-Y/N-
"So, what do you think is in there?" Lucy gripped the railing hard as we started off at the Dark Island that we were rapidly approaching.
"Our worst nightmares." Caspian replied.
"Our darkest wishes." Peter added.
"Pure evil." I summarized.
"Tavros, unlock the armory." Edmund ordered to a man behind him.
"My lord." Tavros bowed and left immediately.
We got closer.
"Archers, prepare yourselves." Drinian announced.
"Aye, Captain."
"Light the lanterns. Let's get ready." Everyone was tense.
Peter was beside me as I looked ahead. But I felt someone else come and stand on my other side. I assumed it was Susan, or Lucy, but I was surprised to see Caspian.
"I just... wanted to apologize for my behavior towards you." He started. I could feel his gaze on me, but I clenched my jaw and looked ahead. "I was greedy with your power. I didn't care to understand how you'd feel like. You're not a tool to use in combat, you're not a weapon I can wield. You're a person... one I can only hope to gain the trust, respect, and hopefully...." He put a hand over mine on the railing which forced me to look to him. "...the love of." He finished. "I'm sorry."
His words had hurt me, but I knew from the start Caspian was one of true intentions. Perhaps the mist had played with his head. I mean, I almost used a spell in which I made my husband and the people I hold close almost disappear. Besides, no one likes to hold a grudge when impending doom is ahead.
"I forgive you, Caspian." I smiled. He mirrored it, relief washing over him. He turned to leave when I gripped his hand once more. "And for the record, I have always trusted, respected, and even loved you." I assured him.
"And I you." He bowed slightly, leaving. I watched him walk off, a certain bounce to his step. I wondered how many days he had kept this apology as a burden in his heart.
"Let's not forget another person you love." Peter's voice interrupted my thoughts. I turned to face him smugly.
"Ah yes, have you seen Lucy around?" I asked him.
He huffed crossing his arms and stepping back. "You know who I meant." He grumbled.
I pretended to be deep in thought and slightly confused at his words. "Do you mean Harry, he's not even around-"
But I was interrupted with his lips promptly on mine. I kissed back with passion, moving his lips with determined motion. With his hands, he grabbed my face, making the kiss deeper.
He broke apart and stared into my eyes. "That should give you a hint." He smirked.
"I think I need another kiss just to be sure." I replied.
He frowned but then leaned forward, peppering my face with little kisses. Between each kiss, he mumbled words. "High...King...Pete...er...Pevensie...the...Mag...ni...ficent." With the last words he pulled me in for another long kiss.
"Oh, that Peter. I guess I love him too." I shrugged.
"He loves you too." Peter touched our foreheads together in silence. Nothing but the waves crashing against the ship.
"In case we don't get through whatever this is..." Peter started but I interrupted him.
"We're going to get through this." I replied. He paused, then nodded.
"Come on then, let's meet our destiny." Peter grinned in response.
The ship came to a stop right at the mouth of the cave entrance of Dark Island.
"No matter what happens here... every soul who stands before me has earned their place... on the crew of the Dawn Treader." Caspian announced at the helm of the ship. "Together we have traveled far. Together we have faced adversity. Together we can do it again." He raised his sword.
"So now is not the time to fall to fear's temptations. Be strong. Never give in. Our world... our Narnian lives, depend on it. Think of the lost souls we're here to save. Think of Aslan. Think of Narnia." Edmund said.
"For Narnia! For Narnia! For Narnia!" The entire crew chanted as the ship moved forward. Peter and I looked ahead, our hands intertwined together.
As we entered, I realized why it was called Dark Island.
-3rd Person Perspective-
"I can't see a thing." Y/N murmured.
"This fog's too thick." Peter noted.
Each of the crew members stood in silence, utterly still. It wasn't long before the green smoke came. Some people jumped back as the tendrils swirled around their feet.
But instead of clouding over the crew, the smoke took different shapes in front of them. Each members' fears formed in front of their eyes. Too abstract to be noticed, but the voices were all too familiar.
"You are a great disappointment to me." One such figure said near Caspian. Caspian raised his sword at the smoke. Was it his father....? It couldn't be... "You call yourself my son, then act like a king." The voice harshly replied. Caspian wanted to strike it, but his arm felt like lead. He couldn't move.
