Reader's Perspective

"You know what it's doing?"
"I dunno. Did he zone out? Do androids meditate or something?"
"Beats me, hey Connor!"'

Connor opened his eyes, looking at (Y/N) & Hank.

"You ran outta batteries or what?"
"I'm sorry, I was making a report to Cyberlife."
"Uh...Well, do you plan on staying in the elevator?"
"No. I'm coming."

They entered the hallway.

"So, what do we know about this guy in the report?" (Y/N) asked the RK800.

"Not much. Just that a neighbour had reported that he heard strange noises coming from this floor. Nobody's supposed to be living here, but the neighbour said he saw a man hiding a LED under his cap."

"Oh, Christ if we have to investigate every time someone hears a strange noise we're gonna need more cops."

The group then approached the door, Connor firmly knocked on it.

"Anybody home?"

There was no response, looking over at his two partners he yelled out.
"Open up! Detroit Police!"

That's when they heard it,
Something hit the ground.
Hard.

"Stay behind me." Hank ushered the android & woman behind him.
"Got it." They said in unison.

Readying his gun in hand, Lieutenant Anderson kicked the door open. (Y/N) immediately reached for her own firearm, standing in between Connor & Hank. This door led to another hallway, a beam of light at the end of it.

Hank barged the door at the end of the hall open, only to release a flock of

"Pigeons?!"

"What the fuck is this?!" Anderson huffed.

"Jesus this place stinks. Uh, looks like we came for nothin'. Our man's gone."

Whilst Hank & Connor stood in the bathroom, (Y/N) was looking at her surroundings, including the birdseed that caught her eye.

"rA9," She heard Connor say. "Written 2471 times...Why is it obsessed with this sign?"

"Looks like mazes or something..."

"Yeah, well whoever lived here was taking care of the birds." She commented, leaning against the doorframe. Deviants were starting to make their way into (Y/N)'s mind space. She thought back to Andrew, whom she'd saved, and wondered what ever became of him.

"I need some fresh air." Hank was clearly done with the case.

(Y/N) walked over to the sink as Connor examined the tipped stool.

"There's an LED on the edge of the sink, 'must've been a deviant." Hearing this, Connor came to her side. She sat it in his palm, her fingers brushing his.

"Not surprised it was an android. No human could live with all these fucking pigeons."

They were all now in the main room, avoiding the pigeons as they flew up in flocks when disrupted.

"The driver's license is fake."
"Cool! At least we didn't come for nothin'!" (Y/N) Couldn't tell if Hank was being sarcastic or not.

She ran her hand across the wall, admiring the intricate maze-like patterns that covered it.

"R.T, probably initials." Connor read from the jacket.

"He put his initials on his jacket? That's something your mom does when you're in first grade!"

That's when (Y/N) realised Connor looking towards the roof. She saw his eyes & knew it.

He's still here.

The deviant never left.

He looked up into the roof & in a blasting second 'Rupert' landed on top of Connor & sprinted through the exit.

"Shit!"

"Goddamn fucking pigeons! What are you waiting for? Chase it!"

She watched Connor bolt through the door & raced after him, running as fast as her legs could carry her.

"Kid, goddammit!" (Y/N) heard Hank yell after her, but she was already leaping over the fallen objects. She pushed herself upright against the upcoming wall, sprinting faster & faster until she went barging through the door leading to the roof. Further & further she ran.

She knew she wouldn't be able to keep up with the two androids, but she tried anyway. She loved the nitty-gritty parts of her job. But, no matter how hard she tried, she couldn't catch up with the androids ahead of her. She vaulted the vent in front of her, almost hitting her head on the overhead sign. She stopped at the clearing that led to a field, puffing. Her knees were giving out on her & her lungs were begging for air, it just brought back memories of the training she went through so many years ago just to get where she was that very day.

"Guess I wasn't thinking...."

"You're darn right you weren't!" She heard a familiar voice yell from far behind her.

"And hello to you too Hank."

"There's a detour route that leads to the nearest rooftop, we can probably grab em' there." He shook his head, looking at the girl who was steadying herself.

"You're always finding a new way to hurt yourself, aren't ya?"

She chortled a weak laugh.

"I'd prefer 'living for the danger'."

"Yeah, no more of that shit from now on. Give me a damn heart attack you will."

"They're way too far ahead now, we could probably cut them off."

They made their way back to where they first started, through the halls, hastily looking for the nearest entry to their supposed 'detour route'. The narrow walkways felt as if they stretched through eternity. This went on for a bit, aimlessly wandering the abandoned buildings. They'd gone in a huge circle.

"Now I'm glad I don't live in an apartment complex, it's a damn labyrinth." They got back up to the roof, seeing the deviant sprinting through the field towards them, Connor on its tail.

"Stop right there!" Hank yelled, & reacting in an instant before Rupert could push the old man off the roof-side (Y/N) shoved him out of the way, resulting in her plummet. She let out a staggered shout because of this, clambering onto the edge with her strength. She knew it was a stupid idea, she wasn't thinking at all during the events but she knew one thing.

No-one else was dying on her watch,
Even if it meant her own demise.

Meanwhile, something flashed in Connor's eyes:

That's when (Y/N) watched Connor sprint over to her almost without hesitation, hoisting her up from the ledge.

"Shit. SHIT! We had it dammit! Fuck!" Those were the first words to leave (Y/N)'s mouth as she beat a hand against the pavement, not even bothering at that moment to thank Connor.

"I-If I thought before pulling a jackass move like that, we would've caught him! Frickin' hell, I wasn't thinking right."
"It's my fault (Y/N), I should've been faster-"

"When are you going to learn not to be a hero?! Well?!" Hank yelled, not angry but worried as he shook her shoulder.

"You'd rather risk your ass then let an old fart like me-"
"Fall possibly to your death. Yes, that's exactly what I intended Hank."
"You're as dim-witted as your mother."

"I take that as a compliment." She stated matter-of-factually, snickering.

She turned to Connor as she stood up, placing a hand on his shoulder.

"Con, if I didn't pull my jackshit move, you would've caught him."

"It's alright, we know what it looks like, we'll find it..." Hank said, making his way to the door. Connor turned to the woman in front of him.

"Are you sure you're-"

In that instant, (Y/N) wrapped her arms around the android's abdomen, pulling him into a hug. He was startled at first, until hesitantly returning the action.

"Hey Con-" Hank looked back at them. "Nothing." He rolled his eyes, disgusted, & waited at the doorway for it to be over with.

"Thank you..." That was the statement to break their sentimental silence. For an android, Connor's touch was surprisingly comforting.

"Alright, (Y/N), get away from the damn thing! You'll get rabies or some shit because of the rats with wings back at that apartment."

She stuck her tongue out teasingly at Hank.

He huffed. "Ugh, I'm gonna be fucking sick."

Hank was already making his way back down the staircase when (Y/N) finally let go of the RK800. He tilted his head to the side like a curious puppy, as if wondering why she'd detached herself from his warmth.

She was wondering the exact same thing.

"I don't know what else to say except.... thank you." She gave him a lop-sided smile, before following in her partner's pursuit.

(Y/N): WARM

She left Connor with an empty feeling without her warmth,

a lost feeling without the sound of her voice,

& an empty rooftop to stand on, alone.
