ASHLEY
'Why, what happened?' I ask, my voice being shaky. My mind is surrounded with hundreds of questions but they need to be asked sequentially.
'Well, actually, we had a charity football game to play today. Harry approached the goal and naturally, he shot the ball but it was a bit too harsh. That's when he twisted a muscle plus, an opponent player frantically pushed him from behind. He landed really hard, on his knee.' He stops speaking and sighs, waiting for me to say something. Wow. All of this happened to Harry in the past 12 hours and no one even bothered to tell me.
'So...what, um, what happened to him? Is it really serious?'My voice cracks halfway. It happens when I'm too tensed or worried.
'The doctor came just before I called you. They finished the surgery. Thank God, it's a mild MCL sprain with grade 1 symptoms. Therefore, it'll take around 2-4 weeks to heal.' Liam finishes and I sigh quietly in relief. Thank God.
'When can I speak to him?' I ask.
'Probably after he's out of the operation room' he informs.
'Ashley! Come downstairs, honey. It's time for dinner!'My mum bellows from perhaps the dining room. I'm pretty sure Liam heard it, if he's still there.
'Um, alright. Please tell Harry to call me. Bye Liam.' I hang up even before he could say a goodbye. I plug my phone to the charger and head downstairs, trying hard not to look tensed. I smell the aroma of the cooked turkey from the staircase, which enlightens me up a bit.
HARRY
I feel numb and a bit nauseous after waking up. My knee is wrapped with some sort of covering, which I have no idea what it's called. It feels quite heavy around that area, making it quite difficult for me to move my leg. Ugh I hate this.
The doctor asks two of the nurses to shift me to the other room. One of them is acting like a slag around me. She's continuously smirking and I don't even want to talk about how she has worn her uniform. Honestly, how is she even a nurse? She continues her slutty behavior, but I just don't give a rat's ass. I roll my eyes and look away. Women like her don't fascinate me, at all.
After properly settling down in the room, Liam enters. I smile at him and slowly sit up.He hands me my phone and my expression fades away when I see missed calls from Ashley.
'Don't worry, I managed to answer the last one' he tells me and I heave a sigh of relief.
'What did she say?' I inquire.
'She was quite worried at first because the calls weren't received. I picked it up after having a short chat with the nurse. I told her about the circumstances that took place today.'
'And.... what did she say?' I interrogate, clearly asking him to continue until the conclusion.
'You' he points at me, smirking weakly. 'Gotta call her after this.' He simply finishes off, releasing a smile. That was pretty straightforward. Liam pats my shoulder and exits the room, leaving me all alone in this dimly lit hospital room. It's 1 am right now, so it's probably around 8 pm at her place. I pick my phone and scroll through my contacts. Without waiting any longer, I press on the call button.
ASHLEY
(Please play the song)
I managed to finish dinner as quickly as possible. Mum was quite astounded by that, joking that I did not want family company. That's definitely not the case though. I climb the stairs and hear my phone go off. Crap. I gallop my way to my room, with a thermal flask and a bag of chips. I lock the doors and put them on the nightstand. I unplug my phone and see the calls. He requested for video calls. I smile at that idea and bring out my laptop, which was already on. He calls again and I answer it at that point.
'Heyyya' he waves his hand and I wave back. The hospital room looked dimly lit and I assume he's alone in it. Perfect opportunity, I think.
'Hi...that hospital bed must be comfortable' I sarcastically exclaim making him shake his head.
'Yeah. My knees are definitely gonna recover if I stay here for 6 weeks' he jokes making me laugh softly.
'I guess you shouldn't play football again..' I say.
'It's not about that. That douche, for some reason. just had to push me aggressively' he complains, touching his knee.
'I guess he was pissed off' I say and he nods.
'Yeah, but we won, so I guess this injury is worth it' he explains.
'And, Harry, you gotta learn how to kick properly next time. Honestly, who kicks that hard and then ends up falling on his knees?' I tease him and he pouts, pretending a poking gesture. He would've clearly poked me if we were talking in person.
The door of Harry's room is knocked, and it surprises me that it's audible. Harry rolls his eyes when he sees the person who entered. It's the nurse, who is visible in the background. She keeps smiling at Harry but he simply ignores it. She does look like a slag, who simply wants attention from him. Her dress-up is also inappropriate. How is she a nurse?
'Mr. Styles, do you drink tea with or without sugar?' she asks, with a fake and intimidating tone. Harry, on the other hand, is smartly handling this situation. Looks like he has experienced it a lot before. The nurse's smile soon fades away as she puts a glimpse on Harry's laptop screen. I quickly go on my phone and pretend to not notice that.
'Are you done? I require some privacy' Harry tells her exasperatedly. She quickly arranges the tea and heads towards the exit.
'Yes, Mr.Styles, I'm sorry' she apologizes. She glares at the screen before exiting, with a look of disappointment. I notice it from the corner of my eye. I wonder what she thought I was to him.
'I'm sorry, she's one annoying nurse.' he apologizes and crosses his arms, after adjusting the laptop.
'She seemed like one. She really tried enough to seek your attention' I tell him and he nods.
'Well, she kept glaring at me for some reason and after seeing me, she kinda changed her behavior. It's like she thought of me as your girlfriend or something.' I tell him.
'Yeah, well, you are my girlfriend.' My stomach jolts and it feels like I'm sent to another planet. My expression slightly changes. What did he just say?
'Hey chill, I'm just joking. We're best friends.' He clarifies himself and I let out an inaudible 'oh'. I clearly thought he was serious for a second. My cheeks flush because of my embarrassment on my thoughts.
Honestly, why would he be serious? He's Harry Styles. He doesn't need a girl like you...
My own voice echoes in my head, bringing my mood down. Me and my pessimistic thoughts. Well, I guess I can believe this one.
Soon enough, Harry brings me back to reality by snapping his fingers.
'What were you thinking?' he asks.
'Thinking of when we'll actually meet in person again.' I lie.
'Very soon.' he assures me and I raise my eyebrows. Soon? Nope. Not until he recovers from his knee injury.
'Can't wait to get out of this hospital, once and for all' he tells me.
'No I think the hospital is where you belong. You can stay with that nurse. She'll definitely take good care of you.' I joke and he shakes his head jestingly, with a soft laugh. His dimples appear, which look cute when he smiles widely.
'Harry, I'll say goodnight to you now. Take care of yourself, alright?'
'Yes, I will, mother. Good night.' He chuckles before hanging up. I put my laptop away and look out of my window. There are a few people in the neighborhood who are decorating the trees with... lights? What's happening? My eyebrows widen as I rack my mind to remember. As soon as I remembered, I face palm myself.
It's Christmas Eve and New Years in two weeks!
