The sun rose over a beautiful landscape, as Barley drove Guinevere.

The road was full of bumps, but barley didn’t mind, singing happily to his heart’s content.

We're heading on a quest

Our father we must retrieve

The Lightfoot brothers, and their fair maiden can't be stopped

Something, something

That rhymes with retrieve

Barley went over another bump, making Ian roll over, falling on [Y/n] who groaned.

“Ugh!”

“I am so sorry.” Ian apologized.

“It’s alright. Just please get……oof!” [Y/n] groaned again, as Will tripped and fell on Ian.

Ian laughed a bit, making [Y/n] do the same. The stare at each other a bit, until Barley went over another bump, making the two teens bump their foreheads.

“Ouch!”

Will then stood up and tapped Ian with his foot.

“Yeah, we're still here.” Ian said, as his Dad walked to the front.

“Well, good morning to thee, dear Lightfoot men, and fair maiden.”

Barley said, tapping his Dad’s foot which was placed on his shoulder, as Ian helped [Y/n] up.

“Welcome to the Path of Peril.”

“Wow, what a beautiful landscape. I’ve got to take a picture.”

[Y/n] took out her tablet, taking pictures as they drove along.

“It's not much of a path.” Ian said as they drove along the rocky road.

“Well, you know, they never really developed around here. So, heads up, we could run into anything. A centicore, wolf dragon, gelatinous cube.”

“Okay, what is a gelatinous cube?” [Y/n] asked, pausing her picture taking for a moment.

“Oh, it's a giant green cube that instantly disintegrates all that it touches.” Barley answered, looking back at them.

“We are not gonna run into a... Oh! Stop!” Ian yelled.

Guinevere reached the very edge of a cliff, before Barley brought her to a stop.

Barley drove back, stopping at a safe distance.

The teens came down from the vehicle, coming to stand at the edge.

“What is this?” Ian asked.

“Bottomless pit. Whatever falls in there, falls forever.” Barley replied.

Will walked forward and the teens gasped, [Y/n] holding him back, but his legs walk forward almost falling down, but Barley picked him up.

“Aw, Dad, come here.” Ian said, taking Will back to the van.

Barley raised his head to see a wooden structure on the other side.

“Ian, check it out.

“This is an ancient drawbridge. We lower that bad boy and we are on our way to Raven's Point.” Barley said as Ian walked over.

“Look around for a lever.”

The teens looked around.

“Found it.” [Y/n] said. “But it's on the other side.”

“Okay, I got this.” Ian said, gripping his staff tightly.

“Aloft Elevar.” Ian casted the spell, but it faded away into thin air.

Barley laughed.

“You can't cast a levitation spell on something that far away. It only has, like, a 15-meter enchanting radius. Dad, can you believe this guy?”

Ian and [Y/n] exchanged a look.

“What we need is a Trust Bridge. It's a spell that creates a magical bridge you can walk on.” Barley described.

“Just say Bridgrigar Invisia.”

“Okay. Bridgrigar Invisia.” Ian repeated.

“Bridgrigar Invisia!” Ian chanted, making the top of the staff glow a light blue.

“It doesn’t look like it worked.” [Y/n] said.

“No, the spell's still going. You won't know if your bridge worked until you step on it.” Barley said.

“Step on what?” Ian asked.

“If you believe the bridge is there, then it's there.”

“But it's not.” Ian argued.

“Well, not with that attitude.”

“I'm not gonna step out onto nothing.”

Barley taught for a moment, then snapped his fingers getting an idea.

“Now we've got a rope.” Barley said, as [Y/n] finished tying the rope to Ian’s waist, the other end tied to a strong rock.

“But you're not gonna even need it because...…”

“I want the rope!” Ian said terrified.

“Okay. I'm just saying you're not gonna need the rope, because I know you can make that bridge.” Barley said smiling at Ian.

