I'll Be Waiting

"What happened at the factory?" Brian was in my room cleaning up my wounds.  I was lying on my bed, and I winced every time he put antiseptic on my cuts.

"None of ya business." I retorted, weakly.  It was only a few hours after the fight, and I felt absolutely awful.  I felt like I had a concussion, and my body felt so heavy to move.  It was most likely from Adrian's paralysis.

"Well, you made it mine when you played the role of a damsel in distress." He sat down on my bed and handed me a cup of warm water.  Of course, my hands fumbled with the cup because I was too weak.  Luckily, Brian grabbed it before I could spill it all over myself.  He lifted the cup up to my lips and gently tilted the cup up.  I'd never thought I'd see the day where Brian would see this weak side of me.  It was mortifying, and I hated being so helpless.

"B-but I wasn't even..."  My cheeks flamed. I was an independent person, so I would never rely on someone else, especially Brian, to save me. I didn't believe in that shit. He leaned in and kissed the tip of my nose delicately.  My cheeks were now burning.

"You needed help and you were going to die out there if I didn't follow you.  You're lucky I was trailing you," he whispered, looking into my eyes.  He caressed my face and rubbed my cheeks back and forth with his thumb.  Unfortunately, it was quite comforting and I leaned into the warmth of his hand.

"You were stalking me?"  I murmured..

"That's one way to look at it. Another perspective is that I was preventing you from throwing your life away."

"I was not thro-" I began defiantly.

"Because you're so headstrong and might duel my brother again, I might not even get to ask you out." Well, that was quite unexpected.

"Are you saying what I think you are?" My eyes widened at the thought.

"Rena, will you go out with me?"

"I-I..." I honestly was at a loss for words.  I think I could've died on my bed with him just staring at me.  Brian smiled cheekily.  I didn't even realize he had small dimples.

"Great.  6:00 same buffet.  See ya there."  He kissed my forehead and left through the window.

Before the big date, I turned on the TV for a little background noise.  Coincidentally, the anchor was reporting on various crimes throughout the city.  I had laid out all my clothes on my bed to see which one I would wear..  Not that I had any dresses or skirts or anything remotely formal.  All you could really see was black in my drawer.  Even all of my shoes were black.

Eventually, I settled for picking out yet another entire black outfit.  This was my first date, so what was I supposed to wear?  I had never been officially asked out before. I certainly didn't want to tell my mother otherwise she'd be up in my business.

"A man has been found murdered in the city here in Manhattan.  His body was found at approximately 6 PM.  Witnesses heard a few gun shots being fired and said the killer was an Asian male.  The killer is missing as well as some metal his shop sells."  My ears perked up a bit.  I slowly forgot my wardrobe troubles and focused on the TV.  It couldn't have been him, could it?

"Coincidentally, there have been more murders similar to this one.  Police have not found a connection, but are thoroughly investigating the-"

I grabbed for my remote and shut off my TV.  I threw my remote viciously onto my bed and breathed deeply.

It's just a coincidence.

It was only a coincidence.

I was waiting at the entrance of the buffet looking at my watch.  It was 6, and Brian wasn't there yet.  Hypocrite.

After five minutes, I saw him running wildly.  He was dressed casually, although his shirt was dirty from god knows what and his hair was disheveled.  He was panting like a dog.  He bent down and rested his palms on his knees, trying to catch his breath.  It was quite a sight.

"So-sorry I w-was late," he gasped for more air.  I smiled at his sincere apology.

"That's alright," I mused.  After a few minutes, he straightened up and held out his hand in front of me.

"Shall we?" he said, trying to imitate an English accent.  I merely took his hand and he guided me into the buffet.

At the buffet, I ate sushi with wasabi, crabs, and cocktail shrimp with some cheesecake for dessert. Brian stuffed his face with everything I ate, only he also had lamb chops, pork chops, noodles, soup, bubble tea, ice cream, chicken, spring rolls, and strawberries covered in fudge.  By the time he was done eating, he couldn't even move from his seat.  He groaned when he stood up.

After we had finished eating, it was 7:00.  It was a rather enjoyable evening.  Brian binged on food again and I ate just enough to fill up my stomach.  He insisted on paying once again, and honestly, I had a good time.

As Brian and I started to walk out of the buffet, my phone started to vibrate in my pocket.  It was the agency.  Leave it to the agency to ruin a good time.  I flipped open my cell, wanting to get the conversation over with.

"What?" I asked annoyed.  Brian gave me a puzzled look.

"Be careful around Brian.  He's not who you think he is." Marissa spoke monotonously.

"I'm gonna need a minute." I mouthed to Brian.  I walked a few feet away from him.  Brian just stood still on his spot and looked up at the sky.

"What do you mean?" I asked, suspiciously.

"Look at the news.  You heard about the man who died in Manhattan?" Marissa queried.

"Well, yeah." Where was Marissa going with this?

"And what time was your little date with Brian?"

"W-what?" I stammered, blushing furiously.  How the hell did she know?

"We watch all of our spies carefully, just to be sure they're not betraying us.  And by the way how was your little spat with his twin?" She asked, much too sweetly to my dislike.

"I...ugh...  Just tell me about him.  What's so dangerous about him?"

"You need to find out for yourself."  Then, Marissa hung up on me.  What was the point of warning me if she wasn't even going to tell me what was so dangerous?  I furiously closed my phone and shoved it into my pocket.  I breathed in heavily to keep calm, but it wasn't working.  I didn't even hear Brian sneak up behind me.

"Well, I guess this is the part where I kiss you."

I jumped up a little.  I hadn't even heard Brian sneak up on me.  Had he heard my conversation?  Brian stepped closer and gave me a bear hug.  I blushed and he finally released me.  He leaned in and kissed me on the lips.

Damn.  I could get used to this.

My heart rate sped up and I wrapped my arms around his neck to deepen the kiss. I actually had learned how to kiss using the internet, so hopefully I did a good job. I was pretty chill about everything, until his tongue started playing with my bottom lip.  I gasped in surprise and embarrassment.  We finally stepped back for air, still embracing each other.

"Thanks for the nice meal Rena," Brian said.

"No worries, you paid for it." I laughed, and so did Brian.

"Well, I got to go.  See you some other time."  I gave him a hug and hurried home.  But one thing was constantly in my mind.

What's so dangerous about Brian?
