"Monsters University. Anybody climbing out?", calls out the bus driver, as they stopped the vehicle at the stop. Four passengers are getting up from their seats and are marching out of the bus, their bags on their backs or simply hanging on one of their shoulders. As they got out of the bus, the vehicle starts driving away, leaving them on their own on the streets. Three of them start marching to the entrance of the academy while one, contemplates the gate with wonder and lightly nervous. The monster is wearing a dark grey hoodie t-shirt with a punk style pattern on the middle and also casual light reddish trousers. She has light purple skin with light dots on cheeks and purple big round snake eyes. Her hair is long, scarlet red and has a bit of volume. Her corpulence is a mix of humanoid form and lizard. Only her hands are twice big than an average-sized hand and her feet are big cones with claws on two toes and one claw each foot behind. She also has horns on her head.
Her first day as an intern at Monsters University. It was her dream to become a scarer and study to this academy, well, apart from becoming a graffiti artist. And today, she could start achieving her dreams in the school of her wishes. When she received her admission letter she was stupefied. And now, seeing only the gate of the university gives her chills. Both positively and negatively. She can tell she is pretty nervous, but also very happy, even if she shows her nervousness more than that. But that won't stop her from wanting to enter in the court of the academy. She puts on her hoodie which has holes to let her horns pass through. She puts it on, being a little shy and introverted around all the people inside the court.
She takes a breath in and then let it out, taking her first steps inside of the court, a big bag in a hand and one on her back, admiring and gazing to the whole surroundings of the academy. A monster greets her and offers to take her bags so they could take them to her assigned room. She accepts and leaves her bags to the monster, walking again inside the court. It was gigantic, spacious, beautiful and also terrifying if we could say so in Monsters language and expressions. There are so many students attending the school and yet there are so many varieties of classes, sections and side courses. She can see that from the few stands standing on a path and also the many monsters advertising them. She goes past them all, even though all of these side courses and games looked fun. One of those catches her eyes; the scare games. And she can see how energetic one of two monsters standing there shows about these games while the other one is pretty calm and biased as if it didn't matter. April walks to the stand and the two monsters notice her coming their way.
"Hey there, newbie! Scare games are coming soon! Want to know what these games are?", the energetic one calls out loudly to her, handling a paper at her.
April shrugs, smiling up at the monster and taking the paper in her big hands. She looks at the papers, listening to what the two monsters in front of her on the stand would say next.
"Any monster can participate in these games, as long as being part of one of our fraternities in here!", the energetic monster exclaims.
"It's not so easy to get into a fraternity unless there are some conditions that you can fill or respect to enter in. But that is also not easy.", the other one says negatively.
"When you have entered a fraternity, you and your colleagues will be facing many tests and obstacles to win the games! And those games can make you thunderstruck!", the energetic monster exclaims again, with positivity in his last sentence.
"Thunderstruck.", the other one changes the meaning negatively, nodding.
"For more information, you can read on the paper and look out any fraternities you would like to join, if interested. You won' be deceived!", the energetic monster exclaims lastly.
April looks back up to them and nods.
"Thanks. I will think about it. Good day.", April says, walking away.
"Don't forget. The scare games are coming soon so you better hurry up if you want to join.", the other monster says.
April puts the paper in her bag, walking to a building to make her ID card and get her room keys. When she got to make her card, she looked pretty shy but still smiling in the photo. She had to take off her hoodie to make it, but that didn't bother her. As she then got her keys, she received the one to room 347. There isn't any roommate. April on one side is tranquil about it, knowing she won't have to feel shy around anyone, but maybe some company could have been gratified. Anyway, she takes her keys and walks around the dorms to find her room. She finds it after having searched through corridors and floors. She opens the door of her dorm and walks in, contemplating the inside. There is a lot of space inside. And there also lie her bags on one of the two beds. She opens them up, sorting all of her affairs out; books, pencil cases, spray doses for graffiti, headphones... And she also decorates her room with posters she took with and photos. The posters are pretty punk stylish or are about disco and rock stars. The photos she put on around the room are most of her and her big brother, Andy. There's only one photo of the whole family completely. She doesn't have much contact with her parents since she doesn't get much along with them or they are always busy with work. But Andy, he is like a best friend to her. A big bro who always took good care of her. But that's another story for another chapter.
After finishing her unpacking and decorating, she looks at her clock. It's showing 7:45 AM. She has fifteen minutes before her first lessons in the scare program start. So she takes her school bag and packs some books inside. She lifts the bag upon her bag, taking her headphones and putting in on her head. She takes her walker out and puts on some disco music that transfer to her headphones through a cable and heads out of her room, locking the door behind her. April puts on her hoodie again, to be discrete and being a bit shy to talk to anyone. She walks through the corridors and floors of the dorms to get outside. While that, the music in her headphones get her in a dancing mood, making her shake her head lightly and emerge her thoughts on it. Only she doesn't pay attention to where she is walking and trips against someone, almost falling off. She takes off her headphones, letting them hang around her neck and turns around to look at who she tripped against, her face a bit is hidden in the hoodie of embarrassment.
