10 Character Flaws of A List of 100 Character Flaws
This comes to you from The Youtube channel of a Young Man named Jed Herne.
And he offered a free copy of some of the things he talks about by email and I''ve seen several people not recognize normal real life character flaws in storybook characters and so I want to make some of them way more obvious to you.
I will do this discussing ten flaws per chapter.
Yes I changed my mind I'm not ready to jump back into good or bad dialogue 3 & 4 rounds yet my brain is exhausted.
1. Greed. (Everyone knows about greed it is one of the many constant driving forces of many different Villains through media and shows)
Greed is an intense and selfish desire for something especially wealth and power being the most common things used to build up the reasons why, but loss can also be motivation for greed as well. And before I go any farther I would like to mention some of these character flaws can overlap into each other creating quite a complex Negative Character. General Grievous and Valtor are excellent greedy characters who are motivated by power and loss.)
Why is this flaw interesting? Greed drives some characters to extreme measures pushing the limits of limits of law and reality. This flaw can lead to thrilling and unpredictable plot events. Pretty much anything that makes one self centered can cause the Greed flaw too for example Claude Frollo his lust is greedy and his need to be right is also greedy.
Simba also has a flaw of greed and self centeredness not just by bragging and boasting to Scar about his rite of passage as the next King but he also does it to Zazu too The I Can't Wait To Be A King Song is a self centered greedy song of Simba's. He is also greedy for the sake of his curiosity.) (He makes up for that mistake though by trying to rescue Zazu from the hyenas because he knows his Father would have been much madder if an official friend of the family died because of him.)
Anakin's need to win to constantly prove himself right strengthens his hatred and greed. Greed is never pointed out as a flaw in the Jedi Council but it is all through the Senate and the Banking Clan and there is a line in the clone wars tv series that shows out the greed lingering inside in Anakin's character because it is a self centered line and tied in deeply with one of his actual misbeliefs.
"The Separatists believe the Republic is Corrupt which they are wrong; it is not, and we have to restore order." -Anakin Skywalker the Clone Wars Series Season 2 Episode 10 and he's passing along this bias remark to his Padwaan Ahoska in front of Padmé and Padmé knows his remark is bias which is why she decides not to let him get involved at this time.
As you can see the book example is the infamous Scrooge in A Christmas Carol.
Key questions to ask yourself before writing this type of Character: How does his greed manifest in daily life?
What traumatic or shaping events caused this greed?
What relationships have been affected by his avarice?
2nd Character Flaw: Cowardice is a Character Flaw.
Cowardice means to have a lack of bravery or courage. Aliza in LynetteMiller932 story Cold Hands & Warm Heart: A Tale of Two Sister did this character flaw so well in her book that I read it. It's good.
Cowardice can set a character up for growth and even in some cases redemption aka Boromir in The Lord of the Rings, Stormy in The Trix trio of the Winx Club she is very cowardice to speak up against her sister teammates, thus in turning making her story for her character a deep and complex narrative.
Questions to Consider before you write this type of character flaw for characters.
What makes them fearful? How do they cope with their fears? How has their cowardice affected their other relationships with others?
3. Jealousy (Now I have corrected the definition of this one. Because Jealous and Enviously and Jealous and Envious come from two different groups of descriptive words and have two totally different meanings and yet nobody bothers to recognize the truthful meaning of the words jealous and jealousy. To be jealous you already have to have what you already need to be jealous of losing it. The thing that creates jealous in you and envy in others because when others seek it you feel threatened out of fear.
Jealousy based off of the root of fearfulness. It's better synonym in the Bible is Zealous they're are spelled almost exact same way. Enviously is a descriptive adverb due to the ly add on which Jealous does not have which makes the word jealousy a descriptive adjective.
Jealousy means to be protective and fearful of the fact that anything you might lose what you own or feel towards someone important to you you're close to like their affection for you can be replaced by another is to be jealous of another and not always a sin. To be too clingy though to another person and never spend time in their hobbies isn't jealousy or being envious it is be obviously oppressive.
God is Zealous over his people meaning he will always protect us because he has always shown faithful care for our protection. A husband should be zealous for his wife's safety and love and affection meaning he should care about her safety and love her admiration and affection. And The wife should return those feelings but unfortunately society has twisted this good word's actual meaning into a flat out often unrecognizable lie. My oldest brother still today is one of the oldest people I know who still uses the actual old timey definitions of both words.)
Jealousy is only a flaw if you let yourself cling too hard to people and forget they have freewill and they can make their own choices that is the extreme negative of the consequence of Jealousy and even Jesus was not clingy around his Disciples nor the crowds around him when he had preached.
Season 2 episode 4 The Clone Wars Anakin is jealous and zealous because he fears losing Padmé's affection to Clovis something he already he has in the bag: something he already possessed. This is the correct form of jealousy. His clinginess in Revenge of the Sith is what makes his jealousy bad but it never once turned into envy. So you can never say Darth Vader was an envious villain because he never was.
