Chapter 229 - Boss Gu Stared at the Medicines on the Screen. They Looked so Disgustingly Familiar (1)

Albeit the fact that Uncle De wasn't one of high status within the clan, but because he was of the elder generation, most in the clan was respectful to him. He had always bragged that even the clan leader was respectful to him. Now, being shouted at by someone outside of the clan in front of everyone, he was so angry that he almost dropped dead right then and there. To make matters worse, as wealthy as Fang JunRong was, he never regarded her as someone of any importance.

"You, you..."

Fang JunRong gave him a look and said, "If you have problems with stuttering, you need to go see a doctor about it. There is no need to embarrass yourself like so."

"Madam Fang, Uncle De is, after all, from a generation above you. Don't you think it's only right to be respectful to him?" Another man around his age, probably a cousin of his, also stepped up from next to Zhang ZhiYang.

Fang JunRong gave him a slight smile. "I am unable to drum up any respect who thinks they can behave however they want just because of their age. I was the one who asked for it."

Zhang ZhiYang was about to get internal injury from all of his pig teammates around him. He finally couldn't help but shouted out angrily, "Alright, you all. Stop talking already."

He had done so much to mend the fences with Fang JunRong and now all had been ruined. It made him want to cough out 3 liters of blood.

Fang JunRong was all out today. She turned toward Zhang ZhiSu and said to him, "Must be a tough job for you being the head of a group of pigs."

She was only here for the drama. But if they insisted on dragging her in, then they would have to suffer the consequences. She wouldn't want to give the impression that she was a pushover.

Zhang ZhiSu's answer was quite interesting as well. "Oh, you get used to it." He never denied the fact that it was but a group of pigs surrounding Zhang ZhiYang.

Zhang ZhiYang looked from one of them to the other dubiously. He was even more anxious now. Did these two somehow mend their fences without him knowing? If that was the case, then his advantage was gone. That thought flustered him and he said to Uncle De and the other man, "Stop talking and mucking things up for me."

Uncle De had hoped that Zhang ZhiYang would defend him some. Being faceslapped like that in front of others made his face stiffened.

Zhang ZhiSu only found that funny. Their alliance was even weaker than he had imagined. Or, it wasn't entirely fair to say that. In the end of the day, Zhang ZhiYang did not dare to offend Fang JunRong. Slowly but surely, Fang JunRong had become someone that nobody dared to underestimate.

He put on his solemn look once again and said, "Stop dreaming about the position of the clan leader. If you are so disgruntled about me, you can branch off and start on your own. That way I won't be able to stand between you and your fortune." This was a great opportunity to get rid of this side branch. That way he would no longer need to waste any more time and effort to keep them under control and watch out for any criminal activities that might engage in without the knowledge of the clan.

Sometimes, one must bite the bullet and rid oneself of the bed seeds.

Zhang ZhiYang narrowed his eyes and looked at Zhang ZhiSu quizzically. The Zhang family had 12 branches with first and second branches being the main ones. All the others were considered as side branches. He had seven branches on his side right now. If they were to split up, Zhang ZhiSu would stand to lose a lot of his power right away. Would he really be able to part with that much of his power?

The benefits of branching out was obvious. Without Zhang ZhiSu above them, he could do as he pleased and not have to worry about Zhang ZhiSu benefiting from his actions. In addition, branching out also sounded better in the ears of the outsiders. He would not have to bear the burden of orchestrating a mutiny.

Then there was Fang JunRong. Whose side was she really one? That was also a question that was weighting on him.

His expression changed over and over again; he was obviously undergoing some inner turmoil.

Zhang ZhiSu's tone was calm as usual but all could tell the hint of threat hidden within. "If you really couldn't go through with it, I am going to have to do what I need to do. Take the piece of property on the south or the shopping center over at Shenghe for example..."

His casual words made Zhang ZhiYang and the other's faces dropped right away. Every body had a weakness or two after all these years of being in the business. They would like to do a quid pro quo as well but, when they really thought about it, they noticed sadly that nobody had any leverage against Zhang ZhiSu. He surely hid his tracks well. Or that he had been watching out for them from the very get go?

That realization gave Zhang ZhiYang's group long faces.

Zhang ZhiSu smiled at them slightly and said, "What do you think?"

He may have looked like a very easy-going one but nobody dared to underestimate him now.

Seeing that Zhang ZhiSu had easily taken the lead back, Fang JunRong sat back down and went back to enjoying the drama.

"You are right."

Zhang ZhiYang forced a smile on himself after a long while. When he smiled, part of his canine teeth could be seen, which gave him a hint of cute childishness. Nevertheless, as far as Fang JunRong was concerned, he could be the most handsome man under the sun but the thought of him causing her brother to go bankrupt in her previous life made him deplorable to her.

As far as the Zhang family was concerned, this was a rare occasion of some many of them being in the same room. It was quite a good opportunity to discuss about branching off.

And Fang JunRong finally figured out the purpose of her being there – to be a witness. She had surely witnessed the wealth behind the Zhang family. There were sure a family that had been around for generations. The family's real estate alone was in the hundreds of billions of yuan range, not including anything other types of assets. No wonder Zhang ZhiYang wanted so badly to replace Zhang ZhiSu.

Both sides had their lawyers present and it was another round of arguments.

It was already late at night and Fang JunRong figured that it would be at least a day or two before they could figure out how they wanted to split their assets. She might as well head home first and come back to witness the finally signing.

