Y/N pov:
I wake up on the couch of April's apartment.
I spent the night at Aprils last night. I didn't think I could drive back to my place with the migraine I had yesterday.
Yesterday was... a lot.
It was nice to be filled in on the turtles better. And you got to properly meet Mayhem, April's dog cat. You understand yokai and the hidden city now too. Again- a lot to take in.
Meeting Donnatello alone at first was... overwhelming. But you got over that fast. He was incredibly sweet. And his nerdiness was charming. For a 20 yr old he seemed like girls made him nervous. He had no reason to be nervous though, because he was a cutie.
You groan as your body remembers it's supposed to be in dull pain.
It's hard to figure Donnatello out though. April described him as the tech guy of course but, also very stubborn and bad at connecting with people. You felt connected to him immediately. Not including when the hand touching happened.
So weird! He wasn't all slimy! He felt like a human hand.
You haven't felt the blossom of a crush for over two years. It felt nice.
How sad is this though? Crushing on a man reptile. Practically my old mascot.
You got off the couch and and gathered your things to leave.
April was still asleep when you left. You gave Mayhem one last pet before leaving and driving back to the dorms.
Once you're back you get to work on some homework. This lasts one or two hours before you get stuck on some excel functions and formulas.
You tap your nails on the laptop.
You open your phone to take a mental break and distract yourself when you find a note you made the previous night.
'Donnatello's number'
You cup your chin with your hand and stare at it.
He does owe me...
Is this weird though? We just met and he's kinda a super hero I think? He probably has better things to do.
You toy with the thought before deciding one text couldn't hurt. Having a super hero friend was cool.
Y/N: hey! This is Y/N, aprils friend! I wanted to reach out so you have my number as well :) 2:05pm
You sigh and close out messages fast. He's probably a slow texter.
Shockingly you got an immediate response.
You hurriedly open the app back up.
Donnatello💜👾: salutations Y/N! Many thanks for reaching out. I am delighted to hear from you. I hope you are feeling better. 2:06pm
You feel yourself have a giddy smile.
Y/N: my head still hurts but not as bad lol. Um random but do you know much about excel? Like formulas and functions? 🙈 2:06pm
Donnatello💜👾: my friend, I might know a little "sum" thing about excel. Indeed I am knowledgeable in that field. May I be of help to you? 2:07pm
Y/N: lolll yes I am struggling with vlookup atm. I would love some guidance. I can make you cookies if you come over? :] 2:08pm
Donnatello💜👾: Stop drilling you've struck oil! I will arrive soon. Send me your perspective location and I shall meet you. 2:08pm
You send him your dorm address. You advise him that you will have to let him in and he should probably wear clothes to cover up the turtle. Although your dorm was usually deserted.
In the time you had, you tidied up the room and 'touched up' your hair and makeup. Aka, put some effort in. You put on comfy plaid pajama pants and another oversized university of Florida sweatshirts. You make a plate of pre made cookies (you have no kitchen) and set them down.
Once you got the 'here' text from Donnatello, you slipped on your shark slippers and hurried down to meet him.
You opened the heavy door to the dorms, struggling slightly with the weight. Donnatello reached out and opened it all the way for you, the hood of his hoodie falling down as he did, leaning over you.
His eyes were so dark and curious, complimented by his purple bandana. His eyebrows were very prominent, but they framed his face well. His goggles sat on his head like they belonged there all the time. His hoodie had no logo or brand.
You both lock eyes, and you try your best to act totallyyy normal. Not like he just leaned over you or anything. You can't help but notice a quick worried glance from him to your forehead.
"Hey! So glad you could make it!" You finally choke out, pulling him inside.
Donnatello stumbles in with you. "No probbles at all Y/N I always enjoy being on college campus. After all it is filled with the power of learning!"
"Well I'm on the third floor so we better get climbing stairs." I say, leading him to the stairs. So far, no one around.
Donnatello follows, his hands toying with the draw strings of his hoodie. "Once I know where your room is I would be fine just coming through the window next time."
You hear his voice stammer at the end there as you notice too. Next time? He thinks we'll see each other often?
You unlock your door and welcome him inside. "It's not much but, it's home."
Donnatello walks in and takes it all in, hands on his hips.
"Given the minimal space you've accommodated very well. I applaud you Y/N." He states matter of factly, before noticing the pictures hung by your bed of your old friends.
"You've got way more friends than April." He remarks, studying the images.
You laugh and go stand beside him.
"That's kinda a compilation of all my friends I've- ever had really." You say. "I've had to make friends in many different schools and then- well leave because we would move away."
Donnatello cocks and eyebrow. "Move away? Where are you from?"