"Peter, come with me." Another shape took form near Peter. This one was clear as ice. "Be my king." The White Witch crooned. Peter raised his sword to her face. "I'll let you rule." She offered.
"I'm already a King. I already rule. Go away. You're dead." Peter shouted. But only he could see the figure. Y/N stood beside him, confused as to who he was talking to.
"You can never kill me." The White Witch smiled coldly. "I'll always be alive in your mind, silly boy."
"No!" Peter blindly slashed forward, the White Witch dissipating.
"Peter?" Y/N put a hand on his shoulder, to which he jolted. "Are you alright?" She asked softly?
His heart beat had quickened with the encounter, but just staring into Y/N's eyes made him feel calmer and more grounded.
"Yeah." Peter nodded, lowering his sword.
Then from this distance came a loud voice, to which everyone was surprised to hear. "Keep away! Keep away!"
"Who's there?" Edmund quickly came to the side of the ship closest to where the voice had come from. One of the crew members pointed a light at the voice. It revealed to be an old man, barely wearing scraps of clothing, standing on the edge of a rock.
"We do not fear you." Susan called out.
"Nor I you. Keep away!" The old man responded.
"We will not leave." Lucy defiantly said.
"You will not defeat me!" The old man shouted, pulling out a sword and wildly swinging it.
Peter first recognized it.
"Caspian. Caspian, his sword!" Peter pointed.
Caspian was quick to catch on. "Lord Rhoop?" He called out.
"You do not own me!" The Lord yelled out.
"Stand down." Caspian ordered and the archers lowered their aims. Caspian ran around, trying to get materials. "Let's get him on board, quickly. Help him up."
"Ready, sir." Drinian got the necessary equipment.
"Be calm, my lord." Caspian assured the Lord.
"Off me, demon!" The Lord shouted as he was helped up onto the ship.
"No, my lord. We are not here to hurt you." Caspian approached him gently once he was on deck. "I am your king, Caspian."
"Caspian? " As recognition filled the Lord's eyes, the worry off his face only grew larger.
"My lord?" Caspian asked about the sudden horror on the Lord's face.
"You should not have come. There's no way out of here." As he said those words, many of the crew's stomachs plummeted. "Quickly... turn this ship about, before it's too late." The Lord warned.
"We have the sword. Let's go!" Peter said.
"Let's turn her about, Drinian." Caspian said, a bit hurriedly.
"Aye-aye, Your Majesty."
Lord Rhoop walked forward until he came across Edmund. He gripped Edmund's shoulders tightly.
"Do not think. Do not let it know your fears... or it will become them." The Lord whispered.
But that was the first mistake the Lord made.
For the mere mention of a thought turns it into one.
Edmund's eyes widened as images flashed in his mind.
"Oh, no. Edmund, what did you just think of?" Y/N grasped onto his arm in worry.
"Oh, I'm sorry." Edmund shook his head, his face became pale.
"Look!" Someone shouted.
"What is that?"
"It's too late." Edmund shook his head quietly. "It's too late!" Edmund yelled out, now jumping into action.
"It's gone under the boat!" Caspian noticed. We all stood tense, waiting on what it was. And then it came forth, rearing its ugly head as it struck the ship.
There was a sea serpent attacking the Dawn Treader.
"No fear!" Y/N shouted to the crew, raising her sword.
"No retreat." Peter added, raising his sword as well.
"For Narnia!" (If I had a nickel for every time they yelled out this phrase...jeez)
The sea serpent was large, but not as large as the ship. As it attacked, it only broke parts of it. The crew tried to hold him off, the occasional arrow pricking its skin, but nothing seemed to work.
That's when Eustace swooped in.
"Yah! Eustace, hang on!" The crew cheered as the dragon fought the sea serpent. They were locked in a battle and it seemed like Eustace might have a chance.
Then the Lord made his second mistake.
He threw the sword at the sea serpent, hoping to hit it, but it swerved and it hit Eustace instead.
"No!" Reepicheep exclaimed, hopping off Eustace and getting on the ship.
"The sword!" Lucy shouted out.
But Eustace was in too much pain to listen to anything. All he could feel was the burn of agony spreading from the sword all in his chest. Eustace flew right, then left, then dipped, then realized he had to get out of here. So he flew out.
