Chapter Six – Talk Submissive Wolf

Tyler was my height with blonde hair and green eyes. He was sat curled up in a chair with a book on his lap. The moment I entered the room, he looked up and put the book down. "I don't mean to sound disrespectful..." were his first words. "But should I call you Alpha?"

I paused in my steps towards him. No one had ever asked that, and because no one had, I ignored what should have been called disrespect. "I'm not an Alpha."

"But you're strong enough to be one..."

"Call me Zarah, since we're about to dive into each others lives."

The submissive nodded his head. "What would you like to know, Zarah?"

"What's it like being mated to an Omega wolf?"

Tyler didn't respond for a moment, thinking about the answer he was to give. "Different. You won't believe me, but it's one of the safest matings you can have."

Open mind. Keep an open mind... "How so?"

"You've heard about wolves chasing each other before mating? Heard about wolves using others to get their mates jealous? Before and after mating?"

"What does that have to do with Omega's?"

"They're possessive. They won't do that to you. The downfall of that is if you try and do it to them..." as the submissive wolf stared at the carpet, his hands clenched, I felt my eyes narrow.

"Did you try and make your mate jealous?"

"No... But like you, I was scared about being mated to an Omega wolf. I made her chase after me... not intentionally, but I was scared, we've all grown up with the Omega's being the bogeymen of werewolves."

I ignored the fact that he called me scared and nodded for him to continue.

"She... when she caught up with me, she was violent... hard... Omega's don't care if they hurt you... just as long as you don't die on them and are able to revive your health..." he sighed. "She forced the mating mark and made me return in kind. Since then though... as I came to realise that as long as I didn't over step any rules, it's been great."

"So she forces you to fully mate with her and then it's alls hunky-dory?"

"It wasn't completely like that, but once you come to understand how they work, yes."

"What do you mean?"

"Omega's give a different kind of loyalty than over wolves do."

"Explain."

He licked his lips as he did as I commanded. "Like all matings and marriages we still look at others right? We can still commit adultery and all that, right?"

Frowning, I nodded for him to continue. Where was he going with this?

"Omega's... I've never known Anabeth to look at another. And this one time an old friend came to visit..."

"You were attracted to your friend?"

"We'd been a couple before I'd mated with Ana. Broke up a couple of months before Ana came into my life. Our relationship had ended and we were fine with that... But Ana didn't like it." Licking his lips, he shuffled in his seat, pulling himself tighter. "My friend ended up in a coma for a month and a half. And being a werewolf, that's a long time... By luck, her mate, a Beta of a pack in France was visiting and he sniffed her out in the hospital. She's with him now and happy."

During his story, I thought of Ryan. While nothing would ever happen between us, there was a hint of attraction. What would my mate think about that? And as Tyler was telling his story about his friend, I was reminded of the fact that my mate had killed my father because he'd tried to break the mating between us.

"So what you're telling me is that Omega's are loyal to the point that they'll kill another if they think that the other will make their mate unloyal to them?"

He nodded, a look of almost relief that I'd understood his words crossed his features. "Only at first... Once you're bound to each other, he'll most likely relax a little. But he'll always be ready to harm another if they go to take you from him."

I nodded. That – very sadly – explained why he killed my father... why he'd threatened my mother... Looking up at the submissive wolf to see a look of pain cross his features, I frowned as I heard him utter a word "sorry".

"For what?" I demanded.

"That he killed your dad. But, I'm guessing that your dad was threatening to break your mating?"

I shook my head, as I realised that I'd spoken out loud. "No, he was going to. Before my mate killed him."

Tyler's eyes widened in horror. "Don't do that!"

I blinked in surprise as the submissive wolf jumped out of his seat. Then he seemed to freeze, realising that he'd just commanded an Alpha-blood wolf, before dropping to his knees, baring his neck. "Explain why not, and I'll forgive you."

"Omega's rely on mates more than anyone knows! Ana told me never to tell anyone but since your also a mate to an Omega, I guess she won't mind..."

"Tell me what?"

"Promise me you'll never tell anyone! Please, Zarah!"

Frowning at the hysterical werewolf, I nodded. "I promise–"

"If you break the bond with a normal wolf, eventually, they may find another. But if you break it with an Omega, they'll die!"

"And that's so bad because..." I drawled out, not seeing the bad side to that.

"Because they die by binding themselves to their mates and killing their mates, killing themselves in the process."

I blinked at the information this submissive wolf had just given me. They'd what? And yeah, okay, now I was really seeing the bad side to that. "That's insane."

"That's Omega."

"So there's no way out of the mating?"

Tyler shook his head, but stopped... then he slowly nodded. "You could kill yourself?"

Both myself and my wolf growled at the thought, cutting it short when Tyler flinched at the sound.

"Anything else about Omega's that I should know about?"

Tyler shrugged. "I guess the rest depends on the Omega and the way you react to him."

"What do you think he'll do when he catches me?"

"Mark you. Make you mark him back."

I growled at the thought while my wolf was twisted between howling with joy and growling along side me.

"What's your mate's name?"

"Isn't it all over the news?"

Tyler shook his head. "Omega's are always called Omega's in SPNL Times. They're never written by name."

"True. His name is Darius Kilt."

Tyler froze. Statue still. Why did everyone keep doing that? First my mum had freaked out over it, now Tyler?

"What?"

"You don't know who he is?"

I raised a brow. "I'm supposed to?"

"But– You're– He– You–" At my growl he spoke quickly, only this time, he made sense. "I thought you would have known about the recent movement involving the Omega's."

I shrugged. "My rank is no higher than Delta, and I spend all my time protecting my pack instead of listening to political squabbles that should just be dealt with fang and claw."

His mouth dropped open. "Your Omega mate is... I guess you could call him the Omega of Omega's. Or the Alpha of Omega's."

"And why is that?"

"The Omega's are banding together."

I frowned. "Why would they do that? It's not like anyone stands against them."

Tyler shrugged. "Ana said that there are several reasons but she never says any more than that."

"But the Omega's are lone wolves!"

Tyler nodded.

So why were they banding together? What could scare the Omega's into banding together? And how had I not known this? How had I been so oblivious to the world around me?

Before I could continue with my thoughts, the door slammed open. A growl poured in. The scent of him rolled throughout the room. Omega. Mate. Crap! I didn't even have the chance to stand and run before fangs punched into skin at my neck. Furry sandy blonde arms wrapped around my middle. And a voice shattered throughout the room as a trail of wet blood dribbled down my neck.

A word rattled through my head. Mine!
