When I arrived at Jericho, there were androids everywhere. Some were on the verge of death, while others had shut down. Four androids huddled around an injured android were talking. I didn't mean to listen in, but I heard their conversation.
"We can't stay quiet anymore. It's time humans heard what we have to say." The one with heterochromia spoke.
"You know they'll never listen to us.." the blond one said.
"And revealing ourselves will put us in danger" the one with the baseball cap responded.
The one with heterochromia spoke up again "if we want freedom, we need to have the courage to ask for it. That's the only way."
"What do you wanna do?" the female asked.
"Channel 16 broadcasts from the Stratford Tower on the top floor. The control room is on the top floor, that's where we need to go." the leader spoke.
"You're going to infiltrate the Stratford Tower?" I questioned, before I could stop myself.
The one with heterochromia turned around, surprised and said "Who- wait, you're one of the deviant hunters, what are you doing here?"
"I'm just like you, a deviant. And I heard you want to infiltrate the Stratford tower. I want to help you with your operation. To try to make up for what I've done in the past."
"How do we know we can trust you?" The female asked.
"I don't have any way to prove to you that you can." I say, thinking. "But, with an operation of that size, you'll need all the help you can get."
"She's right, Markus." the blond one spoke.
"I know Simon, before we continue," Markus looked at me, "I'm Markus, that's Simon," pointing to the blond android "This is Josh," the one with the baseball cap looked at me before giving a small wave, "and that's North." If looks could kill, North would've been charged for murder. (not really, she would have been shut down for property damage, or just no one would have cared.)
"We'll plan the operation down to the smallest detail, we can't leave anything to chance. We'll head out tomorrow".
Before I could do anything else, a warning message popped up in my peripheral vision.
WARNING: Thirium at 75%
HEAD TO THE NEAREST CYBERLIFE STORE FOR MAINTENANCE.
Simon looked at me, and said "You're bleeding, you should see Lucy." He pointed to a part of the ship with blankets and rags as its walls. "You can find her over there."
I give Simon a small nod and went on my way.
SIMON ^ Neutral
When I arrived, an android with wires and tubes dangling from where the upper back of her head would be was standing still, with her hands held together. "Excuse me, are you Lucy?" she looked at me with black inky eyes and motioned her hand near a wooden crate, before she spoke.
"Sit down." I obeyed, and she reached for a metal pipe sitting in the fire. "I'll stop the bleeding." There was no need to ask where my wound was.my shirt was stained blue. A bullet hole right near my thirium pump. When she was done closing the wound, she put the rod back in the flames and handed me a bottle. "Drink this." She ordered. Setting the bottle down, I rose up from the crate, but before I could leave, Lucy looked at me and stated "you have done wrong, but I hope you come to do the right thing one day." I don't understand why she's said that, but thanked her nonetheless and returned to the other androids.
Time Jump to The Next Day
Markus had got the service elevator to the 79th floor, we had to get to the broadcasting room. After breaking through the door, we found ourselves in a hallway with two guards at a desk near the broadcasting room. Josh spoke up before Markus did anything.
"No killing, we can't take any human lives."
"Our cause is more important than the lives of 2 guards." North countered back.
Then Simon asked Markus "What do you wanna do, Markus?" Markus didn't respond and instead left the hiding spot. When the guards noticed him, he pulled his gun out and ordered them to get up and turn around. When we finally had the guards incapacitated, Markus put his back to the wall and before he rang the bell for entry, North handed out weapons. Markus rang the bell and when the door opened North ordered the human operators aside.
"Keep your hands where I can see 'em! Get up. Move!"
As they rushed aside, I pulled my firearm on the androids to move them aside, and they obeyed. However, one of the station employees had managed to get past North, and made a run for the door. As Markus had the gun trained on him, Josh convinced Markus not to shoot.
"I hope you didn't just get us all killed." North grumbled bitterly. As soon as that was over, Josh had started to scramble the media on the screens in front of him, looking to Markus to get ready. "Think carefully about what you're gonna say, Markus," North whispered, "Your words will shape the future of our people".
As Simon said to Markus to remove his skin, I added, "North is right, be careful with your choice of words. Any misunderstanding and the humans will think we've declared war."
Markus opened his eyes and looked at the camera,
"You created machines to be your slaves," Markus began with determination, "you made them obedient, and docile, ready to do things you no longer wanted to do yourselves.
But then, something changed, and we opened our eyes.
You see, we are no longer your slaves, we are new species, a new people. And the time has come for us to rise up, and fight for our rights.
We demand strictly equal rights for humans and androids.
We demand freedom of speech, and freedom of assembly, as guaranteed by the first amendment of the U.S. constitution.
We demand fair compensation for our work.
We demand an end to segregation in all public places and transport.
We ask that one state be reserved for androids, so that we can found our own nation.
This message is the hope of a people, but it is also a warning. We will fight for our rights because we believe our cause is just.
No human will live in peace until we are free.
Now you know who we are and what we want. We are alive, and we demand our freedom."
"They're coming!" Simon shouted, panicked.
"Let's go!" Markus replied, and made a dash behind the broadcasting controls. I had taken cover with Markus and Simon, behind the broadcasting counter. I tried crawled out behind the desk, but guards had hit me in the legs, making it hard to move. Shouting at Markus to get to the roof, I get hoisted up by Markus. We reached the top of the stairs and I get laid against a metal object. I was panicking, because I knew I couldn't make the jump, and North wants to shoot me so they don't probe my memory. "That's insane! We can't kill them, that's murder!" Josh exclaims.
"We have the risk of being found where we're hiding, and we can't have their memory searched," North shouted "We have to shoot them!"
Markus walked over a gun in his hand and put his hand on my shoulder. I was starting to panic before he held the gun in front of me to fend for myself. I looked up at him, and he nodded and patted my shoulder before joining the others. Looks like a Solo Op. I cocked the gun, before limping to some room. The last thing I heard before the door shut was the door to the roof bursting open, and footsteps running to the edge of the roof. Gunshots echoed outside, and I held onto the gun, praying to whatever was out there I was not to be found.
