I am driving Elena and I back to my house when I receive a call from Lisa. Unexpectedly, its even the work number not her personal number. I answer the call.
"Mr Harris, you've got to come by right away. There has been an issue that needs your attendance immediately." I hear Lisa speak as fast as she could over the phone.
"Okay, Lisa. Calm down and tell me exactly what's happening." I command, and she sighs.
"Mr Fatim, he's here, holding the deal and he wants you to sign it." Lisa states, and I chuckle of excitement.
Mr Fatim is a great investment.
"I'm on my way." I say, dropping the call as I look at Elena who seems shook.
"You're on your way." Elena says with an interrogative tone, and I giggle as I hold her hand while driving and I kiss it on top.
"I've got a big deal to sign, it will be quick. I'll just sign and we'll be back on the road." I utter.
"No, thanks. I'm tired, so you can drop me off at Patricia's house." She says, and before I can even give her my puppy eyes, she looks away to say, "Ah, ah. I'm tired, Justin."
"Okay, fine. Can I atleast call at night." I beg.
"Fine." She let's out with an annoyed tone, but eventually smiles at the end.
"Let me just drop you off before Lisa calls again, I hope he's keeping Mr Fatim busy." I affirm of excitement I can't possibly hide. "I would like you to meet him by the way." I continue.
"Probably not today." She comments, and I am guessing she must really be tired.
Okay fine, she wins.
ELENA
As Justin has dropped me at Patricia's, she's not home and she is not picking up her phone. So, as annoyed and tired as I am I catch a cab to my home.
To my surprise, I find Lisa waiting by the gate. At first I think my eyes must be deceiving me, until I step out the car and its really her in the flesh. I am shook, what is she doing here?
"Lisa." I let out, followed by a nervous giggle. "Shouldn't you still be at the company, with Justin?" I ask.
God, her smile is creeping me out because she is acting so strange.
"I came to let you know that you have a meeting with Mr Fatim as a restaurant I will detail to you at 8 tomorrow." She let's out. Did she have to come all the way here just to say that?
"Oh, thank you. Is that all?" I ask.
"Yes, have a good night Mrs Sam." She leaves, and I walk through the gate. After I I've walked in, I turn back to find her nowhere to be seen. She's definitely acting like a serial killer.
7am
"Elena!" I hear a familiar voice call repeatedly, but telling myself that I am dreaming because it sounds like Patricia, I roll over the other side groaning. "Elena, you're an hour late for work." I wake up hesitantly at the saying.
Shooting my eyes open, I meet Patricia standing before my bed and I rub my eyes. I've got to be dreaming.
"What are you doing here?" I inquire.
"To get you for work, make up cause I couldn't the last time I promised." She replies, and I groan as I intend to get back to bed. I don't know, I feel so recklessly tired.
"You are an hour late for work, idiot. It's 7am." Patricia states, and my eyes shoot open at the saying.
If I am an hour late for work, that means I am also an hour late for my meeting with Mr Fatim. I quickly jump off the bed, running around the room as I try to prepare myself as fast as I can until I have hopped into my white fluffy sandals heels, a two piece suit with my purse and I head out with Patricia.
"Hell, I'm not riding a car driven by her." That's my feelings as I see Isabella in the driver's seat.
"Come on, let's go." Issa says.
"Do you have a driver's license? Did the cops say you're fit enough to be back on the road?" I interrogate. The last time Issa was on the road, her license got banned for overtaking ten cars in one road at a higher speed than a limited one.
Since I am desperate to get to work, I get in the car. Issa drives to drop me off at my destination first, which they both say it seems dodgy and offer they'll wait in the parking lot incase their right. I so hope Mr Fatim shows up and disappoints their sorry faces. These are my thoughts as an hour and forty five minutes goes by and I'm still waiting.
When two whole hours go by, I decide to stand up from where I'm seated and head back to Issa and Patricia. I wonder how they both got an off on the same day, I grave for one, especially after this dodgy meeting Lisa set me up for. I wonder what are her intentions.
"Next time trust your friends, boo." Issa says, driving away as I just giggle and let the wind blowing through the window carry my hair away.
What could be Lisa's intention? I wonder.
The next thing, my thoughts are disturbed by a police siren chasing our car. What have we done now? I ask myself as Issa slowly pulls aside.
"We're going to jail." Patricia freaks out.
"Ladies." The police officer says after a few minutes we have pulled over. We can barely utter a word. "Mam, can I see your driver's license." He continues.
Oh, oh.
"Oh, yes. That...uhm...it's at home." Issa gets off.
"Mam, how are you on the road driving without your driver's license. I can't even be sure if it's really there." The officer states, not sounding pleased at all.
"I swear I just forgot it, you can ask my friends. Right guys?" Issa pulls us into her savage lies, mostly me who had saw this coming.
"Yeah, yeah. It's at home." Patricia and i utter together, nodding our heads for convenience.
"Mam, I'm gonna need you to step out." The offer commands Issa, and she turns off the engine as she steps out of the car.
"Oh, Holy Jesus. I've got to call my mom, tell her I won't be seeing her at all tonight. I'll be sleeping in the cells." Patricia starts going through her purse to search for her phone. Until a loud clearing of throat catches both our attention and we look to the window to see the officer looking at us. Don't tell me we are also getting off the car.
"Thanks a lot, guys. This was amazing, I might as well lose my job by the end of the day." I breath out.
"We're at stake here too, remember." Issa affirms, and I chuckle.
"Says people who are on their off day. I had a work place to get to today, and now I can't because I'm busy stuck here looking in the both of your eyes." I yell. Now I'm the one freaking out.
"If looking at us is such a big deal then go ahead and face that idiot of an officer in the eyes, I bet he's much better than facing us." Patricia let's out, and I gasp.
