chapter five
returning home.

Christina ran her fingers down Carlisle's bare chest as they listened to the animals wake up with the sun. The warm glow resting on the brunette's back as it showed itself over the ocean. She sighed, keeping her eyes closed as the warmth settled on her bare back. It was the simple moments like this that made the honeymoon special. She enjoyed the quiet mornings, resting in each other's embrace, tickling each other with soft touches and caresses.

"Would you like to go into town today?" Carlisle whispered into Christina's hair.

She smiled brightly as she looked up at him. He took that as a positive answer.

She disappeared into the bathroom, leaving a laughing Carlisle in bed. Her fingers ran over an unfamiliar ivory dress with confusion. It was the bag she had yet to touch in the time spent at the island. It still had a price tag on the bottom, and Christina shook her head with a short laugh.

"Alice," she concluded. The dress was beautiful and simple, perfect for a day out to town. She glanced out the window to see that the sky was outcast, so she grabbed a hat in case the sun decided to come out.

She changed quickly before meeting Carlisle downstairs. He smiled as he saw her appear in his view. "Ready?"

The trip to town was a half hour boat ride, which Christina enjoyed thoroughly. She leaned over the side of the boat and let her fingers dip into the cool water. She enjoyed the fresh air running through her hair, the ocean spraying her gently as they made their way over waves.

Carlisle shut off the engine, throwing a rope to a dock worker; who immediately tied it to a post. Carlisle jumped out of the boat before helping Christina up and on to her feet.

They walked around the open tents selling foods, and clothing. Christina would run her hands down the soft fabrics with wonder as she followed Carlisle through the streets. There was a lot of smells entering her nose, many she'd never smelt before— others she would rather not again. The close proximity of people would cause body odor to reach her nose. It easily overwhelmed the smell of blood surrounding them from both raw meat cooking and the pumping liquid under their skin.

At night fall, the couple had found another festival, much like the one they attended when they first arrived to Rio. This time, Christina was the one that pulled Carlisle onto the dance floor, swaying to the beat of the drum. A smile remained on his face as he watched her dance around him, twirling and jumping with a matching radiate smile.

Christina leaned her body close to Carlisle as another song played; a softer tune for the couples on the dance floor. She wrapped her arms around his neck as he did with her waist. She took a deep breath of his familiar smell through her nose, letting it calm her thirst from the dancing humans around them.

"I'll miss this," Christina muttered softly.

"We'll come back," Carlisle promised. He placed a kiss on the side of her head before dipping her low to the ground and back up. "I promise."

Christina could only smile as she continued to sway with Carlisle to the soft tunes around them.

Christina sighed as she glanced around the house one last time. Carlisle had moved to place their bags in the boat. They had already stayed longer than they planned, and they had to be back for Bella and Edward's wedding in four days.

They both agreed to allow the next newly weds to come to the island on their honeymoon since they enjoyed themselves. Christina knew that Bella would fall in love with the sights and activities on the island; and the privacy was such a bonus for vampires. Neither Christina or Carlisle had to hide who they were the whole trip. The only time they had to act human was when the cleaning crew would show up to take care of their nightly activities.

"You ready?" Carlisle asked, coming up behind his wife. He rested his hands on her shoulders, rubbing his thumb back and forth, making her heart sing at the affection.

She nodded her head. "Let's go home." She smiled over her shoulders, grabbing his hands within her own. "I can't wait to see Annie."

Carlisle brought the brunette's hand up to his lips and placed a kiss on it. "Me either."

Christina grinned before jumping onto Carlisle's back, wrapping her limbs around his body as he walked through the sand. She rest her head on his shoulder as she took one last look around the island; taking in the sights for memory.

"I can't believe I'm saying this," she whispered, jumping off his back to step into the boat. "But I miss elk's blood."

His loud laughter carried them through the ocean; remembering her distaste for some of the island's habitat. The look on her face after she tried fish blood for the curiosity. She had never spit out blood before— but there was a first for everything.

"I'm so glad you're back," Bella sighed into her sister's cool shoulder. "Alice has been driving me crazy."

Christina laughed as she met eyes with the pixie vampire over Bella's shoulder. Alice narrowed her eyes. "Maybe if you listened as well as Christina did, I wouldn't have to pressure you."

Christina chuckled as she pulled away. "Oh, I missed this."

Both girls smiled at the older woman before the front door opened behind them. A familiar smell appeared in her nose as she turned around quickly. A bright smile coming onto her face as Annie ran up the stairs.

"Momma!"

Christina leaned down as she held open her arms and scooped up her child. Christina's heart stopped hurting as the small bundle of joy wrapped her arms around her neck. "I've missed you so much," Christina muttered, planting kisses all over Annie's head.

The young girl giggled at the tickling sensation. "I missed you too. Where's daddy?"

"He's upstairs talking to your uncles," Christina answered placing the girl back on her feet. Annie grinned brightly before taking off upstairs to greet Carlisle.

Christina looked up at Rosalie with a grin. "Thanks for picking her up."

"Of course," Rosalie answered. She shrugged off the mother's appreciation, not minding the slightest about picking up Annie from Charlie's house. "Welcome home."

"Thanks—"

"Oh, Momma Nina's back!"

Christina's breath left her as Emmett picked her up from behind, spinning the both of them around. She gripped tightly to his arms, afraid of being launched across the room.

"Emmett, let's not break my wife," Carlisle chuckled as he walked into the living room with Annie on his hip.

Emmett placed Christina back on her feet, and she dramatically gasped for a deep breath. "Sorry," he laughed, rubbing the brunette's curls. "It hasn't been the same just picking on Bella."

Bella deadpanned. "Yeah, it really hasn't."

Everyone chuckled at Bella's response.

Alice clapped her hands before she grabbed Bella's. "Time for practice!" Bella groaned as she got pulled outside by Alice; the pixie gripping Edward's arm in passing. "We only have three and a half days left!"

Christina walked closer to Carlisle with Annie on his hip still. She ran her hand down Annie's dark curls as she snuggled into Carlisle's side. "It's good to be home."