"Well I was born in Texas. But I've also lived in Arizona, California, Colorado, Illinois, Ireland, Florida and now here." You hop on the bed and sit in front of him.
Donnatello's expression softens. "Wow you've been quite a traveler. What brings you to New York?"
You explain everything you've told April.
Donnatello nods and rubs his chin. "One might conclude you are experienced with making friends then?" He gestures to the wall with his hand.
You sadly nod. "Yeah but they can't follow me everywhere yknow? You are the most unique friend I've ever made."
Donnatello let's out a breath and faces away. "In this case I will accept that as a compliment. I am eager to embark on our friendship together as well. Ahem- shall we do some information system work?" He asks, avoiding looking at you.
Aw I made him shy.
"Sure! Let me heat up the cookies if you wanna go ahead and have a look at what I've done already." You say, showing him your spreadsheet and putting the cookies in the microwave.
Donnatello plops into the chair and leans over the desk, mouth in his hand as he squints at the screen.
I don't think I truly understand how smart this guy is.
You set the cookies down beside him on the desk and sit next to him on another rolling chair.
"Thanks dearest Y/N."
You both didn't except him to say that.
You cross your legs and bring them close to you and just turn away to look at the side of his shell, not his face. You feel the blossom of having a crush hit you again. Your cheeks flush as well, hoping he won't notice. Which you don't think he does, he doesn't even look up.
You see his hand tighten around his chin and he squints his eyes shut for a moment.
"So what do you think? Can you help me?" You finally say nervously.
Donnatello pushes away from the laptop and faces you, an entirely different expression on him now, he was really good at hiding his initial embarrassment.
"I know exactly what to do, just leave it to me and I will teach you exactly what you need to know." He says confidently.
The two of you work together, finishing the next week of excel assignments.
"Y/N, just curious, what would you want to do with your marketing degree one day?" Donnatello asks as you pack away your laptop.
You smile at this. You love this question!
"I really want to design things. I love graphic design and being creative and making things for a target market, designed for them. It's so fun and interesting. So maybe social media work or something. I know I want to work from home so I can do whatever I want during the day. Maybe I'll travel Europe some day."
Donnatello's eyes sparkle at your answer. He picks up on your enthusiasm for your career.
"I am inspired by your passion Y/N, and I wish you the best of luck obtaining your academic degree and then succeeding in the business world. I will say, New York is a wonderful city to be in with many opportunities for a career woman such as yourself." He ended with a charming wink.
You laugh. "You should know by now I'm not guaranteed to stay anywhere."
Donatello stretches and crosses his arms. He looks like he's about to say something when his face changes, his eyes locked on your bruise.
You feel his stare and the heat rising to your cheeks again.
"Donnatello I'm fine I promise. I've gotten way more hurt before."
Donnatello bristled. "Im just disappointed in myself for letting this happen. You could've gotten hurt way worse with a head injury. I-also you can call me Donnie." He ended, his tone sweetened.
You sheepishly smile, still feeling his eyes on you. "Okay Donnie. I'm gonna be okay!"
Donnie stands up and forwardly reaches out and gently touches the bruise.
You flinch and feel his soft gentle finger brushing over it.
He clicks his tongue. "Yep it's raised. Your body is healing naturally. You will be alright."
You can tell by his shaky voice that he wasn't as confident doing that as he was trying to be.
He lets his hand linger longer than you'd expect, having brushed your natural bangs away. After he steps back you reach up and feel it as well. It was burning up.
Donnie gets a call on his phone, snapping you both out of whatever that was.
He scrambles to answer. "You're conversing with Donnatello." He says, in his trademark voice.
You hop on your bed and sit criss cross, trying not to be nosey. It was a small room.
"Yes I know. I will be there. No I haven't had dinner. Yes I can pick something up. Tell Leo we are not getting Hawaiian. I'm picking. Yes I am. Yep be there soon." He lets out a breath as he puts his phone away.
"That was my oldest brother. I skipped out on patrol last night so I need to go tonight. It's the responsible thing to do and if I wasn't responsible the whole family would collapse." He mutters, walking towards my one window.
"I've heard a lot about them from April. Would- would I be able to meet them sometime?" I sweetly ask.
That would be so cool!!
Donnie gives you a surprised look. "I mean, probably. Not sure. I will think on it." He stammers.
"Anyway, thanks for the cookies Y/N. Get some good sleep tonight. Your body requires healing." He calls to you while unlocking your window and sliding the pane up.
You nod and reach out to touch his arm before he leaves. You feel him flinch a little at your touch.
"Sleep well too Donnie! See you soon new bestie!"
Donnie stifles a laugh. "Interesting dialogue. I make no promises Y/N. Except that I will see you again, as soon as I am able." He says, climbing out the window and disappearing into the dark winter atmosphere.
