christmas.

"Yes loser, I'm getting ready at mine with Juliette so pick me up at 8:30. If you aren't in a perfect 10/10 tux then I'll send you away." With her eyebrows raised she let her sarcasm drip off her tongue encouraging a laugh from the boy beside her, visibly more relaxed than he was a few moments prior.

"Of course, I wouldn't dream of it any