"The sword! Eustace! No! Come back!" Y/N shouted, but Eustace was long gone.
"We're all doomed! Doomed!" Lord Rhoop yelled, taking cover.
"Turn this ship about! Stop him!" Caspian ordered. "Now, crew... to your rowing positions. Oars at double speed!"
"Aslan, please help us." Lucy muttered a single prayer.
"Pull! Pull! Pull! Put your back into it! Pull!" The crew worked hard, putting every bit of strength into getting them out. But they were never going to make it.
And Y/N realized that before anyone else.
She closed her eyes, feeling around for that power that had come before. She felt it tug at her. It was ready.
"I won't let you do this!" Peter shook her and her concentration faded.
"Pete, there's no way out, I have to do this." She lightly pushed him away.
"We'll find a way." He pleaded. But then something behind his eyes hardened. "I'll find a way." He gritted before running off.
"Peter!" Y/N followed behind him.
"We'll ram the serpent. Smash him on the rocks." Peter didn't listen to Y/N, but talked directly to Peter and Caspian.
"Let me help." Y/N protested.
"Steer her to port." Caspian nodded, agreeing to the plan.
"I'll keep it on the prow." Peter said, running off again.
"Peter!" Y/N ran after again. Peter went to the prow and started taunting the sea serpent.
"Try and kill me!" He called out.
"Peter you're going to kill yourself." Y/N tugged at his arm hopelessly.
But he ignored her, climbing the ropes that led upwards to the crow's nest. "Come on! Come on, I'm here!" He faced the sea serpent.
"No! Peter!" Y/N started to climb up as well.
"Archers... ready yourselves." Edmund yelled out
"I'm still here!" Peter caught the attention of the sea serpent.
"Brace yourselves!" The arrows shot out and hit the sea serpent while the ship thrashed him against a rock.
For the first time, visible injury could be seen on the sea serpent.
"We can beat this." Peter said, noticing the damage their plan did to the creature. "We just have to get it closer."
"All hands to the main deck. Ready the harpoons. I want everybody up here! Ready?" Edmund yelled.
"Aye, sir!"
"Now! Pull its head down! Heave!"
Y/N didn't care what Peter said, she was going to help. She wasn't some maiden who needed saving. She was a fighter. She was a Queen.
She was a Miracle.
She used her powers to pull the serpent downward with one hand. With the other she rammed the ship harder into him.
The serpent lurched forward, his head near Peter who had his sword raised in the crow's nest.
But Peter was not only battling the serpent, but he was also battling the White Witch's smoke projection that was convincing him to join her.
Peter tried to stay focused on the serpent, but her voice in his ear made it impossible to.
No one but Y/N could've guessed what he was going through. And so, she called out to him. "On three Peter! I'll help!"
This time, Peter did not refuse. Instead, he looked down at the sword that was now glowing blue. This was his chance. "One." He shouted.
"Two." Y/N said after.
"Three!" They both yelled together.
Peter jabbed his sword upward, right into the mouth of the serpent. Y/N used her spell to help Peter force his sword upward and at the same time force the serpent downward.
The serpent hissed as the sword struck him and fell into the waters. It slowly drowned below, disappearing beneath the surface of the water.
Y/N collapsed, holding onto the rope for dear life. Peter noticed and immediately started climbing back down, helping her along.
They reached the ground and she sat down, Peter holding her in his arms.
"Why do you do this to yourself?" Peter whispered as she lay her head on his chest.
"Why would you risk your life like that?" She posed another question. As their eyes met, they knew they had the same answer to both questions.
"For you." They both said together, managing a smile.
"The spell... it's lifting." Y/N noticed, her eyes flitting upwards to the sky. Indeed, the darkness was being cut through by rays of light. And as the darkness left, people in boats appeared in the waters. All the people that had been sacrificed.
"Peter! Caspian! Look! Narnians! Narnians! Let's have them on board! Clear the decks. We did it. I knew we would." Lucy ran around with joy.
People jumped down from the ship to swim towards the survivors. Everyone rejoiced in the waters, their laughter echoing around.
And amidst the people in the ocean, there was even Eustace, paddling happily, cheering to be back in his human body.
