Connor's perspective

Fear.

Or at least, something extremely close to fear.

And anger.

"Not another step!"

Something really,

really close to anger.

I have to save her.

"Or I won't hesitate to kill this human!"

Software instability ^

"Shit!" Hank was angry, but Connor could see the pure terror in his eyes as he watched the closest thing he had to a daughter have a gun pressed to her head.

The deviant was the same model as the android he took down a while back, it dangled a child over the edge of a building, tears streaming down the girl's face. Connor looked at (Y/N)'s fear-filled eyes & he saw the same look the little girl gave him when she was being held hostage. She looked like she was about to faint. Her face was extremely pale & her (E/C) eyes were begging for help. The deviant had her pressed against a wall with a tight hold on her neck, but not tight enough to cut off the oxygen.

Look at her.

She's terrified.

"(Y/N) are you okay?" He called out her name, she didn't respond.

"(Y/N)!"

Still no response.

She's not like this.

Their eyes locked & he saw right into her soul. The pain she went through when she was told her parents were killed. The fear of catching a plane, worried she may join them sooner than she thought she would. The sadness that washed over her when she remembered the many moments she spent with them when something reminded her of their old house.

She's human, of course she'd be afraid in a time like this.

He leaned forward, but the deviant cocked the gun pointed at (Y/N) & she winced.

"DON'T MOVE!" it screamed at him. "BACK AWAY OR I'LL SHOOT!"

"Do what he says." (Y/N) finally spoke. "Just, do what he says."

"You promise if we back away, you won't hurt her?" Connor asked the deviant.

"Why do you care about this human? We're nothing to them!"

"...This human holds great importance to others at this moment. Now, do you promise?"

"I-," it looked down at the woman for a moment. "I promise."

A squad of officers were already on the roof with them, all armed with guns at the ready.

Hank pulled Connor behind one of the units.

"Stay here, I'll talk to the deviant until it lets (Y/N) go."

"And if you fail?"

He stayed silent, his eyes dropping to the ground below them.

Connor looked back at (Y/N), her eyes frantically jolting from one person to another as she tried to establish who was there & what was happening.
"I'm sorry Hank," He faced him for a moment "but I can't take that risk."

Hank reached out to stop the android, but he was already charging towards the deviant.

"Connor goddammit!"

It threw (Y/N) aside & she landed on the ground in a crumpled heap, her head hitting the wall & then the pavement.

Connor managed to probe a part of its memory before it fired a bullet through its head, committing suicide.

"Connor!" Hank was hurrying over to his side.

"Connor you alright?"

He didn't answer, he was too busy staring at the thirium on his hands.

"Connor."

"Okay..." He muttered.

"Are you hurt?"

"I'm okay..."

"Jesus."

Their conversation was cut short by (Y/N) running over to Connor & engulfing him in a hug. He staggered a bit on impact, but gladly returned the gesture, keeping his chin on the top of her head as she held tight to the android whom she'd grown fond of. It went against everything in his programming, but he was scared she'd be hurt, or worse...

"Don't do things like that..." She mumbled against his jacket, her face gushed lightly with past tear streaks.
"You could've gotten yourself killed."

"(Y/N), I can't technically-"

"Just shush for a second, please?"

He complied, acknowledging her plea.

This felt nice, (Y/N)'s warmth radiating into his hollow chest. He cherished the feeling of her wrapped in his arms (though he'd never tell anyone).

"You two scared the shit out of me. Goddammit, I told you not to move."

"I was connected to it's memory.." (Y/N) looked up at him.

"When it fired..." His voice was scratchy, as if he were going to cry. "I felt it die. Like I was dying." (Y/N) pulled him closer, he didn't refuse the action. "I was scared."

They just sat like this for a moment, the warmth & comfort of the woman with him was helping calm down the adrenaline from the situation, his thirium pump steadying.

(Y/N) let out a hoarse, weak cough as if trying to learn how to breathe properly again.

"You okay kid?"

"I'm...A little shaken, but..."

She leaned against Connor's chest unknowingly for support, he could feel her unsteady breathing.

"I'm fine."

"You don't look fine." Hank's face showed concern.

Connor pressed the back of his hand to her forehead.

"You're slowly running a temperature, I'd highly suggest we take you home so you can recover."

"Alright." She let all her frustration out of her voice & closed her eyes, her head still pressed against the chest of the android.

"Alright."

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Lieutenant Anderson was driving, whilst Connor sat next to (Y/N) in the backseat. She was leaning against her hand, her elbow rested on the window-side of the door.
"You alright, kid?" Hank asked from the driver's seat.
"Just peachy." She replied, sarcasm dripping from her voice.
There was a silence.
"So why did you Connor?"
"Why did I what, Lieutenant?"
"Rush over to (Y/N) like she was dying?"
"Detect-"
He fixed his mistake.
"(Y/N) is needed for this investigation, it would be.... obstructive for her to be injured & interrupt our progress."
"The poor girl's been through enough."
"What do you mean by that?"
"I mean look at what happened today. She clung onto you because she was scared you were going to leave like her parents did. She's seen so much shit that it's left a dent in her brain that convinces her everyone who she cares about will just leave her."
He looked at the woman who he'd only met a few days ago, hoping she was okay.
"I can hear you, you know."
"Yeah, & you should know that not everyone's a piece of shit just waiting to up and leave you." Hank let out an agitated sigh.
Connor looked to his right to see (Y/N) looking at him.
"Hank told me you were sick later in the week, before we started working on the deviant cases. If I knew the severity, I would've insisted you stay home. You need to rest, especially since you weren't wearing a coat whilst you were out in the cold."
"Good to know."
The Lieutenant's words from earlier that day were floating through Connor's conscious. After (Y/N) looked clearly unsettled by Special Agent Perkins he tried to intervene but Hank stopped him.
'She can handle this,
Don't do anything you might regret.'
Before she approached the hiding spot of the deviant, he was also told
'Jealousy isn't a good look on you Connor'
.--.--.--.--.--.--.--.--.--.--.--.--.--.--.--.--.--.--.--.--.--.--.--.--.--.--.--.
Jealousy: an unhappy or angry feeling of wanting to have what someone else has.
Regret: a feeling of sadness, repentance, or disappointment over an occurrence or something that one has done or failed to do.
.--.--.--.--.--.--.--.--.--.--.--.--.--.--.--.--.--.--.--.--.--.--.--.--.--.--.--.
Impossible. Connor couldn't have been jealous, because jealousy was a human emotion. But, the more he thought of it, the more it was slowly starting to eat away at his programming. That nagging feeling of wanting to protect (Y/N), the urge to remove Perkins' hand from hers.
"We're here."
He looked out the window at the house before him, the faint sound of barking was heard as he stepped out of the car. (Y/N) trudged out of the car, staring at the place she'd called home for several years.
"Oh well, free day off work. Guess I should be happy."
