Reader's perspective

At around 8:20 at night, (Y/N) was running a hand through her German Shephard's coat as he lazed on the couch with her. She was wearing a black & white striped long-sleeved top with black jeans, her coat sat on the hanger near the door as she turned the page of the book she was reading. Blue let out a breath of content before yawning, signalling for her hand to retreat from his fur as he was ready for bed.

As Blue snored softly, a light knock was at the door. Sighing, she threw her book in the place of where she'd just been sitting.

"Connor?" She opened it to the same chocolate eyes she was now familiar with.

"Good evening, (Y/N)."
"What can I do for you?"
"Another case has come in; a man was found dead near the downtown district. I was ordered to retrieve both you & Lieutenant Anderson for this case."

(Y/N) watched her dog breathe in & out slowly.

"Just let me grab my coat, I'll be out in a second."

A few moments later she was filling her dog's food bowl. Scruffing his fur lovingly & locking the door behind her, she bounded down the steps to the car.

"Alright, downtown or bust."

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
(Y/N)'s eyes widened as she saw the sign of the place they'd pulled up to.
"Oh, you have got to be kidding me. Of all the damn places."
Eden Club, AKA blow your load & hit the road. This was a screw & run sort of establishment – if you'd even call it an establishment – for drunk, cheating & lonely people. (Y/N) usually wouldn't touch the place with a 20-inch stick.
Apparently today was not one of those days.
"It feels like somebody's playing with a drill inside my skull." Hank groaned, currently hungover in the front seat whilst Connor drove.
"Welcome to hangovers, you must be new here." (Y/N) smiled ironically, before reverting back to her entirely uninterested expression. She blew a piece of (H/C) hair out of her face.
"You sure this is the place?" He asked, ignoring the woman's snarky response to his pain.
"It's the address in the report."
"Right...Okay. Let's get going."
They each exited the car, (Y/N) with upmost hesitance.
"Billions of years of advancement in humanity, & we make this shit." (Y/N) gestured towards the club, an utterly sarcastic look on her face.
"Haven't we come far? Are we proud? You bet!" She muttered.
As they walked in, Connor noticed her anxious expression. His eyes darted to her hand before he kept looking straight ahead.
"Sexiest androids in town...Might finally find you a decent man, (Y/N)."
"HA! PLEASE. I have a decent man. He has 4 legs, fur, a tail & is currently waiting patiently for me back home. Besides, this place makes me..."
"Uncomfortable?" Hank offered.
"Regret being part of the human race." She threw as a retort, running a hand over her forearm sheepishly.
"Perhaps if the detective is feeling unsettled we should-"
"It's fine Connor," She rolled her head from side to side, feeling it crack. "sometimes you've just gotta roll with the punches."
She was never the type to visit these sorts of things, it was merely the fact that people simply payed to fuck & just left as if nothing ever happened. True, she had never been intimate with anyone, but those sorts of things should unfold with meaning behind it. Not just because some asshole isn't satisfied with their marriage.
The room was lit with purple & blue lights, androids for rent lined the outside whilst others danced on platforms throughout the centre.
"Y-You're not going to take my license, are you? I mean, heh, I had nothing to do with this." Another voice was heard from across the part of building.
"The investigation is ongoing, sir. I can't tell you anything for the moment."
Ben turned away from the other man.
"Hey Hank! Evening (Y/N)!"
"Hey Ben, how's it going?"
The woman gave a small wave in response, Ben gesturing to the Eden Club private room to his left.
"That room there. Oh, uh, by the way, Gavin's in there too."
"Oh god." (Y/N) muttered, she did not feel like dealing with Gavin's bullshit.
"Oh, great. A dead body & an asshole, just what we needed."
The trio gave a quick glance around the room they were standing in, before entering the site of the crime scene.
"Lieutenant Anderson, Buffy The Deviant Slayer & their plastic pet...The fuck are you three doing here?" Gavin spoke harshly, hints of tobacco in his words. Yep, he'd been smoking, & drinking most likely due to the mist-covered look in his eyes.
"We've been assigned all cases involving androids." Connor spoke casually.
"Oh yeah? Well you're wasting your time. Just some pervert who, uh, got more action than he could handle." Reed laughed afterwards.
"We'll have a look anyway, if you don't mind."
"Come on, let's go..." He strutted past them like the arrogant asshole he was.
"It's uh, starting to stink of booze," He sniffed the air & pretended to cough. "& wet dog in here." He elbow-barged Connor on his way out, (Y/N) stabling the android by placing a hand on his shoulder.
"You okay?"
"I'm alright, thank you."
Chris looked at (Y/N) & Hank, he gave them both a look of mixed sympathies.
"Night, you two."
The first thing Connor did was go over & examine the man's body, meanwhile (Y/N) was looking down at the broken Eden android.
"He didn't die of a heart attack, he was strangled." Connor took a few steps back away from the deceased man.
"Yeah, I saw the bruising on the neck. Doesn't prove anything though, could've been rough play."
(Y/N) was still looking down at the android, Connor knelt down next to her.
"We're missing a piece of the story, something doesn't feel right." She shook her head, before watching Connor press his two fingers into the dripping thirium on the broken machine's face. His hand rose back to his face until
