An orb, just like before appears, making Shadow and Rouge come out of it and landing on the ground. They were in the far future, and it was definitely a looker.

Rouge: [Looks out of shattered window; confused] What is this place?

Shadow: It seems we've been teleported to another location.

Rouge: Well let's find out where we are.

Shadow nods and Rouge runs ahead, but before he can follow her, he begins thinking about Mephiles and what past they have with each other.

Shadow: Mephiles... Who is he?

Shadow runs after Rouge and the two go off to the database, which looked like it hasn't been used in so long. Rouge was trying to work the computer, but it was so broken she barely even got it working.

Rouge: [Turns computer on] I'm in... [Looks at timeline files] I've pinpointed our location, it's... [Shocked] No... that's not possible... We're still in the Doctor's base. But how can that be? [Comes to realization] Wait, there's no doubt now!

Shadow: So, it's not where we are...

Rouge: [Types at keyboard; gasps]

Shadow: [Finishes sentence] It appears we've gone through time... doesn't it?

Rouge: Yes... Approximately 200 years. Maybe more, depending on when this database was last updated. Well, at least we know we've arrived in the future. That means this Mephiles character has the power to control time.

Shadow: His power feels very similar to my own Chaos Control. But...

As Shadow goes to finish his sentence, the two hear a loud thud from the other room. Meanwhile Sonic, Tails and Knuckles come out of a similar orb from the center of the ceiling. Sonic lands softly on his feet, but Tails lands on his rear and Knuckles lands face first on the ground.

Tails: [Head shakes] Boy, do I feel dizzy... [Looks around; confused] Where are we?

From above the room, footsteps can be heard.

Rouge: Oh, look who's here! [Sonic looks to the voice] I didn't expect to see you guys.

Tails: [Looks at top of room with Sonic and Knuckles; excited] Rouge! Shadow!

Rouge: [Waves] Hi. Long time no see!

Rouge and Shadow take Sonic, Tails and Knuckles out of the database and to the roof of the building, where the five get a good look at the future they find themselves in.

Shadow: This is the distant future, far removed from our own timeline.

Tails: The future? Then that means Eggman's machine can control time!

Sonic: [Rubs nose] Eggman's got some nerve dropping us here.

Knuckles: [Kicks rock; looks around confused] Now, how do we get back to our own time?

Shadow: You need a space-time rift, but this requires a lot of energy.

Sonic: [Understands] I see. You mean using your Chaos Control will...

Shadow: [Finishes sentence; points to Sonic] Yes, but that alone is insufficient.

Sonic: [Thumbs up] Okay, Shadow. It looks like we need to work together.

The two nod at each other and ultimately decide to work together for once, knowing that they might just have to in order to get back to the past. Team Sonic and Team Shadow separate into two groups, hoping to cover more ground on their way to the database.

Sonic, Tails and Knuckles are currently walking through a hallway, looking around at the near destroyed corridor.

Knuckles: No matter where we go, all we see are ruins. How can this be our future?

Tails: How could it come to this?

Sonic doesn't respond, but finds an open door. He walks up to it and looks inside, seeing Silver standing inside with a lookalike of Shadow and a purple cat talking.

Silver: Could it be true? If I eliminate that guy, will our world be saved?

Mephiles: [Nods] The Day of Disaster... Here are my records of this event. This was when Iblis was freed and his flames were released into the world. [Pulls out purple Chaos Emerald] And you have this person to blame.

Silver looked into the Chaos Emerald and was looking at something, but whatever that was Sonic had no idea what it was.

Silver: [Excited] I see it! So, that blue hedgehog's the Iblis Trigger?

Blaze: [Curiously steps closer] Blue hedgehog...

Mephiles: [Silver gives Chaos Emerald back] I'll send us back in time to the point when the Iblis Trigger was still alive.

Shadow's lookalike teleports Silver and the cat somewhere else, and it was at this point Sonic knew what was going on, only halfway though. The three run into the room and begin looking for them, but there was no trace left.

Knuckles: [Confused] What the... Who was that guy? He looked just like Shadow...

Tails: [Looks at computer; shocked] Th-This is terrible! According to the data, the Princess died when she was kidnapped by Eggman! Apparently Eggman's battleship exploded! [Types at keyboard] The data of this incident was... two days after the Festival of the Sun!

Sonic: If we don't return in time, Elise will die onboard Eggman's battleship. That means...

Tails: [Drops head] Yeah... I think so.

It was now due or die time for Sonic and the others. If Elise dies onboard Eggman's battleship, that means all of this would have been for nothing. And if that happens, then Soleanna would be in a state of panic. Meanwhile, Shadow and Rouge make their way over to the base, but find even more opposition on their side.

After getting even closer to the database, Shadow and Rouge, who's walking around with the yellow Chaos Emerald, are walking to the entrance of the base.

Rouge: [Admiring the Chaos Emerald] My precious Chaos Emerald. You are all so beautiful. Your mysterious brilliance...

Upon their way to the base, however, they find something very nerve wrecking.

Rouge: [Confused] Omega! What's he doing here?

Shadow: [Checks his memory bank] It seems he's in standby mode.

Rouge: What could have possibly happened to create this future? [Shadow shakes head; communicator goes off] Yes, this is Rouge. Understood. We'll be there in a minute. [Turns to Shadow] It looks like Sonic and his friends have found something, too. Let's go. [Shadow looks at Omega] It's not like we can do anything for him now.

Shadow: [Nods] Yeah.

The two leave and go to meet up with Sonic and the others, which was much easier for Team Shadow. They wait for them at the edge of a volcano, and finally they come.

Rouge: You guys are so slow. [Pulls out Emerald] Look.

Tails: [Surprised] A Chaos Emerald! You've already found one!

Rouge: [Knuckles looks away] Well now... I may not look it, but I'm a real treasure hunter. Unlike a certain echidna I know.

Knuckles: [Moves to Rouge; ticked off] What? [Turns away; scoffs]

Shadow: Have you guys discovered anything?

Tails: [Nervously] Um, yeah. [Points to volcano] I received a signal indicating there's a Chaos Emerald here, but...

Rouge: [Looks at volcano] You mean we've got to go through there?

Knuckles: [Moves back to Rouge; seriously] If you don't like it, you can stay here.

Rouge: You've got to be kidding!

Sonic: [Points to Shadow; seriously] Don't be late.

Shadow: [Moves to Sonic; averts eyesight] Same to you.

They run to the volcano and prepare to hunt down the Chaos Emerald, realizing this might be their only way home.

The group makes their way into the heart of the volcano and finds the Chaos Emerald, but this couldn't have been easy.

Rouge: [Flies to Emerald; attempts to grab it] I've found a Chaos Emerald!

Shadow: Don't touch it!

Flames shoot out in front of Rouge, causing her to back away. What comes out is something they've never seen, however.

Rouge: What? What's this?

The creature roars at them and prepares to fight, but as soon as Sonic steps up, Shadow takes the driver's seat.

Shadow: You stay back. I'll deal with this.

Sonic: [Nods] Right, Shadow.

After defeating the creature, Sonic and Shadow pull out their respective Chaos Emeralds and put them together, ready to go back home.

Sonic & Shadow: Chaos Control!

A vortex appears in front of them and they jump in, but as Rouge goes to join them, something appears behind Shadow and stops him in his tracks. It was Mephiles, and he was determined to keep Shadow in the future for a little bit longer.
