Not even that long had passed before the kyurangers had managed to figure out how to outsmart Ikaagen and take him down. They finally got the Tomo kyutama back. Now for them to just manage to find the other two. Then after all these years... it would be time to reveal the hidden part of that legend.
Scorpio was set to arrive on Earth soon. Madakko had joined Onyx to wait for him. They finally got word he made it and went to his location. He stood overlooking the town below.
"Scorpio-sama, welcome." Madakko greeted him. "I'm here to welcome you."
"Long time no see, Scorpio." Onyx said. "You've been busy, I've heard. Chief Retainer now, are we?"
Scorpio nodded to them. "Correct. I am now a Chief Retainer."
"And now you've been sent to handle the kyurangers." Onyx smirked. "I wonder what will happen when they meet you..."
"I look forward to getting to face Stinger."
"I see... shall we give you a little tour of the place for now? It should only be a matter of time before you want to do things. Knowing your way around would be helpful."
"Very well."
...
The next morning, Scorpio requested to go see the governor of the area. Mondomuya Indaver was this one. When him and Onyx arrived, it was in the middle of a conference. The townsfolk were begging him for things. He didn't seem to care much about it.
"Boring." Scorpio commented, drawing everyone's attention to him. "Violence... pain... fear... that's what control is."
He struck his tail out and stung the governor. "Bow before my poison."
Onyx watched in confusion as the governor started acting weird. He attacked his comrades and then they also began acting weird. Everyone was panicking and running for the door when more people came in. They were acting just like the governor was.
"Scorpio. Um... what exactly did you do?" Onyx questioned.
"Gave them a taste of my poison."
"I know that, but what the hell is your poison doing to them?"
"I suppose it is similar to turning someone into a zombie."
Onyx just sighed and shook their head. "You've been here for less than a day and this is what you've gotten up to. This should certainly be more entertaining to witness than anything the others have done."
"I wish to let Stinger know I am here. That is all." Scorpio said. "He'll know what is happening to these people."
"I see. You want him to come to you."
Scorpio nodded. "I'm going back. I've done what I needed to do for now."
"I'm going to stay and watch the mayhem." Onyx replied. "Unless you need me for something."
"I'm fine. Let me know how the kyurangers react if you see them."
"But of course." Onyx nodded.
...
Onyx didn't manage to actually get to the kyurangers until they had already begun to spread an antidote to the citizens. They had gotten caught up with the hoard of people. They were attacking anyone they saw. That was annoying. Did Scorpio have to make them that complicated to deal with?
They found Shou Ronpo, Champ, and Lucky near a playground. The commander was telling them the story of how he found Stinger. Onyx listened in with interest. They had never asked Stinger how exactly he was recruited.
"He calmly faced his past, but in truth, maybe he wants to save his brother." Shou said.
"Indeed." Onyx jumped in to the conversation, walking over.
"Eh? You know something, Akuma?" Lucky asked.
Onyx nodded. "I was put with Stinger when he joined Jark Matter as a spy. To make sure he didn't cause problems. We spoke and... yeah. He still has the hope that maybe somehow he can save his brother from the monster he has become."
"So... he still believes in Scorpio even now?"
"He wants to."
"That idiot!" Champ grumbled, before he rushed off.
"Do you think Stinger can save his brother?" Lucky asked Onyx.
Onyx glanced at him and then up to the sky. "Truth be told, I don't know. Scorpio may be too far gone to be saved. He wants to fight Stinger. I don't think it would be an easy task to get him to not do so."
"You've been interacting with Scorpio then?" Shou questioned.
"He's my assistant. I'd hope so."
"We should get going. They'll need our help." Lucky said.
"Stinger wants to search on Earth for Scorpio." Shou said.
"I figured. That's what Scorpio was hoping for." Onyx sighed. "I'll do my best to keep an eye on the kid. Let me know if he ends up needing anything and I'll see what I can do."
"Thank you."
The commander and Lucky rushed to go follow after Champ. Onyx hung back and went to go see where Scorpio was at now. Was he watching the fight or was he somewhere else?
They found him on a rooftop, watching. The governor had turned giant. The kyurangers were fighting him now in their robot.
"Scorpio." Onyx walked to him side. "The kyurangers are aware you are on Earth."
"Perfect. Stinger will come to me soon enough."
"What exactly is your plan with him? Just gonna hash out old wounds and then try to kill him?"
"I'm going to use him."
"Use him how?"
"For info about what the kyurangers are doing here."
Onyx gave him a worried look. "Digging into things like that will get you killed for insubordination, Scorpio."
Before Scorpio could reply, a tsyuoindaver came up the steps and walked toward them. He wrapped his tail around his leg and it turned into some weird thing on his leg. Scorpio kicked the tsyoindaver and killed it.
Scorpio faced Onyx once it was over. "I have a question for you."
"And what would that be?"
"There's a mysterious kyuranger that no one has ever seen untransformed. Incidentally I heard you are never around when they are." Scorpio stated. "So... tell me, Akuma. Just what are you doing?"
"What am I doing?" Onyx hummed. "I don't know what you mean, Scorpio. But I do know if this doesn't stay where it belongs... you won't like the outcome."
Scorpio took a step back. "I had no plans for anyone to know. I simply want to know why you're doing it."
Onyx stared him down. "What I do in my free time is no one's business. Pry furthur and I'll let Don Armage know that you are a threat. He'll believe whatever I say. Be careful, toy."
Scorpio backed down. Onyx sighed. Things were getting dangerous now. Those kyurangers better find the kyutamas fast.
"Scorpio? What are you planning to with the information you learn?" Onyx asked.