"What the fuc-"
"WHOA! HEY! HEY! HEY!" Hank yelled at him as if he were a dog, before groaning, clearly revolted.
"Argh, Connor! You're so disgusting! Think I'm gonna puke again."
"What...What the hell did I just witness?"
"You don't even want to know."
Still recovering from what she'd viewed, (Y/N) made an attempt to focus on the case. Connor pressed his fingers to the 'dead' android's LED, his skin fading away to reveal white porcelain underneath. (Y/N) watched him hold the android-woman's wrist.
.--.--.--.--.--.--.--.--.--.--.--.--.--.--.--.
Reactivation Required
.--.--.--.--.--.--.--.--.--.--.--.--.--.--.--.
"The only way to access it's memory is to reactivate it."
"Think you can do it?" Hank asked him.
"It's badly damaged..." Sitting his hand on the android's stomach, Connor let its skin peel away.
"If I can, it'll only be alive for a minute, maybe less...I just hope it's long enough to learn something."
The broken android's abdomen was now opened, (Y/N) was able to see the complicated assortment of wires. Connor picked up two of the cords.
"Step back a bit, we don't know how it'll react to being reactivated." (Y/N) took the advice she was given, shuffling backwards so she was slightly behind Connor.
When the cords were clicked together, the android gasped for air as if she needed it, pushing herself off the ground & trying to crawl away as the RK800 stood up. She pushed herself into a corner, her eyes jolting to look around the room frantically. Connor tried approaching it first, but (Y/N) beat him to it, crouching down at its level.
"You're okay," She ushered. "we're not going to hurt you, we just want some answers."
"Is he-" It looked over at the dead body of the man which lay on the ground motionless.
"Is he dead?"
"Yes, he is. Did you kill him?"
"No! No, it wasn't me..."
"Can you tell me what happened?"
"He started...hitting me...Again & again."
"Were you alone in the room?" Connor was now next to her, questioning the other android with a strict tone. "Was there anyone else with you?"
"He wanted to play with two girls...That's what he said, there was two of us."
"So it was the other android that strangled him? Is that it?"
Before Connor could get an answer, the Traci stopped shaking & froze in place, her LED flickering out. Letting out a sad sigh, (Y/N) gently reached out & shut the eyes of the now permanently broken Traci. Connor stood up first, offering the woman a hand up which she accepted.
"So, there was another android..." Hank was standing, watching the scene unfold.
"This all happened at least an hour ago, whichever girl killed Michael is probably long gone." (Y/N) said.
"No... It couldn't go outside dressed like that unnoticed. It might still be here." Connor commented.
"Think you could find a deviant among all the other androids in this place?" Hank asked.
"Deviants aren't easily detected."
"Ah, shit...There's gotta be some other way. Maybe an eyewitness? Somebody who saw It leaving the room. I'm gonna go ask the manager a few questions about what he saw." He started making his way out. "You let me know if you think of anything."
They were now in the main room, male & female Tracis outlined the walls in 'display' cases. (Y/N) saw Connor walking towards one of the female Tracis. He pressed his hand against the scanner.
'No finger print detected. Please try again.'
He looked over at Hank, before he made his way over to the Lieutenant.
"Excuse me, Lieutenant. Can you come here a second?"
"Found something?"
"Maybe..."
All three of them approached the Traci.
"Can you rent this Traci?"
(Y/N) saw the expression on Hank's face & immediately broke into laughter.
"Oh, that's fuckin' priceless!"
"For fuck's sake Connor, we got better things to do!"
"Please, Lieutenant! Just trust me."
He shook his head, making his way over to the scanner.
'Hello. A 30-minute session costs $29.99. Please confirm your purchase.'
Hank looked at his two partners, (Y/N) holding in another laugh.
"This is not gonna look good on my expense account."
'Purchase confirmed. Eden Club wishes you a pleasant experience.'
"Yeah, you're welcome." Hank muttered.
The Traci stepped out.
"Delighted to meet you." She said to Anderson.
"Follow me, I'll take you to your room."
"Okay, now what?" Hank asked with a grudge-like tone.
Connor slowly walked up to the Traci, reaching his hand to her forearm.
"Holy shit, Connor...What the hell are you doin'?"
"It saw something." He turned to his comrades.
"What? What did it see?" (Y/N) asked.
"The deviant leave the room...A blue-haired Traci. Club policy is to wipe the androids' memory every two hours. We only have a few minutes if we wanna find another witness." His speech was fast, so (Y/N) knew they needed to act faster.
The pattern repeated, Anderson & (L/N) following the RK800 around, Hank renting androids if needed as witnesses. There were so many androids, so many rooms, so how were they going to find a deviant amongst all the programmed bots? They were weaving in & out of blue, purple & red rooms, (Y/N) trying her best not to make eye contact with any of the Tracis.
"I know where it went! Follow me!" Connor called to the two humans.
"Fucking-A. This is crazy..."
"I pray for you credit card."
They approached the Staff door, walking through the white bricked hallway.
"Wait!" Connor stopped in front of the door at the end of the hall because of Hank's yell.
"I'll take it from here."
Both Connor & (Y/N) took a few steps back. Hank opened the door, which led to a back area, Tracis stocked inside it along with boxes & shelves. It was a warehouse of a sort. He had his gun in hand, (Y/N)'s resting on her belt.