"Oh, I'm sorry. I didn't see you coming.", she excuses herself, almost about to walk off again, but that person starts talking.
"It's fine don't worry.", a raspy like voice says.
Another monster, who was walking next to the one she tripped against, offers a hand.
"Hey there.", he says.
April looks at the hand, before shaking it nervously and looking up at the two monsters she has in front of her. The one she tripped against looks like a purple chameleon with multiple arms and glasses on. The other one who offered a hand to April is a green small monster with one eyeball and round.
"H-Hi.", April says quietly.
"I'm Mike Wazowski. That's Randall Boggs.", the green monster says, pointing a thumb to the chameleon who waves at April at the call of his name.
"Pleasure, I'm April Slyther.", she talks back, smiling to the two monsters, much less nervous now by the seeming sympathy that the monsters are showing and so, taking off her hoodie to let them see her face, "Are you new in here too?"
"Yep. And on the scare program. Pretty cool, huh?", Randall says.
"You too? Great.", April exclaims quietly, "I was going to the course right now. I can't wait to learn how to be a scarer in the end."
April seems now less reserved when she can sense that she can trust these two monsters. It always happens when she can see on first impressions that the people aren't bad. Mike nods at her statement.
"Me too. It's the dream from my childhood. And everything starts today. Care to get there with us?", Mike offers, excited.
"Sure.", April says, walking now beside the two monsters.
"I can't wait to see what we will do during our studies. Becoming a scarer might be such a challenge to us.", Randall wonders.
"Nah, it will be easy. You'll see. You only need knowledge and great potential and that's it. It will go on as easy as butter.", Mike states confidently.
April nods chuckling. She doesn't agree with his fact on the studies going to be easy, but she likes his confidence in the lessons.

As Mike, Randall and April arrive in front of the building to the scare program, they have to march in line in front of the building and they put a hand on the feet of one of the statues standing in front of the building. After that, everyone enters in. Randall and Mike have found two places to the front, but there wasn't any place left for her to sit by their side, so she walks to the back. Randall notices her going away.
"Hey, come with us. We'll find a place for you.", he tells her.
"Nah don't worry. I'm also fine to the back. It's ok.", she tells them, going up to the third last backline seats, waving at Randall.
As everyone was all on their seats, an elder monster comes inside and starts writing his name and the course name on the blackboard.
"Good morning students. Welcome to Scaring 101. I am Professor Knight. I am sure all of you were the scariest monster in your town. Bad news kids, you are in my town now and I do not scare easily.", introduces the professor before startling at a monster on the roof windows which is appearing, flying over the classroom.
In fear this monster would fly on her head, April takes a book out and heaves it over her head, covering it from up. The monster shut down the curtains from most windows except one that illuminated them. Then the figure lands on the ground, next to Professor Knight and reveals itself under the light. Professor Knight greets her, surprised by her coming. Many students are starting to whisper to themselves.
"Dean Hardscrabble. This is a pleasant surprise.", the teacher says.
Hardscrabble looks pretty terrifying in April's opinion. She had a long centipede body to march and she had dragon wings with scarlet skin. Hardscrabble is walking towards what looks like a scare can. And probably hers since there is a statue figure of Hardscrabble behind it. She strokes the can with one finger, shoving off some dust maybe.
"I don't mean to interrupt. I thought I'd dropped by to see the terrifying faces joining the program.", she starts talking.
The students start whispering again.
"Well I'm sure my students would like to hear some words of inspiration?", Professor Knight suggests.
"Inspiration? Very well.", Hardscrabble starts, "Scaring us, is the true measure of a monster. If you aren't scary, what kind of a monster are you? It's my job to make great students greater, not make mediocre students less mediocre. That is why at the end of the semester there will be an exam, fail that exam and you are out of the scaring program."
At this last sentence, the whispers become more shocked and louder. April cringes at that statement Hardscrabble made.
"I knew there was some way I couldn't agree with Mike on the fact this program would be easy.", she whispers to herself.
"So, I should hope you are all properly inspired.", Hardscrabble finally talks before flying out of the classroom.
"Alright, alright. Who could give me the properties of an effective roar?", Professor Knight asks, starting the lesson as soon as Hardscrabble was out.
There is silence in the class before Mike raises one hand. Professor Knight notices it.
"Yes?", he asks.
Mike gets up from his seat, ready to answer the question correctly and detailed. April bends herself to the front to listen up what he will say.