"Use it to destroy the kyurangers."
"And?"
"None of your business."
Onyx chuckled. "Seems we both have secrets we don't want anyone to know, huh?"
"I guess so."
"Then let's make a deal. You stay out of my way and I'll stay out of yours."
"Very well."
...
It was later that very day that Onyx got a message from the commander that Stinger wanted to talk to them before setting off on his search. Onyx wasn't sure how this conversation would go. They very well could lead him to where Scorpio was but was that wise? Probably not.
"Scorpio. I have things to attend to. No idea when I'll be back. You know how to reach me if you need something." Onyx said to Scorpio as they prepared to head out.
"Understood."
"Keep Madakko out of trouble, would ya?"
"If I feel like it."
Onyx rolled their eyes. "Try not to blow up the entire town while I'm gone. I'd like to witness the mayhem myself, thank you."
"So you can stop it, you mean." Scorpio stated.
Onyx vanished and in a moment stood behind Scorpio, a knife pressed against his back. "You don't want to play these games with me, Scorpio. I have the power to bring your demise in more ways than one. Don't forget that."
"Not if I strike first."
Onyx laughed as they felt the tip of Scorpio's stinger against their neck. "Bad news for you. I'm effectively immortal thanks to a certain something. That won't do anything to me."
They grabbed his tail and roughly squeezed it, before letting go and heading to the door. They glanced back to see Scorpio rubbing his tail where they had hurt it.
"Just what are you trying to do...?" Scorpio questioned. "With your power... you could replace Don Armage. And yet you've allied with those against any ruler like that."
Onyx smirked. "So that's what you're playing at? Trying to usurp Don Armage and rule in his place? How treasonous. All the more reason now for you to stay out of my way if you don't want him to know."
"Why don't you kill me where I stand? I'm against you now."
"I'd prefer you stayed alive till you and Stinger got to meet again. I'm dying to see how the reunion goes between you two." Onyx replied. "Now, I'm going out. Stay out of trouble."
Onyx heard Scorpio mumbled something under his breath. They could care less. As long as he stayed in his lane for now, things would be okay. Eventually they would have to deal with him though. If he continued down this path, the kyurangers would have no choice but to put an end to him.
"Stinger. Champ. I was told to meet with you. Had some things to talk about?" Onyx found the place they had been told to meet up at quite easily.
Stinger nodded. "The commander said you know more about Scorpio. What are his intentions here. You have to know that, don't you?"
Onyx chuckled. "Man, you don't even wanna find him to get that answer?"
"Tell me if you know!" Stinger grabbed them by their shirt.
"Oi, Stinger." Champ pulled him off of Onyx.
"What is it going to do for you if you know his intentions?" Onyx questioned, not fazed by the attack. "It won't change what you're doing."
"Please..."
"He wants to meet with you." Onyx stated. "That's all I will say."
"So... he set that up so I'd come looking for him?"
"Correct."
"You know where he is, don't you?" Champ asked.
Onyx met his eyes. "So what if I do? I'm not telling."
"But..." Stinger began to protest.
"In your current state, you are not ready to face him, Stinger." Onyx stated firmly.
"I am!"
"Do you have the resolve to kill him if it comes to that?" Onyx questioned, getting into Stinger's face. "Can you handle it if your brother turns out to be an irredeemable monster that you can't save?"
"I..." Stinger didn't finish.
"See? You need to find resolve, kid. Until you do, you won't be able to face him properly. All you'll do is get yourself killed."
"But... how do I find resolve then? Meeting him and talking will give me it!" Stinger argued. "Tell me where he is, Onyx!"
"Now we're just going in circles..." Onyx sighed.
"Onyx?" Champ repeated. "Is that... your name?"
Onyx blinked at him. "Huh? Oh... right. Yeah. That's my name."
"Then why have you never told us? Why have you just let us call you Akuma?" Champ questioned.
Onyx shrugged. "I've been called that all my life. I've gotten quite used to hearing it. It's pretty much my second name at this point."
"What do you want me to do, Onyx? How am I supposed to prove I have what it takes to face Scorpio?" Stinger got them back on topic.
"I don't know. Perhaps as you search for him, you'll find that resolve somewhere."
"Will you... join us?"
"Eh? You're inviting me on this search party?"
"So you can witness when I find this resolve you want to see. So then you'll tell me where aniki is." Stinger stated.
Onyx clicked their tongue. "Calling him that term is a clear sign that you lack resolve."
"But..." Stinger looked troubled by that statement.
"You need to push aside those feelings. If you let your feelings take hold, you'll crumble and not see things straight. Easy to manipulate. If he wants to hurt you, it wouldn't be hard to do if you're blinded by that trust in him."
"My feelings won't get in the way! Now, are you joining us or not?"
"I suppose so. I did tell them I was going out and wouldn't know when I'd be back. I'll join you on this ride. See how it goes." Onyx replied. "Be a bit awkward since I know where we should be going. Let's see how far off track you end up, shall we?"
"Then let's go." Stinger stated.
Onyx nodded. "Should we tell the commander about this?"
Stinger shrugged and contacted the ship. "Commander."
"Ah, Stinger. I assume you've finished your talk?"
"Yes. On- Akuma will be joining us on this journey so please be aware they can't help if trouble arises for you guys." Stinger said.
"Okyuu. I'll let everyone know. Best of luck you three!"
"If you need any advice on governors or things like that, give me a call and I'll try to give some tips. That's the best I can offer." Onyx added before he hung up.
"Gotcha!"
The call ended. Onyx looked between Stinger and Champ.
"So, which way?"
