Fukuzawa Yukichi x Ougai Mori

finally doing this one!! if we're not counting shin soukoku and soukoku, and maybe odazai as well, id say this is one of the most popular bsd ships. kind of? theyre not SUPER popular, but this is without a doubt the most popular mori and fukuzawa ship respectively. and for good reasons, considering their history together

this ship is just pretty,, interesting. and poetic. theyre like the two divorced gay dads of bsd, whose stories are already pretty much over so now they just,,, chill. in the background. running their respective organizations.

and im honestly a big fan of those kind of characters! the characters who are super central to the stories, but take on a more passive role. (this trope is only beaten by "the most central/important character is already dead when the story begins",,, oda will always be the number one)

so yeah, just as characters im a big fan of these two! especially  mori. dont kill me too hard for this but hes one of my favorites, hes terrible and i want to kick him and put him in jail but hes just so goddamn interesting.

now, onto the ship itself! i honestly like them more,, symbolically. both of them have dark pasts, and blood on their hands, but fukuzawa was the first one to break that cycle, if that makes sense. mori never changed, but fukuzawa changed himself. fukuzawa represents the more positive cycle in bsd - the cycle of saving that oda unknowingly starts by saving dazai, who then saves atsushi, who then saves kyouka, and so on. meanwhile, mori represents the negative cycle in bsd - the one where victims become abusers. mori fucks up dazai, dazai fucks up akutagawa, akutagawa fucks up kyouka before atsushi gets to her, etc etc. to me, the most important message of bsd is how kindness creates kindness, and cruelty creates more cruelty. a single act of kindness can turn an assassin into a proud adoptive father of like 7 orphans, or a mafia member into bsd's objectively best boy. but at the same time, cruelty and abuse can turn an innocent child into a bloodthirsty murderer.

this is turning long and pretentious, but the point is this - mori and fukuzawa are some of the most important characters in bsd, just because of what they represent. and that makes this ship very interesting symbolically, you know?

but if we're talking about pure romance, this ship is nice - only in an au, though. i cant see them working out in canon. i honestly cant see mori working out with anyone at all in canon. but a slightly less violent au, with a slightly less pedophilic mori? sure! i think theyd be cute. two old men and their 30 adoptive kids.

so yeah, this ship is pretty nice! im not super into it, but its - again - interesting, and would be sweet in an au. :)