"There are actually five. Which include; the roar's resonance, the duration of the roar and the s-", Mike starts before getting interrupted by a sudden loud and forceful roar coming from the back of the class.
April startled, letting out a yelp and falling off her seat from having been too bent forward. She gets up, chills on her and looks in direction of where the roar came from. There is a furry big figure behind the door, in the position of scaring. Then the figure walks inside, revealing himself.
"Wop. Sorry, I heard someone say roar so I just kinda went for it.", the figure says.
That figure has blue fur with purple dots and small horns on his head. It walks to a line of seats to sit down to the last seat free. It excuses himself for disturbing as he is walking past the students on their seats. April raises an eyebrow at this stoic like attitude. Professor Knight looks confused to that monster.
"Very impressive, Mister?", he asks.
"Sullivan. Jimmy Sullivan.", the monster answers.
"Sullivan? Like Bill Sullivan? The scarer?", the professor asks again.
"Yeah. He's my dad.", Sullivan states.
Everyone starts once again to whisper to themselves. A name April might be the only one she never heard of. She doesn't understand all this commotion for that guy.
"I should have known.", starts Professor Knight, satisfied, "I expect big things from you."
Sullivan finds his place and finally sits down.
"Well, you won't be disappointed.", he assures.
Mike heaves his hand back up, a bit confused.
"Uh, I'm sorry. Should I keep going?", he asks.
"No, no. Mister Sullivan is covering it.", Professor Knight answers, making Sullivan click his tongue while pointing his indexes to him and smirking.
And the professor gives a light chuckle at that before addressing himself back to all students.
"Everyone, take out your scare textbooks and open them to chapter 1.", Professor Knight orders.
Sullivan bents to a student in front of him and whispers to them.
"Hey Bob, can I borrow a pencil?", he asks them, "Forgot all my stuff."
At this, the monster hands him a pencil and Sullivan takes it with one hand before playing with it on his teeth.
"Ah. There we go. That will get it.", he says while rubbing the pencil on his teeth.
April has observed this whole scenery and she frowns, looking down to her scare textbook, rolling her eyes.
-
After their first lessons, April is walking beside Randall and Mike in direction of their dorms. And while they were walking out of the scare building, she could see Sullivan in the distance, who was walking proudly and confidently while smiling and acting cool around everyone in his surroundings. April groans softly, shaking her head in annoyance. Mike notices April in an annoyed mood and asks her.
"Hey, you ok there?", Mike asks.
Randall has looked at April as Mike said that, to see what was happening, and she looks to them both, changing her expression to a confused one.
"Uh, what? Nothing, don't bother.", she says, wiping a trail of her on the back of her head.
"There is something wrong, you look irritated.", Randall says, now having noticed her light nervous face.
April sighs and tilts her head in direction of Sullivan. And Randall and Mike look to where she pointed with her head. Then they look back at her, understanding a bit.
"Oh, he.", Mike says.
"What's with this dude? I mean, bursting out like that in the middle of the lesson, minutes after it started and acting popular and stylishly. Argh. I despise people being too confident like that.", April says with a cringed out face.
"Maybe he is just cooling down and not being nervous because of his retarded coming?", Randall suggests.
"Nah, we'll see that through the evolution of these lessons, but the first impression of him is that he is too confident to be in this program.", April says with a bad feeling about that guy.
"Don't think about him. Ignore Sullivan. Popular or not, he should not become important to us. The scare program shall be our priority. I don't want to get out from it, and you both might not want either.", Mike assures.
April shrugs. She, Randall and Mike arrive inside the dorms. They split up, leaving Randall with Mike and April going to another corridor to get to her dorm.
"Alright. What a great start of this year. I wish everybody good luck in the program. Let's see each other tomorrow again, April.", Mike says to April, waving at her as he starts walking off with Randall.
"Yeah, see you.", Randall calls out.
"Good evening to you both. And be the best scarers survive this semester.", April chuckles out, winking at them.
"Hah, sure.", Mike chuckles back.
As April starts walking off to her dorm, putting her hoodie back on her, looking away from the crowd of students in the dorms. She takes out her keys as she gets nearer to her dorm, and as she reaches it, she unlocks the door and walks inside. She throws her bag on her bed and throws herself on the bed too, her back laying against it. She sighs. She is thinking about what Hardscrabble told everyone in the scare lessons earlier. All this thing about getting out of the scare program if she doesn't succeed on the final exam of this semester, makes her feel a bit worried and insecure. What she fears is that she would be one of those monsters to not get past this exam. What if she isn't good enough in her studies and ends up out of the program? She wishes that wouldn't happen to her. Not after all the efforts, she has put through to get into this program in the first place. To calm herself down, she takes her walker again in her hands and plays another music in her headphones. She stays laying on her bed, trying to cool down and not thinking about anything that worries her.