***

She returned to the Zhang family on the 9th to witness the historical moment.

After the agreement had been signed, Zhang ZhiYang left with the other six branches. They took away 42% of the assets in total. The rest went to Zhang ZhiSu and the remaining four branches.

From the eyes of an outsider, Zhang ZhiSu was hurting badly.

Looking at the nonchalant Zhang ZhiSu, even Fang JunRong had to feel suspicious: Did Zhang ZhiSu planned it purposefully? That he had picked to split from Zhang ZhiYang and the others right right before the medicines were launched onto the market? Why else would it happen right now? Zhang ZhiYang had probably been wrapped around his little finger this entire time.

Seeing how happy Zhang ZhiYang looked after the contract was signed, Fang JunRong lit a candle for him silently.

Zhang ZhiYang said to Fang JunRong, "We will be hosting a clan celebration in the next day or two. I wonder if Miss Fang might have time to join us."

He had, once again, reached out the olive branch to Fang JunRong.

Fang JunRong had a complicated look on her. "When?"

"March 12," said Zhang ZhiYang. He had paid for a fortune teller to find this perfect date. His plan was to invite guests of status and show them his power and, through that, to also calm the new clan members. He wanted to let everyone know that choosing to follow him was the right decision and he also wanted Zhang ZhiSu to regret for what he had done. He had hated Zhang ZhiSu since childhood. Both of them were born to the main branch but Zhang ZhiSu received all the perks simply because he was the older of the two of them.

Fang JunRong had an interesting look on her. Zhang ZhiYang sure knew how to pick the right time. He picked the day that the new medicines were to be launched. Why would he want to do that to himself?

Of course she would not attend. She worried that she would be beat up had she showed up.

She shook her head. "I will be otherwise engaged that day. Enjoy your celebration."

Zhang ZhiYang frowned slightly but there was nothing that he could do to force Fang JunRong into attending their event. As such, he had to take the high road. "I hope we will have the pleasure next year."

Fang JunRong felt that there would not be a next year. She finally couldn't help herself and asked, "Who was this master fortuneteller that you have hired?" She should avoid this person. Their ability had a lot of room to be desired.

Zhang ZhiYang provided the person's name and contact information to Fang JunRong. He wasn't too happy Fang JunRong wouldn't be joining their celebrations but the thought of soon becoming the housemaster superseded everything else. That was particularly so when everybody surrounded him as thought he was the center of the universe. That sense of superiority made him felt like the was walking around weightlessly on cloud nine.

His excitement lasted all the way up to the 12th of the month. His networking with the medicine had worked very well for him lately. Many guests attended his celebration in person for his sake and the event was very lively.

All of the clan members who had chosen to follow Zhang ZhiYang witnessed how all these big shots smiling so much that their eyes could barely be seen. They trusted they could go very far under Zhang ZhiYang's leadership.

Each guest, as they were congratulating Zhang ZhiYang, also hinted at him that the medications that they had received from him were running low.

Zhang ZhiYang maintained the smile on him but, recalling Fang JunRong's indifferent attitude, he couldn't help but fret a little. It was as though a bucket of iced water had been dumped on him.

His eyes dimmed a little. He couldn't be controlled by someone else like that. One way or another, he needed to get the formula for the medicines. He had been replying on the Zhang family but who would have thought that the Zhang family would be so weak and, to this date, had nothing to show for it other than wasting all the medicines that he had provided to them.

Fang JunRong had a son and a daughter, as well as Zhong Yi, her adopted daughter. Fang JunRong might seem nice to her adopted daughter but that was most likely just for show. If he was to plot against her, he would have to target either Li ShiZe or Li XinYun. So which one should he pick?

Fang JunRong had always put on a front that she had severed her ties with her son and had always known to be a mother who doted on her daughter. Nevertheless, perhaps Li XinYun was just the front used to distract others and that Li ShiZe was the one she was truly trying to protect. It was he would have done if he was her.

As far as that was concerned, Fang JunRong was quite the woman.

After mulling over it for a little bit, he made his decision.

"Zhiyang, why are you spacing out over?"

Zhang ZhiYang recollected himself and toasted with the other person. "Oh, nothing just. Just recalled something was all." The person who approached him was the President of the Gu's Corporation who had been closed with Zhang ZhiYang as of late.

"You know how the staying goes – one starts their family first then launch their business. Your business had been launched already. Do you think you should start giving a family a thought? My wife has a nice who is very virtuous. Would you like to meet her over dinner sometime?"

Zhang ZhiYang gave him a reserved smile and said, "Sure."

Boss Gu, seeing that Zhang ZhiYang had accepted the invitation, was about to brag some more when his secretary walked over to him hastily and whispered something into his ears.

Boss Gu's face dropped right away and he searched on his phone right away. He opened up a website and quickly found the video clip that he was looking for. A little while later, the announcer's clearly articulated words could be heard.

"... ... Gaoyuan Corporation had launched two new medicines today. One of them is the White Jade Cream and has the ability to enhance bone and muscle growth. The other one is Detoxification Pills. Per research, it has amazing success toward treating snake and scorpion poisons, etc. White Jade Cream goes for 888 yuan for a bottle and the Detoxification Pills, 518 yuan. The press conference will be held at 9 AM tomorrow and more about these two medicines will be discussed."

Boss Gu stared intensely at the screen. The two bottles of medications were so familiar. Disgustingly familiar, in fact.
