Luca's POV

I hopped out of my car and walked straight to the locker room. My AirPods in my ears ready to get serious. It's game time and we have to beat Matrix Academy.

I nodded my head at a couple of guys. They knew the drill. Don't talk to me until I get on the field and get comfortable.

It's bad enough I have Skylar distracting me, I don't need them too.

Did I just think she is distracting me? No. She is just some girl.

" Reid, come to my office when you get a chance" my coach yelled as I passed him.

Ugh

It's not that he is a bad coach, he's just really annoying. The guy is in his mid-fifties and is trying to relive his glory days through me. He claims he would have been the next Tom Brady if he hadn't gotten hurt.

The guy wasn't bad, but not a Tom Brady. I've seen the film from his high school days and the guy had an arm, he just didn't have the best aim.

I dropped my bag in my locker and made my way to his office chewing on a granola bar. I knocked on the door and sat in the chair across from him. He does this every game, I know the drill.

"Hey, Luca. I know what you think I'm about to say and your right." he said raising his hands like he was being arrested "so I'm just going to skip it"

Thank God

" There are some real recruiters out there tonight. I need you to play your best"

"What schools?" I asked warily

Why did he tell me this an hour before we play?

" Oklahoma, Auburn, and UCLA"

I took a deep breath. All three of those schools had major football programs, they are not Alabama, but they are up there.

" I know you will do great kid. I just need to impress one, not all"

That's comforting. Not

I nodded my head and walked out of his office trying to forget what he just told me. This was just another game.

Skylar's POV

"I'm just saying ladies, WE LOOK CUTE!" Marlee cheered as we walked into the stadium

I shook my head but smiled nevertheless.

I followed the girls into the student section and sat with them. I felt really awkward because I've always sat with my dad in the parent's section. Bailey had to go shortly after and sit with the cheer team. Marlee tried her best to explain the rival between us and Matrix. Jefferson disliked each team equally, but here they truly hate each other.

The section slowly started to fill in and most girls were dressed just like us. Guys had camo pants and tops and some had an orange vest. Most gave me a weird look, I guess they are still not used to a new student.

"Look there is Luca" Marlee cheered pointing at her brother.

I heard a bunch of girls sequel and some guys groan. I rolled my eyes, but my they deceived me. I look over to where Marlee was pointing and I saw him in his navy football jersey with tight white pants.

Luca walked up and down the sidelines, a football in on-hand and his helmet in the other. His face was hard stone and looked like one word would piss him off.

"Is he always this anxious?"

Marley looked at me with a confused look before shaking her head. " He looks no different than he always does. He cares a lot for the game, he is probably just getting into the right mindset"

I nodded my head, but I still didn't quite believe her. My eyes continued to follow Luca, not because he is attractive, because he is, but because he didn't seem right. I don't know why I didn't believe his sister, the one that has been to every single football game of his. She would know better than me, this is my first but something felt off.

My attention was cut due to the phone in my hand that started to ring. I looked at the contact and saw it was Cleo.

"Hey Cleo" I answered

"I'm at the freaking game. Why am I here Sky?"

I laughed at the frustration in her voice.

" I'm in the second row of the student section if you want to sit with us," I told her hoping she would give it a chance.

"Nah, I'm going to stay close to the food"

"Well, you know where to find me. I'm happy you came, it good for us loners to get some typical high school experience"

"Yeah ok," she said, sounding bored of the conversation.

I was about to plead with her some more when she hung up on me. This girl is one of a kind.

"Hey, why is my brother looking at you?" Marlee asked nudging my arm to get my attention.

I looked away from my phone I saw Luca staring at us. At me. I raised my eyebrow at him but he turned around right when we made eye contact.

Weird

Luca's POV

Five minutes till kick-off. Five minutes till I have a chance to play in front of someone that could change my life. Ever since I was young I wanted to play in the NFL my parents have always been against it. Dad wanted me to join the family business and mom wanted me to go to medical school.

I searched the crowd looking for my parents. Of course, they were not here, it's just some high school game to them. It's my senior year and they haven't seen me play since middle school.

I was about to give up when I saw Skylar talking on her phone with a huge smile on her face. Marlee gave me a look but I narrowed my eyes telling her to shut up.

Skylar just had this glow about her, I don't understand it. She's beautiful of course but I've met plenty of beautiful girls before.

The way she came into this school and didn't let anyone knock her down mentally, not physically. She is still wearing her boot and walking on crutches but even when dealing with that she didn't break.

Every year a Junior gets the scholarship and the past five years they dropped out the second week. The other year's, the third week.

I watched as Marlee nudged Skylar and whispered something in her ear. Marlee pointed at me and I saw Skylar turning her head towards us but I knew if I didn't turn away I would lose my focus.

She's just some girl.

Just some special girl and I'm about to win this game.
