Donnie POV:
I shut Y/N's car's trunk with our luggage inside.
Y/N was in the middle of an over exaggerated hug goodbye with my brother Mikey. I'm not affirmative of who initiated the dramatic scene.
"Be so so safe Y/N there's bears you know!" He cried, hugging my girl tight.
I crossed my arms. Ugh let her go.
"Specifically black bears dear brother. Black bears are interesting because in order to steer them away one must be aggressive and loud." I quipped, to no one really but myself although everyone looked at me.
As if they're not used to my boundless facts I blurt often.
"We're just a call away." Raph finally grinned, and Mikey let Y/N go.
Y/N had parked her car near the entrance to the subway tunnels, and due to it being dark at 4:30 pm, my brothers can safely send us off.
"Thanks everyone. We'll see you soon!" Y/N smiled, blowing kisses.
I couldn't help but smile admiringly. She's quite adorable, even when she makes me jealous.
She reaches for her door handle but I'm there first.
She gasps and I kiss her cheek. "M'lady-" I joke, pulling it open for her.
She laughs and gets in.
I shut the door and Leo whistles at me.
I roll my eyes and get in the other side.
Y/N turns and smiles quietly at me.
I feel her gaze and look up briefly while I buckle. "What?"
"You're very sweet science man. Do you even realize?"
I feel my face heat up but I pretend not to care. "It doesn't matter if I am. Let's get going shall we?"
She doesn't take that. "Your family loves you so much. I'm gonna miss them."
"They'll be fine. We have earned ourselves a break." I reply, finally daring to look at her eyes.
She just smiles sweeter and then nods and puts the address in the gps.
I bite my lip and glance out the window and she drives away. My family waves.
Y/N gently honks the horn bye and then giggles to herself.
A smile tugs at me again. "You're sweet too Y/N."
She turns her smile back to me. "Oh yeah? How many tests did you run to figure that out?"
I chuckle and blush a little. "You would pass them all my love." I murmur.
She reaches a hand over and puts it on my leg. I stiffen but then reach for it and bring her fingers to my mouth to kiss.
"How will you go without your lab for the weekend?" She questions, as we get on the highway.
I softly trace my thumb over her fingers. "I'll manage. I need you to be the center of my attention anyway. I- you know- I have occurred a bad habit of obsessing over projects and- I think being unplugged will detach me from that realm."
My girl just keeps smiling. "Will Sheldon be okay? You know I have a liking for him."
I playfully scoff. "Yea I know and that's why he's not accompanying us." I glance over and see her shake her head. I grin.
"Yeah yeah Sheldon is fine. He is quite independent you know."
Y/N sighs. "Yeah I know. He's good at writing letters on his own."
I perk up. "Agreed. I believe you may have received one."
She turns to me with an eyebrow raised. "You know sometimes I wonder if you actually wrote that card."
I put a hand over my chest. "It's insulting you believe I have the creative prowess to merely put stickers on a card."
She laughs.
"I didn't write that card! I'm just not that romantic type. I- well I'm not sure what I am. But if you like that- I can try to write you something..." I trail off as she wags her finger at me.
"I'm just messing with you Dee! Don't change who you are for me. I love you for who you are, nerdiness and lack of emotional awareness." She says playfully.
I sigh and sit back and glance out the window again. "Apologies, I am just always trying to please you."
Y/N sighs too. "You didn't have a very high bar to replace my old boyfriend so, you're doing great."
I tense a little at the mention of him. Before Y/N and I were seeing each other, I didn't know the whole story.
And now I do. And I've seldom felt the sheer bitterness and disgust I feel towards that individual ever in my life. He leaves a nasty taste in my mouth.
If he were around here...
"Donnie?"
I blink a few times and see Y/N glancing at me. "Sorry-"
I try to relax. "No need for sorries." I hesitate for a second and lean over to kiss her temple.
She smiles and changes the subject. "I think you're gonna love this place."
Y/N POV:
The car begins its rocky ascent up the long driveway to the cabin.
"Wow you can see it Donnie!" I exclaim, pointing and Donnie leans forward.
The trees reveal our cabin for the next few days. While it is night outside, the headlights give us a good enough view.
I park in front and before I can make another move Donnie reaches over me and lays on the horn.
I gasp and he presses it down for several seconds before leaning back and looking at me.
A second of silence passes, and he clicks his tongue, clearly disappointed that I didn't know why he did that.
"To scare the bears away~" he hums, like it was obvious, throwing his hands up in a dramatic way.
I scoff and softly push him. "Yeah I loved the warning with that. Can I get out now?"
Donnie chuckles again, and opens his door. "Allow me to do a quick scan of the area it should only take a moment."
He slides out and just looks around the car into the woods.
I grin. He's such a nerd.
From inside the car I can hear the bugs and frogs.
And I catch a glimpse of the night sky.
I gasp and jump out of the car without a second thought.
I take a few steps away and throw my head back to see the stars.
It's breathtaking. I can see entire galaxies, the night sky was so full and colorful. The starry painting spread across the whole night sky.
I hear Donnie say "huh?" And moments later his footsteps approach me.
"Y/N! I did not affirm it was safe out here yet!" He says, throwing his hands in the hair and joining me.
I just look at him, my eyes wide and curious.
Donnie's expression relaxes. I reach over and tilt his chin up.
He's quiet.
We both stand and soak in the starry night, in silence. He puts an arm around my waist protectively and pulls me closer to him. Instinctively I rest my head on his chest.
After what feels like half an hour, I move in front of him slightly.
"Donnie... have you ever seen stars in person like this?"
Donnie slowly looks back at me. He's blinking starry eyed. I've never seen his eyes hold so much emotion- not since we kissed on the rooftop.
"No." Is all he croaked out.
And so we turned the car off, and climbed on top of the car roof, and he had his arm around me as we sat under the night sky.
It was comforting. That we had each other in this scary, but magical world.
