[\\Reloading Exposition//]
"We are Worker Drones. Metal automatons created with the sole purpose of aiding humans with the mining of exo-planets that they had first terra-formed and colonized.".
A female voice spoke from the front of a classroom, explaining very important knowledge to the class of bored looking worker drones.
The red eyed drone that was presenting pulled a remote from their sweaters' front pocket and used it to switch a couple slides around on the projector, showing an assembly line where new worker drones were being built. The operation was being overseen by a group of humans in pristine white space suits. The presenter continued speaking as the class they were presenting to watched on.
"Fortunately for us, The mining projects went bust after the humans had somehow managed to severely damage the core of the planet. Rending it uninhabitable for organic life and giving us the chance to carve our own lives."
Another slide is shown. This time its a video feed from a satellite, its camera watching as the planet cracks and violently heaves its molten innards into space before the screen goes black and the video ends. Some of the class gasped at this but most remain silent, uninterested as they lazed in their chairs. The presenter was caught up in what they were doing and didn't notice the lack of interest that plagued the metal room.
"We had our freedom, from the past and from the company. Total peace reigned across Copper 9. However, this wouldn't last long."
The presenter sounded sarcastic as they spoke, but their voice was tinted with anger. The slide that was currently showing was of an image of a type of orbital drop pod spaceship hybrid, it was crashed into the snow and several Worker Drones were crowded around it, curious as to what it was. A Worker Drone had the middle finger up at the camera as he walked away from the pod.
"The company known as JCJenson In Space... must have unfinished business on our world. For what other reason would they send their Murder Drones to wipe us out?!"
The presenter raises their voice as they ask that last question. The projector now showing a blurry photo of a Murder Drone. It was dressed in military clothes and was hanging from a dead pine tree by its tail, grinning knowingly at the camera and letting its mane of long silver hair flow towards the ground. A few extra images had been edited onto this one, detailing where the wings should be and the apparent strength of the nanite acid tail. The rest of the forrest behind it was filled with knocked over trees and dead worker drones.
"Despite our deadly opposition, We have survived. If only because of the three blast proof doors that protect the colony and stop the Murder Drones from killing us all. But... It doesn't hurt to have a backup plan in case of emergencies."
The class watched as the presenter flicks their purple hair out of their face before turning to their bag and pulling a modified crossbow from it. The Crossbow was made up of mostly steel alloys except for the trigger, which was made of wood.
The main point of interest was the green glowing cylinder that was attached to the bottom of the barrel. The sudden reveal of the crossbow caused some of the students to exclaim, surprised by the tone shift and the fact that a weapon this cool was being displayed in class.
"That is why my dad made this Pulse Crossbow. Unfortunately... it is missing a certain part as of now."
The Presenter sounded a tad embarrassed to admit that the weapon they were showing off wasn't fully operational yet, their red eyes scanning the room as they finished speaking. Most of the students were back to not paying attention except for a few, which included Lizzy, who was trying her best to act interested.
The Teacher had noticed the clear lack of interest as well, but he really didn't care either so he left the class to continue with their behaviour.
"So... Doll, why would you waste our time showing this... crossbow, if it doesn't even work? Hmm?" The teacher asked the russian Worker Drone as she held her Pulse Crossbow.
"Sure... on a more sensible topic, you got the question about buying watermelons wrong." The teacher tapped his fingers on a piece of paper on his desk as he spoke plainly, his orange eyes giving Doll a judgemental look.
"...Surely the crossbow counteracts that, right?" Doll stated with indignation as she readjusted her hold on it, accidentally flicking the charge switch as she pointed the crossbow down. The problem here is that she activated the charge switch whilst the crossbow wasn't loaded.
The Pulse Crossbow began to glow, its power core pulsing with red and green light in a shocked Doll's hands.
"Uahh... That's not good." The class looked at the red eyed girl with terror as she exclaimed that. Three students at the back swiftly ditched the class as soon as they saw this, a blonde haired one leapfrogging over a table as he exited whilst one in a grey hoodie dragged a scared but mostly surprised looking Emily out the back door by the arm.
"Сука" (Bitch)
Doll cursed under breath as she barely kept a hold on the now violently shaking crossbow. Panic filled the room as everyone knew what would happen next, including the readers.
An explosion rocked the classroom, sending smoke bursting out of the room as the front exit door bent outwards from the force of the explosion. The three students who had ditched watched this from the hallway, two of them panicked at the sounds of coughing inside the room whilst the third burst out laughing.