4 freaking hours go by. We look like...I don't know what. But people who lack common sense. It's hot and we're our here watching police officers do their job, and I feel like an ice cream on a hot day. Why are we being held captive here in the middle of the road? What is the use of the cell? Cause we can just wait there for whatever they are making us wait for.
"My heels are killing me." I groan.
"Help." Patricia sounds so lifeless as she is leaning on the car.
"Tell my ex I said I wish he breaks a leg when he kisses that b_tch of a girlfriend. " Issa utters slowly, sitting down beside the car.
JUSTIN
"Wait, pull over. That looks like Miss Sam." I address as we pass by a mini Cooper parked aside and I notice Elena and how tired she looks.
I step out of the car as I approach, and the officer also approaches as he looks like he is about to also treat me like he is treating them.
"Elena, what's going on?" I inquire.
"Huh..." Elena let's out, looking like she can barely even stand still.
"Sir, you should stand at a distance and let us do our work." The offer says, and I scoff as I rub my chin.
"Right." I whisper. "Do you know who I am?" I ask, getting close to him. "Now I am not here to make a request, I am here to command you to let this ladies go since you have no valid reason for keeping them here, before i sue you for making them wait without explaining what is the problem." I speak in authority, and the officer bends his heads.
"I'm sorry, sir." He says.
"Good, now hop back to work before I think otherwise." I threat, approaching Elena as I catch her and carry her in my arms and her eyes immediately shut close. "I'll take Elena, make sure her friends get home safe." I say to my driver.
I drive Elena back to my house and get her in my room as I remove the heels from her feet, she must be tired. I wonder how long they made them stand, I should take action so these people know never to do anything like this before. I cover her with the duvet as she sleeps beautifully and peacefully. I lay a kiss on her forehead as I sit at my study table after.
"Lisa, there has been a sudden emergency. I'll continue work from home." I call Lisa and let her know.
Wait a minute, why was Elena not at work in the first place? Could she have been made to wait there since morning? I begin to be curious. Or, she ditched work just to spend time with her friends. No, she's not that stupid.
As I am busy typing a file and this side thinking about Elena, Mr Fatim's call does the honour. I sigh before I could reply, he had to meet Elena today. Forgot about that.
"I'm really sorry, Mr Fatim. Miss Sam had a sudden illness." I let him know.
"That's okay, I was just calling to invite the two of you my anniversary party tomorrow. I am inviting all the heirs, I would like all your company people for a matter of fact to be there to celebrate." Mr Fatim states.
"Oh, really. Wow. Congratulations. We'll surely be there. Thank you." I end the call.
2HOURS LATER
"Why am I in your bed?" I turn to find Elena wide awake, and I chuckle as I turn to face her.
"Because you needed a rest." I reply. "Let me just inform Mavis you're awake so she could bring in your food." I make a quick call as Elena is still shook.
"Good day, Miss Sam." That's Mrs Mavis.
As Elena digs into her food, I stand up from the table as I sit on the bed beside her. Talk about being hungry. She is acting like she has not seen food in ages. I'm guessing my assumptions were right, they surely stood there for a long time.
"What were you doing there with your friends? Weren't you supposed to be at work?" I interrogate.
She sighs as she puts the fork awake, having a sip of her wine before she could open her mouth to say anything.
"I went to meet Mr Fatim at a restaurant Lisa had requested me, but I waited for two hours and he never showed up. So, we bumped into the police and Issa was the one driving and she has no license, so they told us to wait." She elaborates.
Now, I'm confused.
"Mr Fatim!" I exclaim. "On who's conditions cause my schedule says we had a meeting at the office today with Mr Fatim not at some restaurant." I assert, receiving a shook expression from Elena.
"Lisa, I found her waiting by the gate yesterday and that's what she told me." I speak out, even wanting to boil off because thinking of it makes me angry. What does Lisa think I am? A toy from the store?
"Okay, calm down. Have something to eat, I'll deal with Lisa." I try to calm her down and eventually it works as she sighs.
Lisa. What was Lisa trying to do. I head downstairs to make a call.
"Come to my house, immediately." I command.
A few minutes later, Lisa steps in. In her smile that I'm starting to see as evil since she lied to Elena about the meeting. I don't bother even to offer her a seat as I walk close to her as she has just entered the house.
"What did you tell Miss Sam?" I head straight to the point.
"About?" She asks, receiving a serious face from me. "Oh, the meeting. I told her it will be held in your office first thing in the morning and she should not be late." She adds, and I scoff.
"That's a pity cause that's not what Miss Sam said. She stated that you said she should go to a restaurant where the meeting will be held. Are we building our company on manipulation now Lisa?" I inquire of fury.
"I'm sorry sir but I said no such thing, I swear on my father's grave." Lisa let's out. "Remember Miss Sam has been having sudden illnesses, they must be affecting her mind and concentration." She continues.
Could it be? Dr Anthony could have said so.
"I know but..." I pause to think.
"I'll be on my way now sir, I've got to fetch my daughter from creche." Lisa leaves.
I take a while remaining downstairs. What should I believe? Did Elena want time to spend with her friends and now she is just looking for an excuse? Why would Lisa try to sabotage me after so many years she has worked for HCP? What to think? Out of my mind, I find myself sitting in the living room. I go to bed around 11pm.
I find Elena sleeping again, and I exhale as I start to change while looking at her. What if Lisa has a problem with Elena? Who wouldn't want to be under my scent? But still, it's been over more than five years. If Lisa had something on me I would have noticed by now.
"Mom, mom." I am shaken by Elena sleep talking? Having caught even a glance of my sleep. My debate session is still on going. "Mom, please come back." This time she cries.
I shake her off.