Ian turned to [Y/n] who smiled at him and gave him a kiss on his cheek, whispering,

“Deep breath.”

Ian looked down the pit anxiously, and then took a deep breath. He held his staff firmly in his hand and then stepped over the pit, but then he fell, making [Y/n] gasp as he screamed.

“I'm dying! I'm dying! I'm dead! I'm dead! I'm dead! Oh, my life is over.”

Barley pulled him up.

“I got you.”

Ian froze up as his feet met solid ground.

“Okay, you fell. But was that so bad?” Barley asked.

“Yes!” Ian exclaimed annoyed.

“Are you still alive?”

“Yes.” He answered defeated.

“Okay, so now you know the worst that can happen. So, there's nothing to be scared of, right?” Barley said, patting Ian’s shoulder.

Ian took another deep breath.

“Bridgrigar Invisia!” The top of the staff started glowing again.

Ian looked down the pit again, gulping.

“Hey. You can do this.” Barley said confidently.

“Yeah Ian, you’ve got this.” [Y/n] added.

Ian nodded, turning back to the edge.

He furrowed his eyes determinately, and then closed his eyes, taking a step forward.

He didn’t fall, he created the bridge.

“Yeah!” He cheered.

“Whoo hoo! Go Ian!” [Y/n] cheered.

“There you go!” Barley said.

Ian took another step forward, but then lost his footing, making Barley panic and tug him back.

“Believe with every step.” Barley said.
Ian let out a puff of air, taking another step forward.

“Oh, yeah!” Barley cheered as [Y/n] clapped excitedly.

Ian then continued walking.

“You've got me, right?” Ian asked.

“I still got you.” Barley answered.

“Yes! Ian Lightfoot is fearless.”

But then, the rope round Ian’s waist started to loosen up.

Barley and [Y/n] gasp in horror.

“This is amazing!” Ian exclaimed.

“Yeah! But just keep going.” Barley said as the rope fell.

“Yeah Ian. Don't look back. Just straight ahead.” [Y/n] added, as her hands started shaking.

“You've still got the rope, right?” Ian asked, making [Y/n] gulp.

“Yeah, I got it.” Barley answered honestly, because technically, the rope was still in his hands, just not around Ian's waist.

“I am not afraid!” Ian yelled confidently.

“Oh, man, I could stay out here all day. Huh. Huh.” Ian said, bouncing on each foot.

“Ah ah. Um okay Ian, I’m sure you’re having so much fun walking on air, but can you keep moving?” [Y/n] said shaking slightly.

“[Y/n]’s right Ian. We've gotta see Dad, remember?” Barley added, the rope held firmly in his hand.

Ian laughed.

“Hey, Dad, this last step is for you.” Ian said as he was about to step on the other side.

He looked back to see [Y/n]'s scared look, and the rope in Barley’s hand.
Ian panicked.

The staff stopped glowing and Ian fell.

“Ahh!”

“Ian!”

But thankfully, he caught a small rock, and pulled himself up to the other side, making Barley and [Y/n] sigh in relief.

Ian slightly panted and absentmindedly pushed the lever, lowering the bridge.

“Oh. He did it, Dad.” Barley said excitedly, as he and [Y/n] ran back to the van, and drove over the bridge to the other side.

“That was amazing.” Barley said grabbing Ian, who’s hand was still on the lever.

“How long was the rope gone?” Ian asked, as [Y/n] came to stand next to them.

“Oh, just, like, the second half of it.” Barley replied with a cheeky grin.

“I needed that rope.” Ian said.

“Oh, but did you?” Barley asked smirking, and then walked away.

Ian went back to the cliff, looking down, and then smiled slightly.

[Y/n] came to stand next to him, and then slowly took his hand, making Ian turn to her.

“He’s right you know. You were doing perfectly fine. You’re becoming more confident with every step of this journey, and that’s really amazing.” [Y/n] said honestly.

He smiled wider, and squeezed her hand that was in his.