"Shit. We're too late."
(Y/N) looked around the warehouse, almost in horror as Connor looked around the area inquisitively.
"Christ, look at them." Hank said miserably. "They get used until they break, & then tossed out."
She couldn't tear her eyes away from the sight of all these androids being kept in a warehouse as if they were just assets of making money.
"People are fucking insane!" Hank yelled. "They don't want relationships anymore, everybody just gets an android. They cook what you want, they screw when you want & you don't have to worry about how they feel. Next thing you know, we're going to be extinct cause everybody would rather buy a piece of plastic then to love another human being. Beats me."
She saw Connor crouching; Blue Blood stained his fingers.
"Found something?"
"Blue Blood's been dropped at certain points across this area."
"Maybe...a trail? The deviant might be injured?"
"Possibly..."
She saw him walking around the area, towards one on the banks that held Tracis. One of them suddenly bolted at him, pushing him away. Both Hank & (Y/N) were immediately in pursue. (Y/N) pulled her gun out, pointing at the Traci that was attacking Connor. She was pummelled to the ground by the android they were going after.
The blue-haired Traci that killed Michael.
Struggling, she managed to de-attach the deviant's claws from her shoulders, elbowing it in the side of the head to stun it. Connor threw the android that ran at him over a crate, Hank trying to help (Y/N) get the attacker away. She pushed its shoulder into the nearest wall as the RK800 had the other android in a choke-hold – a screw driver in its hand.
The blue-haired Traci was now going for Hank, pushing him into one of the metal pillars. (Y/N) didn't want to risk shooting the Traci, so she kicked it in the back of where the knee joint would usually sit, which resulted in her getting thrown into a wall harshly by the android. A loud ruckus came from where Connor was as he pushed several objects in the way of the Traci who was after him. He was fighting the android until they both went tumbling out the large doorway that lead outside.
The blue-haired Traci now had a face of distress, releasing her grip on (Y/N)'s throat & going after the other Eden-Android that was laying on the ground. She lifted the other Traci up, & (Y/N) caught eye of their hands.
They were holding hands, which often shows affection or love towards two people. It hit (Y/N) like a bus.
They're in love.
She saw Hank reaching out to stop them.
"Hank, wait!" He was already being pushed to the ground.
"QUICK! THEY'RE GETTING AWAY!" Anderson yelled.
The Tracis were running towards the tall chain-link fence, Connor on their tail. (Y/N) held back the urge to grab him by the back of the jacket & slow him down. At that moment he was gripping the blue-haired android's shoulder, pulling her off the fence.
He was attacked by both of them at once, (Y/N) running in to throw the brunette Traci off of him, which resulted in her getting barged into a brick wall, her head hitting the wall as she made an attempt to shove her attacker off. When she did, she kicked it so it ran into the fence. (Y/N) saw it watching Connor with a look of anger & she instantly threw it to the ground, pinning its hands down as it kicked & struggled. The blue-haired Traci went after her & kicked her in the ribs. She doubled over with a groan, cursing under her breath.
Her previous attacker ran towards Connor as the other was holding her to the ground until she shoved it off. Connor had his gun trained on the deviant.
"Connor, don't!" She yelled as the blue-haired Traci reunited with the other Eden-android. Connor's eyes darted over to (Y/N), & she knew what he was going to do next.
He lowered his gun, the brunette kicking him backwards, but he regained his stance quickly. (Y/N) pulled herself up using the wall, Connor coming to assist her with a look of concern on his face. She looked up at him & nodded, as if saying she was okay despite the large gash she could feel across her shoulder blade.
"When that man broke the other Traci...I knew I was next..." blue-haired spoke, her LED a flickering yellow.
"I was so scared..." Her voice faltered.
"I begged him to stop, but he wouldn't...And so I put my hands around his throat, & I squeezed...until he stopped moving......
I didn't mean to kill him...I just wanted to stay alive...get back to the one I love."
She was holding hands with the other Traci, both of them looking intently at each other. Connor looked down at (Y/N)'s free hand for a second, before keeping his gaze trained on the android who was talking.
"I wanted her to hold me in her arms again...Make me forget about the humans...their smell of sweat & their dirty words."
"Come on, let's go."
With that, the two deviants ran towards the fence & climbed over it, running away with each other.
"It's probably better this way..." Hank stated, making his exit afterwards. Connor was still staring at where the deviants were momentarily. (Y/N) patted him on the shoulder & he turned to face her.
"No matter what anyone says, no matter how much you deny it. You did the right thing." She half-smiled at him, both of them turning to the fence that the girls escaped over.
"They really seemed in love." She looked at Connor.
"Love's a human emotion." She took a step back, the android looking at her with a buzzing yellow LED.
"I'll let you figure this one out yourself." She gave one last look at him, with that very same half-smile, before making her way back to the front curb, awaiting a cab.
