chapter seven
three months.
Greyson and Renesmee were growing too fast.
It was almost impossible to track the rate of their growth. Some days were different than others— and then came the fact that Greyson was still growing slower than his cousin.
They were both around a week old when they said their first word. Both of their first words were 'momma,' which should have made both Bella and Christina ecstatic— and they would have been if it wasn't for the initial fear of them growing up too fast. Carlisle had taken to measuring them three times a day since they would both grow during the day without fail.
At three weeks old, they took their first steps. It was so effortless when Greyson stood up from coloring with his sister to walk towards his mother. She was completely frozen when he climbed into her lap as she cuddled into Carlisle's side. He took his usual place against her chest and fell asleep; both making her heart clench from love and fear.
It scared her how much he learned from just watching everyone around him— Renesmee was the same way. Renesmee was just more silent about it. She liked to talk, but in her special way with contact. Greyson, on the other hand, wouldn't stop talking as soon as he was able to make a full sentence. It was uncanny watching two, what appeared to be, one to two-year-olds walking around and talking perfectly.
Edward and Carlisle had thrown themselves into research and more research; trying to find any kind of answers to their worries. Most of the information they found wasn't credible, with no real evidence to say it was the same situation or outcome.
Rosalie and Alice were determined to make each child a photo album with the multitudes of different outfits they were changed into per day. They would need the outfit changes since they would grow out the first outfit they started out in from the morning.
At three months old, both kids have changed out of their baby features. They stood tall against the wall as Carlisle documented more data with a low sigh. Christina bit her granite lip as Nessie ran off towards Jacob, while Greyson went back to playing with Annie in the living room.
"How do I have a six and a seven-year-old?" Christina muttered softly, looking at both of their children play tag around the living room— Greyson cheating wildly from his vampire abilities.
Carlisle sighed as he brought the brunette into a side hug; she responded by wrapping her arms around his middle, snuggling her head into his neck.
Annie had just recently celebrated her birthday, aging Christina past her vampire frozen year. She knew if she was human, she would be searching wildly for gray hair, feeling old as they celebrated her seventh birthday. It didn't help that Greyson was right behind her in physical appearance.
Renesmee looked to be about Annie's age, around seven years old, still growing at a faster rate— even if the growing process was indeed slowing down. They no longer grew and needed to be measured three times a day. Especially Greyson, he grew every day, while Renesmee grew twice a day. The young girl hated it when it was time to be measured, seeing the frowns looking at her when she grew once again. Greyson didn't mind it as much, trying to grow taller than Renesmee; already feeling the manly challenge. Christina liked to blame it on him hanging out with Emmett and Jasper too much.
Even though the growth of their body had begun to slow, their minds continued to grow with knowledge. Greyson had begun to learn football with his uncles, easily passing under their legs with the ball in his hands. He had grown to be as fast as the rest of the Cullens, even if he was still part human. Greyson learned how to read suddenly, looking over Carlisle's shoulder as he was doing research one day.
"What does 'intercourse' mean?" Greyson asked out loud.
Christina had stubbed her toe into the corner of the kitchen counter at his question. The impact from her hitting her toe didn't hurt, but learning of Greyson's latest trick did.
"Where did you hear that word?" Christina asked, anger filling her chest at the thought of Emmett saying dirty words around her kids.
Greyson silently pointed to the computer; another theory from down South of legends about vampire babies on the screen. Carlisle immediately minimized it once he noticed Greyson reading from behind him.
"It's an adult word," Christina answered with a deep sigh. Her anger was replaced with sadness at her growing baby. "Don't repeat it."
"Okay, Momma."
By Carlisle's calculations, both kids would be an adult in four years. The kids would past their parent's frozen age at just four years, before becoming old by the time they reached fifteen years. A very short fifteen years. That news was nothing but depressing for Christina and Bella. None of the adults tried to show their concern to the kids, but sometimes it was inevitable— that time being one of them.
Much like Greyson did when he was younger whenever his mother was upset, he placed his hand on her chest, above her forever silent heart. He would try to push his healing ability into his mother's chest, healing her broken heart— which only made her sob more as she brought him in for a hug.