I will repeat these pictures when we get to the flaw of envy. This is another pet peeve I have with books and tv shows and stupid media. lylly_purple_ranger
Why do jealousy clingy characters become so clingy?
This is an interesting flaw because it creates drama and tension within Relationships. Riven's and Sky's behavior in Season 4 towards their girlfriends are Zealous Jealous behaviors not envious behaviors actually.
Even Jason outright gives us and Musa's and Riven's real causes of the couple's disagreements description Musa's affection is being stolen away by her career as a musician and the appreciation she receives from fans on Earth and her weird side affections for Jason just because he complimented her once one time to her face is why Riven gets so constructively critical with her. Riven cannot be called envious or obnoxious in that Season because that is the opposite of what he is doing and to saying he wasn't doing the opposite is the hypocritical misbelief of Musa's.
Roy isn't envious either in Season 6 while he knows he does have some friendly feelings for her; he knows she is capable of making the right decision and has her own free will to make her own choices about boyfriends. Roy's jealousy zealous behavior is over the protection of his best friends who just got insulted by Nex because Nex insulted the Specialists by bragging about himself when Riven bragged it was usually within the form of a joke except with the fight with Bloom and Stella. Nex has a bigger ego to fight off than Riven ever did, Skylights. Stella was being a harassment to Riven and the boys in Black Mud Swamp episode 4 Season 1 so Stella equally deserved all his equal comebacks.
Bloom defended herself in the Rose Festival episode but both characters' selfish pride were shattered in that fight. Bloom's pride does come back but Riven's selfish pride never returns in the rest of the series. And even Bloom notices it in Season 6 when she calls his name out before he walks out the gate. Meaning she forgave not only herself but him
as well finally since their first and only fight 5 Seasons ago.
4. Impulsiveness or Impulsivity is a common character flaw.
Something Aisha has in World of Winx spinoff.
Impulsivity is acting without thought or careful consideration of the consequences.
Why is this flaw interesting? It can drive the plot in unpredictable ways, reveal hidden aspects of a character's personality. Some of this is a side byproduct of Apparent Excessive Anger or Repressed Anger (Aisha's has a lot of repressed anger towards the dangers caused by the Queen of Dreams. People mistake Repressed Anger and Nonviolent anger as the same reactions they are not.

But it is not just actions that are impulsive there is a verbal form of impulsiveness and Stella gives us a great example of it when it is verbally done with her first fight with Bloom and Stella never ever means it in anyway as a joke itself.

This is a verbal case of impulsivity and Stella's impulsivity returns to bother Aisha in later seasons by insisting she get a new boyfriend or let her play dress-up again. Both instances in later seasons are just a Season and a half apart. Pyrix_Fairy you may not have realized this about Stella's character from Season 1 but it has always been around since the very first Season of Winx.
What prompts their impulsive actions? Have they ever helped or hidden the characters who display these flaws? What consequences arise from their impulsive actions?
5. Perfectionism is indeed a fatal character flaw.
After all it is not what you would like to be but who those on the universe around you need you to be, Skylights.
The difference between Aisha, Stella and Musa is that Aisha was never a perfectionist from the beginning.
Stella is a perfectionist in Beauty and Fashion, while she doesn't yet grow out of the Beauty Perfectionism she does grow out of being a Perfectionist of the Fashion trends thanks to Brandon.
Musa tries hard to make her mental thoughts always be perfectly ideal that is a dangerous form of Perfectionism When You Think such thing Imperfectly Perfect Mental Thoughts then There is No Such Thing As Perfect Imagination. This is Musa's misbelief and struggle part of which occurs through her Inbound Anger for not releasing it yet she becomes Passive Aggressive to Riven whenever he opens his mouth since after their first decent conversation was back in Season 2 in the Charmix Power episode and it only continues to get worse.
While Stella's Perfectionism is much shallower and quicker to resolve.
In Season 6 she realized she wasn't going to be always right a problem she had in Season 4 when the love triangle with Mitzi drama thing happened.
And actually being okay with her parents still being split too.
And not pressuring Aisha into finding another boyfriend.
6. Dependence: Over-reliance often leading to a lack of independence and self confidence.
Dependent characters: Stella in Miss Magix episode all versions, Lucy in all those same episodes.
Bloom is dependent on Sky within Season 2 & 3 for him to be understanding and more tolerant and less critical about her behavior around other men. Season 3 has nothing to do with understanding three it is just Bloom's negative dependence arc when she loses her boyfriend to a spell.
In Season 3 during the whole Andros crisis dilemma Aisha is dependent on her friends to keep her safe during her blindness in the Sea of Courage in a good way.
Aisha and Bloom's dependence for each other is strong in their trying to walk into the portal shows exactly how powerful their friendship has become over the years, Skylights.