Greyson's power had leveled up— as well as Christina's. The mother of two was amused as Carlisle switched his documenting towards her, trying to find the extent of her and their son's power. So far, it seemed they were right about Christina's power being able to create life. One of the tests she did was hold a bunch of flower seeds in her hand, and try to concentrate her power into it.
The Cullens watched in amazement as the flowers bloomed in her hand.
Greyson was able to heal any living being. They were a power duo when they practiced their gifts. Christina would bloom flowers in her hand before crushing them and giving them to Greyson. He would hold the flowers in his hand before bringing them back to life— like they were never destroyed in the first place.
It came to Christina's surprise when Greyson and she would go hunting and the deer that he took down would be healed and running away as nothing happened. She had expressed her worry to Carlisle— first asking him if it was possible for deers to become vampires. He laughed, but when explained why she was concerned, he turned intrigued.
It would seem that either Greyson isn't venomous like they first thought— or when he healed the being from his bite, he would also heal the venom from their veins. They weren't about to do any experiments to find out what answer was correct.
Greyson had explained the reason behind his healing the animal was because he didn't like the thought of hurting the animal. Christina smiled at her son, proud that he was so compassionate. She was convinced that he got that from his father, who's never consumed one drop of human blood in his vampire life.
The other difference from the cousins was that Greyson preferred drinking animal blood, being able to heal his prey after drinking just enough to fill him. Even though, they had to feed them blood bags when they were babies; Greyson admired his father and mother's restriction from human blood and wanted to be like them.
"He didn't like animal blood when he was in my stomach," Christina had grumbled, only making Bella chuckle in amusement.
Renesmee, on the other hand, preferred to drink out of blood bags. Though, Jacob and Greyson have been able to make it a competition every time they went out hunting. A competition to see who could take out the biggest prey. She enjoyed the competition enough to stop complaining about the blood she was ingesting.
Both kids were able to eat human food still— which Christina also tried, curious to know if her pregnancy appetite was a permanent thing. She didn't enjoy it as much as when she was human or pregnant, but it wasn't dirt like the rest of the Cullens warned. Only bringing up the theory again that she was still partly human from her power, and Greyson got his humanity from her.
"Grey, don't stray too far," Christina warned as they walked through the woods for another hunting trip for the kids. Since they were continually growing, they needed to hunt every day, if they don't consume human food in between.
"Okay, Momma!" he shouted as he chased Nessie around the trees.
Christina sighed as they played in between the trees. Their laughter got louder as Seth came bounding out of the trees hearing them playing. Jacob shook his big wolf head at his pack member.
Greyson jumped onto Seth's back as he raced around the clearing between the trees. Christina knew that her warning to be careful would be useless— neither Seth nor Greyson could get too hurt that she needed to be worried as she would be with Annie.
Nessie jumped into the air, easily catching a snowflake in her hand. She landed with a bright smile as she raced towards the three adults. She opened her hand to Bella, excitedly showing her the full snowflake that was now melting in her hand.
"It's beautiful," Bella commented. Nessie smiled at the compliment before taking back off into the field to catch another.
"Edward and Carlisle think that we'll find answers in Brazil," Bella muttered towards Jacob. He nodded his big head at her. "There are tribes there that might know of something."
"They have old legends about half-demons," Christina continued softly. "Carlisle thinks that they're supposed to be about vampires."
A quick flash of blonde on the mountain in front of them brought the adults' attention away from the children surrounding them. Nessie fell back to her feet on the ground as Jacob stood closer to her, growling towards the mountain.
"Who is that?" Nessie asked, hugging Jacob's neck.
"I think that's our cousin from Denali," Christina answered, seeing the familiar features. "Irina!"
Irina lifted her lip over her teeth as she stared at the two wolves, before setting her eyes on the two children with another snarl. She was quick to turn away from the scene and run in the opposite direction.
Christina cursed. "Take the kids back to the house," she ordered before disappearing from view. She ran through the trees easily dodging each branch and root. She hopped her way up the mountain before landing where Irina was just standing. She furrowed her brows as she walked to the edge of the cliff, looking down towards the open ocean, seeing a ripple in place where Irina jumped.
Christina bit her granite lip in worry before turning back around and racing towards the house; feeling her undead heart clench with anxiety.
